Growing up I thought I had life figured out. I mean this "grown up" stuff can't be that difficult. Get an education, acquire a job, marry your high school boyfriend, and purchase a dog. At an early age I understood what the world wanted from me and what I needed from it. However, life has a way of putting things in perspective.

What I thought, is now a big blank slate. Each day I awake with new intentions to redefine, reinvent, and classify what it all means. I started this blog two years ago because I was hurt to the core and I return to it today because reality checked me, yet again. Life has a way of showing you glimpses of the dream whIle still throwing daggers. Once in awhile when you think the pipe dream has arrived reality checks you.

So how does one live in such a world? A world filled with hate, heartache, death, sickness, discrimination, war, racism, and all the evils of the world. You have to become an alchemist of sorts... This old theory believes that you can transcend useless gray metals into precious gold.

We have the ability to create a new; despite how "gray" something appears. I found this to be the hardest thing to do. It is harder than grief and mourning, because this process make you look at things/people you lost and find value in their absence. Imagine finding peace in war, death is new life, heartache is love, hate is respect, and loss is eventually your gain. This process requires patience, strong standards, and determination. No one wants to experience feelings of being foolish or heartache. When the "grey metals" seem to overwhelm us we lose a sense of control. Apart of the theory is also believing in the process and that this too shall pass-- and it will.

The purpose of this piece is to understand that while in the midst of this process it is key to submerge yourself in things you are passionate about...things that make you happy. My revolving door in this process has taken it's toll on me. I find myself wanting to be that child again who knew it all, but life isn't that simple...or is it?

Hinduism... Karma ...Divinity

This isn't a typical fashion post. Moreso, a topic about shopping for inspiration.

Last Friday was professional development day, Like most PD agendas I wasn't impressed with the line up! Summarizing strategies (really?), 8th/7th grade modules (doesn't help my 12th graders), and a presentation on Hinduism. So I pick the latter, at least in the Hindu presentation there was a possibility I could learn something new... So I went.

I have never enjoyed World History, simply because the concepts and philosophies seem never ending. I have never invested in learning anything more than the basics. I was a typical student in this class... Learning things I have thought about and never been able to put into words... Like any faith base religion, there are teachings that can be applied to your own beliefs. I am a Christian, no doubt... But I love how the Hindu religion isn't a dogmatic system... And my take aways are the following:

1. Karma isn't always punitive, the goodness/negative energy you put out will be returned. A co-worker informed me how he is saving his "karma points" (not sure if that's possible). Karma isn't always immediate or may not even happen during your lifetime, but your lifeLINE will receive the gifts/consequence of your karma. The instructor from the Hindu American Foundation, used George Zimmerman as an example. He stated that everyone is hoping that Zimmerman reeks karma for his wrong doings, he said it may be in the form of living underneath a negative light for the rest of his life or it maybe that along his life line that he loses a son (great grandson) to violence. (Whoa) I often thought if I treat people right, forgive quickly, and love hard my karma would make my life better... I realize that my life is good now, and maybe just maybe if I begin to accept (truly accept) Gods plan for my life. My karma points will add up for me or my family :-) (maybe)!

2. In the Hindu religion they cremate the body... For the soul is eternal. Today I spoke with my friend Alysha who reminded me that our ancestors have always believed that we are being guided by our kin folk who have moved on. Hinduism follows the belief that the soul is eternal, that divinity can be found in all things living and in the soul that lives on for eternity. This gives a little bit of peace to know that our loved ones live on despite "being absent from the body"

3. "Seeing the divine in you"... We often look for the God in others, hoping to see reflections of God in those who are near and dear. It isn't an easy task, but it is one that we should work at daily!

All in all... I won't be converting anytime soon, but I respect and can relate to elements of this religion. There is a balance of peace and devotion, that has given me a new perspective on life. At this stage of life I will take inspiration from anything, even an elephant!

