Honestly, when they gave me an amount to spend on their site it took me a month to just decide what I was interested in buying. Then I had to narrow down which type/kind of thing I wanted. I love the options on the side to limit price [I'm not paying over $100 for bed sheets!], style, color, brand, and more. Without those options I would still be clicking cluelessly around their site.

Do you want to know what I picked? A set of Traveler’s Choice luggage so that next time we go to a conference my husband and I will not have to borrow any luggage. Our first matching luggage! Hurray!

After I ordered the luggage I received an email that said it was discontinued. I was so bummed, BUT it turned out that I had read the email wrong. I had been looking at another luggage set that was out of stock and asked them to email me when there was one available. Turns out that set was discontinued, but the set I ordered was in the warehouse. When I called on the phone to get it straightened out – because apparently even if I can read I don’t always read it right – I actually talked to a person! A very nice, knowledgeable lady that spoke American quickly helped me get everything straightened out.

The luggage came yesterday and I plan to use it to travel to Blogworld in October. Speaking of Blogworld – I have a partial sponsorship and am interested in working with another company if anyone out there is interested. [I do video and writing and more!]

In Daisy Whitney’s New Media Minute she gave a list of what marketers want to measure according to Jamison Tilner. There were no explanations given and I can’t find an article by Tilner that includes the list.

It’s been rolling around in my head for a couple days and I thought you might like to ponder it as well.

So here is what marketers would like to be able to measure.

attitude & sentiment
analysis
recall
favorability
purchase intent
viral reach
viewing engagment
post view click stream behavior
social media impact

How do your videos add up?

Are you including a call to action?
Do they know where to contact you?
Are you clear with what you want the viewer to do?
Does your video have a point? Is that point clear?
Will people want to share your video?
What will people remember from your video?
Did the watcher feel any connection with you?

Gideon has a good idea to fix the viewfinder problem, but I think he could have made the video a lot shorter. I did not watch the whole 7:33 minutes.

This video on how they make a Domino’s commercial is really interesting. I also like the contrast between the “fixed-up” video and the cook snapping pictures of the pizzas right out of the oven.

This video is just for fun. I really like the big piano. One point I thought of was about camera angle. I watched several of the related videos and the people right in the front had trouble getting both players in the same shot. The videographer on the side could just hold the camera steady instead of standing in front and going back and forth between the two people.

It’s common for people that want to video blog to think they have to have certain equipment and everything just so. I think you should just start with what you have and build from there. A camera that I would have bought several years ago when I started is not what I would want now. Things that I thought editing software should have – never got used and other things the software didn’t have were things I wanted.

Also there’s the possibility that you will hate video blogging. I can’t imagine why, but there is that possibility.

So, get your feet wet. Start vlogging. Then figure out which direction and equipment you want. The equipment I use is listed on my resources page.

5 Minutes for Mom posted some advice that Emma Thompson gave for aspiring actors. I think it can pertain to video bloggers. We are acting in a way even though we try to stay real. Number 3 was most intriguing to me.

I’m going to try not to link to ReelSEO every week – honest. He just has so-o much good stuff related to video! The one I found really interesting lately is titled Education Is The #1 Reason Marketers Use Online Video. The good news is that he says online video is still growing.

I’ve been involved with vlogging since spring of 2008. I’ve often heard people say that they want to make a video but don’t know what to talk about. Part of me thinks that is just an excuse, but I smile and say, “A good place to start is with an about video.” Really, anything you can blog about you can turn into a vlog.
