Simple Pleasures Debut in the Miss Universe Pageant 2012

TADA!!!!!! Simple Pleasures made its way to the Miss Universe Pageant this year! Every contestant sported a comfortably sassy Simple Pleasures robe throughout the course of the pageant! Between shoots, in the make up chair, taking a breather.... the contestants were comfortably enveloped in their own Simple Pleasures Robe!

Tina and Gary enjoyed their time at the Miss Universe Pageant! It was such a show!

Tina and her husband Gary had the opportunity to go to the pageant themselves and had a wonderful time getting to meet each contestant... and others such as Donald Trump himself!

We were delighted to be a part of the show and thrilled that we are seen now all around the world!

I know you are wondering exactly what is it that is so special about Supima cotton besides the fact that you can tell by wearing it that it is comfortable and lasting. Well, this info provided by supima.com should answer some of your wonderings....

What does Supima mean?

The name "Supima®" is a licensed trademark owned by Supima and its members. It is used to promote textile and apparel products made of 100% American Pima cotton, and is strictly controlled by the grower organization. The name "Supima" is an abbreviation for Superior Pima.

What is Pima cotton?

Pima cotton is a generic name for extra-long staple (ELS) cotton grown in the U.S., Australia, Peru and in very limited production in a few other locations around the world. Pima is from the gossypium barbadense species, compared to gossypium hirsutum, to which upland cotton belongs. The primary differences between Pima (ELS growths) cotton and upland cotton are staple length, strength of the fiber and fineness of the fiber. In the U.S., cotton is considered to be ELS or American Pima if it is an inch and 3/8 or longer. Its strength and uniformity measurements are considerably higher than those of upland cotton.

What is the difference between Pima and Supima?

The name "Pima" is the generic term generally applied to ELS cotton grown in the U.S., Peru, Israel and Australia. The name was given to the ELS cotton being grown in the Southwest U.S. in about 1910. It had previously been called American-Egyptian cotton but was renamed to honor the Pima Indians who were growing the cotton for the USDA in Sacaton, Arizona, where the government's ELS breeding program was being conducted. "Supima" is the trademark name used to promote and market textile and apparel products made with 100% American Pima cotton. Supima provides licensing agreements to textile mills, manufacturers and brands/retailers for the expressed purpose of promoting specific apparel and textile products in high-end retail outlets. Industry people often refer to American Pima cotton as "Supima cotton."

What's the difference between Supima and Egyptian cotton?

All cotton grown in Egypt is "Egyptian" but it is not all ELS cotton. Egypt is one of the largest producers of ELS cotton in the world, but it consumes much of what it produces. The majority of what it exports is long staple cotton, not ELS cotton. However, the description "Egyptian cotton" conjures in the mind of many consumers the image of the very finest and longest cottons in the world. Egypt does produce and sell some of the best ELS cotton in the world, but it amounts to only about 7% of annual global ELS/LS cotton exports, and is approximately 25% of Egyptian cotton exports. Supima cotton has become the cotton of choice among the world's fine-count yarn spinners.

Why is Supima a premium cotton?

Supima accounts for only about three percent of annual cotton production in the United States. Its fineness and longer staple length makes Supima a premium cotton fiber. It is used to spin finer count yarns, which can be knitted or woven into softer, finer and more luxurious fabrics. It is grown in select areas of the far west and southwest U.S. where the cotton can benefit from a long growing season in a hot, dry climate. Supima cotton is grown exclusively on furrowed rows where growers can closely regulate irrigation and other inputs. Its production costs can vary in different states and regions, but it generally runs a little more expensive as upland cotton costs in the same area due to extra management of the crop. Ginning is more expensive because Pima cotton is roller-ginned, not saw-ginned like upland cotton. Supima is grown in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas.

How do Supima® products benefit the consumer?

Products made from 100% American Pima - Supima cotton will have superior strength to a product made of upland cotton or upland/Pima blended cottons, which will improve the durability and increase the lifespan of the textile and apparel products. Because of the fineness of Supima cotton, more fibers can be spun into a yarn of a given count, which will enhance the feel and softness, drapeability and brilliance of color of a fabric.

Hurray! Our Jewelry Is A Hit!

They loved our jewelry this weekend at the Nashville West Elm Etsy Artisan Show! Ladies just couldnt figure out which ones to choose.. there were so many they loved!!
Between the amazing West Elm decor backdrop and their natural/modern props, we had the loveliest setting to display Tinaevarenee Jewelry!
There was a great crowd.. loud music.. icee gelato.. a photo booth..and other great local Etsy artists featured.

The visual design team was on the scene to help us just as much as we ever could have needed, which was amazing.. many hands make light work! They were so helpful!

Tina whipped up the perfect backdrops herself ahead of time (the beautiful thatched burlap stands and aged music notes)

We had wonderful help, who turned out to be a perfect model for our headbands and earrings!

and overall it was a very nice experience! We will be having lotts more shows now that we are on a roll!

Bluer Than Blue

Now here's ya some inspiration for a good springy/summer refreshment! These blues are so quenchingly tasty! Can't wait to try me some blueberry cream cheese toast! And the blueberry smoothie.. i can taste it right now!
I once was taught that anything you see in nature is what you want to shoot for in a design color palette because God knows just how you'll like it and every color relates to you and the other colors around to create a feel, a revelation, an inspiration, and a desire. So, I'm seeing deep watery blue, springy purple (which is what the blueberry's bleed), fresh green and orange/brown from the pancakes. So, there ya have it.. your tasty refreshing well rounded color palette that i think would carry through splendidly in somewhere like maybe a kitchen :) And then.. there is always somewhere else you could apply it like, your ears. Tina is the truest recycler I have ever met! Now, my grandma grew up during The Great Depression, and she did her fair share of mending old blankets and reusing pillow cases, turning shabby old underwear into rags... but I have never seen such scientific ingenuity when it comes to re-using TRASH! Any plastic container, including the lid, aluminum soda cans, milk cartons, cereal boxes, aluminum foil, detergent jugs, shredded newspaper, and basically anything imperishable that I haven't mentioned can be reborn! Leave it to Tina to discover a use for it. Her creative new line of Up-Cycled Jewelry is just one of the venue's she has used to redefine her once-used household objects. And they have turned out to be so perfect! The earrings are lightweight, unique, whimsical and colorful. I have a pair that I wear at least once a week, when I want to feel casual and yet blingy at the same time.
The other day, I was walking by Tina's work station. I assumed she had gone to Hobby Lobby and purchased all the perfect sized jewelry containers to hold her various beads, hooks and hoops. But, at a closer look she told me that each of these containers were once the bottoms of juice or soda bottles, salad or deli containers. I was amazed that it all came out so ORGANIZED! I never imagined using random plastic containers to organize your creative particulars could be so neat and clean and visually pleasant! And not to mention the old violin case she displays her tools and what not's in. Ingenious! I'm pretty sure Tina's life mantra has something to do with finding a good use for every particle she owns and continually stretching each resource to it's limits and beyond. She has an amazing gift for doing what she loves to do. There's a verse above her sewing machine that says it completely, "Whatsoever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might." And that she does!