RETROGRADE 250

It's an organic experience to watch nature take shape... Shape as organic "as a web flowing from a spider." Could it be I'm caught in the silver lining? Dangerously caught up in the idea that life has a meaning and it encompasses a myriad truths and answers yet awaiting to be discovered. I've stopped to ponder, to gaze from the outside in, a stranger unbeknownst... I gazed... than I wonder... Who is this person that reflects my image. She is placed together with 250 experiences of triumph and tribulations. 250 million tears and laughs alike; all things working for the good (R. 8:29)...yet and still...

I am in a interesting place in life; at the core...the mecca... the center of earth. Much like earth I'm covered 70% with essentials of life and the 30% of my world I've been privy to create and recreate. I am taking time to create and focus on the little things that grab my attention. I am standing attention to the light and ignoring the dark. I'm in the mix of a retrograde. Retrograde motion is motion in the direction opposite to the movement of something else, and is the contrary of direct motion. I'm on a 250° axis. I'm looking at the pieces of my 250 piece puzzle and see the picture... Of how God's plan is working in direct conflict to negate the propagandists agenda, and in turn I am too... CHOOSING to focus on the joys of my path...

Conversations that aren't forced, natures joy of sight, anticipation is second nature to breathing.... "Suddenly I'm hit" 250. It's not a forced feeling...it's as organic as rain turning the ground into slips of mud.... Shifting the earth beneath our distressed foundation. It's retrograde on a 250° axis...

It's not for everyone and maybe, just maybe it's truly just meant for me...

So I haven't written in a long time. For a long time I haven't felt inspired. Life twists and turns have gotten the best of me.... But while I was looking thru some of my notes on my iPad I came across these words from a church sermon over a year ago...

Too often I get caught up in my own thoughts, trapped in my own prison cell. Suppressing hurt, withdrawing from friends and family, and neglecting things that deserve attention. So 6 months after my resolutions.... I'm revisiting them! Seeing what I can still accomplish ... Living! I've met new friends, had fried Oreos, and I let beach water come past my ankles...

That's not a bad start! Next up..... Getting off the couch at night :-)

Sometimes you have to lose...to win the game. Everyone knows I'm a winner...

What Are You Looking For? ~ Resolution for 2013

Recently I had several conversations with friends that are sticking with me to say the least. A conversation with my cousin Gary, he asked "When are you going to update your blog", I told him, "when I feel inspired". Another conversation with a friend last week, "I asked what are you looking for", he replied are women truly in a position to accept the answer when given; and lastly I told my friend that I needed to devise a plan, and she responded, "planning is always great". Coincidentally, all conversations have lead me to this post... What are you looking for? How will you be inspired next year? How will you make sure your dreams are aligned with your plan?

Last year I wouldn't have believed my dear friend Meta, planning is truly great?!? I have always properly planned everything, and on Dec. 31, 2011 I made a resolution to not plan. Instead take life by the horns and simply let things happen, with no plan.

Then as events spiraled and they SPIRALED.... I simply held on for dear life (literally). I had to change this philosophy fast, so I decided to merge my two resolutions. I've have no plan, and learned that somethings you simply can't plan for, but you must prepare and plan for everything! It is the most simplistic oxymoron, but true.

So this year I know what I'm looking for, and I'm making a "skeleton" plan for it.... Fun! I want to have fun this year. I want to travel the world, get a tan (yes, me a tan), eat dishes I never had before, I want to spend more time with special friends, new friends, and old, go to restaurants I never been to before, I want to change my lifestyle of fitness, and I want build upon my fashion dreams and create (whether it's with this blog or beyond).

I want to test the boundaries of what I can accomplish, and I plan to. Below are just some pictures of inspiration. I'm INSPIRED to be more than I am. To go to new places so I can create new memories. I collect postcards... Kinda cheesy, but I always said, when I have the money I would visit all the places my friends have gone.... and I will.

