Happy New Year

Welcome 2020! Thought I’d give the old blog a try on the 1st of the year. Here I am it’s 1:20am PST and giving it a go. I am not one to make new year’s resolutions because by the 15th of the month I’d give up. Honestly, I’d forget what they were - they just weren’t solid enough or life changing.

Instead of trying to stick to something that doesn’t really stick, I’m going into the new year with the most simple rules to live by. They won’t have a deadline or some type of instant gratification tied to them. Nope, not doing that this year.

So here’s a simple list I’ve put together for myself, in no particular order. I hope you find it helpful, easy and perhaps you might join me.

1. I am my own competition and in reality the only one that stands in my way. So each day I will try to be a little better than I was the day before. Reading, audiobooks, devotionals, journaling, etc. (Self improvement)

2. Instead of telling myself “can’t eat this, can’t eat that” I will change my dialogue to “I can have all these healthier option instead” I personally think that there are way more healthier meal options than there are bad ones, at least in my experience it’s just a lot easier to eat something healthier but the not so healthy options are always the more convenient and faster to get to. (Make healthier choices)

3. Counting my blessings everyday and being grateful for everything rather than complaining about all the things that I can’t control (like traffic, taxes). (In everything give thanks)

4. I will surround myself with likeminded people who want to see me and others succeed. I am a firm believer in the quote “We rise by lifting others” I like to see people around me happy and succeeding, there’s no greater joy than to see friends and family accomplish their goals. Stay around positive people, there are plenty who will not want you to succeed “misery loves company” - those are the ones to steer clear from. (be around Positive people)

5. Embrace. Embrace the past, embrace the moment, embrace what the future brings. Embracing change and the seasons of life we are in, for it’s in those moments where we can pause and realize that change and growth is taking place. (Accept where you are - you won’t always be there - keep evolving)

Trying to be more present and intentional even in the smallest of things/moments. Keeping it simple, not adding much stress to myself, I think those 5 rules should be pretty simple right?

Here I am again, skipped completely over the entire year “2018”. I thought I had give up on this little blog of mine. Here I am, a little wiser, a little older, a little tired and all that comes within a year of working hard and raising a family and a business. My pride and joy are my girls, making sure they grow up happy as can be yet well rounded and grounded for this crazy world we live in is not a simple task. We are constantly growing and evolving as humans and as parents. Needless to say we have been busy doing life, trying new things, changing how we think and have been brought up, experiencing more positivity, enjoying new relationships and surrounding ourselves with people who share our same vision for family, life and living a purposeful life. We have done some major growing up as people and together as a couple and enjoying an ever so changing life that we didn’t think we get to enjoy, saying yes to opportunities and being open to “change” has been our greatest blessing.

Cheers 2019, to growing and refining who we are and all that is to come.

Seriously eyelet tops/blouses and bohemian style tops and blouses too are some of the best ever. I have so many and the style is just timeless. I try to buy the ones that are wrinkle free but let's be real not everything cute comes wrinkle free.

This is super cute for a casual day or for the office just add some slacks or a pencil skirt; nonetheless lots of tops can be dressed up for work just by adding on a cute blazer or cardigan.

And cheers because it's gonna be a long evening... And coffee was a must (again)

Busy is good

We have been busy to say the least the last few months, lots of changes, lots of new experiences that's for sure. Transitioned from kinder to 1st grade, from private to public school. It's been good changes all around, thankful that things are falling into place.

We embarked on a journey last year and started our own business. If you've read a few posts ago you'll know this isn't my first rodeo at owning a business. This came to us at a time I had just shut down my previous "side gig" so I was not in the market to add something new to my plate. However, something felt right about this and sometimes that's how things happen when you're not looking for them "they come to you". So needless to say it's been such an amazing experience, such a time of growth and dedication to something that is to the benefit of our family.

