<h4>Ingredients</h4>
<p>2 cups (spring) water<br />
1/2 cup raw almonds<br />
Pinch of salt<br />
Few drops or half stick vanilla (optional)</p>
<p><strong>Directions</strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Soak raw almonds overnight in water. I usually take the skins off as well, you don&#8217;t need to.  The milk will be a darker colour if you leave the skin on.</li>
<li>Drain  and rinse almonds</li>
<li>Add everything into a blender, blend well.</li>
<li>Pour the almond milk in the nut bag into a large bowl.</li>
<li>Squeeze the bag to get all the milk.</li>
</ol>
<p>I don&#8217;t normally drink it straight up <img src='http://www.pureinfusion.com/wordpress/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />   but you certainly can.  I use it most in smoothies and soups.  You can store for 2 days in the fridge (shake before drinking).</p>

<p>Yep you read right, it was a DNF (did not finish)</p>
<p>When I got the bright idea to do a triathlon last October, I was coming into it with a strong cycling foundation.  No running and no swimming, so I started with training the running.  I wasn&#8217;t until March that I started even going to the pool and it wasn&#8217;t until June when I started swimming lessons.  My last lesson was the same week as the race. <img src='http://www.pureinfusion.com/wordpress/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>So definitely my swim was my weakest link.  I had practiced for 2 weeks in the lake, early morning to get used to the temperature.</p>
<p>There was NO way I was prepared for the weather we ended up with on race day.  The wind and the waves was stronger than I was THIS year.</p>
<p>I look back on the experience and I knew that I was barely ready to finish in perfect conditions.  But I learned a ton and faced many &#8220;first time&#8221; steps.  Just walking up to the table and registering was a HUGE thing.  Hearing the horn blow and walking into the water was a HUGE thing.</p>
<p>So next year when I do it again, I will have only have to worry about getting across the finish line as everything else will be old hat!</p>
<p>Plans are already started for the training schedule for next year, I am excited about improving my skills and kicking ass next year!</p>

<p><strong>Saturday</strong> – Brick &#8211; 30 mins of cyclying and 30 mins of walk/run</p>

<h2>Goals for the Week Aug 15 &#8211; 21</h2>
<p><strong>Running </strong>- mon &amp; wed  &#8211; steady state</p>
<p><strong>Biking </strong>- tues &amp; thurs short hill ride</p>
<p><strong>Swimming </strong>- Every Morning at least 45 mins at the lake.</p>
<p>Now that I am feeling much better with the swimming&#8230; I feel much better to about getting into the lake.  Early morning swims to get used to the water temperature.</p>

<p>Step 1. Stand with the feet together and the arms by your sides. Separate the feet slightly further than shoulder distance apart. Inhale and raise both arms straight out from the shoulders parallel to the floor with the palms facing down.</p>
<p>Step 2. Exhale slowly while turning the torso to the left, bend at the waist and bring the right hand down to the left ankle. The palm of the right hand is placed along the outside of the left ankle. The left arm should be extended upward. Both legs and arms are kept straight without bending the knees and elbows.</p>
<p>Step 3. Turn the head upward to the left and gaze up at the fingertips of the left hand. Inhale and return to a standing position with the arms outstretched. Hold this position for the duration of the exhaled breath. Exhale and repeat on the opposite side.<br />
The triangle pose is basically doing slow toe touches while concentrating on your breathing and stretching your body.</p>

Believe it or not, electric cars have been around for a very long time. In the early 1900s, there were more electric cars than there were gasoline-powered cars.  Back in the early 1920’s when vehicles were becoming more popular, gasoline was very expensive. It also was hard to start a gasoline engine; you had to turn and turn and turn a crank in front of the car to get it to start. There was no key to start the car like we have today.<br />
Gasoline vehicles were also noisy and put out lots of smoke. The cars either had no mufflers, or the mufflers didn&#8217;t do a good job. So, electric vehicles were a big hit. At one time there were 50,000 of them on the roads and streets of the United States.<br />
But electric cars soon faded away like the horse-drawn carriage. New ways to make gasoline cheaply were being discovered. A new invention called an electric starter was made. It started an electric car with a key instead of a crank. A gasoline car could go much farther than an electric one. So, gasoline-powered vehicles soon became the main method of transporting people.</p>
<p>Now that there is a push for cleaner “green” cars, electricity is once again being looked to as a way to help reduce greenhouse gases released into the air by gasoline and electric cars could be one of the answers to this problem.</p>
<p>Electric cars don&#8217;t burn gasoline in an engine. They use electricity stored on the car in batteries. Sometimes, 12 or 24 batteries, or more, are needed to power the car. Just like a remote-controlled, model electric car, electric cars have an electric motor that turns the wheels and a battery to run that motor.<br />
To charge an electric car’s batteries, the car is usually plugged in at night. Some electric cars can plug right into a regular electrical wall outlet. Others need a larger outlet, like the kind that a stove or electric clothes dryer plug into. Electricity, is then stored in the batteries of the car.<br />
The batteries can be lead acid batteries, like the batteries you find in our flashlight or in regular gasoline cars. Or they can be ni-cad (nickel-cadmium) like the kind that run portable video recorders or a portable video game player &#8212; only much larger. Better batteries that hold more energy and last longer are being developed. In 2001, by the time today&#8217;s fifth graders are ready to drive, electric cars should be able to travel 150 to 200 miles before recharging.<br />
Car manufacturers and scientists are constantly coming up with new ways to fuel our vehicles in a cleaner, more environmentally friendly way.  The production of the electric car is an exciting one that is being embraced by more and more people every year.</p>

<p>One last big push this week to work on increasing my speed and then steady work next week so that I am not too tired come Sunday.</p>