This week has been one of realization, triumph, and struggle. I found myself struggling with disappointment. Disappointed in my students, friends, and ultimately myself. I decided to sit down and let the race of my thoughts final consume me. I allowed these thoughts to no longer trouble me in the form of worry, hurt, and despair. Instead I choose to take the role student, no longer the teacher.

I sat down with my swedish fish and ice green tea, and I let the music take me to another place. I realize that music... lyrics, puts you in a mood. Whether it's Sade (slit a wrist), Jay Z (head banger tunes), or J Moss (praise the Lord) music.... you are taken away to a place that you desire. I have playlists on my IPod for everything: Work Flow, Time to Sweat (gym) Flow, Sleep Flow, and my Praise Flow.

Lyrics have a way of putting you in a mood and ultimately dictates your attire. This weekend... on repeat has been a song by Emeli Sande' (she is my new music obsession). The lyrics at first hear, I believed talked about a man's undying unconditional love. Then I begin to think does this type of man actually exist? This man who makes no mistakes, who is always and according to Emeli he is ALWAYS next to her; does "he" truly exist?

Then I realized....maybe....just maybe she speaks of God. A man who's love for you never waivers, a man who has unconditional love for you when friends vanish. Although my week was rough, God saw fit for me to live another day, to learn another lesson, and try again. He is always directing my path, even if it is one I'm reluctant to take. God is always next to me, he has not forsaken nor forgotten me. He gave me a song, he put the lyrics in my heart. Emeli Sande' put me in a mood with her lyrics... and these outfits are the outcome...

This isn't a deep post. Just something to get those music heads talking... and at the same time, get those fashion eyes moving.

Many don’t know how Shun Artistry came to be. Well, I’ve always wanted to be in the world of Fashion… I’ve tested the waters of modeling, makeup artistry, and even know how to sew. But my love for fashion isn’t where the creation of “Shun Artistry” the blogger came from. I’ve had so many random experiences this weekend, that made me truly think and inspire me to tell how this blog came to be… I experienced heartache. Not the typical heartache from a break up or a cheating boyfriend, heartache from loss. Many have loss people near and dear to them, however this is the first time I have ever endured physical and emotional pain because of death.

I lost my sunshine almost 6 months ago, he loved me in spite of myself. He never wavered in his love and despite our many problems, we somehow remained. I remained a priority for him and our relationship was unique and timeless. I’m going to share some words that I shared with my mother, the day after my sunshine passed. These words… are the inspiration for this blog. Damon wrote me an email and even at this very moment, I can hear him speak it…

…it's about 12:10a.m, I just put my clothes in the house from the laundry-mat. I go stand on the porch and bathed in the midnight sky. I hear some birds in an adjacent tree whistle a beautiful conversation. It was almost as beautiful as "Almost as beautiful as you were the very 1st day I met you". I mean, I was like "Damn, this shit is almost as beautiful as you and me making love in the greatest place on earth". No really, I was like "Damn, that whistle talk sound beautiful...almost as beautiful as hearing you say "Hiiii". Yo, on some ol' be'n one wit da night shit, I really was like "Damn"...this right here...I, a mere ease-dropper to a very private conversation amongst birds, saw the depths of beauty that lie in that moment...And even in the beauty of that moment it was still "Almost as beautiful as You...

You see he looked at the world through a very special lens. He could find sheer moments of happiness standing on a porch. Damon was man who LIVED. He wasn’t perfect, but he was perfectly flawed. He admitted his issues, and worked to make them better. He never took a day and did nothing. He wasn’t the type to sleep all day…He wanted to LIVE. I have an opportunity to LIVE… and yet, I find myself surrounded by sadness. I am lonely, fearful, doubtful, and yet, I still remain...a bit lost. I have allowed things to overshadow the blessings afforded to me everyday. It is truly a journey to take, to be at that point again, where you can smile without feeling guilty. To allow someone to have your heart, and know it is well protected from outside elements, not allowing fear to take over. I want to listen to the birds… hear the intricate conversations and witness LIFE.

