The criminal law procedure is at times bewildering, complicated to understand, and often can be confusing to people not familiar with the aspects of criminal law. People accused of contravening a crime have certain essential rights, some of which are guaranteed by the U.S Government.

If you are put under custody for being involved in a crime, how can you know if your rights have not been violated? It is then the experienced criminal law attorney can help you out. But calling an attorney to speak in your favor comes much later! What if any misfortune happens before that? Getting bail for a criminal case involves step by step approach that you may not know. Going to jail is obviously an unpleasant experience. However, by adding ghosts and goons, an unpleasant situation can turn into a complete nightmare. With that being said, here is a look at the 9 most haunted prisons in the U.S.

Alcatraz Prison

Tourists have often reported hearing footsteps and screams coming from various parts of the prison. A psychic once visited the prison and allegedly made contact with a murdered inmate.

Saint Augustine Jail

Local historians say a number of people who worked on the lighthouse died while working. There have also been reports of people witnessing ghosts roaming the property.

Fort Pulaski

This fort was used to hold Civil War prisoners. Many of the prisoners died from a lack of adequate water and food. There are strong rumors that these prisoners' spirits still roam the grounds.

While this jail closed in 1970, sources maintain that some supernatural prisoners still roam the grounds. Visitors report hearing footsteps and voices.

In the late 1800’s, an inmate was sentenced to execution by hanging, but the hanging did not go as planned. Some observers say that his death was slow and painful. It is believed that the inmate lives on inside the jail.
Red Ribbon is an annual observation in October in the United States for alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention and awareness. It got started after DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena was kidnapped, tortured, and murdered in 1985. His four years of undercover work in Guadalajara, Mexico led him to a tip that resulted in the discovery of a Chihuahua narcotics manufacturing operation worth millions of dollars.

After Camarena and his pilot Captain Alfredo Zavala-Avelar were found murdered, residents of Calexico, Camarena's hometown, wore red ribbons in his honor. The red ribbon became a prevention symbol for decreasing illegal drug demand. The National Family Partnership (NFP), in conjunction with first lady Nancy Reagan and the U.S. Congress, organized the first National Red Ribbon Week in 1988.

Currently Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the United States. It provides a channel for individuals and communities alike to participate in drug education, prevention and to establish a personal goal to live a healthy, drug-free life. The campaign is particularly beneficial for students. Schools all over the country offer resources, challenges, and rallies during Red Ribbon Week. Many businesses also provide incentives, such as free gifts and discounts, for students who commit to a drug-free life and wear red ribbons in public.

Typically Red Ribbon Week takes place the last full week of October with celebrations on the weekends before and after it. The exact start and end dates vary slightly, depending on the specific organization and location. The 2014 Red Ribbon theme is “Love Yourself. Be Drug Free,” from seventh grader Alexa Dougherty who believes that if you're choosing not to take drugs, you love yourself because you're not hurting yourself. September is National Preparedness month, and if you’re like most people, keeping your house and your family secure is a top priority. However, knowing exactly how to keep your family and home safe isn’t exactly easy, and you do need to do some legwork to figure it out.

While what you need to safeguard your home greatly depends on the area you live in and what natural disasters occur in your area, there are some general guidelines that can help everyone prepare for a natural disaster.

Use this guide to help you make sure your family is prepared, no matter where you are or what happens. Otherwise, you could be in store for some serious consequences.

Know Your Area
Before you can begin to prepare your home and family for a real emergency, you need to understand what disasters could occur in your area. For example, areas where hurricanes are common may require supplies to help you board up windows. An area where a flood is common will require you to keep sandbags on hand.

However, those supplies may not do much for an area where natural disasters like earthquakes – which can’t really be predicted – are the most common. In those areas, kits that help you simply stay healthy after a disaster are essential.

Make a Plan
The next step in preparing your home and family for disasters is relatively simple. You need to devise a thorough plan of escape in the case of a disaster – if leaving the home or going to a safer area of the home is helpful.

For example, in a tornado, you’ll want to head to your basement where, ideally, your entire tornado supplies are waiting for you. It’s also where you’ll be the safest and away from potential shattering glass.

In the case of an earthquake, you may not want to be at the lowest part of your house because of structural damage and the potential for your home to literally cave in on top of you. In that case, you’ll want to be on the ground floor and protected from breaking glass or falling items.

