Why does God Himself helps His Devotees ??

Once a king in India went to Guru Nanak Dev Ji and asked, “O Guru! As you told us that God Himself supports His true worshiper, but God has so many apostles, why does He support His devotees Himself? Why does not He send His apostles to help the devotees?” As he said this, his own son who was playing at the bank of a nearby river slipped in the river. The king did not waited for a second and jumped in the river right after his son to save his child.

After saving his child he returned to the Guru. The Guru asked, “My dear friend, you were sitting here with me a minute ago and why did you jump in the river?” King explained that his son had slipped in the river and he went to save him.

Then the Guru asked, “Dear friend, you have so many servants then why did you jumped in the river by yourself? Why did not you send you servants to save him?” The King said, “When it come to my son. I do not want to take any chances and would do anything it takes to protect him. I love my son very much and I do not want to lose him at any cost.”

Then Guru Ji said, My dear friend, God loves His devotees the same way as you love your son. That is why he Himself saves His true worshipper.

A brahmin named ajamal, whose name has been mentioned in gurbani a few times. His story did not occur in this age, kaljug, but in another one before this one.

Ajamal was born to a Raaj Purohit and a high caste within already high caste of Hindus i.e. Brahmins.
Raaj Purohit means the main pujaari of a kingdom. A Raaj Purohit is like the head priest of a kingdom and the kings refer to their raaj purohits for any questions on religion.

Ajamal was brought up in a very religious atmosphere and was provided with Sanskrit education from early age. By the time he reached the age of maturity, he became well-versed in all 4 Vedas, 18 Puraanas and other important religious books of those times. His father was a man of high probity and integrity.

He used to admonish him against doing paap karams (sins). He further told him to never go in the southern part of the city because that part of the city was full of scoundrels and prostitutes.

He got married to a beautiful and good-hearted woman. They had a couple of children and led an uneventful life till his father died. He was then appointed to the post of Raaj Purohit. His life continued in normal fashion until that fateful day when he had to go to the southern part of the city. It was probably his destiny to go to that part of the city.

He was on horseback and as he approached the inner city, he came off his horse and parked it by the tree. He started walking on foot and reached that part of the city where there are brothels and pubs. He had never been exposed to such scenes. There were women standing outside the brothels luring customers in. He was taken aback at such open display of Kaam (sex).

Then one woman, who knew all the chalitters (wiles of seduction), looked at Ajamal with such a look that Ajamal got stuck right there. His feet won't move any further. Then she without speaking, just with a hand gesture, asked him to follow her. She was a young and promiscuous woman in her early twenties. He resisted but could not resist for too long. Finally he gave in to the temptation and started walking behind her.

That day changed his life forever. He became a regular visitor to this Ganika (prostitute, bad woman). Soon others found out about his double life. His wife pleaded with him to stop seeing the prostitute but he would not listen. Everyone was wondering why he could not leave this prostitute and what wrong did he see in his beautiful, homely and good-natured wife.

When the king found out, he was quite upset at Ajamal but wanted to give him a second chance out of his respect for Ajamal's father. He tried to persuade Ajamal but soon found out that Ajamal was not going to stop seeing the new woman. Ajamal was spending his money very recklessly and in order to protect his legitimate children and wife, the king decided to banish him from his kingdom. He confiscated all his property and gave it to his wife and children. Thereafter he banished Ajamal and the prostitute from his kingdom.

Great calamities befell on both Ajamal and the prostitute. They moved out of the kingdom and starting leading a very destitute life. Ajamal was left with no money, and now had to work very hard to earn his living. He used to cut wood from jungle all day and sell it in the city. He started gambling, drinking and doing other bad things. He and his mistress used to fight endlessly and had a lot of children together.

The poverty took its toll on Ajamal and he became old before his age. He got infected with many diseases and suffered a lot. He and his mistress had several children together. Ajamal had to work very hard to feed his new family. When Ajamal hit old-age, his body became very weak but he had to work to feed his family. He sometimes used to regret his decision but it was too late to go back now. He knew that no one would accept him back.

Anyway, later in his life he had a son and the day his son was born, some saadhu jan (holy men) came to his house to seek refuge from bad weather. Ajaamal out of his good karma, did sewa of those Sadhoos. The Saadhoos had ridhi-sidhi and sensed that Ajamal had led a very terrible life and that in the next world he would suffer badly in the hands of Jammdoots.

Before leaving they had mercy on Ajamal. They noticed that Ajamal was totally entangled in the attachment of his family and because of his bad karma, he could not do any bhagti. They knew that if he did not do bhagtee i.e. Naam jaap, he would suffer in the hands of Jammdoots. They finally came up with an idea. They told him to name his latest born son "Narayan". Obeying what the saadhoo said, Ajamal named his son - Narayan. We should remember that Narayan is one of the qualitative names of God.

Ajamal became very fond of his son and lovingly called him "Naraayan Naraayan" all day. By this time, his diseases overpowered him and he lay at deathbed. As he lay in his bed, waiting for death, he still had moh for his youngest son and kept calling him lovingly "Naraayan, Naraayan". Saying "Naraayan" seemed very good to him and said more and more of "Naraayan". He felt good saying "Narayan Narayan".

When his death time came close, Jammdoots started visiting him and he could see them approaching him. The sight of Jammdoots greatly terrified him and out of fear, he called his son Narayan by name. He kept saying help me Narayan, save me Narayan. As the Jammdoots approached him, they realized that they could not reach him as he was saying God's naam (Waheguru).

Jammdoots could not get close to him but his end was fast approaching. Ajamal just kept calling his son Narayan and jammdoots totally became helpless. By this time the good angels (devtay) came to get Ajamal. The Jammdoots and the angels started having debate on who was to take him to the next world. This debate is highly interesting and is written in great detail in Sri Madd Bhagwat Puraan.

Anyway, the angels reminded the Jammdoots that whoever does kirtan or recites Naam, jammdoots are not allowed to catch them. The Jammdoots went back to Dharam Rai, their master and Dharam Rai confirmed that whoever does kirtan or Naam, Jammdoots are not allowed to get near them. This dialogue of Dharam Rai is recorded in Gurbani as follows:

ਜਹ ਸਾਧੂ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਭਜਨੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੀਤ ॥
जह साधू गोबिद भजनु कीरतनु नानक नीत ॥
Jah sāḏẖū gobiḏ bẖajan kīrṯan Nānak nīṯ.
Where the Holy people constantly vibrate the Kirtan of the Praises of the Lord of the Universe, O Nanak -

ਣਾ ਹਉ ਣਾ ਤੂੰ ਣਹ ਛੁਟਹਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਜਾਈਅਹੁ ਦੂਤ ॥੧॥
णा हउ णा तूं णह छुटहि निकटि न जाईअहु दूत ॥१॥
Ņā ha▫o ṇā ṯūŉ ṇah cẖẖutėh nikat na jā▫ī▫ahu ḏūṯ. ||1||
the Righteous Judge says, "Do not approach that place, O Messenger of Death, or else neither you nor I shall escape!" ||1||

In the end jammdoots could not reach him and he was taken to the next world by devtaas (good angels of heaven).

