Things have been very busy over here, so I’m going to postpone this weeks tea post until Thursday.

We’ve had my father-in-law’s services and estate to sort out and that’s going to continue through beyond Wednesday but at least after then things will ease up pace wise.

Tea: Peaceful Dreams

I’m going to be featuring a different one of our herbal blends over the next few weeks. I did a quick poll on twitter and @theminxiekitten requested this and Zen tea, so Zen will be next weeks’ feature.

Peaceful Dreams tea: A blend of organic and pan-fired green tea with lavender and peppermint.

While the pan-fired green tea can some times be ever so slightly bitter that edge is removed when paired with lavender and peppermint, both of which are great herbs for relaxing.

I’ve long associated lavender with being a very soothing scent. My grandmother would keep lavender soap in the airing cupboard to help the house, and a lot of the drawers in the house had lavender sachets in them, you could just pick one out and breathe it in deeply and go, “Ahhhhhh!” marvelous.

As I said both lavender and peppermint are known to help you relax, they also promote restful sleep and inner calm which is why we combined them together.

In addition peppermint can help with stomach problems including flatulence and can ease indigestion while helping to boost your emotional state to the more positive side. Lavender is also good for indigestion, but can also help with anxiety, tension headaches and irritability.

Green tea is low in caffeine. If you had a straight cup of the green tea we have mixed with the other herbs it would have less than a quarter of the caffeine of your average cup of coffee. Given the green tea only makes up a small portion of the blend here this tea is a great way to wind down at the end of the day and ease into the night.

As we’re also a bit on the witchy side of things here we also blend or teas with thoughts towards their use in rituals by some of our patrons. The two herbs have their mystical properties as well.

Lavender is well used in not only cleansing rituals but those to do with clairvoyance and divination, especially through dreams. Peppermint is touted for use in psychic development rituals, blessings of good luck, protection and success.

Preparation Notes

When preparing a green tea we recommend that you let boiling water cool for between 3 and 5 minutes before pouring into your pot or cup to steep so that the tea leaves don’t scald, given this tea has floral elements I usually pull the water from the heat just before it starts to boil all the way right when you hear the “chuckling” start and then let it sit.

To those of you who participated in the One Card Draw on Saturday. I’m getting to those of you now who I hadn’t been able to draw for at that time.

My additional apologies for leaving so suddenly. Some of you know that my father-in-law was terminally ill. Upon his release from hospital a few weeks ago we’d been told that he had around three months to live. However, he left us on Saturday morning, so I left as soon as I found out so that I could be with my husband and the rest of the local family.

I will do a drawing among Saturday’s participants for a free Celtic Cross reading. This will occur on the 23rd to give some leeway after the funeral service and all of the other arrangements we have to go through.

One Card Draw

How this works: As soon as I post on facebook, and twitter etc. you can request a reading either here or on, livejournal/dreamwidth or the facebook status or by contacting me through email. Anyone who has posted during the time of the draw gets a reading. You can request one per person.

The draw will run 4 hours. When the draw ends that will also be announced and comments will be disabled on here, livejournal and dreamwidth. At that time drawings will be done for free readings depending on the amount of donations which have been retrieved.

Frequently Asked Questions

What info do you need from me?
When you request a reading we ask for your date of birth or star sign whichever you feel more comfortable sharing. This we can focus on along with your question to help us tune while we shuffle and deal the cards.
An area of life you’d like to have illuminated such as whatever the cards think is important, money or relationship. Alternately you can ask a question such as ‘Will I have a job in the next few months?’ ‘Is everything copacetic in my marriage?’
Lastly where you want the reading sent. So, FB message, email. If you request via email either post your email address alternately if you don’t want your email address posted email: cat@thesilverpath.net with the subject: One Card Draw.

Which decks do you use?
Today I’ll be using Minetti’s Manga Tarot and The Shadowscapes Tarot for the draw.

So long as you post within the times specified your reading will be sent to you. Often we get a flood of comments initially so it can take us some time to catch up and at times we have to take a break to realign our energy or cleanse cards if information is getting too muddled. If you do not receive your reading by the following day please let us know sometimes FB hiccups and comments get lost.

Saturday One Card Draw

Tomorrow, Saturday 11th February, I’ll be doing a One Card Draw in honor of Valentine’s Day. It begins at 9 a.m. EST and will run for, I was saying three, but I’ll say four hours, to give our West Coast friends, hopefully, a better chance.

For those who’ve never participated in a One Card Draw before, this means that you request from me giving me your birthdate, or star sign whichever you’re more comfortable and point me in a direction you might like “work”, “money”, or given this is Valentine’s Day, “what’s going on in my significant other’s head?” might be a question you’d have.