A Huge Leap of Faith

I'm a very visual person, the kind that only likes books with pictures, then again I've matured and read a lot now (well not really, I like to be read to) so thank God for Audible. I had made it a goal this year to listen to as many books as I could. Some I even had on paper back like The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.

Really good "listen" and I love the narrator Jeremy Irons who's the voice of the Scar from the movie The Lion King, I sometimes leave the audible app playing while we are getting ready for bed and my 5 year old daughter was the one who called that out... she said that's Scar Mami... and sure enough it was. Must listen if you guys have audible.

So why is my title called a huge leap of faith? Back to the visual side of me. Well I started seeing so many post of ladies on Instagram who's lives and skin were changing. I first saw a picture about 2 years ago of a consulant who began her business and had her father use the product. It was amazing results in such a short period of time. But of course there's that side of us that think "it's too good to be true" and so I never really looked into it. Recently a friend of mine began to post pictures and I immediately commented and wanted to find more. I know my friend's family, her faith, the kind of friend she's been and always such a sweet person, so I trust her, and everything I saw I knew was true, because if it made sense to her it was going to make sense to me.

We sometimes need that extra level of validation, so we quickly began to talk and I'm the kind of person who is willing to try stuff that friends and family have tried, I don't even ask twice because it's people who you trust.

If you know me personally you know that I have been in multiple multi level marketing companies, and all have been "sad to say" for all the wrong reasons. I was young(er), trying to make an extra buck here and there if I was lucky, but most importantly "hello!!! The discount I would get for myself" (I think my husband might eventually read this and it might not go so well) but yes! I can say that now, as I'm older and more mature and really don't see the need for 50 different necklaces, perfumes and clothes, I felt those were things I could sell and get people excited about, but how much jewelry does one really need? So earlier this year, called all that stuff quits.

... But the entrepreneur in me is always looking for something new, right? I honestly believe in direct sales. Every business out there has some form of direct sales. A tire manufacturer for example has their salespeople sells to tire shops to car manufacturers etc... in the world of commerce there's always salespeople. You can't get away from it.

I remember as a kid when we moved to Mexico I would see people selling fruit with lemon salt and chile and sometimes with my neighborhood friends we would play store till my little entrepreneur self started selling cucumbers with salt, lemon and chile. I often got in trouble because my mom thought I was mocking a family nearby who actually did that to really help themselves financially. Being a little girl maybe 8 years old at the time, I thought it was just fun and why not make a few extra pesos. But sadly my mom closed my shop down lol! Oh well. All that to say I think there's a natural salespersons inside of me, I've just always been selling the wrong stuff. Never really felt passionate about certain products, always signed up, never felt I had a strong support group with my upline or cared to learn the business aspect because why would I, I just wanted a discount.

So here I am taking a leap of faith because:

• I see with my own eyes what these products are doing for people's skin and their lives

• The before and after pictures, the testimonials are just some of the overwhelming evidence that this works.

• I know that the consultants are real people like you reading this right now and like me.

There's just so many things! I wouldn't be writing this long post if I didn't believe in it. Who would want to have a piece of this market with me and help change lives while it changes yours?

I just know this is the beginning of great things to come. I took the leap of faith without even trying the products... yes without even trying them.. because I know they work, I see them work, I know the people in the business who are successful and well I just saw this as a huge opportunity to help others and my family. This is different to me because for once I never thought "how can I get just a discount" like my friend and so many others I said "how can this help others and help my family"

That's all guys, not too much sarcasm and wit today. This is serious stuff

Happy Friday

It's felt like a really long week, then again short at the same time (weird) Things I really want to do and finish by the end of this week didn't really pan out.

I'm just glad it's Friday and I get to regroup. Fall dance classes begin again for the girls and there goes our sleeping in on Saturday mornings. It was great while it lasted. But I'm so excited to see my little dolls enjoy their dance classes and they get to meet new friends and for me meeting new moms is always fun too.

The sun was shining bright through this window. Loved it!