Gurbani says this very clearly that whoever says name of Waheguru in the last moments of his or her life, does not go to jammdoots. So Ajaamal, who was maha-paapi, went to heaven instead of going to hell,

CREATION OF KHALSA

On Baisakhi (March 30th) 1699, Guru Gobind Singh created the Khalsa Order; any person calling themselves a Sikh, would have to follow the path set down for them in the Khalsa. This universal brotherhood of humankind was created to destroy all previous barriers seperating fellow Sikhs such as Caste, Creed, Colour or Gender.

Guru ji held a very large gathering & addressed them, "My devoted friends, this sword is daily clamouring for the head of a dear Sikh. Is there anyone among you all ready to lay down his life at a call from me?." He stood firm, grasping a talwar (sword) in his hands. Many people fled, fearing for their lives, but 5 volunteers stood up, turn by turn, volunteering to put their lives in Guru ji's hands.

First,

Bhai Daya Ram, a Khatri form Lahore,

then

Bhai Dharm Das, a farmer from Delhi,

then

Bhai Mokham Chand, a washerman of Dwarka,

then

Bhai Sahib Chand, a barber of Bidar

Bhai Himmat Rai, a water carrier of Jagannath.

They were each one by one, beheaded by Guru ji. Guru Gobing Singh ji was headstrong & continued asking for more volunteers, until his sword had been stained with the blood of 5 loyal GurSikhs. Then, the Guru was satisfied and in a miracle, Guru ji brought forth the 5 volunteers, all now dressed in saffron clothes; orange salwar & kameez uniform, the same as Guru ji. Guru ji gave them the title of 'Panj Pyarae' or '5 beloved ones'.

Then they were asked to recite the Path of Japji Sahib, Jaap Sahib, Anand Sahib, Swayas & Chaupai, while Guru ji stirred Pure water in an Iron vessel with a Khanda (double edged sword). The Khanda was used to represent Sovereign strength & Godly Truthfulness. The Iron vessel represented the strength of a pure heart. The hymns symbolised divine power & to provide a constant link between the Khalsa & God. Patashas (Sugar crystals) were then stirred in, brought in at the time by Mata Sahib Kaur, to bless the Khalsa 'with the grace, warmth & sweetness'. This Amrit, holy water, had thus been prepared & since it was created with the sword, was called, 'Khande ki Pahul'.

Guru ji asked the Sikhs to kneel on their left knees, Guru ji then showered the Amrit into their eyes & asked them, in turn, to speak aloud, "Waheguru ji ka Khalsa, Waheguru ji ki Fatheh", 'the Khalsa belongs to the True Lord, the Victory belongs to the True Lord'. The Amrit was then sprinkled in their hair & they were all asked to take deep draughts of Amrit from the same vessel to bond them together as brothers, destroying distinctions.

Guru Gobind Singh told his Khalsa;

This my order, listen my beloved.
Without Hair and Sword, do not come to me.
Without the rehit, do not call yourself a Sikh.
Without the rehit, you will be suffering.
The first rehit should be taken as being the taking of Amrit.

Guru Gobind Singh sang Waheguru's praises aloud;
YOU are the sign of Victory,
Today, YOU are the World-Warrior,
YOU are Death
YOU are All Power,
YOU are the Sword and Arrow.

After serving Amrit to the Panj Pyarae or 5 beloved ones and baptising them into the Khalsa, he then took Baptism himself from the Panj Pyarae. Then, he gave them an authority; superior to his own! Such an event has never been observed in History when any Prophet has held his Baptees in a higher regard to his own, we record:

Praise be to Gobind Singh, he is the Guru as well as the Servant (of the Khalsa)

Guru Gobind Singh created this Khalsa, Akal Purkh ki Fauj, blessed by Waheguru, they served as Saint Soldiers (Sant Sipahi) of the world. The Khalsa served both to gain full Bhakhti & Spirituallity, but with full Shakti; Physical martial being. After taking Amrit, the Surname 'Singh' was given to males, 'Kaur' to the females.

The Khalsa were to follow the Rehit Maryada (go to Rehit Maryada section) as their code of conduct.

The Panj Pyarae were renamed to

Panj Pyare

Bhai Daya Singh Ji,
Bhai Himmat Singh Ji,
Bhai Mokham Singh Ji,
Bhai Dharam Singh Ji &
Bhai Sahib Singh Ji.

They were given 5 kakkars or 5 religious symbols to be worn at all times,

they include:

Five kakkars

Kesh- Uncut Hair throughout body.
Kirpan- The Kirpa-Aan is a shastar (dagger) used for Righteousness & self-defence as a last resort.
Kanga- This is used to help preserve Hair in Good condition; clean & tidy.
Kara- a bracelet to be worn on right hand, this is a symbol of God's oneness & a constant remider of Sikh values of Self control over the Mann (mind)
Khaccha- Knee length shorts to remind beholder of Self-control & restraint from Kaam (lust)

Khalse ka hau dhar-au dhiaan.
I always contemplate the khalsa prayerfully

Upmaa khalsae jaath na kahi
Eulogy of the khalsa is beyond me.

Jihv-aa ek paar nah lahi.
I cannot fathom full praise of the khalsa with one tongue.

Ya mai ranch na mithe-aa bhaakh-ee.
I certify that I have not mis-stated anything in the foregoing.

Paarbrahm gur Nanak saak-ee.

CHARACTER OF THE KHALSA
He is the Khalsa, who gives up calumny.
He is the Khalsa, who fights in the forefront.
He is the Khalsa, who destroys the five passions.
He is the Khalsa, who burns his past karma.

He is the Khalsa, who renounces pride.
He is the Khalsa, who keeps away from undesirable women.
He is the Khalsa, who covets not other people's wealth.
He is the Khalsa, who is absorbed in His Name.

He is the Khalsa, who is devoted to the Word of the Guru.
He is the Khalsa, who is prepared to encounter
The sword of the enemy courageously.
Knowing the people to be creatures of God: Khaalaq.

