Marian Lucille Like, 91 of Terre Haute was released from this world on May 16, 2012.  She had been a resident at Davis Gardens Health Care Facility since the summer of 2011 and previously had been at Cobblestone Crossings for several years.  She had suffered from vascular dementia since 2006 , but had been able to stay in her home in Indianapolis until 2009.  Marian was born in Vincennes on May 2, 1921 the daughter of J.O. and Mamie (Ray) Sumner who preceded her in death.  She was also preceded in death by her step-mother, Lena Sumner, brothers Max and Jack Sumner and sister Helen Thompson.

Marian was married to George Harold Like for 47 years, he passed away from heart disease and diabetes in 1986.  She grew ip in Vincennes, IN moving to Terre Haute in the 1940′s.  Terre Haute remained her home before moving to Indianapolis in 1968 due to a job transfer.  In Terre Haute she worked at the ISU bookstore making many long lasting friends with coworkers and students.  After moving to Indianapolis, she managed the gift shop at IU Hospital and after retirement she volunteered for over 35 years at Riley Children’s Hospital.  She attended Breden Memorial Methodist Church in Terre Haute, where she was a Sunday school teacher and also at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Indianapolis.  She opened her home through the years to anyone who needed a place to stay sometimes for a few years, or just overnight for many people needing to catch a early plane out of Indy.  Her house and hospitality were always welcoming.  She loved to cook, Bank and was an avid reader and usually took fresh baked cookies to the library on germany visits.  She had wonderful neighbors who continued to look out for her when she lived on her own.

She led a very active life while she could, traveling to many places within the U.S, Mexico and the Canary Islands.  She enjoyed crusing with her last cruise to Alaska.  She enjoyed many long-lasting friendships from Terre Haute and Indianapolis.  Marian belonged to a lunch bunch made up of fellow volunteers, card clubs, loved going out to eat and endured many long shopping trips with her daughter and granddaughters.  She was very fortunate to be able to see most of her great-grandchildren grow into school age with the three youngest visiting her often while at Cobblestone. They would always bring a smile to her face as well as the other residents.

To cherish her memory she leaves behind her children, Michael Steven Like of Indianapolis and Nikki (Tom) Seal of Terre Haute, grandchildren, Christopher Wrin, Melissa (Jim) Swan and Melinda Wrin all of Terre Haute. step-grandchildren Connie Wrin and Cathy Brown as well as 13 Grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren.

Honoring her request, a cremation will be performed and no funeral services will be held.

Benjamin (Balancing Benny) Persinger 62, of Coal City died April 28, 2012  Ben was born December 15, 1949 in Columbus, Indiana the son of  George and Ethyl (Sims) Persinger. Ben was a jack of all trades and master of none. Benjamin was United States Veteran.    Preceded in death by his parents and son David Hoagland. Samuel L. Benson 82, of Clinton died April 26 at Union Hospital-Terre Haute.  Samuel was born September 25, 1929 in Levan, Utah the son of George R. and Rebecca J (Baysinger) Benson.  Mr. Benson was retired from J. I. Case 1997 as Mechanical Engineer and later worked for Allison Engines in Indianapolis. Samuel also proudly served in the Air Force during World War II. Sam also worked for Allis-Chambers in Terre Haute and and the Daisy BB Gun Company in Rogers, Arkansas.  Mr. Benson was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles Benson and sister Georgia Syvertsen.  Samuel is survived by his wife Martha Jean (Bledsoe) Benson whom he married on May 1, 1952, sons Michael L. Benson of Indianapolis and Mark L. (Yolanda) Benson of Greenville, SC, granddaughter Jessica Benson.  Also surviving sisters, Betty (Jerel) Boyle, Francis (Tom) Bishop all of Clinton, Doris Bolton of Terre Haute and Maryalice (Mike) Tracey of Sparland, Illinois. Rethel Marie Bugg, 75 of Hillsdale died thursday, April 26 at her residence. Mrs. Bugg was born in Kentucky on May 29, 1936 the daughter of James and Ella (Owens) Tibby.  Rethel was a long time nurses aide at Vermillion  Convalescent Center.  She was preceded in death by her son, Bill Bruce.  Survivors include her children; Michael, Rick, Gary, Carol Kieth Bruce, Patsy Doan, Jenny Adair, Mark, Joe, Scott Bruce, Heidi Estes and Jon Bruce. 26 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Billy J. “Joe” Stites, 67 of Mecca, died April 18, 2012 at Union Hospital-Clinton. Joe was born March 13, 1945 the son of William and Catherine (Myers) Stites.  Mr. Stites was a retired truck driver with the Parke County Highway Department.  Joe was preceed in death by his parents, son Billy J. Stites Jr., Brother Ross Stites and granddaughter Destiny Stites.  He is survived by his wife Brenda L. (Falls) Stites, Children; Dee (Dave) Baker of Mecca, Cathy Stites of Kingman, Linda McFerron of Heratige Lake, Dewayne (Danielle) Stites of North Dakota, Marty (Julie) of Michigan and Brian (Rachelle) Henderson of Montezuma, Sisters, Betty Gower, Linda Ractliff, Vicki Jackson; Brothers Glenn, Larry and Don Stites, 17 Grandchildren.  A celebration of life will be held, Saturday April 21 at 3:00 PM at the Simple Cremations and Burials Celebration of Life Center, 459 North 9th Street with Rev Clarabelle Jukes officiating.  Family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until time of service.