It's beginning to feel like fall so hello to this beautiful dress my good friend over at

Routines... Who does that?

Apparently a lot of people are list makes, time keepers, routine for everything-people.

As much as I would love to have a routine it's really hard. I work full time I feel like I commute full time and quite honestly a routine and cooking dinner at the same time and putting the girls to bed at the same time always has me feeling short of what I could be or far from what others do to make it work...

Magic words spoken there folks: they flowed from my tongue right this instant: "MAKE IT WORK"

So I've come to realize, REALLY!, like no joke! I hate routines!!! Probably as much as I hate swimming with sharks. But I feel so far from perfect and feel so out of touch half the time because honestly every day is different. Everyday I end up catching a different bus, why? Someone had a melt down before the leaving the house, something unexpected happened, oh yes - like forgetting to fill up on gas the night before. Car tire has a leak, at the school or at my parents either girl had something going on and I hate, hate, hate to be dismissive and that parent who makes their kids feel abandoned, cause at the end of the day where ever it is I am trying to get to, IT WILL BE THERE. This wasn't always my mentality folks, but once you're a parent: shit changes, and it changes you fast. Bottom line is something is always up. There is traffic for no apparent reason and I get it, we live in So Cal, when isn't there any traffic? But life happens and I find myself stressing trying to meet the status quo, trying to be that mom that can do it, that gives their child a bath at 6:30 each day, that wakes up and goes for a run at the crack of dawn (there's coyotes in my neighborhood and I do need my beauty sleep) so yes. So I say hell to the routines: every night is a different day and my life is happening a moment at a time. I can't stick to a certain ways of doing things because it's just doesn't work for me. It doesn't work for us. Every evening is different, sometimes we have a home cooked meal, sometimes, we eat the food my mom packs me to go, Tuesday's is Taco Tuesday and so we may be having that, or we all meet once a week and eat out. But that's just it, that's "our" family time, that's what works. We "MAKE IT WORK", I make it work, somehow we all manage to have clean clothes, clean socks, plenty of clothes, food in the fridge. Is the laundry put away after the wash??? Maybe! they may or may not be put away after. Who cares!

What is consistent is the showing each other: love and kindness, teaching the girls to be respectful of others, to be sympathetic and empathetic, to show and share their feelings, to share and get along with others, manners, how to behave in different places or situations. Just stuff we hope to pass on to build their character, self esteem and more importantly their confidence. We like to talk to them like little people, my husband and I once told each other before having kids that we weren't going to do the baby talk thing, so now we pride ourselves in the fact that we have helped build their vocabulary by speaking to them like mini adults. It's helped in so many ways, in the way they communicate back to us, they are able to express their feelings better, what they need, what they want, etc.

Moral of the story here is YOU make it work, however it is that you make your family work, that's good and keep doing it, never feel like you fall short from being the perfect mom, wife, sister, daughter, etc... You just have to be you, and if routines don't work for you because of certain logistical reasons or timing issues, don't be so hard on yourself. At the end of the day, no one is keeping a score card on how beautfully you've decorated, how many Pinterest recipes you followed, how many workouts you got in during the week, how many loads of laundry you did and "actually folded and put away", how nicely curated your Instagram feed is, or how many times you eat as a family and cook dinner together, NO ONE IS KEEPING TABS ON YOU, let's face it we all try to bring our best foot forward but the bottom line is no one cares. I find myself finding IG feeds boring that are just too perfect. Life is imperfect, life is now, let us not feel compared to others because there is one you, there is only one you: who is perfectly made, yet we strive for perfection and fall way short, when what we should strive for is our purpose.

You "MAKE IT WORK" because in the end no one cares about what kind of car I drive, no one remembers if you left dirty dishes in the sink one night, or how much make up we pack on, what kind of purse I wear, the only thing that matters is that I leave a legacy of strong little woman behind, that I share myself and give them unconditional love and attention. Values and morals will last longer than the next trend.

