I’ve completed my sixth All New Custom Path book (did I mention I’m addicted?), and with this latest one I’ve discovered an incredibly useful tool. Idea pages.

What? You haven’t tried idea pages? Stop right there! Don’t edit another page in your photo book until I introduce you to this brilliant resource.

Idea pages are fully designed with beautiful embellishments, perfectly placed text samples, and playful layouts. They give you a unique creative look without all the fuss. You can use them as-is or add tweaks of your own. And here’s why you’ll love with them. They will make you look like a design genius with one click.

Here’s how.

1. Start – begin making your All New Custom Path photo book

2. Select your idea page – after your photos are in place, go to the “Idea Pages” tab on the left side of your screen and click the idea page of your choice

3. Transform your page – your photo book page will immediately transform into that design. Instant genius!

Added bonus tips.

Tip 1 – if you want a wider selection of idea pages, click on the “Get More Idea Pages” link and add as many as you want to your list

Tip 2 - to save time, make sure you choose an idea page with the same amount of photos that are in your photo book page

"Along with the other Scrap Girl designers, I regularly write tutorials that are included in the daily newsletter. All of these tutorials are compiled quarterly and featured in an e-book, Scrap Girls Tutorials and Way Cool Stuff, that is available for purchase in the Scrap Girl Boutique.

I don’t hybrid scrapbook layouts. I do, however, use my digital scrapbooking supplies to create crafts. Some of the projects I have completed are mini books, coffee mug inserts, greeting cards, decorative magnets, and graphic baby onesies for baby shower gifts."

All you need to do is add your own photos and journaling in a software program like Adobe Elements and you are done. You can upload the page to Shutterfly and they can print a beautiful 8 x 8 or 12 x 12 print for you.

Techno Talk: With Kim Meeder

Kim Meeder , designer for Scrap Girls shares some of her technology insights with us. Enjoy!

"My favorite piece of technology is my MacBook Pro! Love, love, love my computer because I love, love, love designing. My iPhone and Nikon 70 camera are a close tie for second place.

I have no real photography background. Digital scrapbooking has changed all that. Now, it’s hard to find me without a camera in my hand or, at least, close by me. I read photography books and have taken some classes. I love photographing people and that is what you will see in most of my layouts. I’m fascinated with the expressions, movements and faces of people. I rarely use a photo without first tweaking it a bit. How can I resist playing with all the cool things that can be done in Photoshop?!

The digital software I use is Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Illustrator. I love everything about the software and get excited that I have only scratched the surface. My favorite tool or technique would have to be blending modes and layer masks. I use layer after layer of blending modes while designing digital papers and embellishments. Layer masks allow me to create realistic layouts with depth and dimension."

Kim Meeder , designer for Scrap Girls shares some good old fashioned "Everyday Inspiration" with us!

Everyday life:

Each time our family gets together, it is a celebration for me. One of the highlights is seeing my grandchildren interact with one another. It may be crazy and chaotic with little munchkins running everywhere, but I love every minute of it. This photo shows our oldest grandson, Dylan, playing with our granddaughter, Adrianna. Dylan is totally in love with his cousin and wants a baby sister of his own. At the time this photo was taken, his mommy (my oldest daughter) was pregnant and we didn’t know whether Dylan would be gaining another brother or a little sister. We now know that his newest sibling, due to arrive on April 19, will be a little brother! So, I’m sure this adoration society they have formed will continue for quite a while.