Shelly Cox, 44 of Clinton went home to see the face of Jesus on April 15, 2012.  Shelly was born November 1, 1967 the daughter of John and Vicki (Anderson) Wilds.  Shelly was the Manager of the former P & T Video in Clinton.  She was married to Joshua Cox on August 8, 2008 and he survives.  In addition to her husband and parents, other survivors include her children, Brittany Hollister  and Chris Buck, Grandchildren Elijah, Jayden and Camden.  Brother and sister-in-law John and Angie Wilds all of Clinton; Grandmothers Mary Anderson of Mattoon, IL and Edna Judy of Clinton.  A celebration of life will be held Saturday 2:00: PM at the The Church of the Nazarene (5th and Vine Sts, in Clinton).

Linda Lou (Jones) Lewis, 67, of Ridge Farm, IL, passed away on April 5, 2012 in Pleasant Meadows Christian Village in Chrisman, IL, after an extended illness.

Born September 25, 1944 in Benton Harbor, MI, she was the second daughter of Casey and Bessie (Shaw) Jones.  She married Gerald (Dean) Lewis on August 4, 1951.  He preceded her in death on March 21, 2012.

Linda was a homemaker.  She enjoyed playing bingo and scratch-off lottery tickets, baking pies, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends, but especially her grandsons.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Gary; and a special cousin, Delores Keller.

Linda leaves behind her three children:  Jerry W Lewis, of Ridge Farm, IL; Tina M. (Russell) Tapscott, of Ridge Farm, IL; and Ricky S. (Misty) Lewis, of Chrisman, IL; five grandsons:  Cody and Jacob Lewis, both of Chrisman, IL; and Curtis, Brandon, and Nathan Tapscott, all of Ridge Farm, IL; three sisters:  Lilly M (Bud) McMasters, of Farmer City, IL; Patty A. Bush, of Newport, IN; and Janet R. (Mike) Phillips, of Montezuma, IN; special niece, Mona Brown, of IN; special cousins, Roger Shaw and Teri Jo Keller, both of Montezuma; and Shirley Allison, of Ohio; several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

David R. Lewis, 57 of Hillsdale died April 4, 2012. Mr. Lewis was born January 7, 1955 the son of Orlando and Naomi (Ferrand) Lewis.  David was a retired HVAC Technician and was a United States Army Veteran.  He was preceded in death by his father.  Survivors include his wife of 30 years,  Deborah J. Charles R. “Chuck” Crabb Jr. 33,  of Terre Haute went home to be with the Lord on March 30, 2012.  Chuck was born March 29, 1979 the son of Charles R. “Dick” Crabb and Susan Kennedy.  Chuck was a United Stated Army Veteran and a full time student.  Survivors include his wife, Rachael L. (Ross) Crabb ; Parents Charles R. “Dick” Crabb of West Terre Haute, mother Susan Kennedy of Rosedale, Children Chase R. Crabb, Charles R. Crabb III, Ashlyn G. Crabb and Madison N. Bagley,   brother, Timothy Joseph “TJ” Crabb of Rosedale, Brother in Law and Sister in Law William and Jessica Ross of Terre Haute and Maternal grandparents Jean and Richard “Dick” Sr. Kennedy of Rosedale.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday 10:00: AM at the North Terre Haute Christan Church 3131 Park Avenue, with Rev. Ron Hatley officiating. Burial will take place at Highland Lawn.