This week was rough, we are all under the weather, lots of over the counter meds, a trip to Kaiser, my hubby and I both sick too: sinus issues, head colds, chest colds, all kinds of colds... Ugh you get the picture.

This week really went on a little too long. Thankful we get to sleep in and rest, no one rushing to work, doing drops offs. We can all sleep in and try to rest it off some more.

Hats off to all the moms out there, sucks when we are sick right? We get no pitty, so special treatment, life must go on and we have to tend to the rest. The day I stayed home from work, I had to wake up early because the demanding 3 year old needs her banana and milk shake... And it's blended with a spoonful of honey and oh... And it must be strained because God forbid you forget.... "No, no señorita" or as she likes to call me "mamacita" when she's sarcastic... Yep it MUST be strained, otherwise a chunk of banana might not go through the PINK straws. Well at least she knows what she likes and it's healthy so I can't complain, she's been having more than 8oz a day with a full or half a banana in each shake. So yes, to say the least: taking a sick day to get some rest and get well turns into a whole day of work when you got kids. I mean non stop.

One of the nights that I was feeling horrible I had to make the trek out to LAX to pick up my parents. It was a pleasant drive (NOT) I was so stuffed I could barely even breathe I had a fever and was just miserable. I hardly made small talk or any talk because I couldn't really... One of those times when all you can do is breathe through your nose type of deals, head pounding, at a max with all the over the counter shit, enough not to damage the liver.. You know do not exceed a certain amount in 24 hrs... That kind of stuff I'm really afraid of so I try to watch it, take it, but just enough not to cause damage elsewhere.

Before I made my way to the airport I stopped at a coffee bean & tea leaf for my favorite medicine bag (tea) If you haven't tried it, it's a must. It's a blend of peppermint tea and chamomile tea and more; just soothing goodness in a cup. I've ordered it for many years as the medicine bag and it's just awesome.

Why does he care to know the place?

He said "well it wasn't that good"

I said "well you're welcome" & big sticky note to self "don't pick up strangers at airports"

Just kidding: come on... You didn't believe that did you? No I totally meant... Don't pick up "bad coffee" for my dad next time I get him at LAX and I'm dying of the worst sinus infection/chest cold/head cold/fever and happen stop by to get me some tea and a nice "welcome back pops - kind of coffee" yeah no I shouldn't get coffee anymore. Ugh... You can imagine how I felt. Some people just don't know the little things. It's hard for me to sometimes see the little things. The little things are the big things (insert screaming emoji here)

(Note to self: go back to my old ways when I would make their arrival time "my" departure time to head out to LAX).

Sometimes change is not good guys... Some ole tricks actually "Do the trick"

To end this sickness filled week/post on a positive note, I did love and cherish the time with my family and although I wish we weren't all under the weather, we were still all safe under one roof. I cared for them, fed them, and gave kisses and air hugs from afar to try to lessen the contamination risk (too late) and although no one offered to rub my back with

Vapor Rub I tried myself, got the chest right, my own back rub with the Vicks ended up in my hair really, and then accidentally in my eye. You would think I'm a newbie in the Vicks business... But anyhow, thankful for everyone who's wished us health and have been patient and understanding with us.

One more thing. The day I was off (RESTING!) I made the best chicken soup with brown rice I've ever made. Hands down! (The rice was at the bottom of the bowl) I even had 2 maybe 3 servings. The little redness in the center of the bowl is chile chipotle sauce from a can. Gave it an extra flavor and kick to it.

I'd give you the recipe but then I'd have to kill. LOL!

Water your own garden

While at my folks' watering their plants it was nice having time to myself, alone in my thoughts and marveled at the beauty that surrounded me (jungle). These beautiful intricate plants and flowers, all the visual colors, shapes and textures of the plants and trees, so much visual stimulation going on, it all reminded me of how awesome God is in all his creations. I couldn't keep up with how many potted plants I had to water and some were wilted...