Let no one cause sorrow and suffering to the people.
He who wilfully tyrannises over the people
Will be destroyed by the wrath of God.
He is the Khalsa, who helps the poor.

He is the Khalsa, who destroys oppressors.
He is the Khalsa, who contemplates the Name of God.
He is the Khalsa, who attacks the wicked people.
He is the Khalsa, who is absorbed in His presence.

He is the Khalsa, who keeps a war-horse.
He is the Khalsa, who is ever ready for the battle.
He is the Khalsa, who destroys oppressors.
The drums of the glory of God will beat.

No one will dare to abuse and insult God.
The trees and mountains will ring with His Name.
The three worlds will sing His glory.

Guru Gobind Singh ji was asked by Mata Gujri ji, whether he missed seeing his 4 martyred sons, The Master replied, "You are wrong if you think I had only four sons, I have thousands of sons and in them I see the four I sacrificed. Those four sons were four virtues from Waheguru, their body pots were to be smashed so that those virtues could be poured into the Khalsa.

Ajit means unconquerable, My Khalsa would rather die fighting than run like a coward.
Jujhar means warrior, My Khalsa is powerful and strong.
Zorawar means Power, as long as My Khalsa is distinct I will give them all of my power.
Fateh is victory, My Khalsa will fight for Waheguru's victory.

O Mata Ji, when I see one Khalsa with these 4 qualities I see all four son. By creating the Khalsa, Guru Gobind Singh ji had organised the Sikhs so that they weren't just members of a Religion, they were now members of a unique Nation and Ethnic Community, with it's own language, even it's own National Anthem, Dress code & Surnames. Members of this Nation abided by the same Rehit Maryada. Those Sikhs that diverted from the Sikh Spiritual Path can ask the Panj Pyarae for help to remain on the Path to Waheguru. The Sikh's had it's own Government; the Akal Takht, the Temporal Throne of God,. The Akal Takht set down Temporal Authority that was to be abided by all calling themselves Sikhs, guarding the sanctity of the Akal Takht with their lives.

Question to Sikh
Guru Gobind Singh ji, the Tenth Nanak was fully justified in creating the Khalsa, His means are unquestionable, let us not forget Guru Nanak Dev ji also states that he MUST ask this FIRST fundemental question to any potential Sikh:

Jo Tau Prem Khelan Ka Chao

"If you yearn to play the game of love, step on to my path,

Sir dhar tali gali meri aau

With the head placed on the palm of your hand.

It marag pair dharije

And, once you set your feet on this Path,

Sir deejai kaan na keeje

Then lay down your head without any fear or drudge."
(Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Ang 1412)

Since it's creation in 1699, the Khalsa's message has spread out to all parts of the Globe. The Khalsa have served in many wars, such as the Moghul wars lasting many centuries, against the British Invasion of South East Asia, as well as against the Nazis in WorldWar 1 & 2, always protecting the Righteous or meek. The Khalsa proved that normal men and women are capable of extraordinary feats for Righteousness, if need so welcoming Death, but upholding Truth.

KHANDA: as the most powerful shastar, Guru ji stated the double-edged sword was a source of Shakti

CHAKHAR: the circle symbolises the Ever lasting Power of Waheguru is all around us. This was made of Iron & worn by Sikh Warriors around Turbans.

MIRI: this sword signifies Temporal Power. Guru Har Gobind ji wore it to reflect his Shakti.

PIRI: this sword signifies Spiritual Power or Bhakti.

Sikh the Pure..

A wake up call -
Some friends were going from Delhi to Jaipur in a taxi whose driver was a Sardar (Sikh) .
All the friends were making jokes on Sikhs ,
sharing it with each other and laughed at on the journey .

The Sikh driver dos'nt speak anything during the whole journey .
He just listened to them politely and remained patient .

At the end of the journey , he called one of them & said "I will not stop u on making jokes on Sikh neither i will tell u the stories of their bravery.... .Just take this 1(One) Rupee coin and give it to any
poor SIKH beggar "

6(Six) months have passed that 1 Rupee coin is still with those friends.

U know Why ?

Coz he has'nt find any sikh begging anywhere .
Sikhs never give up. they earn with their hardwork and never beg till their last breath .

Still people dont stop making jokes on Sikhs .
Some has realized, when will others....?

Coz its easy to laugh on other but difficult to be like a pure SIKH (a true human) ,

In the late 1970s, during the construction of the Leh-Nimu road, a large boulder was found in the middle of the road bed covered with Buddhists prayer flags by Lamas. The bulldozer driver tried to push and throw away the stone but it did not move and in the process the blades broke and the work stopped. The driver had a dream that night not to move the stone.

He narrated his dream to the army officer who did not give any importance to it. When all efforts to remove it failed it was decided to blow it apart with dynamite the next day. That night the army officer also had a dream not to remove the stone but he again disregarded it. The next day being Sunday he and the workers were visited, early in the morning, by several Lamas and Ladhakhis who came and told them a true story of Baba Nanak ji and the unyielding boulder.

On enquiring further he was told that this pathar they had been having so much trouble with was a "Wax Statue" (a mould with a negative impression) of their revered Lama Nanak and it contained the imprints of his shoulders, head and backside. He was told that during the period of 1515-18 when Guru Nanak was returning back to Punjab through Srinagar, after travelling to Sikkim, Nepal and Tibet, he rested at this place. It is believed that Guru Nanak Dev ji reached Leh via Sikkim, Nepal, Tibet and Yarkhand. The place is revered by both the local lamas and Sikh sangat. Currently the Army is looking after the gurdwara.

As per a local legend, there lived a wicked demon who terrorised the people in the area where the gurdwara is situated. The people prayed to the Almighty for help. It is said that Guru Nanak heard their woes and came to their aid. He settled down on the bank of the river below the hill where the wicked demon lived. The Guru blessed the people with sermons and became popular in the area. The locals called him Nanak Lama. The demon got into a rage and decided to kill Guru Nanak Dev ji.

One morning when the Guru ji was sitting in meditation, the demon rolled down a large pathar (boulder) from the hilltop, with the intention of killing the Guru. The boulder came rolling down and when it touched the Guru's body, it softened like warm wax and came to a halt against Guru Nanak's back. The Guru ji kept on meditating unhurt and undisturbed. Thinking that the Guru ji had been killed, the demon came down and was taken a back to see the Guruji deep in meditation. In a fit of anger, he tried to push the boulder with his right foot, but as the pathar still had the softness of warm wax, his foot got embedded in it. Pulling his foot from the boulder the demon was dumfounded to see the impression his foot had just left in the stone.

