Why not, right? You should put bacon on everything. And just like that, another BCOL is launched. What does bacon have to do with it? Nothing… and everything, but really still nothing.

I’m gearing up for an end of the year show and I want your help. Email me, comment on me or facebook comment on tracks from the past BCOL shows you’d like to see included in this Best of 2009 Best of the Best of the Brown Couch of Leisure.

Yes, that is the title and yes it’s awesome.

I’ve started my list and it’s pretty darn good, but what kind of podcasting host would I be, if I took all the fun. I’d be terrible and one of the things I pride myself on, is my lack of terrible. It’s a good thing to pride oneself on.

Further more, that’s it.

I’m so excited by a couple tracks included this week… I’m glad to hear a new track by the Cold War Kids… not only a new track, but a GOOD one. I hope this new album delivers on all the promise they had in those early EPs. I also just nabbed the new album by “The Editors,” which I didn’t even hear was out, or anything, so I look forward to listening to the rest of that soon. I’ve also got a track from the Schomberg Fair’s new album, which I’ve been listening to over and over again for the last couple weeks. At first I found the whole punk-banjo thing kind of jarring, but now I embrace it and the band’s unique sound. Part of me really wonders where the band is coming from though… at times the songs seem to come from a really honest spiritual place (”Strange Kind of Grace” is one I find encouraging and special myself), and at other times they seem to just be taking the piss out of a genre that suits what they’ve morphed into. There’s also a song by Jookabox, a group I haven’t heard before, but after hearing this, I’m looking at exploring further. Have a great week everybody. And a happy Yanksgiving to you south of the border.

I know some of my listeners are familiar with the cartoon The Boondocks. I used its theme song in a previous episode from long ago and got a couple comments. In the show, we’re eventually introduced to a character named “A Pimp Named Slickback”. People try to shorten it, but he corrects them, informing them that you can’t shorten it, that it’s like “A Tribe Called Quest”. What does this have to do with my podcast? Am I playing A Tribe Called Quest? Not really. I am playing a cover of A Tribe Called Quest song, so you’ll have to be happy with that. Onto the playlist:

A Day To Remember - Since U Been Gone from “For Those Who Have Heart”

Del The Funky Homosapien - Lyrics To Go 2009
Pigeon John - The Last Sunshine featuring RJD2 & J-Live from “And The Summertime Pool Party”
Hawk Nelwon - Ode To Stanley from “Live Life Loud”

Joy Electric - When You Were Young from “Favorites At Play”
Fox Jaws - Youth Dance from “At Odds (Or Exercises in Separation While United in the Fall)”
The Paint Movement - Knock Knock from “Our Eurythmy”
John K. Samson - Heart Of The Continent from “City Route 85″

Ely Falls - Transit Light (Kaleidoscope) from “Let Your Yes Be Yes”

Thanks for listening and we’ll see you next week.

Ahoy kids!

After I’m done creating a show, I often realize I forget to say things or forget what is happening in the future… it’s weird. I didn’t mention Thanksgiving at all, yet I love it and have a lot to be thankful for. I often say I’ll reference things which I don’t (this show for sure). Luckily I have this platform to do my dirty work… so here is goes:

1) Thanksgiving: Hope you spend it with family and friends and I hope you have as much to be thankful for as I do. Plus, thanks for music for being awesome.

2) Some tracks in this show were on because they are new and others for other reasons. Here are some other reasons:

I just re-read and re-watched High Fidelity (by Nick Hornby) for the 20-some-odd-time. Why does this matter? Well, after I found the re-released My Bloody Valentine stuff, I just had to add some Jesus & Mary Chain and then they came to fill the void left off where my precious Echo and the Bunnymen left off (it’s from the movie) but is a great scene, but also fit well into this show.

After High Fidelity, I then started re-reading Welcome to the Monkeyhouse, which is a collection of short stories by Kurt Vonnegut and it is amazing. Of course, the Dandy Warhols have an album which is titled Welcome to the Monkeyhouse which I listened too, which got me to listening to other Dandy’s and there you have the track included. Whew… That’s a lot of work for a few tracks, but they all paid off.

Oh yeah, and still doing Blip.FM so check that out!

We all like covers, just admit it. It’s fun and unique to hear other people play a song that’s familiar to you but in a completely different style. I tend to play a lot of covers but I try to spread them out a little so you don’t get sick of them. Somehow, I wound up picking 4 songs this week that have been redone. That may not seem like much but since I’m only playing 8 songs, 50% of the material that you’re about to hear was not written by the performing artist. It just kind of happened as I was putting it together this week. However, after listening to the playlist a couple times it seemed to fit pretty well and I didn’t want to mess with it, so this is what you get. Next week should have a much lower percentage of cover songs.

The Misfits - Dream Lover from “Project 1950″

The Schomberg Fair - Drunkard’s Prayer from “Gospel”
Old Canes - Next Flood from “Feral Harmonic”
David Bazan, Rosie Thomas, J. Tillman, Laura Gibson, John Totten And Chris Totten - Hard Times from “Come O Spirit! Anthology of Hymns And Spiritual Songs Volume 1″

Silver Speakers - Kensington Market from “Silver Speakers”
Over The Rhine - Son Of A Preacher Man from “Live from Nowhere, Volume One”
Violent Femmes - Crazy

Poor Old Lu - Speak Soft from “Straight Six”

Thanks for listening and I’ll see you next week.