I can honestly say, I envy those who on the outside at least… appear to take life by balls (excuse my language Ma)… and run. I ravel in those who hop on first class flights and grace the skies to the third destination of the week, or even those who know happy hour spots and bartenders by name. I am no socialite, hell most days I’m no good at being social… but I do enjoy watching and observing that life. These pictures below are just some pictures that were taken in phase two of my Shades of DC post. I’m not going to highlight their attire… more so… their presence and evidence of people …..LIVING.

I don't know if it is the clouds, the blue sky, the fall tree, or the small gust of smoke that makes this picture of Harley... amazing. Can you see him living?

Sometimes it's the people, the company in which we keep that makes this life, worth living... They are more than just friends... Mikey, Harley, and John are family... Can you see them living?

God gifts us many things... material and intangible gifts.... that makes this life shine. Fashion and style are apart of living, it brings your impression to the world. Can you see them living?

Loosen up your tie folks... Don't allow the shadow to engulf you.... Let the sunshine embrace you instead. Dedicated to my sunshine... I have not forgotten. I heard you.... and I'm listening.

Shades of DC ~ Distinguished Gentlemen

Distinguished Gentlemen

I moved to the Washington, D.C. area twelve years ago and immediately I was engulfed with the lifestyle. A rich history of change and leadership. At the seat of government; this city posses more than lobbyist and congressmen but diversity among its constituents. A city where people could intermingle and network throughout the day and party like rock stars at night. Sipping on cocktails with olives and blue cheese or simplistic tart Merlot...the night takes you by the hand and dances with you along the skylines of the capitol.

Watching the fashions of D.C. transcend from day to night is an event within itself. The visions of it all can be described in a phrase that many women can relate to, as of recent, to the "shades". DC has a myriad of hues and I choose to celebrate the men and their contribution to the world I love so much. I applaud enthusiastically, the men in D.C. who make it look effortless. These men are educators, business men, students, entrepreneurs, artists, and innovators in their own right. For the first post of my trilogy I decided to work with geniuses in the universe of fashion:

Jonathan Osborne III and Harley White.

I grabbed a Tall Vanilla Chai and patiently awaited my models...with anticipation, I knew that this shoot, this post, would be unlike any other. I requested the assistance of these two gentlemen, not just any men, men with a distinct attitude of individualism. These men intrigue the eye and have you creating stories about their occupation, love life, and comings and goings. They capture you. They have an aura that is identified in the most simplistic to the grandest of ensembles. They are the Christian Grey's of D.C...not because of their dark hidden passions (I don't think, smile)... Comparably, like Mr. C. Grey, they have the power to entice you without words or actions. Their attire guarantees acknowledgement at first glance and again at the second. Their power to entice and seduce your fashion buds is done through their own interpretation of style. I simply asked them to come in whatever captures what they believed to be the "Essence of D.C." Both Harley and Jonathan proved to be true distinguished gentlemen and it oozed throughout the shoot. The Latin term "gentlemen" is defined as the way a man behaves and thinks. These men embody the word not only in fashion, but in simple mannerisms. Washington, D.C. became the backdrop to these gentlemen and the inspiration for this post. Don't take my word for it... Let the pictures explain it all.

Again, I turned to MOK Photography where Michael O. Kirby, used his talents to transfer the settings of D.C. into the framework for the vision I had for this post. We started off on U Street. U Street has been declared a historic district. The corridor in the early 20th century was the foundation for the African American community and culture, before the breaking dawn of Harlem. Ben's Chili Bowl serve as the first back drop then we moved to a secret landmark building in D.C. and allowed these men to shine... next to sunshine.

What they wore...