On seeing this, the demon realised his own powerlessness as compared with the spiritual powers of the great Guru. He fell at the feet of Guru Nanak Dev ji and begged for forgiveness. Guru Sahib advised him to get rid of his wicked ways and asked him to lead a life of a noble person. This changed the life of the demon, who gave up evil deeds and started serving the people.

Guru Nanak Dev ji thereafter continued his holy journey towards Srinagar via Kargil. The pathar pushed down by the demon, with the imprint of the body of Guru Nanak Dev ji as the the footprint of the demon, is at present on display in Gurdwara Pathar Sahib. It is said that since the visit of Guru Sahib (in 1517) to 1965, the local lamas have held the pathar sacred and offered prayers to it.

Bhai Mardana.... (1459–1534) was the first follower and longtime companion of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism. He was with Nanak in all of his journeys across India and Asia.

Mardana was a Muslim, born to a Mirasi couple, Badra and Lakkho, of Rai Bhoi di Talwandi, now Nankana Sahib of Pakistan.
The Mirasan were a caste of hereditary minstrels and genealogists. Bhai sahib was ten year older than Guru ji and was his childhood friend and companion.

It is said that Mardana first contacted Guru Nanak to seek help as many people in his family were dying at a young age. Guru Nanak gave him the assurance that henceforth people in his clan will not die early. It is said that the name Mardana came from this assurance- Mar- Da- Na meaning 'Does not die'

Guru Nanak and Mardana were both born and raised in the same village. The Miharban Janam Sakhi describes the latter, who was ten years senior in age, as the Guru's companion since his childhood days and as one who sang to him songs from Kabir, Trilochan, Ravidas, Dhanna and Bern. According to Ratan Singh Bhangu, Prachin Panth Prakash, Guru Nanak as a small boy gave Mardana a string instrument improvised from reeds to play on while he sang the hymns.

As Guru Nanak was employed to take charge of the granaries and stores of the Nawab of Sultanpur Lodhi, the stories of his generosity and hospitality spread far and wide. Mardana, already a married man and father of two sons and a daughter, wanted to visit Sultanpur and seek his bounty. Meanwhile, he was charged by Guru Nanak's father Mehta Kalu, to go to Sultanpur and bring news of the welfare of his son. Mardanawent to Sultanpur, never to part company with Guru Nanak again. His occupation was playing the rabab or rebeck as Guru Nanak recited God's glory.

When Guru Nanak prepared to go forth into the world to preach his message, he invited Mardana to accompany him. Mardana hesitated, for he did not wish to leave his family until his daughter had been married off and for this he did not have sufficient means. One of Guru Nanak's disciples, Bhai Bhagirath, bought the needed provisions and Mardana was able to give away his daughter in marriage. He was then ready to accompanyGuru Nanak on his travels.

To relieve the rigour of the journeys, the biographers have described several humorous situations relating to Mardana's touchy behaviour links with desire for food. It is said that he displayed panicky behaviour when prospects of getting the next meal seemed less than certain. He was not easily convinced when Guru Nanak told him to be patient and have trust in something turning up, and wished always to have a reserve of food ready beforehand so that there was certainty that he would not have to endure hunger. The prospect of being without rations created a major problem for Bhai Mardana - hunger-phobia! As the Puratan Janam Sakhi narrates, Guru Nanak and Mardana had not traveled very far from Sultanpur when the latter complained that he felt hungry and needed something to eat immediately.

The Guru pointed to the village they had passed and said that, if he went there, he would be well entertained by Khatris of the Uppal caste who lived in that village. Mardana turned his footsteps in that direction and, arriving in the village, he found everyone more than hospitable. He was fed sumptuously and given ample alms. As he saw him return loaded with a bundle, Guru Nanak, as says the Janam Sakhi, rolled on the ground laughing. Mardana realized the oddity of what he had done and did not know how to get rid of what he had collected. He threw the bundle away when the Guru pointed out to him that those articles would be more of a burden to him.

The Janam Sakhi also contain many anecdotes picturing Mardana in despair out of agonizing hunger or petrifying fear and Guru Nanak or Nature coming to succour him somewhat miraculously. Once the two were passing through a remote wilderness when suddenly a violent storm overtook them. So severe was the tempest that the trees of the jungle began to fly about. Mardana, trembling with fear, thus spoke to the Guru, "True sovereign, thou hast brought me to my death in this forest. I shall not here get a shroud nor a grave." The Guru asked him to remain calm, but Mardana moaned, "I have not faced a calamity like this in my life. What is going to befall my poor soul today?" Then Fire broke out. Smoke was all over and the blaze on all four sides. Mardana covered up his face and laid himself down on the ground saying, "Farewell, life." Then came water. Thick clouds gathered and poured water in torrents. "Raise thy head, Mardana," spoke the Guru, "and take thy rebeck." Mardana tuned the strings and Guru Nanak sang: "If the fear of God is in the heart, all other fear is dispelled..."

According to Puratan Janam Sakhi, Mardana and the Master were taken prisoner by the Mughals at Saidpur. The Guru was given a load to carry on his head and Mardana to lead a horse holding its rein. Mir Khan, the Mughal commander, saw that the Guru's bundle was floating a cubit above his head and Mardana's horse was following him without the reins. He reported the miracle to Sultan Babar, who remarked, "Had there been such faqirs here, the town should not have been struck." Mir Khan asked him to see for himself.

There is some dispute amoung the historian about the place where Bhai ji died but it is believed that in 1534 fell ill and died in Baghdad on the return journey (udasis) from the east. With a heavy heart Guru ji performed the obsequies of Mardana with his own hands. A humble monument was erected in memory of Mardana.

Within an enclosure on a wall an inscription in mixed Turkish and Arabic marks the site. Mardana was called Murad by the residents of Baghdad and being older than Nanak by ten years was considered Guru. Consequently the inscription which was put up after Guru Nanak's departure said:

"Guru Murad died. Baba Nanak faqir helped in constructing this building, which is an act of grace from a virtuous follower, 927 A.H." Mardana appears to have died in December 1534 A.D. at the age of 75. The monument lies near a graveyard, 2.5 kilometres away from the railway station.

Upon the Guru's return to Punjab, Guru ji informed and consoled Mardana's son Shahzada, and other members of his family and asked them not to weep for Bhai ji as he had returned to his heavenly home.

The Qazi had a beautiful daughter, Kaulan who was a disciple of Mian Mir. From her childhood she had occupied her mind praising God's Name and remembering Him in the company of the saints.

