Less than a week ago America saw a Black president swarn in, a huge step for a nation that saw coloured people enslaved not too long ago.

How is it that we still do not have same sex marriage recognized? Are we not supposed to be world leaders? Are we not supposed to set an example for the rest of the world? Will there be a time, 50 years down the line when we can see a Homosexual president take charge of the nation? Will we ever be a nation of equals?

I lost my partner to AIDS 4 years ago and ever since have been fighting for what should legally be mine. In doing so I also lost my parents and 2 “good friends” who couldn’t come to terms with my sexuality.

It’s never too late to change

My son told me he was gay a few years ago, shortly after which my daughter also came out. I thought having two gay children was some sort of punishment, had I failed them in their upbringing? What had I done to deserve this? I turned them away as it all proved too much for me to handle. Months and years went by with little or no contact and I was deeply upset.

One day the subject came up in conversation with a new friend who was telling me about her gay son, she helped me understand that it had nothing to do with me, that I was hurting my children more than society or anyone else ever could, that I should embrace them and their sexuality and together we would find happiness.

I apologized to my children and asked for their forgiveness and we have cultivated our relationship ever since. I am old fashionecd and set in my ways but I have learned to change, you can too!

I come from Albania and I am 23 years old of age. My family are Muslims and I know what they have been through hell jut to live by the rules of Islam and so called tradition’s. They are unfortunately like many other Muslims. I feel sad that they are trapped inside themselves and not be able to seek and really get to know the meaning of love. One should be able to love without fear. Religion in my opinion plays god upon our children and in our family they have poisoned my poor mum which I miss so much. Because of Islam I have lost my two beautiful sisters and my mum my one eye.

Theres a law trying to be passed that if a gay person is asked if they are gay, they cant tell. Is this supposed to be good? What if the gay man wants to meet more gay men? If you think about it, its only doing something for those in the closet.

There are too many people who can’t love the one they want. Romeo and Juliet were in the wrong families, many people are in the wrong religion or have the wrong beliefs.

Why can’t a man love another man? Or a woman love another woman? We should all be allowed to love who we want to love. Simple as.