Jonathan wore a Hugo Boss tuxedo with the classic satin stripe down the leg. His onyx bow tie and pearly pocket square are from Thomas Pink. His sleek Salvatora Ferragamo patent leather "Party in a Shoe", with a silk grosgrain stripe can be found at Neiman Marcus. His Playboy cuff links and glasses are classic vintage. The beadwork on his wrist are compliments of an exclusive vendor.

Harley wore ashen flannel pants by Incotex... Blackberry Etro velvet blazer, with a white button up by Stefano Ricci which can be purchased at Bergdorf Goodman's. His paisley ascot which he purchased in a trip to Rome is the statement piece; it lights up the suit with a hint of color. His Gucci black leather shoes with gold accents ties his ensemble together. Harley also has a beaded bracelet on both the wrist and ankle and 18K gold cuff links. Harley sports Tom Ford glasses.

Getting ready for a simple game of craps in the alley way... a typical activity in formal wear :-)

Ever since I was a little girl I fell in LOVE with the idea of love… I soon learned the ultimate dream is to then marry the man you love. I had my favorite Barbie marry Ken over and over again… maybe twice a week. She would get dressed up in her fancy Barbie Wedding Dress and walk, rather strut, down the aisle to my favorite Stevie Wonder song… Ribbon in the Sky and they would plastic kiss and the world would be at peace. If only the real world were so simple…

My image of love hasn’t changed. I'm still a hopeless romantic, who loves the idea of love. I desire that one gentlemen who can be the “sunshine” of my world. The one who gives you butterflies and makes you feel like that high school girl with a secret crush, a man who is strong enough to proclaim love for just one woman. I love the dream of finding a man who is man enough to leave love notes around the house, send those just because flowers two days in a row just to reaffirm his undying feelings, and is never embarrassed to kiss you in public, for he would scream from the mountain tops, if possible, to declare his love for you. Love is truly a gift from God, he gives you that feeling and awareness of having that special someone who knows your flaws and accepts them, yet has an endearing eye in spite of your imperfections. Although the concept of marriage has evolved over the years there are some couples who still embody the simplicity of marriage and have relationships that reflects the love of God.

My dear, Mary Harris Jones, has a relationship that is envy worthy (smile). Their relationship, with a strong foundation in God, flourished. Mary and Tony have a deep-set faith. “Faith is walking face-first and full-speed into the dark. If we truly knew all the answers in advance as to the meaning of life and the nature of God and the destiny of our souls, our belief would not be a leap of faith and it would not be a courageous act of humanity; it would just be... a prudent insurance policy.” And on that leap of faith and declaration of love Tony proposed to Mary Harris and put my Ken’s proposals to shame. These two married the dream on September 8, 2012, making their dreams a reality for all others to witness. This was not a coincidence…and far more than a lucky chance…but what it is, that was always meant.. is their ribbon in the sky for their love

Mary knew she was deserving of something beautiful, something elegant, classy and chic for her character is a symbol of nothing less. She focused her theme around the colors of that of ribbons from the sky and her venue resembles the castle where the King married his Queen. She walked down the aisle holding her graceful bouquet of flowers and said “I do” and kissed her husband, Tony.

The details of their union are illustrated below… a day that will be remember for years to come, as these two continue to be a model for a romance that continues to bloom daily.

We must start first with the moment where Mary, "said yes to the dress". The dress is by Maggie Sottero. Mary Harris Jones said yes at the Bridal Boutique in Columbia, MD. This Maggie Sottero dress is called Dawn. It is a full ball gown with dipped neckline and zipper over inner corset with covered button closure. The soft satin in the color alabaster, glows on Mary's skin. The shimmer fabric helps creates this grand ball gown. The structured bodice with subtle top-stitched lines features a high-waisted band with circular beaded motif adds that extra spice to this design. Hidden pockets are cleverly placed at the side seams of the richly gathered skirt, giving Mary a little extra hiding space for her tissues.

