Calling All ΣΦΕ Alumni - We Need Bloggers

Hello there,

If this is your first visit to the SigEp Feds, welcome. If you already know about the SigEp Feds and are returning for a quick update, welcome back. The reason why I am writing to you today is to ask your assistance. As you may or may not know, participation has been down at our events lately. This is no fault of your own or those who run the group. In fact, we enjoy the company of anyone who shows up to our events, whether it be two brothers or twenty. Wings Nite has been successful with many showing up each month. Both those who have never attended and those who regularly attend.

Monthly meetings/dinners, however, are falling short of expectations and we would like to re-invite you to attend tomorrow, March 3^rd or in April. We would like your input for future events and activities with this group. Is participating in a kickball league in our future? Do you want to start meeting every other month, instead of every month? Would you like to incorporate more philanthropy activities than our "Cat in the Hat" Month/Seuss on the Loose event every March? How can we reinvigorate the group? We need your help.

As a part of this request we would like to invite new blog authors to the SigEp Feds. We want this to be more than just a bulletin board of event updates. We want to start a conversation related to SigEp alumni. In no way are we trying to compete with our brother blog, the S&P but we are looking to engage all alumni, not just those in the Washington, DC area, but around the country regarding topics of interest to the Sigma Phi Epsilon (ΣΦΕ, SigEp) alumni audience. What are your thoughts on alumni groups? What are your thoughts on attending Carlson or Conclave at least once in your lifetime? Should it be like Mecca and you have to go at least once or does it pump you up so much (for those who have been to one), that you recommend it for any and all alumni to attend every time? What about voting rights at Conclave? Should alumni have them?

You see, we are looking for contributors who are interested in creating something different than the S&P but also something that is on topic for alumni and not necessarily the undergrad members of SigEp. We are not saying that undergraduate members cannot view or post their comments here, but we are saying that the conversations will surround alumni and topics of interest to alumni.

We are only looking for a commitment of at least one post per month. If you would like to post every day, week, or more than once per day, please, by all means, be our guest. This doesn't mean that those who are already listed as contributors will hand over the reigns. It just means we are looking to add to the rolls of those who are authorized to post here.

If you would like to become a regular contributor to this blog, please e-mail Will Hull and if you have them, please link to some other things you may have written pertaining to the fraternity or attach them to the e-mail along with your name and your undergraduate chapter (so we can verify you are, indeed a SigEp). We look forward to your response.

SigEp DC Alpha Centennial Celebration

DC Alpha (George Washington University) will celebrate their centennial on Friday evening October 9^th at a banquet at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, DC. The keynote speaker will be Grand President Garry Kief. We are expecting between 300-350 guests at the black tie optional event.

Cost for the dinner is $125 per person. All the registration and information can be found at www.dcalpha.com.

Ed and the troops need some supplies to keep them comfortable in Afghanistan. We will use this dinner as a drop off point so the Feds can send a care package to thank them for their service.

Here is some ideas:

Foods that you can add water and eat (instant soup, instant anything)

Healthy snacks (it is a lot easier to skip or miss a meal if you have something to chew on)
Individual packets for Gatorade and other drinks (it helps in the heat)
M&Ms (everyone needs al little chocolate now and then)
Nuts (all nuts are an easy to carry/store source of protein)
Soap and other items
Socks and other clothes of necessity (Remember, knee high socks to help us combat the disease-carrying sand flies)

Lets come through for Ed and rest of the troops.

Ice Capades: SigEp Feds/ΚΔ Mixer Recap

Last night, we had a wonderful mixer with the alumni ladies of ΚΔ. In fact, we have a couple pictures documenting the evidence. Armie, who is pictured a couple times, was on ice skates for the first time. I was there with my daughter for about an hour and caught a couple pictures and chatted a bit with everyone.

In all, there were five representatives from each organization making for a quaint but fun turnout.

We’ve Moved: To the Same Location

By now, you must be asking yourself, what the heck the title of this post is all about. I would like to be the first to welcome you back to SigEpFeds.org or officially welcome you, if this is your first visit.

After thinking about it and mentioning it at the last couple of meetings, we have recently migrated the same old domain name of SigEpFeds.org to a new location. That's right, the SigEp Feds Web site is now a Blog/Web site or some amalgamation thereof. The blog has the same functionality as the Web site but expands upon it in ways that the Web site could only struggle to keep up with.

Here are some of the ways in which hosting the SigEp Feds domain name on a blog benefits the group:

» We still have access to all of the same great information through links on the sidebar to the right →
» Once a new event is created/chosen to be hosted, we can update the blog and right there at the top you will know exactly what is going on, or you can select the Events link on the sidebar and find out what is going on right away.
» Hosting the feed via RSS allows you to never have to visit the SigEp Feds address again and yet still remain updated on what is happening and what items are up for discussion at any time using a feed reader or RSS service such as BlogRovr if you are familiar with that sort of thing; if you're not, learn more about what RSS can do for you.
» Anyone who is authorized can post without relying on one person to make sure that it is done
» Anyone can submit an item for discussion (this would depend on our members supplying comments about the post so that a two-way dialog can take place, and I have full faith that it will one day become a reality).
» We now have, all on one page, a calendar, links to our social network pages, a link to subscribe via RSS or via e-mail alert, photos, chapter and other related links, and if you click on the link of the visitor count, you too can view our visitor statistics at any time.

So, we hope you can see why we have chosen to transition the SigEp Feds Web site into a blog and why it is the preferred platform to host our happenings.

Mixer: SigEp Feds Ice Skating with the Alumni Ladies of ΚΔ

The SigEp Feds have teamed up with the alumni ladies of ΚΔ to host an ice skating mixer. Details can be found below. This was a very successful event last year and we are continuing the tradition again this year. We will be meeting on February 7^th at 6:30PM in the Pentagon Row courtyard. Once we do a couple of laps we will head into Sineʼ Irish Pub (pronounced "Shin-A") which is a brisk 20 yard walk from the rink to warm up with some drinks and mingling. We hope you can make it.
