For a lot of young families, buying a home can feel like something that is increasingly difficult, if not impossible. As I am currently looking at moving, in what is a very volatile housing market and cost of living, as someone on a small budget, here are a few things I've learnt and may help you too.

During our family Interrailing trip across Europe, we visited the Vatican City and while we are not religious at all, we still found the whole experience an interesting and culturally significant one. We also managed to do it in a fairly low-stress way, and I think they came down to research as it's not really one of those places you can easily visit on a whim due to crowds, so this really helped prepare us. For many people, esepically those with children, a visit to St Peter's Basilica will be more than enough, esepically as you can also access the Vatican Grottoes and Tombs for free from inside St Peter's, along with being able to see masterpieces like Michelangelo’s Pietà and Bernini's Baldacchino. You want to allow for around 1-2hrs to visit the Basilica and Grottoes.

It is also free to attend the Papal Audience on Wednesday, although this does require reserving a free ticket through the Vatican. The Pope also appears at the apartment window on Sundays at noon to bless the crowds at St. Peter's Square, this is again free, but do expect large crowds.

The Deutsches Technikmuseum, with its vintage planes and trains, allows kids to climb inside and pull levers, while the Natural History Museum (home to Tristan the T. rex) brings the prehistoric world to life.
