I recently got a WII game console and one of the first things I want to address is the question on “How do I maintain power in my WII remote?“So my research started.

The wii remote is the controller for the wii and just like a remote control, requires power to operate. The power needed for the wii console is different from the power needed for the wii remote. The wii remote is by powered by two (2) AA sized batteries. So this lead me to my problem because if they are powered by batteries and batteries do run out, either I need to get new batteries or stop playing. Not playing is not an option so I did some research on batteries and what batteries would be best for wii remotes?

According to my research, there are many kinds of batteries

• Alkalines – is the most common battery. This is not recommendable for wii remote because when they run out, you have no choice but to dispose of them which Mother Nature won’t like because of it’s toxic stuff.
• NiCd batteries – is the old school rechargable battery. I remember using these when I was still playing gameboy but these are so old that it is not advisable to use them. They also contain bad chemicals which is banned in other countries. They are also prone to the “memory effect” where the lifespan shortens every time you recharge them.
• Ni-MH batteries – is the common rechargable battery. As I read in forums and other websites, people usually suggest that we use these type of batteries for the wii remote.

By simply following the crowd, I limited my selections to choosing only Ni-MH batteries but there were so many brands and chargers out there that it looks overwhelming. But research prevails and here are what I have learned starting with batteries.

When looking for rechargable batteries, I take into consideration the following

• Capacity – usually measure in mAH. The higher, the better and much more expensive. The highest so far I have seen is 2700.
• Brand – People would usually recommend certain brands that works for them. So what I do is take notes while doing some research and do some kind of a tally on the brands they have been recommending. Why go for the untested when you can go for the proven (I think this is on a commercial, was it Olay? )
• Discharge when not in use – This is not actually really a requirement if you are an active wii player (at least daily). But if you want to make sure that the moment you pick up your wii to play days later, you can play without charging first, you need to take this into consideration. Batteries discharge themselves over time and Ni-MH batteries are no exception. There are certain rechargable batteries that tries to minimize this effect (Sanyo Eneloop, Uniross Hybrio)

Through checking, these are the top choices of many …

Sanyo Eneloop

• 2000 mAh (1900 mAh)
• Super minimal discharge – still has 85% power after 1 year of not using
• Around PHP 150-200 each when I checked in Greenhills  [$3 to $4]

Sanyo 2700

• 2700 mAh
• Around PHP 125 – 190 each when I checked in Greenhills [$2.5 to $3.8]

Energizer Rechargables

• Try to get the 2700 mAh one
• Forgot the prize but saw them in Landmark Ayala

Other batteries worth looking at

• Duracell
• Uniross and Uniross Hybrid (Find them in ace hardware)
• GP (Find them in ace hardware)
• CD-R king’s ecomax

Now that you have your rechargable battery, it is time to look for chargers that would give them some juice!

One thing you should know about chargers is that, some are dumb and some are smart. So what’s the difference?

Dumb chargers simply charge the hell out of your battery regardless if it is full or not. They are not capable of doing anything but charge batteries. Imagine water flowing from the faucet filling up a pail of water. You have to manually turn it off when it is full and you should be blind and deaf in which you can only guess when it is full or not. On the other hand, smart chargers are chargers that has more functions. They are able to detect if a battery is full and would stop charging them.

So we would obviously need some smart chargers and not dumb ones. (the first charger I bought was a dumb charger and that was when I did not do research but just bought impulsively). Features to look for in a smart charger.

• Slots – how many batteries can you charge at a time? Also make sure that the slots work individually, avoid those chargers that need pairs to charge
• Speed in charging – Normal charging of a 2100 mAh battery takes around 14 hours (stated in manual), but some can charge them faster. Some even claims to charge them in 15 minutes. Look for a charger that is not too fast (1 hour or so) but not too long (more than 10 hours).
• LED – the light is on when charging, it is off when it doesn’t
• Discharge feature (optional) – This enables you to do a reset of your battery by draining it to 0 then recharging it to full. Gets rid of memory effect.
• Trickle effect – maintains battery in full as long as the charger is on
• “I’m already full” detection – this is what makes chargers smart!

How to test if a charger is smart?

Charge a battery to full then take a poop. Try to charge it again and see if the LED in the charging lits up. If it does, it is not smart. If it doesn’t, either you have a defective LED or it is smart!

Today, someone emailed me that she likes my blog and would like to donate to my blog…

She asked for my paypal account (which unfortunately I gave … ) then she emailed me that she is having problems sending money to my paypal account and she sent a screenshot. When I clicked the linked, I got a page asking me to log-in to google.

I was like.. why do I need to log-in to Google because I’m already logged in due to using GMAIL. When I check other google sites, I could simply click “take me to my account” and I’m already logged in. So there I was suspicious.

The website looks like Picasa Web but first thing I noticed is the URL. It doesn’t say anything about Picasaweb. I also did some checking on what the real website is and I was able to go in without logging in.

In summary, here is what I noticed that is wrong and you can use these as checks to know if you are being phished or not

• The URL is suspicious
• The link in the email and the website it went isn’t the same
• The original website doesn’t look like that or doesn’t have those features
• It sounded too good to be true

So I replied to that email and then reported it to Google as a phishing email. Too bad I didn’t get the email address which I can give a warning of her yahoo account.

Beware of this website!!! It tries to copy Picasaweb.google.com.

Anyway, be careful . Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it isn’t

Before you input your log-in info, double check and possibly triple the website.

