Mafia Wars is one of the best and most popular multiplayer browser games around right now. It recently won the Webby 2009 Peoples Voice Award.
Very cool.

Mafia Wars is exactly what it sounds like - A game based around a mythical mafia war based in New York City and Little Italy. How popular is it? Well according to Wikipedia on Facebook alone there are currently 25.9 million monthly active accounts.

Now that's a loyal base. Mafia Wars is part of the newest gaming trend - Social Network Games. These are the games that can be played only through a social network site such as Facebook or MySpace. Currently the game is available for the biggest social network sites. The reason the game is so popular is fairly obvious, it's just darn fun.

From starting out as a grunt that has to use ruthless tactics to build an empire, to becoming a Godfather (if you can get that far) and trying to maintain your empire while being attacked from all sides. The game is played with and against friend in your Facebook (and other sites) profile. It's social interaction at its best. One thing about the game though is that it can be frustrating because it is not an easy game to play. Many, like myself, wanted an option that would allow me save some time and lessen the painful learning curve, because of that I ended getting a Mafia Wars strategy guide.

There are a ton of Mafia Wars guides out there so doing some research is going to be necessary before you decide which one to get. Here is a quick synopsis of two of them that I reviewed for my site:

Dominate Mafia Wars by Jenson Fuller is the most popular of the available guides out right now. Jenson refers to himself as the "original Godfather." He has played the game for over 2 years and has managed to accumulate quite an arsenal of legal tactics that will help players to accelerate their progress quite a bit. On his site he has a video showing his account. I can't deny that his stats are incredible. Obviously Jenson's put the time in to learn and master the game. He refers to his method as "legally cheating," lol. By that he means he doesn't do anything illegal to pump his stats.

Mafia Wars BluePrint by Tony Sanders is the newest of the Mafia Wars guides. This one had a bit of hype before it came out, I was a bit skeptical but it is actually a very good guide. The guide is comprehensive and is easy to follow even on some of the harder stuff such as recruiting a massive mafia. One section that I really liked focused on how to get the rarest weapons and tools in the game. If you want proof of his stats then you should visit his homepage and check out the video there, it's got all the proof you'll need.

Mafia Wars provides a wonderful social platform to play against your friends. Sometimes though, the game is unforgiving and that's when a good guide comes in handy. There aren't any sites that I could find that put all the guides in one place, that's why I create a website that has them all listed. Here are some simple tips on how you can choose the best Mastermind, Wheelman, Button Man, Bodyguard, Safecracker and Bagman among your friends easily in Mafia Wars

Mastermind – Choose a member with many jobs completed to promote to Mastermind to get more experience points from doing jobs. Your Mastermind gains a small chance of gaining 50% more experience when performing jobs.

Wheelman – Choose a member with the Fearless character type and a high level to promote to Wheelman to get a reduced energy cost for jobs. Your Wheelman gains a small chance to perform jobs for no energy.

Button Man – Choose a member with the Maniac character type and a high level to promote to Button Man to get an Attack bonus. Your Button Man gains a small chance to always win fights they initiate.

Bodyguard – Choose a member with many fights won to promote to Bodyguard to get a Defense bonus. Your Bodyguard gains a small chance to always win fights when they are attacked.

Safecracker – Choose a member with many successful heists to promote to Safecracker to get more money from fighting and robbing. Your Safecracker gains a small chance to gain double the money when fighting or robbing.

Bagman – Choose a member with the Mogul character type and a high level to promote to Bagman to get more money from jobs. Your Bagman gains a small chance to gain double the money when performing jobs.

Best Strategy to choose the right character when you start playing Mafia Wars

Well, we've been playing Mafia Wars for months together now and have completed so many jobs and achievements that we could personally pen down this rather very simple and easy to understand guide.

What we have come to realize is that the "Character" that you choose initially when you start off with the games does play a very large role in changing the dynamics of the game play for you. The character that you choose should allow you to gain energy/stamina/health as soon as possible. But that's what everyone wants - so you can have only one of them. Once you pick your Character type, you CANNOT change it anytime again in the game.

The three type of characters that you have in Mafia Wars is
Maniac - one who can energy regenerated at a very fast rate
Mogul - one who gains more money from properties
Fearless - one who attains health at a higher rate

This is how a Maniac timer works
Energy: 1 every 3 min (instead of the usual 5 mins).
Health: 1 every 3 min.
Money: Collect every 60 min.
Stamina: 1 every 5 min.

Mogul's timers are as follows:
Energy: 1 every 5 min.
Health: 1 every 3 min.
Money: Collect every 54 min instead of 60 min.
Stamina: 1 every 5 min.

Finally Fearless's timer is as follows:
Energy: 1 every 5 min.
Health: 1 every 2 min instead of 3 min.
Money: Collect once every 60 min.
Stamina: 1 every 5 min.

Character selection is definitely where most of us start the trouble by choosing a wrong one. Most of us feel that Maniac is the correct character to choose. But that is definitely a wrong choice. Though a Maniac can regenerate energy at almost 40% higher rate than any other character, but still he is not the best choice.

The best character we feel for you to choose would be the Fearless. why Fearless you may ask? But it is a character that can regenerate health much quicker than anyone else. In order to raise up the levels quickly, you will need to plan to never use more of your energy. The Fearless character is the only one that can be promoted to "Wheelman" status when in the top mafia section. If you happen to be someone else's "Wheelman" then there is a chance sometimes that you will be able finish your job at no energy cost(but you still get the experiences!). Now that's very cool and only Fearless character can be promoted to Wheelman!!

So, we suggest you to choose your character as "Fearless" in Mafia Wars!!