Then I draw a card and give you the explanation the universe feels most useful based on what that card says. Ideally then you think I’m wonderful and want to keep me on to do readings for you in the future but the universe gives what the universe gives.

Because I do this for you and take time and energy from my day it would be wonderful if you would tip me afterwards, much appreciated and because tips make me happy, because I can then pay my bills, I offer prizes when I get lots of tips.

I was hoping to be working on the Tarot Card of the Week videos and have something posted yesterday. However, a member of our family, who has been very sick has taken a turn for the worse and so my husband and I have been spending much of the past week and will continue throughout the next–I’m not sure how long–to be making arrangements, and having meetings with various people and helping out.

Once I actually have the opportunity to sit down and record a video, only then, will I make mention of posting it.

Thank you very much to everyone who consulted with me for readings this past week. I was able to raise $102 which has paid off the E.R. bill and there’s a payment pending with the rest for the psych bill. This should put me under $400 owed. I’ll have to see once the receipt comes in.

My next bill payment on the psych bill should ideally be given next Tuesday and D doesn’t get paid ’til Friday and we also owe $50 to cover an E.R. visit which I should have paid last week but I needed to save money for medications which run out today. Fun times.

How Do You Even Read by Email?

There are a lot of hurdles to jump when it comes to tarot reading. First there’s the fact that it involves tarot cards and if you’ve not grown up around them or had a reading with them before they can be kinda freaky. It’s not devil worship, it’s not hokum, it’s weird, sure, but they’re just a tool that Kore and I use to help us tune into the forces we need to so that we can advise you better about what’s going on with your life now or what will be coming up for you in the days, weeks or months ahead.

So, okay, you’ve got over that part but then you’re expected to believe that we can do all this for you without you even being here. It may be hard to believe but I get it. I do. I spent several years trying and testing whether or not I really could tune into people and see what they needed to be told without them sitting across from me sharing energy with me and with the cards.

I’ve always been one to experiment and prove. I tested myself sending and receiving with Xener Cards when I was still in high school, and I did the same when it came to reading cards; joining groups called “Tarot Trade” where I could practice reading for other readers in the same boat, and in the end, just putting myself out there and reading for people in other areas. It wasn’t until I read for a gentlemen late one evening and was praised by him and then found out he was in Ireland that I really felt comfortable saying that I was capable of reading online. Since then it’s been tried, tested and proven over and over again.

Still, you may be asking yourself, what happens when you sign up for this reading. For one, I’m not going to ply you for information. You click on the link in the shopping cart and you tell me what you want me to know. The only thing I ask you to share is this your name, gender preference and starsign or date of birth. This is for two reasons, one so we can address you appropriately and a bit more personably than “dear sir or madam or persons neutral”, and two it does help us tune, by which I mean it’s something we can hold on to and repeat to ourselves as we shuffle the cards and prepare for your reading.

In the run-downs of the type of readings we offer it does say that we’d like an “area of focus” this can be as brief or wordy as you’d like. Some people just write “job” or “love life” and that’s fine, others give us a run-down of their last week and ask for a projection forward both of these are fine and entirely up to you. You can even leave that part out all together and then the reading will focus on whatever the universe/cards feel is the most pertinent to your needs and we’ll go from there.

The next stage is the bit you don’t see. Kore and I both shuffle and deal very differently. She deals from the top down whereas I run my hand along the spread out deck and pull out which cards feel “hot” to me and read from there. We both read reversals (which I’ll talk more about in a different post). We both draw clarifying cards here and there but I will tend to draw clarifiers for court cards any time I draw them though I don’t count those against the number of cards drawn. If you ask for a three card reading and I draw the King of Swords, then the Two of Cups to help me sort out if the King is being a person on situation. I will still draw another two cards not just one. The clarifier is on me, not you.

After the cards are drawn comes the interpreting and note-taking and then the wheedling everything down so that it can be shared with you in a way that makes sense and isn’t just “King–oooh, annoying person, work, trouble, frustration, grr, argh!” along with picture taking and then email compiling and sending. Which is hopefully then met with understanding and appreciation.

Neither of us likes ending things on a sour note, if the outcome of the reading seems overly stressful, frustrating or nasty we’ll pull a few more cards so that we can help get things to a more positive spot for you. Nobody wants to end on a downer. We want you to be happy, or have tools at your disposal to get you to that better place. The reading is about you and what you need, not about us and what we want to share.

Always, always if something doesn’t quite make sense to you in your reading get back with us and we’ll help you with it. Occasionally we’re not as clear as we think we are.