I couldn't name 3 plants to save my life. Aren't they all just roses? Lol! Just kidding. While the girls napped and my hubby worked on a speech, I was listened to my brother's birds chirping and the sound of the water, I seriously cringe when it comes to watering plants, I've always felt like, come on gets some damn sprinklers people! Let's get this over with. But after a few minutes of tending to the plants and pretending I was my parents I felt this serenity come over me, like a sign to not rush it, water each one, give it what it needs and the amount it needs, observe the leaves and the blossoms, the trees and their fruit. It's like for some reason each time I water their plants it a tug at my heart strings, a slap in the face, a jab in the ribs telling me to slow the effff down. Once again, this takes patience and care, two things I'm not always too in tune with when it comes to plants - period. Is this supposed to teach me patience? Is there a reason why they ask me and not my siblings? Am I being tested here? The more I spent in their garden the more I thought of awesome it would be to have my own garden at home and tend to it, maybe it will teach me a thing or two about patience, maybe it will be the one thing my parents would leave me, an ounce of care for plants and loads of patience. And the thought occurred to me, if I take some of their plants, would they even notice? Hehe! Ok I didn't take any home but the thought did cross my mind... Why would i go to a nursery to buy some when they have like 30 of the exact same one. And why? Why would someone have that many to begin with. Only they know and I guess watering one by one makes people happy? I don't have time for that so I would be the first to get a water drip system going. But would that defeat the purpose of tending to a garden and experiencing what my parents experience as they garden? People are just different. Seriously, who knows. Looking at the sad plants I was feeling all sorts of ways. Weirdest thing ever. But it felt good to know that I won't have to hear that the plants died under my watch.

Tons of these plants and the ants were feasting at my feet. And a couple of pincher bugs got me too.

So in a nutshell, I learned that I'm not ready to tend to gardens and spend countless hours pruning stuff and watering, I have tons of tending and pruning to do in my own life. Watering my own garden: Caring for my little girls and my hubby, if there's any free time I've got? it will be tending to them and growing more in love and in marriage that will in turn make for a better childhood for my girls, to see a lasting and loving Marriage as an example for our girls will be all we'll be tending to. Nourishing them with love and affection, planting seeds in their minds of goodness, kindness and more importantly of love.

Moral of the story: I think I fell very far from the tree when it comes to loving plants the way my parents do and that's ok! I've come to terms with it.

It's okay to not love what they love. It's hard to get them to understand that we are just different in that respect, I honestly think they task me with the watering of the jungle because they think I'm just going to love it and grow my very own green thumb.

For now in our own home we are sticking with the sprinklers and never letting go of our gardeners.

Let's play pretend

Today was an earlier start than the usual for our little household (for a weekend). During the week it's running around since 4:30 am sometimes 5:30 am depending on how many times I hit the darn snooze button. Snooze button is my friend. Best thing ever. It's like a gentle call, again and again. We ran some errands, haircut for the hubby, breakfast on the go and then we were off... Boom! Pretend city here we come.

Ok so back to my point: We were invited to a birthday party at Pretend City Museum (if you haven't been there, Omgeee you have to) I was living under a rock. Thought I knew all the cool kid spots. Apparently not. This was just the cutest place ever. Great place for a bday party.

Literally the name says it all, it has pretty much what every city has to offer and it's all kid size and for kids, if you can picture a mini city with mini kids ruling the place? That's exactly what this was. With a pretend Ralph's market, a taco restaurant, post office, a kaiser permanent, dentist office with a kiddie waiting area and way more.

Teach them early how to pump gas lol! After all half the time it's trying to get them from point A to point B cause after having kids we are just the chauffeurs right?

Behind the scenes at the taqueria, chaos!!! Need to call in chef Ramsey up in this joint. (Chef Ramsey? Is that his name? Hell's Kitchen?) anyone remember that? Yes, No? Ok I'm old.