A woman and her shoes are not to be messed with... Mary choose to shine on her special day in these Enzo Angiolini "Show You" heels. Enzo Angiolini is known around the world for their comfortable fit and unique pieces. These "Show You" heels are encrusted with dazzling rhinestones and has a peep toe to add for comfort and a small look into that perfect pedicure :-)

The Groom looked pretty dapper too... He choose a black tuxedo with a off white tuxedo shirt and a satin tie to match.

No wedding is complete without special friends and family to stand beside you in your happiest moments. The ladies are wearing dresses by Bari Jay, in various styles and hues. Their dresses were purchased at Cameo Bridal Salon.

Ready For Fall Part I

Fall is by far my favorite season... the leaves changing colors, the layering of clothes, the gloves, scarves,boots, thick socks, and my all time favorite leather coats... it is time. Today marks the beginning of fall and I have chosen today with a little inspiration from my dear friend Len, to focus on some fall color clothes that have my heart. Green and Orange... focusing on all shades of the hue from Forest Green to Rust Orange, these colors have rocked the runways of fashion week and will soon be found in closets around the world. These are my new inspirations!!!

EACH PIC HAS A NAME... A NAME OF A WOMAN AND A SPIRIT I ATTEMPT TO EMBODY...AS I LIVE.

This pic is called "Leta" she has so much energy, a smile to die for, and a super power of strength only those close to her can see.

My mother’s said I should write a book detailing all the things I’ve been through; I don’t think anyone would believe such a tale. To say I have suffered insurmountable amounts of pain, endured life changing events, death of my love, and been succumbed with fear (similar to that of nightmares) 24 hours out of the day in the past two years… is pretty unfathomable.

Yet, somehow God saw fit for me to live another day of this life. The chapters of my story are hard to explain. I sometimes feel that only I, will ever truly understand each word, phrase, and page written. I have learned, these past few months, that others have dealt with similar pain and even more telling stories. They say that time heals all wounds, but my scars are forever in my heart and embedded in my mind. I understand that everyone has their own trials and tribulations, which is why my words, my paragraphs, my book…will only truly be understood by me, the author.

I decided in the midst of healing to do something that I enjoyed (not writing a book). Taking directives, I delved into my passion (fashion and pictures). These pictures tell a story. The sun was so bright this afternoon and looking back I found a sheer moment of being in a state of stability and bliss…I was living. I walked barefoot on rocks and grass. I let nature have it’s way with my makeup melting and insects crawling. :-) I went to a place where I was able to close my eyes and embrace the sunlight on my face. I was in a barn and welcomed nature’s raw and simplistic elements. There were no props, no special lighting, just sunshine and me. Mom, these pictures speak volumes to thoughts, feelings, and concerns I can’t yet, put to paper, however, my expressions, my style, my body language shares a glimpse into my world.

MOK Photography took more than pictures, he captured words unspoken. The rare talent to simply look at a site and envision a photograph before it is taken is ingenious. I highly recommend Mr. Michael Kirby for your next photo shoot. His cavalier style and work speaks volumes...it told my story.

This post is simply a sneak peek into my next posts from a recent photo shoot. (Will post more on Monday). My definition of fashion is complex. To me fashion is more than clothes, shoes, and accessories. Fashion can tell a story. Every waking morning your attire tells the world how you feel, what you stand for, the more electrifying to the most simplistic looks details the man/woman you want to portray to society. Those who say they don't care about fashion or the ins and outs of making a statement, contrarily make a statement.

We all have a wardrobe that hides and exemplifies our feelings... from painted sweatpants, designer shoes, tailored suits, whimsical dresses, freakum dresses, to distressed jeans and that favorite white beater. I had an opportunity recently to capture some very deep feelings on camera. Feelings of an empty vessel finally feeling supplied with the essence of God. Fashion is more than "prevailing custom or style of dress, etiquette, socializing,etc." It is an ever changing attitude that we first embody, then portray in our image. Stay tuned for my photo shoot pics.... They tell a story of "NO WEAPON" formed against me prospering...

