The toxins on their long, dangly tentacles can be so perilous that surviving the excruciating effects of a bad sting is considered a medical miracle. The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of .999 pure silver in proof quality, the coins reverse depicts the Box Jellyfish against a coloured background of coral reef and tropical fish. No more than 5,000 of these coins will be released, each of these coins is issued with its own numbered Certificate of Authenticity. Each coin is housed in a high gloss timber presentation case and shipper emblazoned with the warning DANGER. Box Jellfish is the sixth release in the highly successful Deadly & Dangerous series of coloured silver proof coins, other releases include the highly sort after Redback Spider, Great White Shark and the Eastern Brown Snake. This Silver Maple Leaf has an extremely low mintage, highlighted in pure gold and marks the 20th anniversary of the Silver Maple Leaf series of bullion coins. The coin features the Canadian specimen finish, which is a three fold combination of different finishes, the design raised area or relief includes both brilliant and mirrored surfaces, while the fields are subtly striated resulting in a contrasting matte appearance of the coin, no other mint in the world employs the specimen finish.

The coin features a brand new naturalistic single maple leaf design and the dual dates of 1988-2008 commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Silver Maple Leaf, the reverse portrait of Queen Elizabeth II is exactly the same one as on the very first Silver Maple Leaf issued in 1988. And a maple leaf that is selectively plated in pure 24 karat gold and the RCM specimen finish, this coin comes in its own clam case and with individually numbered certificate. A total of only 10,000 of these wonderful coins where minted making them a must for any collector.

Weight..............31.39 Grams
Diameter...........38 mm
Edge..................Reeded
Purity................9999 Silver
Finish................Specimen With Gilded Maple Leaf
Face Value.........$5
Year..................2008

More on the 20th Annivesary Gilded Silver Maple Leaf

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 155px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-djHTMEHU2jA/TXAM7WyfZgI/AAAAAAAAADo/tSkRq76uGB8/s200/2008gildedmaplecase.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5579974152181212674" />

This is the first coin in the Extinct & Endangered Series and could be as popular as the Deadly & Dangerous series of coins. The coins reverse depicts the Tasmanian tiger and cub set against its natural habitat, the tiger and cub are featured in stunning colour and are authentic depictions of this noble beast. With a large wolf like head and tiger like striped coat and wombat like backwards facing pouch, the Thylacinus cynocephalus (Tasmanian Tiger) is among the most intriguing of Australias animals. Rivalling in reputation such wonders of nature as the platypus, kangaroo and koala, this unusual creature virtually disappeared from the Australian mainland around 2,000 to 3,000 years ago. At the time of European Settlement, it was found in significant numbers only in Tasmania. Hunting, disease and habitat destruction all had a major impact on the Tassie Tiger population, and the last known thylacine died in the Hobart Zoo in 1936.

Set within a stunning maple inset lacquered case within a colourful outer box shipper and accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

http://www.silvercoinnews.com/tasmaniantiger.html

What makes this particular silver coin so rare is that it is the finest known 1794 dollar and several experts believe this could be the first silver dollar ever struck by the United States Mint. Steven L. Contursi, who has owned the 1794 Silver Liberty dollar for the past seven years confirmed thursday he has sold it to the Cardinal Collection Educational Foundation of Sunnyvale for $7.85 million. The Flowing Hair silver dollar takes its name from lady liberty's flowing locks shown on the obverse of the coin, the reverse shows the words the United States of America with an olive tree and an eagle. The specimen is unique both for the quality of its imprint and the fine silver it was struck from, the pristine condition of the silver dollar coin has led experts to surmise that is has had plenty of special handling in the years since it was minted. The previous record price paid for a coin was $7.5 million for a U.S. minted 1933 $20 gold piece according to the American Numismatic Association.
http://www.silvercoinnews.com/silverdollar.html