Learning about soil and the veggies that grow in the ground

I ordered tacos from this girl and clearly she had to make an important phone call. I'm gonna yelp this place. Service wasn't all that. Those huaraches though! All the heart eyes for these itty bitty feet

Apply pressure to the pretend ouchie on my knee while they also check my pressure. These girls are really showing off their teamwork and their divide and conquer skills. Impressed patient here. These kaiser doctors rock

This wasn't me saying "aww this is awesome, have a blast" this was really me "you better not get your clothes dirty". Yes I can be one of those moms. Because seriously my girls want to change - I don't even know how many freaking times in a day- and it's not that cute - washing loads and loads of clothes. The goal is that I hope they wear something at least 2 times if it's not soiled. We're in a drought too remember? And.... Ain't no body got time for that!!!

There are many more exhibits that I didn't photograph, I was trying to enjoy and stay in the moment and also not loose a kid or my husband with the kids, honestly I was so messed up on Benadryl because my allergies were on fleek that I had to and of course I was drowsy and groggy and just wanted to find a spot and close my eyes. Dribble, dribble & more dribbling

Holding a pretend basketball on Wednesday at the park got me feeling all sorts of ways, I honestly forgot what it felt like to even bounce a ball. We made a fake basket out of some paper bags and game was on.

Back in my days I used to play in a team since my 3rd grade class in Mexico... To playing all through elementary, junior high and highschool. I never realized in my adult years what I was missing. So I took myself last night to get me a ball. I ended up getting a pink and white one. Good for outdoors. My girls thought it was for them when I came home. are sure going to think "it's for them" it's the little things guys, I forgot that part of me. I forgot how liberating and how good it used to make me feel to walk on a court and get a team going, to play scrimmage games, to make a 3 pt shot. That was my jam. Not too long ago in a box in the garage I found one of my basketball shoes I used to wear my freshman year. Are you kidding me, in those new Nike basketball shoes I thought I was the shit! Seriously, they were high tops, had a quilted texture and stitching on the inside of the shoe and the Nike symbol was a navy blue. I only saw one shoe in the box and ended up throwing it away. Who knows where the other could have been. For a second I thought why am I even holding on to these, this is more than 20 years. (That's nuts to even say that because I look like I'm 18 people! - just kidding).

So I tossed the one shoe in the trash. (Sad face) I had been going through a phase of trying to get go of stuff. So much cool stuff was sent to goodwill. (Oh well!). So last night I was that mom dribbling all through the kitchen and at some point I thought.. "Oh well if I hit something or break something, a big fat - OH WELL". I was living a little y'all it was awesome. Now my daughters weren't that impressed, they really wanted me to spin the ball on the tip of my finger. I explained how mami can play, but just can't do the tricks you know? You gotta be real with the kids. They see stuff on TV and think we're all capable.

Needles to say, Last night for a split second in between getting them to brush their teeth, getting them to bed and dribbling in the kitchen like a mad woman; I have to say last night was pretty AWESOME in my book. Maybe that's what I need after a long days at work, a suck ass commute, I need to dribble the damn ball!!! Boom! Moral of the story: go to Big 5 while they're on sale and get a ball! Dribble your heart out! Now I need to just get out to the park and shoot some hoops. Make a friend or two and get a game going. Who needs a point guard?

About to get more uncomfortable (part 2 of 2)

Hello my dear readers. It's been a couple of weeks since my last post, which was pretty, pretty long, you can read it here when you have a moment. So as I was saying the dreaded C word runs in my family. I mention in my last post that I asked myself to get mammograms and they also did the ultrasound as well. Being on top of this and being proactive is key.