Oh I wish for all of these things in this post. I am infatuated and one day... maybe my father (one of my followers) or a prince charming will find it fit to give me one or all things below... (wishful thinking is okay). This season I want to test the bounds of color and patchwork.

No fall wardrobe is complete without the love of leather and because of the short hair that I rock, I adore scarfs and snoods of all kinds. I love every item below, but it isn't in my budget. These special goodies are apart of my Fall 2012 Wish List... Somethings will be attained, somethings will remain on the list.

This Runway Misa Leather Moto Coat from BCBG Runway Collection rings in at $1,398.00. This coat has detailed patchwork and includes all of the following fabrics: Twill, Cotton, Spandex, Cow Leather, Lamb Leather and Nylon. I have a serious crush on this jacket.

These patchwork leather cap toe t-strap have all my wants in one. These can be found on JCrew for $325.00. Daddy I wear a size 6 1/2 (wink).

I brought this same blazer in red and now I need the staple black blazer in my closet. This is a great price for a sleek look found at Zara for $99.00.

And no fall wardrobe is complete without it's accessories. These leather gloves ($35.00) and Fluro green and black snood ($32.00) are not bad on the wallet and can be found at Top Shop.

Lastly, this Issa London Maxi Dress is exquisite within her own right. I love any dress or skirt that hits the floor and brings there on sense of drama to any outfit. This piece features a deep V-neck and dramatic blouson sleeves, this gorgeously printed Issa London maxi dress guarantees a statement-making entrance. She costs $815.00 (again not in the budget), but a girl can wish upon a star. This dress can be found in Bloomingdales

This Is For My Gents...

I looked through Dolce and Gabbanna's, Louis Vuitton's, and Giorgio Armani’s collection, but my favorite is the Emporio Armani Men Fall/ Winter Collection2012-2013.

“A collection that could be defined as being all about the interior world of the wearer. The austere expression of deep, conceptual sentiments, revealing the essence of a style that is pure to its very roots.”

Armani started the runway show with a look that was a clever mix of a black panther in France. A sleek black leather trench with a black turtleneck, structured heather gray pants to the hem, with a silver buckle, and black slip on, the over sized beret tops off the look. The palette for this collection includes cool dark colors including black, taupe, various shades of grey from heather to charcoal, chocolate brown, deep berries, and pops of white. He included in his collection an array of hooded scarves that I think can be rocked with some jeans and be amazing. The Emporio Collection also included double vests, polished framed coats from wool to leather, and suits that have unerring designs that include skinny ties. Emporio Armani’s twist on the use of velvet for men is also a far cry from typical.

There are truly pieces in his collection that deserve emulation this season. Gentlemen if you want to see some exquisite trends that can be rocked in your own image, be sure to check out the video above, it is 12 minutes and 36 seconds of true fashion forward mixes. Ladies there are splashes of his collection for women, but the focus is undoubtedly on the gentlemen.

Sarah Jessica Parker is one of my favorite fashion icons. Her starring role as Carrie Bradshaw had all the ladies (well at least me) waiting on Sunday nights for 94 episodes to see how she would rock a simple piece of apparel and make it grand. Sarah Jessica Parker's style has always been at the forefront of her career. She takes an interesting twist on a rough with a sweet dainty piece and makes it look effortless. Her evolving style can be seen in the photos above where she takes a statement piece and wears it in three very distinct ways. These shoes are divine... Classic and chic that can be worn to the business meeting or dress down with distressed jeans. I found these Lola Cruz pumps at Yoox for $130.00

I have a crazy infatuation for long skirts... this one is a bit pricey, but the mini pleats are to die for... literally looking at the price (smile) This beauty can be purchased at Far Fetch for $278.00.