I have a daily schedule of bowel movement. Yet today, something is wrong…

Notice: I’ll try to be graphic here so if you don’t like to imagine some poop talk, don’t read any further.

It started this morning when I finished my daily schedule. I had oatmeal, milkfish and hamburger bun w/ chizwiz parmesan for breakfast. I believe I had two trips to the restroom with normal poop.

For lunch, I ate at Racks and I ate a 1/2 beef rack with about 2 and 1/2 glasses of their ice tea. After that filling meal,  started going around the mall.. and there I felt an urge to go the bathroom.

As I sat on my throne, I did a small huff and mini poop came out. I waited a while, grew impatient and cleaned myself. Then, there was also a Quickly Choco Loco Super.

For dinner, I had beefsteak tagalog (complained because it had sugar) and drank Bear Brand version of Yakult. And there, my night of huffing and puffing started.

I could no longer count how many times have I gone to the restroom since I finished dinner. All those trips were just short because I would simply, sit, do some puffs and get frustrated at what is going out of my body. I can see some solids there but it doesn’t look normal. If it was big and more solid, then I would call it normal but what I see are nugget sized poop which sometimes there are smaller, perhaps malteaser size. What’s worse is that, my butt is already crying in pain due to the friction (lol) caused by these frequent withdrawals. It feels like I have an open wound somewhere or somebody slapped my butt that the pain lingers.

Now I’m seriously afraid to poo now because of the pain. I might have bruises in my butt and that would take a while to heal (think of all the bacteria it gets to interact everytime you poo). It hurts when you push those malteasers out and it hurts to see that all those pain just resulted into malteasers.

I did some research!

• If I poo too much, I read that I might get roids or hemorrhoids, (bleeding from within) and I certainly don’t want that.
• I may have irritable bowel syndrome ? I don’t understand it but I am irritated by this frequent bowel movement
• I need to beef up my fiber and water intake (I’ll have oatmeal and banana for breakfast tomorrow)
• I drink water and gatorade after I poo to prevent dehydration
• I really need to go see a doctor

My theory now is that this happens when I drink pro-biotics after dinner. This is the second time it happened as I felt is also last week after drinking Yakult after dinner. Same trips, same view, same effort.

Ghost stories, haunted places and scary stuff usually pops out on Halloween because.. people are used to it.

Last night, I was watching the special Halloween episode of MMK where they feature someone who’s sister got possessed by a bad spirit. The story was Ok but some of the parts were exaggerated (moving of things, floating? hanging on the ceiling?). Are those possible even if you are possessed?

So anyway, if you want some spooky stuff, try watching the live feed of Ghost Hunters where they attempt to go in Essex Country Hospital and try to hunt ghosts where people have been terrified before. Will we really be able to see ghosts live on camera … especially on streaming? We won’t know unless we try so let’s go.

How to avoid Leptospirosis

• If you can avoid it, do not walk in flooded areas.

Ondoy was a typhoon that they thought was weak. However, Ondoy was only weak in terms of wind strength but it carried with him loads of rainwater which flooded Luzon especially Marikina, Taguig, Rizal and other places.

With the damage caused by Pepeng, people panicked once again when it was declared that another typhoon, Pepeng is coming in 6 days after Ondoy. With Pepeng’s wind strength, they classified it as a super typhoon and people were in a state of panic (panic buying, panic evacuation, panic relocation).

However, here in the metro (Manila), for Pepeng, we had a few drizzles here and there, sometimes it would rain hard for like five minutes then nothing else. It was pretty cloudy. After all those preparations we did, I felt that the announcement of Pepeng for Manila etc was over hyped. I’m not saying it was overhyped for other places because Pepeng was destroying houses, uprooting trees and doing some bad-ass damage in the places it landed, but for Manila, it was just a simple rain here, rain there.

Good news! Since Pepeng was hardly felt in Manila, people can go back to relief operations to save the victims of Ondoy. Ah yes, if you want to know more of the relief operations, see the link.

Help Ondoy Victims

I’m really hoping that as Filipinos, we will learn something new on Ondoy and Pepeng.

1. Stop fingerpointing – This is usually the first thing that happens when something bad happens. People would like to know who can they pinpoint the blame too and then precious newspaper space is wasted for days due to the fingerpointing. Our politicians are very good at this because they can involve the media, deliver priviledge speeches and other one liners to put the blame on somebody.
2. Global Warming – Baah this one again. For every typhoon, tsunami, earthquake, rising water, they blame it on (see point one) on Global Warming. Who causes Global Warming? Humans! So, who can we blame overall? Humans. Global warming.. pffft….
3. Garbage everywhere – I’m sure this is a more better reason for the floods rather than say it’s global warming. Look around you and look at the flood. The things you see floating aside from people and furnitures are trash that the same people throw around just anywhere. Don’t they know what a trashcan looks like. A lot of Filipino’s simply throw their trash just anywhere thinking that it is a big trash can. What happens when it rains? It all goes back to them big time.

The culprit was named Michael David Barett. He was arrested just today, October 3, 2009 for peeping on Erin Andrews in her hotel room. We can now say, justice is served for Erin Andrews.

Now, that is some fast investigation. It just shows that if you want to get to the bottom of something, you will do everything to solve the case. Now, I wonder if the same thing will happen to the source of Hayden Kho scandals that surfaced last May 2009? I think the citizens of the Philippines have already forgotten about it and it is now just a part of history of unsolved cases. We are good at that.

May Erin Andrews sleep in her bed in a much better way knowing that the one who did this to her has been arrested.