Whatever type of disaster you are preparing for, make sure you have a plan of where your family will go and meet when a disaster strikes. You don’t want family members separated during a disaster under any circumstances

Prepare Your Emergency Kit
An emergency kit can make the difference between living through a natural disaster or the grim alternative. In the case of a very severe disaster, you might even have to rely on your emergency kit to stay alive for an extended period of time.

Use the list below to help you make sure you have everything you need in your emergency kit. If you’re unsure of how much to have of a particular item, remember that it’s always better to have too much than too little when it comes to emergency preparedness. You don’t know how long you’ll have to rely on your emergency supplies.

Water. Water is essential, and dehydration can quickly prove to be deadly; you want to have about a gallon of water per person per day in your emergency reserves. That means that each person should have at least seven gallons of water in reserve in case of a natural disaster. It might sound like a lot, but not having it is much worse.

Non-perishable food. Think of items like canned beans, fruit, vegetables and dried meats.

Flashlight. One flashlight per person, with extra batteries for each.

A radio with extra batteries. Any urgent information could be conveyed.

Medicines in surplus. Any prescription medication that a member of your family needs should have a one-week supply in reserve.

Cash on hand. Remember, some emergencies are simple things like a family member ending up in jail. Without cash on hand, you won’t be able to get them a bail bond and they will have to stay until their hearing.

Disasters are rarely predictable, and few businesses are truly ready for the full extent and nature of a disaster when it hits. California is a state mixed with economic recovery for some and continued financial struggle for others, particularly senior citizens. One of the state's helpful solutions that kept seniors in their homes was the Senior Citizens' and Disabled Citizens' Property Tax Postponement program (PTP).

This program, which was indefinitely suspended in 2009 due to budget cuts, aimed to help seniors on low or fixed income, as well as blind and disabled residents. Since 2009 thousands of needy Californians have applied for the PTP program while it remains in limbo, as they must deal with rising cost of living issues. The following details are a reminder of the program's success:

PTP Background

Throughout the 1970s California experienced a booming real estate market. But with rising home values came rising property taxes, leading to the voters passing Proposition 13 in 1976, which postponed property taxes for lower and middle class homeowners who were at least 62 years old.

The PTP program was then set in motion in 1977. This tax was again postponed in 1984 when voters approved Proposition 33, this time it was regardless of age. This postponement of property taxes has helped claimants pay their medical bills as well as meeting the high cost of living.

Program Details

The program provided tax relief in the form of a loan to about 5,000 Californians over two decades. Most of these residents were over the age of 70 and many were even over the age of 90.

These loans were secured by liens that were repaid upon the homeowner's death, sale or transfer of the title or vacating the property without a qualified person continuing to reside in the home. Qualifications for the program included annual household income less than $39,000 with a minimum of 20 percent equity interest and claims filed each year.
Getting arrested and landing a "night in the slammer" is generally not a situation people strive to be in. Unfortunately for some, sometimes, legal issues arise unbeknownst to those involved. With that being said, being in the wrong place at the wrong time is an unfortunate reality for some individuals. Here are some actions that can land you in jail:

Improper care of prescriptions medications. While a medication may be prescribed through a medical authority, without proper packaging, it can result in a fairly substantial legal dilemma.

Driving under the influence of alcohol. While DUIs are generally not an uncommon occurrence in day-to-day society, it is important to recognize not only the legal limit for blood alcohol level (BAC) but also the fluid amounts of alcohol needed to reach such limitations. Specifically, a BAC of 0.08% and above will subject a driver to a DUI in California.

Inappropriate behaviors in public areas of high security. More specifically, areas including but not limited to airports, postal offices and court houses should be heeded as facilities of strict behavioral enforcement. You should not only watch your language but also ensure that you are following all clothing and conduct rules to avoid potential trouble.

Public intoxication. Be cognizant of state and city laws regarding public consumption of alcohol. These vary from city to state, state to state. It’s better to be informed than to risk trouble with local authorities.

Violence and other general acts of physical aggression. Once you have reached the legal age of eighteen, solving conflicts and strife with aggression is no longer considered an understandable route of resolution (not that it was as a minor). Not only can these instances result in extended periods behind bars, but a number of other legal infractions are typically associated with such violations.

Back child support and associated poor parenting. Child Support Jail and Court is a recent innovation to assist legal facilities in tracking and incarcerating those avoiding payment of court order child support funds.

Even innocent people can wind up in jail at some point of time. So.. do you know what to do next? If you or your dear ones are held fast in jail.. Signature Bail Bonds can get you bail!