It's hard to write about this because I saw this awful disease take my first cousin, I remember before she passed I was having my first biopsy (that was when my oldest daughter was a little over a year old) my cousin and I would text back and forth and would tell me she was praying for me with all her might. She was the strongest person with the strongest will to live. She kept her friends and family all updated on her treatments via email and I run across emails from time to time since her passing, I still keep her texts saved in my phone, I still get so emotional, it's very surreal losing someone so close to you. I know she's no longer suffering, she's in heaven pain free. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord (2 Corithians 5:8) I can't quote bible verses to save me. But that one I repeat each time she enters my mind. Each time I hear of anyone passing, I find comfort in it.

... I received a letter early June this year that my yearly mammogram was due. I have been living in fear, this terror enters my body when I think of it. I had been praying since early this year to overcome fear to let things be and fall where they should, to let God have his way, to guide me and protect me. I was dreading my appointment like you have no idea. I made the appointment and I went in, this time around I felt a sense of peace, I felt calm. My prayers were answered. I had a little pep in my step. Of course I don't realize this till after the mammogram was over. I didn't cry. This time I didn't cry. In the past years just getting undressed to put the gown on, I would be sobbing. I would be a hot mess. The mammogram technicians were probably sick of me. But I can't explain it. I would think of the worse. This time I left and was like "bam!!!" That was easy. The day went by, the next day came and I was like wow! My letter should be coming in the mail, all is good, right?

Well I decided to take a walk at work like 2 days later, To check on something in my old department where I used to sit with my really good friends. So I happen to stop by and say hi, as I stood in my friends cubicle my cell phone rang. No one calls me anymore, who class right? And I recognized the phone number. It was Kaiser. "Hi, Gabriela?" (My voice already cracking) "yes it's me" - well to make a long story short they saw something on my right breast. Of course I was a hot mess the rest of the day, all the days leading up until the "diagnostic mammogram" which I believe is another way of saying - squeezing the shit out of your breasts, but just horizontally but vertically too. If you want to paint a picture in your mind. I'm a "b" cup, that means "barely boobs" means I at least graduated from training bras. The day came, I went in and sat waiting for them to call me in. Now if you want to paint another picture in your mind: I'm sitting in the mammogram waiting area with other women, most of them were a lot older, and we are chit chatting, felt like a movie when the prisoners ask each other "what are you in for" of course that was me asking. Yes... it's personal, I know. But if making conversation with these women takes my mind off stuff or better yet, helps them take their mind off stuff then I'm all about the chatter. The stupid TV had one of those soap operas that have been going on since I was a kid. So we talked about that, they kind of giggled, I told them all they would squeeze of me would prob be just nipple (sorry TMI) but it made them laugh. I don't mind being the bud of a joke. It's funny. If it makes other laugh at my expense and if it's no big deal, it's okay. I try to not take myself too serious and well to say the least, for a minute we probably forgot where we were. ------ Gabriela! Gabriela! Awww shit that's me... Then my heart sank "again". Shit just got real. They do their thing, the tug, squeeze, hold your breath, breathe out - thing. It was over before I knew it. I was like cool! I can go now, right? Ms. They'll send me something in the mail right? I gotta get going. She said well just put your robe on again and wait in the waiting room again, you will get your results right away, the doctor needs to see. (At this point I'm trying to remain calm, in my mind I'm like "efffffffff what now?" I sit and try to pay attention to the awful programming choice they got going on. Then they come back to get me. "Mrs. Huerta, please keep your gown on open in the front and put this one on open to the back, the doctor would like to speak to you" at this point I don't even know what to think, of course the worse goes through your mind. So I tried not to let my fear and anxiety show through. I'm praying like crazy!!!! I go in to see the doctor in a dim room he has my scans magnified in the huge monitors. He said he found something on the right where they initially saw something suspicious, AND, AND, the big freaking AND.... and Mrs. Huerta we see something on the left side too (side note: I'm a mess inside at this point, I'm like wtf wtf wtf... I remember him saying they were calcifications, I remember all I was trying to do at that point was read what he had finished typing in the screen, he had made up his mind at that point right? He had written down what he was gonna explain to me, so like the impatient shit I can be, I even said "what can you repeat that again?, because I zoned out and was looking right at the screen. He said based on my family history he is scheduling me for a biopsy. I was like wow, wow, wow... This isn't happening. And I left that morning feeling defeated yet hopeful because I knew that wasn't the end, it was for precautionary reasons. my family and friends made me feel relieved and I texted everyone I know asking for prayers. This is some really hmbling shit. I couldn't wait to get home, shed tears and let it out, kiss and hug my babies and hubby tight, and in all of this emotional crisis I was feeling I still felt Gods love. Gotta go getting off the bus guys... So sorry I didn't finish this and maybe wrote more than I should have. Guess a part 3 is coming to get to biopsy experience in. Thanks for reading. About to get uncomfortable (part1 of 2)