Through the holy company of Mian Mir, she had heard praises of Satguru Sri Guru Har Gobind Sahib Ji Maharaj and she praised Satguru Ji in the midst of her own family.

This incensed her father very much who addressed her, "O Infidel, you praise an infidel (Guru) and obey not the law of Mohammad, according to which it is forbidden, under penalty of death, to praise an infidel."

Kaulan replied, "Father dear, the law of Mohammad does not apply to holy men. Saints are God's servants."

On hearing this from her daughter, the Qazi burnt with bigotry and indignation. After consulting his brother Qazis, he issued an order for the execution of his daughter, Kaulan for her sin of transgressing the Mohammad law.

Kaulan's mother informed her daughter and Mian Mir about the order of the Qazi. Mian Mir recommended to Kaulan, "There appears no means of saving you here. It is better if you go to Amritsar and seek protection of Satguru Sri Guru Har Gobind Sahib Ji Maharaj, the king of kings and the saint of saints. None else but he can save your life." Kaulan heeded Mian Mir's advice and went to Amritsar.

Kaulan began her life at Amritsar under the protection of Satguru Ji. She was given a separate building to reside. Kaulan found consolation in repeating following Shabad:

Quite a bit of time passed in this manner until one day she took all her jewels and placed them before the king of kings, Satguru Ji, Sri Guru Har Gobind Sahib Ji Maharaj and said, "O friend of the poor, please apply the price of these jewels to some religious object by which my name may be remembered in the world for sometime."

Satguru Ji got a tank excavated in her name with that money in 1621. The tank is still famous as Kaulsar in the city of Amritsar.

When Nadir Shah couldn’t gain victory over Sikhs, he became frustrated and asked Subedaar of Lahore, “Tell me, who are these Sikhs ?”

Subedar answered, “This is a group of hermits who believe in bathing twice in the sacred lake of their Guru and then become invisible.

Where they disappear, no one can make it out.” Nadir Shah became curious, he asked again, “Where do they live ?” And the answer was, “Their homes are saddles of their horses”.

This aroused more curiously in Nadir Shah, he asked again, “What do they eat ?” They eat grams as if they are fried almonds.”

All the answer bewildered Nadir Shah and after contemplating for some time he said, “Beware of these people, they are courageous people and the day is not so far when they will conquer the whole country”

Swami Ram Tirath, being the most notable teachers of hinduism, is also author of books like Supreme Scriptures, Sri Guru Granth Sahib and Paramount Religion, Khalsa Panth.

"Just as the Guru Granth Sahib abated the social injustice, perpetuated against low castes through religious creeds, same way it raised voice in favor of basic rights of the womankind. Here the husband is not said to be the God and the woman the slave or purchased sheep or goat, but (she) has been accepted an equal partner in all (socio-familial) matters. Lopsided dicta of Hindu simirties that vilified women and compelled them to live like captives, was implicitly contravened through Gurus’ Words. Guru Nanak Dev Ji saying that when the whole mankind takes birth from the woman and there is need for woman to perpetuate the life cycle asked, then why the woman is vilified?

In the Adi Granth there is no credo regarding barbaric worship neither any importance for ritual feast (to holy quakes) or sacrifices. Similarly no regard is accorded to Vaishnava or goddess worship because in the puranas it is said that they both (Hindu Goddess and Vishnu, one of Hindu god trinity) relish barbarous intakes i.e. meat, alcohol, marijuana, hemp, tobacco, hashish, cannabis etc.
In the end I want to mention Guru Granth Sahib’s supremacy from the standpoint that this preeminent Granth does not profess any demigod or goddess to be the real God just as the (Hindu) puranas have done. Each purana’s author has made a God out of his conceptual demigod."

When Kalpana Chawla's father had an opportunity to visit the NASA centre at San Jose, America (in September 2004), he was shown a volume of an English translation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib jee kept at the NASA library. Her father was told that when scientists get tired of searching and searching the universe, when they seek inspiration and need to uplift their souls, they turn to read the translations of Guru Nanak's poetry and divine-songs which magnificently describe the awe and wonder of the Universe. The scientists at NASA admit that apart from being a spiritual enlightener the living guru of sikhs SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB is full of scientific wealth too. They further supported their advocation after they tested all others holy books but nobody could withstand the scientific tests apart from Sri Guru Granth Sahib. As for example Bible aclaimed that earth is flat but NASA found earth to be round; Guru Granth Sahib already said it.

Another discovery which made NASA spell bound was that way back when discovring about whether sun is moving or earth. And they reached a conclusion that sun is stationary and all others planets are revolving around it. But Guru Nanak Dev ji 500 years back in Asa ji di Var said: "Bhey Wich pavan vahe as waho...Bhey wich chand,Bhey wich suraj." "A man just got married and was returning home with his wife. They were crossing a lake in a boat when suddenly a great storm arose.

The man was a warrior, but the woman became very much afraid because it seemed almost hopeless -- THE BOAT WAS SMALL AND THE STORM WAS REALLY HUGE, AND ANY MOMENT THEY WERE GOING TO BE DROWNED. But the man sat silently, calm and quiet, as if nothing was happening.

The woman was trembling and she said, "Are you not afraid? This may be our last moment of life! IT DOESN'T SEEM THAT WE WILL BE ABLE TO REACH THE OTHER SHORE. Only some miracle can save us, otherwise death is certain. Are you not afraid? Are you mad or something? Are you a stone or something?"

THE MAN LAUGHED AND TOOK THE SWORD OUT OF ITS SHEATH. The woman was even more puzzled -- what he is doing? Then he brought the naked sword close to the woman's neck -- so close that just a small gap was there, it was almost touching her neck.

The process used to sing Guru Granth Sahib ji verses is known as Kirtan. The poetry of Sri Guru Granth Sahib is worthy of the highest consideration. Gurbani texts present the teachings of the Gurus and a large number of it was composed simultaneously with the music.

Music forms the basis of the rhythms and is also the basis on which much of the Gurbani is classified in Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

This music follow a definite metrical system called Raags. A raag in Indian classical music means a pattern of melodic notes. This form is not only used to preserve the originality of the composition, as the poetry written in this form is difficult to imitate, but more so to provide the divine experience through the medium of music and the sounds of God’s creation.

The total number of ragas used in Sri Guru Granth Sahib is 31.

The GURUS themselves invented some of these. Under each Raag, the hymns are arranged in different meters as Chaupadas and Ashtapadas; long poems include Chhands, Vars, and Bhagat verses. You can find a collection of Shabds sung in each of these 31 raags here.