I've added this as a different option, particularly because I brought this dress in a cream color, when IT WASN'T ON SALE. It hugs to the curves in all the right ways, with a hint of sexy in the split. This is ON SALE NOW for $39.77 at ASOS.

TAX HOLIDAY... SHOPPERS!

August is the time to shop.... especially because of all of the tax breaks found in the DMV area. Today is the last day for Virginia Shoppers... (sorry) take advantage of purchasing school supplies and clothing including footwear starting Friday Aug 3, until Sunday Aug 5, 2012. These items will be exempt from Virginia’s 5% sales tax, as well as any local sales tax. To be eligible, school supply items must be priced at $20 or less, and each eligible article of clothing and footwear must be priced at $100 or less.

The second Sunday of August to the following Saturday (August 12-18) is designated as Shop Maryland Week. That means qualifying apparel and footwear $100 or less are exempt from the Maryland 6% sales tax.

Unfortunately, Washington, D.C. repealed their sales tax holiday in 2009 and did not renew for 2010, 2011, or 2012.

The next item is possibly my favorite find, it is a homemade necklace made of zippers. It comes from Sweet Plum Gallery. You can shop her sweet and delicious handmade jewerlry and accessories at www.etsy.com/shop/sugarplumgallery. The owner also stated she could make any necklace in any style and color of zippers. I also loved her packaging... it was a elegant touch. This necklace was $42.00. My most expensive buy.

Special shout out to my dear friend JaQuaya who came all the way from Delaware to spend the day with me shopping... and Mase who also found some cute items, that didn't break her budget :-)

Fashionista Flea Market Finds!!!! :-) Part I

Saturday morning with my tall Starbucks Vanilla Chai in hand (thanks to my dear friend Mase) I began my search for finds at the Fashionista Flea Market. It was my objective to find homemaede, vintage, and unique pieces. The FFM delivered on it's promises of diversity, however the vast number of jewelry vendors was a pleasant surprise. The vendors presented an edge and creativity in their merchandise, and were truly eager and displayed true professionalism when dealing with potential clients... a refreshing take to customer service often lacking in department stores. I had a chance to look at vendors with merchandise ranging from sunglasses, custom toe rings, vintage clothing to good old ole "arm candy" bracelets. I came prepared to spend a whopping $100.00, however my finds total $62.00. Check out my special purchases. I am saving pictures of my $5.00 dress for my upcoming photo shoot... but I will share the fabric color today.

The first finds comes from Glamour Holics, where Myss R. Stephens is the CEO/Owner. I found this cute sequin clutch for $10.00. Now please note, I believe this is a flea market price.

Victoria Beckham's Look: Sleek and Impeccable....

Victoria Beckham's style is truly impeccable. She is known for her sleek and structured looks that accentuates a woman's body. She has truly made waves since her "eclectic" style during the 90's as a member of the Spice Girls. She is now known for a more subtle sexy. This particular look by Victoria Beckham exudes sexy. I am in love with fall/winter clothes... and I have chosen, to recreate a look that you will rock in the colder months.

This look includes YSL leather tights that cost~ $959.00 and Giuseppe Zanotti suede booties that can be found at Bergdorf Goodman for $795.00. My recreation is similar to what Ms. Beckham is wearing with a Shun.Artistry twist of course... :-)

My look is under $500.00, definitely cheaper than the dollars spent by Victoria :-)

The BCBG Landyn Pleather tights costs $138.00 and the Metal Bar Insert clutch purse with metal chain can be purchased at Top Shop for $70.00. The bank breaker is the Harlston Heritage Cape Coat trimmed in leather which can be found on ASOS website, on sale for $254.35 (yes, this is the sale price...originally $845.07). I love this look. So I came across this stunning look by Solange Knowles and I wanted to recreate this look using her Salvatore Ferragamo shoes as my budget. Ms. Knowles shoes alone cost $595.00 found at Neiman Marcus. I'm happy to say I found a very similar look from head to toe for under 250.00.
