UX Designer for Iconic Public Aussie Company

PushStart is working with a number of Australian corporates in helping them to connect with the startup and developer communities. As part of that they’ve asked us to help them search for some key people for their teams.

Below is one of these. NB: The job is not with PushStart, it’s with a partner company

Accountabilities

· Take responsibility for ensuring that shopping with Company is a world-class experience

· Protect, maintain and enhance the Company online user experience – all channels (desktop, tablet, mobile)

· Ensure all site features meet standards for ease, convenience and speed, as well as accessibility

· Provide thought leadership to the CX and other teams

· Articulate UX design principles and promote these across the organisation

· Ensure our UX is effective and commercial – ie that it delivers results

Responsibilities

Working with our strategic UX design agency, this hands-on role will:

· Define and maintain a set of UX principles for Company online

· Do detailed UX design to elaborate concepts during build phase

· Work closely with IT to ensure designed experiences are technically feasible

· Work with Marketing, Merchandise and other key departments to deliver best-in-class experiences, whether for a specific campaign or a new commercial strategy

· Work with key people in the broader business to ensure alignment of user experiences across digital properties

· Conduct user research

More specifically, you will:

· Create wireframes and, where needed HTML prototypes for all planned changes

· Consult with Marketing to develop the right landing experience (and other on-site integration) to support key campaigns

· Specify layout, screen wording (other than pure marketing copy), animation and other UI functional behaviour

· Run user testing sessions

· Sit with IT developers and testers to explain requirements, and evolve and elaborate designs as needed

· Test all built deliverables to ensure they meet required standards

· Evaluate your work by consuming web analytics and qualitative feedback data to learn and improve

Key skills and experience

· 4+ years in UX design

· Experience conducting user research sessions – in particular, can define the right methodology for a given research task; can run sessions effectively to generate highly valid data; and can vary between large, formal research and quick tactical validation as circumstances warrant

· Familiarity with tools of the trade (design software, user testing tools)

· You can work agile or waterfall, and/or are keen to learn

· You understand accessibility

· You’re as passionate about the nuts and bolts of ‘dry’ essentials like entering an address as you are about inventing new experiences

· You’re a supremely effective collaborator, who can in particular work with

· other UX designers to create a common vision

· IT architects and developers to ensure your designs are feasible, and change/rethink to work around technical constraints without losing sight of the main aim

· Retail experience great but not essential. More essential is that you’ve worked in an environment where your designs had to achieve a result, whether it’s sales, signups or customer retention. Not mere ‘engagement’ or fun.

· Also important that you’ve worked with complex back-end systems

Other requirements

· You’re passionate about ease and simplicity above all else

· You crave data – qual and quant – as the true measure of your success

· Must provide portfolio demonstrating your best work

· You can write simply, clearly and effectively

· Under constrained conditions, you can improvise – find a way to deliver greatness