In the time of Guru Arjan Dev ji, there was a powerful, wealthy Rajput by the name of Teeratha. Teeratha was a follower of the Muslim sect of Sakhee Sarvar. As the local leader of the sect, he had hundreds of followers who all respected him. Teeratha would regularly lead the members of this sect on a pilgrimage to the main Sakhee Sarvar shrine, now in Pakistan.

Meeting the Guru

Once when passing through Amritsar, Teeratha decided to visit Guru Arjan Dev ji. He had heard that there was a great Guru who had a large following and this Guru was spiritually enlightened. He was curious to know who this Guru was and what he would say. He decided to stop off and see the Darbar of Guru Arjan. When he saw the Darbar, he saw that people of many different backgrounds, and castes were all sitting together and living in harmony. He also heard the keertan in the darbaar, and the keertan left a permanent mark on him. He heard of the great gift of Naam and the thirst to have this gift rose within him. He was the leader of hundreds of Sakhee Sarvar followers but he could no longer follow that path. He realised that Sikhi is the path he must follow.

He came to Guru Arjan Dev jee and introduced himself. Guru jee saw how rich and powerful Teeratha was and when Teeratha begged for Naam and to be initiated into the Sikh faith, Guru ji replied, "Being a Sikh is no easy thing. The path is finer than a hair and sharper than the khanda. The primary principle of Sikhee is humility." Teeratha again repeated his request. Guru Arjan Dev jee then said, "Why do you want to be a Sikh? You are a rich and powerful man with hundreds of followers.

You can continue on the easy path of Sakhee Sarvar, because the Sikh path is very hard. If you become a Sikh, you will lose your followers and all their respect and you will lose your wealth as well. You may even have to pay for this decision with your life. What use is there in becoming a Sikh for you?" But Teeratha was insistent he begged that nothing mattered. If he lost everything it would not matter, he needed naam. With tears in his eyes he begged for naam. Guru Arjan Dev jee accepted his request and initiated him into Sikhee and gave him Naam.

Teeratha decided to not return home and took leave of his followers. He decided to stay with the Guru for some time. The Sikhs knew that Teeratha was from the Manjh clan and began to call him Bhai Manjh. Bhai Manjh did seva in the darbaar and one day Guru Arjan Dev jee called him and asked him to return to his village and preach Sikhee to his old followers.

Return to the Village and Disaster

Bhai Manjh returned to his village and began the work of preaching Sikhee to the followers of Sakhee Sarvar. In his home, there was a shrine to Sakhee Sarvar which was revered by all the local followers. Bhai Manjh reached home and immediately had it demolished. Many of his old followers who had considered him a Guru heard Bhai Manjh's message that Guru Arjan was the true Satguru and the source of all happiness. They too decided to become Sikhs and began to recite baaNee. Bhai Manjh and the new devotees of the Guru decided to build a Dharamshaala (Sikh place of gathering) in the village where they could daily meet and do sangat.

While the construction of the Dharamshala was still going on, some Sakhee Sarvar leaders came to the village and saw that so many followers had become Sikhs. They spoke to Bhai Manjh and asked him to renounce Sikhee or face a terrible price. They said that he was powerful and a high official in the Sakhee Sarvar sect and he would lose all this if he did not come to his senses. Bhai Manjh sent them away and was insistent that he would remain a Sikh. The Sakhee Sarvar leaders left the village but heaped countless curses on Bhai Manjh and vowed that he would regret his decision.

Within a few days of this event, one night, all of Bhai Manjh's cattle died. It was unexplainable how all cattle could die in one night. In the following nights, cattle began to die in neighbouring houses as well. The villagers began to believe that perhaps the curse of Sakhee Sarvar was responsible and by becoming Sikhs and destroying the shrine, they had made a serious mistake. More and more cattle began to die each night and the villagers decided to break off from Bhai Manjh. They declared that they had nothing to do with Bhai Manjh and his new religion. They removed him from his position as village head. Bhai Manjh now began to lose his wealth as well and soon poverty entered his home.

Poverty

Before, poor and needy people used to come to Bhai Manjh to request for help and money. People would still come now but he himself was living in abject poverty. Bhai Manjh had absolutely no extra wealth to give to anybody. BhaiManjh was in a desperate situation and he decided to visit the new village head. Bhai Manjh offered his home to be rented out for some money so he could feed his family. The village head agreed to the proposal but added the condition that Bhai Manjh's wife would become his housemaid. His wife would be paid for her labour as well.

Bhai Manjh returned home absolutely shattered. He was once the most powerful man in the village and today he was being forced to make his wife a maid. When Bhai Manjh's wife asked him what the village head had said. Bhai Manjh haltingly explained the offer he was given. Bhai Manjh's wife listned and then said that in such hard times she too was willing to make sacrifices and if they had to lower their dignity by doing a job such as that of maid, then so be it. They had to marry off their young daughter and needed money to raise their family. Bhai Manjh's wife agreed to go work for the village head.

Bhai Manjh fell asleep that night in deep sadness. The next morning his wife would leave to begin her new job. He thought of Guru Arjan and wondered why the Guru would put his Sikh through such pain. How could the Guru allow him to see such days? Then understanding dawned: this must be the Guru's test. The Guru had said that he would have to sacrifice his all for Naam. Bhai Manjh was determined not to fail this test. He felt shame that he had ever questioned the will of the Guru.

Serving the Guru

The next morning Bhai Manjh's wife gathered her clothes and left for the village head's home. Bhai Manjh decided to also leave the village. He left for Amritsar with his daughter and decided to spend his time doing seva. Bhai Manjhbegan to take the seva of bringing wood for the langar, cleaning the dishes, serving the visiting sangat and any other seva he could find. The Guru too heard of Bhai Manjh's sevaa. He called Bhai Manjh to come see him.

Bhai Manjh and his daughter appeared before the Guru and bowed. They stood before Satguru Arjan and waited for him to speak. Guru Arjan asked, "Bhai Manjh, where do you eat?" Bhai Manjh replied, "Satguru, I eat from your langar…"
Guru Arjan jee then said, "well then, what you do is nothing but wage-labour isn't it?"
The sangat was stunned. They knew Bhai Manjh had sacrificed his entire wealth and prestige to become a Sikh and now did more seva than anyone else in the Darbaar. How could Guru jee have humiliated him like this in front of everyone? After all, the Langar was open to everyone, why would Guru jee say such a thing?

Bhai Manjh was once a powerful and proud aristocrat with hundreds of followers. He now hung his head and then said, "Satguru, you are wise. Please give me the wisdom to understand and accept your Hukam." Guru jee did not reply. Bhai Manjh then bowed and took his leave with his daughter.

