Near.me – Foursquare + Bing + Silverlight mashup

Near.me is a Foursquare browser from Metia. It’s a nice clean implementation of Bing Maps withsome great finishing details. It’s a bummer you can’t use it to check-in using it though. Maybe they could wrap in Geosense for windows?

Tip: I couldn’t login with my Foursquare username and had to use my email address.

Paul Yanez – Silverlight Tutorial Blog

Paul Yanez is building a nice collection of simple Silverlight Tutorials. The thing I like about this list is that the tutorials are short and sweet, covering some basic principles that any designer can pick up quickly and expand upon.

When you first visit Flickerlight it’s fairly unassuming. You’re presented with a slide show of a Flicker stream, some simple controls and nice 3D transitions.

You don’t see the beauty of the app until you conduct a search. For these screenshots I searched for the user aussiegall.

The results come back as neat piles of photos that give a little wiggle inviting you to dive deeper. Once inside a collection there are multiple ways to view the photos with clean simple controls.

This profile slide out panel is also a really nice touch.

The Beatles Rockband for Xbox 360 Official Website

The Beatles Rockband for Xbox 360 Official Website is an excellent example of what can be done in Silverlight for the consumer market. The attention to detail is top-notch, as you’d expect from a video game’s official website.

There are some nice details here. The preloader with tips on how to navigate, the mouse pointer when you hover over active areas and the cut scenes are all great.

Excellent audio work

By far my favorite thing about this site is the audio work. The fading in and out of different tracks as you pan around, and the crossover from left to right of the screaming fans. It’s those little details like that go a long way in completing the experience.

Victoria’s Secret All Access

Wow. I know I just said this about an earlier post. But the Victoria’s Secret All Access micro-site might have the best fit and finish of any Silverlight site I’ve seen. The transitions are beautiful and all the little details are well thought out.

Mosaic 23/25 – DeepZoom made up of thousands of fan photos

Love your Air Jordans? These people do. Mosaic 23/25 was an interactive exhibit created for the 25th Anniversary celebration at the 23/25 Space in Dallas during the 2010 NBA All-Star Weekend. The collection was made up of thousands of fan photos and is now available online.

Bing Twitter Maps – One of many custom visualizations in My Bing Maps

Bing maps now gives you the ability to create a custom Twitter map and embed it onto your website. Visit Bing Maps Explore and click My Maps in the lower right of the tool panel.

One nice little detail is this awesome transition when you open the Mini Map. Subtle, but so cool with the rapid ease out and little zoom. I couldn’t stop clicking it.

Twitter Maps is just one of many areas to explore in the My Maps area of Bing Maps Silverlight.

VisualFusion brings the heat with Bing maps and Silverlight

Collision Watch is a beautiful visualization of a gruesome topic, traffic fatalities in the US for the year 2007.

There are some nice implementation details here including clustering of nearby points.

The navigation controls are well laid out and come into full view on mouse over.

The tools panel slides down from the top revealing option toggles with intuitive iconography.

This application is one of three demos built on Visual Fusion.