Bhai Manjh now decided to no longer eat in the langar. He decided to collect two bundles of wood from now on and he would give one to the langar and sell the other to earn his living and use it to purchase his food. BhaiManjh's daughter asked her father why the Guru was so merciless to him. Bhai Manjh immediately replied, "No no! The Guru is merciful. He is testing our faith. We can not fail."
The Final Test

Bhai Manjh would rise early and begin to collect wood for seva and also to sell. After giving the first bundle and selling the second, the two would return to the Darbaar and do seva all day. He would put all his extra money into the Golak. Guru jee once came to Bhai Manjh and asked why he still stayed despite being so poor and having lost everything. Guru jee said he should go home. Bhai Manjh replied, "Mahaaraaj, please never speak of having to leave your feet. Sachay Patshah, worldly wealth is a dream and so it comes and goes. Nothing is lost. I have lost my worldly wealth and found your true treasure of Naam. No thief will take this treasure from me and no King will seize it. " Guru jee gave his blessings to Bhai Manjh and moved on.

One day early in the morning when Bhai Manjh was going to the langar to give wood, such a dust storm arose that he could see nothing. Bhai Manjh stumbled and fell into a well. Day broke and Bhai Manjh still had not returned and everyone understood he must be in trouble. The Sikhs began to search for him and heard him call out from the well. One Sikh ran to Guru Arjan to tell him what had happened and Guru jee immediately dashed bare foot to the well. They threw a rope into the well and asked Bhai Manjh to pull himself out.

Bhia Manjh jee called from the depth of the well, "Please, first pull the wood out for the langar! If they become wet, they will be of no use and not burn. If I am wet, nothing will happen." Bhai jee tied the wood bundle to the rope and had it pulled out. Only then did Bhai Manjhpull himself out.

When Bhai Manjh climbed out of the well, Guru Arjan was standing before him. Bhai Manjh fell at Guru jee's feet. Guru Arjan asked, "Bhai Manjh! What have you gained by following me? You have lost your wealth, your status, and even your wife. You have lost everything!"
Bhai Manjh held Guru jee's feet even tighter and with tears in his eyes replied, "No Satguru! I have not lost anything. I have only gained. Please don't push me away, this is my only request of you…"

Guru Arjan Dev jee then said, "Bhai Manjh, your sevaa has borne fruit. Ask for anything you want."

Bhai Manjh replied, "Guru jee, bless me that I may never want anything. May I always be content"

Guru jee replied, "It will happen as you request. But still, request something Bhai Manjh…"

Bhai Manjh then said, "If you are happy with me, then have this mercy. It is Kaljug. Please do not scold and test so harshly. May your Sikhs not have to bear such hardships."
Guru Maharaj again said, "This too will happen, but still request something Bhai Manjh." Bhai Manjh finally replied, "May my consciousness remain at your feet and may I never forget the meditation of your Naam. If you wish to bless me, then bless me with gift of limitless faith."

Guru Arjan heard these words and then said, "Manjh is the beloved of the Guru and the Guru is beloved ofManjh. Manjh is the ferry of the Guru who will ferry across the world ocean."

Guru Arjan sent Bhai Manjh home and told him all had been returned. Bhai Manjh did not understand how this would be possible, but had complete faith in the Guru.

Everything Restored

Bhai Manjh's wife had been working in the house of the village head and she made such an impression on him that he decided to make her his sister. He requested that she take the responsibility of raising his only son. He also gave back Bhai Manjh's home where she could raise the boy. Bhai Manjh returned home and was informed of all that had happened and was stunned.
Bhai Manjh never left the support of the Guru. Even at the darkest time he had faith it was all a test and if he stayed firm in his faith, nothing would happen to him. Bhai Manjh was appointed the entire Doaba area to preach Sikhee and he opened a Dharamshaalaa in his home. The langar that Bhai jee opened was famous all around. Many people became Sikhs because of his parchaar. When Guru Arjan Dev jee came to visit the Doaba area in 1596, he made a point of specially visiting Bhai Manjh and praised him for his parchaar.

Bhai Manjh jee is the embodiment of faith and perseverance. Nothing in life could turn him away from the Guru and in the end, the Guru kept and protected his Sikh.

Join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; vibrate and meditate on the Jewel of the Naam. ||1||

Every night the queen would leave the king’s palace to join the holy congregation and meditate on God. “She would join the holy congregation and spend the whole night by hearing the holy hymns. After she left, the King awoke in the middle of the night and realized she had gone. He could not find the Queen anywhere and his heart was filled with astonishment”

ਸੁਖੁ ਰਾਜੇ ਹਰੀ ਚੰਦ ਘਰਿ ਨਾਰਿ ਸੁ ਤਾਰਾ ਲੋਚਨ ਰਾਣੀ।

At night she would go to the place where in the form of holy congregation, would recite the holy hymns.

The King thought that Tara might be cheating on him, not realizing that Tara goes to worship and meditates on God. The queen was a great devotee of God. She would reach the holy congregation, take her sandals off, join the other devotees in worshipping and meditating on God. “The following night he followed the young queen. The queen reached the holy congregation and the King lifted one of her sandals to prove her infidelity”

ਪਿਛੈ ਰਾਜਾ ਜਾਗਿਆ ਅਧੀ ਰਾਤਿ ਨਿਖੰਡਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ।

Pichhai Raajaa Jaagiaa Adhee Raati Nikhandi Vihaanee.

पिछै राजा जागिआ अधी राति निखंडि विहाणी ।

After she had left, the King awoke in the middle of the night and realised she had gone.

The queen reached the holy congregation and the King lifted one of her sandals from there (so that he could prove the infidelity of the queen).

6 ਵਾਰਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ : ਵਾਰ ੧੦ ਪਉੜੀ ੬ ਪੰ. ੬

The king waited outside the place where the congregation was being held. Queen came outside after meditating on God. “Because she had meditated on God in the holy congregation, one sandal became a pair. The king was astonished and realized that her matching sandal was a miracle. King said, I would devote myself to the holy congregation”. The matching sandal was a result of the miracle performed by God to protect His devotee.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਜੋੜੀ ਜੁੜੀ ਖੜਾਉ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ।

Saadhasangati Aaraadhiaa Jorhee Jurhee Kharhaau Puraanee.

When about to go, the queen concentrated upon the holy congregation and the one sandal became a pair.

Long, long time ago, there lived a king called Uttanapada. King Uttanapada had two queens, Suniti and Suruchi.

Queen Suniti was the older queen. She was good and kind and gentle. She had a little son called Dhruv. Queen Suruchi, the younger queen, was very beautiful, but proud and haughty. Suruchi, too, had a son, who was called Uttama.

Suruchi was determined that her son Uttama should be king when he grew up. But since Dhruv was the older son, he was more likely to be made king. So Suruchi decided to get rid of Suniti and her baby son Dhruv.

Now, Suruchi was also the King's favourite queen. Uttanapada loved her for her beauty, and was willing to do anything to make her happy. So Suruchi made him banish Suniti and Dhruv into the forest, far away from the royal palace.

Suniti lived quietly in the forest, bringing up her little son, who soon grew to be a bright, clever little boy. One day, when Dhruv was of seven, he asked Suniti, 'Mother, who is my father?'

Suniti smiled sadly. 'The great King Uttanapada himself is your father, Dhruv,' she said. 'He lives far away in the royal palace.'

'I want to meet my father,' said Dhruv. 'Please, Mother, can I go and visit him in his palace?'

Suniti blessed him, and let him go.

Soon Dhruv reached the King's palace. King Uttanapada was sitting in his gardens, admiring the flowers and listening to the birds. Dhruv ran up to him, and touched his feet. 'Oh King,' said Dhruv. 'Do you recognize me? I am Dhruv, your son.' The King was overjoyed. He picked up the little boy and sat him on his lap.

Just then, Suruchi appeared, holding her small son Uttama by the hand. She was furious when she realised that the little boy in the King's lap was Dhruv. 'You horrible little brat,' she cried, 'How dare you come here?' And snatching Dhruv out of the King's arms she threw him out of the palace.

'Never, ever, come back,' Suruchi screamed at Dhruv. 'It is my son Uttama - not you - who will be king one day. There is no place here for you or your mother.'

Dhruv went back to his mother in the forest. He was very quiet and thoughtful all day long. Finally he asked Suniti, 'Ma, is there anyone more powerful than the King?'

'Yes,' said his mother. 'Narayan is more powerful than the King.'

'Where does he live?' asked Dhruv.

'Far away, in the mountains,' answered Suniti.

That night, when his mother was asleep, Dhruv left the house and began walking towards the mountains. He walked and he walked and he walked, and thought only of Narayan. Narayan is no other than the great GOD , the Preserver of the world.

Finally he came to the edge of the northern sky, where he met the sage Narad and asked him, 'Where can I find Narayan?'

'Stay right where you are,' answered Narad. 'Think only of Narayan, and have patience. You will find him.'

So Dhruv stopped where he was, and meditated, thinking only of Narayan. His meditations released such tremendous energy that the very earth shook and disturbed the Saptarishis, the Seven Sages, who were meditating nearby. They wondered who it could be who was releasing such energy by the strength of his meditation. 'It must be a great king, or a GOD,' they said, 'to have so much power.' They were amazed to find it was only a little boy. The Rishis surrounded him and prayed with him as he meditated.

Soon Indra, the King of the Gods, became worried. What does this little boy want from Narayan?' he wondered. 'Maybe it is my throne in the heavens that he will ask for!'

So Indra tried to distract Dhruv from his meditation. He took on the form of Suniti, Dhruv's mother, and begged him to come back home. But Dhruv barely heard. Indra sent all kinds of monsters and snakes and evil creatures to scare the boy and make him give up his meditation, but Dhruv stood still and calm, unaware of everything except Narayan.

Ultimately Vishnu himself noticed the boy and felt the strength of his meditation. 'I must grant him what he wants,' said the great god Narayan to himself. 'Such perseverance and steadiness of purpose must be rewarded.'

So Narayan came down to the forest, and stood before Dhruv. 'I am here, Dhruv,' he said. 'What is it that you want so much?' But Dhruv only smiled when he saw Narayan.

So LORD turned Dhruv into a little star and placed him high in the sky, above the world, and away from all jealousy and evil. The Seven Rishis, who had protected Dhruv as he prayed, LORD turned into seven bright stars and placed them protectively around the little Dhruv-star.

Even today, when you look up into the sky, you will be able to see a little star shining high above. This little star never moves, for it is Dhruv, who never moved from his meditation of Narayan. We call this star the pole star. Children in India still call it 'Dhruv-tara' or 'Dhruv-star'.

The seven stars of the Seven Rishis can also be seen, slowly moving around the pole star. These Seven Stars form the constellation known as Saptarishi in India, and as the Great Bear in other parts of the world.

नारदु ध्रू प्रहलादु सुदामा पुब भगत हरि के जु गणं ॥
Nāraḏ ḏẖarū parahlāḏ suḏāmā pub bẖagaṯ har ke jo gaṇaŉ.
Naarad, Dhroo, Prahlaad and Sudaamaa are accounted among the Lord's devotees of the past.

नउ निधि ठाकुरि दई सुदामै ध्रूअ अटलु अजहू न टरिओ ॥३॥
Na▫o niḏẖ ṯẖākur ḏa▫ī suḏāmai ḏẖarū▫a atal ajhū na tari▫o. ||3||
Sudama's Lord and Master blessed him with the nine treasures; he made Dhroo permanent and unmoving; as the north star, he still hasn't moved. ||3||

Strange but True..

Isn't it strange how a £20 note seems like such a large amount when you donate it to the Gurdwara, but such a small amount when you go for shopping?

Isn't it strange how 2 hours seem so long when you're at the Gurdwara, and how short they seem when you're watching a good movie?

Isn't it strange that you can't find a word to say when you're praying, but you have no trouble thinking what to talk about with a friend?

Isn't it strange how difficult and boring it is to read one chapter of the Guru Granth Sahib, but how easy it is to read 100 pages of a popular novel?

Isn't it strange how everyone wants front-row-tickets to concerts or games, but they do whatever is possible to sit at the back of the Gurdwara?

Isn't it strange how difficult it is to learn a fact about Waheguru to share it with others, but how easy it is to learn, understand, extend and repeat gossip?

Isn't it strange how we believe everything that magazines and newspapers say, but we question the words in the Guru Granth Sahib?

Isn't it strange how everyone wants a place in heaven, but they don't want to believe, do, or say anything to get there?

Still there is time to understand.....

ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਭਰਮਤ ਫਿਰਿਓ ਮਿਟਿਓ ਨ ਜਮ ਕੋ ਤ੍ਰਾਸੁ ॥
जनम जनम भरमत फिरिओ मिटिओ न जम को त्रासु ॥
Janam janam bẖarmaṯ firi▫o miti▫o na jam ko ṯarās.
Mortals wander lost and confused through countless lifetimes; their fear of death is never removed.