Have you ever felt invincible? You're on top of the world, going to school, got a cute boyfriend. You're a starter point guard on the JV team, junior year (or not really) but then something just bring you back to earth? Let's just say I've had boobie issues since I was a teenager. In high school I remember crying and crying in my boyfriends arms telling him I was going to Kaiser for a check up. Well, at 16 or 17 if you're fairly healthy and went for checkups it would probably be like a physical or something pretty much routine. Right? No biggie. Yikes! well it wasn't for me, I was scared to death at the time. I thought I'd get wheeled into the hospital because I was experiencing breast pain, I had been experiencing pain and never told my mom about it. You know those times you try to self diagnose yourself, maybe I got elbowed in a game, maybe I am still developing, you know? Growing pains, but maybe one was bound to be bigger than the other? Well broke the news to my mom one day and we set up an appointment. I was so nervous. I had my first ultrasound in my late teens and they found that I had dense breast tissue, or fibrocystic tissue and well around that time of the month for years my right side would throb like a muther (insert a bad word here). And sadly the Dr confirmed it was not a growth spurt (dissapointment emoji here porfavor)

FAST FORWARD many, many years later to when my oldest was 1 year and 5 months (Or for those who like to tell the age of their child in consecutive months like the lease of a car 36 months, then my daughter was 17 months old) side note: poking fun at that cause I find it hilarious... Just staaap it! People think you're weird)

Back to my story: I can't remember why I was there at the time and I thought it would be a good idea to tell the dr that my mom had breast cancer in 2005 and my dear cousin was battling it herself at the time as well. I asked if they would schedule me for an ultrasound or mammogram. I had just stopped nursing 5 months prior. I figured that's pretty traumatic for the breast right? Nursing and pumping and 100% going at it for 12 months!

Side note: tooting my own horn here-moment: Pat on my back because I've never felt so proud, then also so rejected at the same time, because at a year and a week exactly my baby was like peace out mom, I graduate from this stuff, it was good, no hard feelings, but let's move on) anyone know this feeling? Isn't it you always want to be the one to break up with the other person? RIGHT? And for it to be your baby who you are working day and night to bring home the bacon... I mean the milk for? That innocent little face that just looks up at you and giggles and is so over you and breastfeeding that just crushes your heart... Aww it was awful, I cried a few nights over it. Not the week in the knees kinda-cry when your getting dumped, ouch cause that shit hurts too)

Back on track here... Are you following? Have I lost yet? Ok here we go:

So basically why not get a breast check up after all to see what was even left of them... They did a mammogram and an ultrasound too both the same day. Didn't have to miss work the whole day. I hate missing because of anything dr related. So the ultrasound tech did her thing, there you are exposed to the elements and it's cold and the gel that thing stays warm for a .5 a second. Not cool. But sure enough, knowing me "so how do you like your job" then I think what the... Was I thinking? She must really like it right? I think who's in the medical field and doesn't have a passion for it. So here I go again with more stupid questions "so how long have you been an ultrasound tech? That is what you are? Ultrasound tech?" Not only do I probably irritate people but I must offend a lot of people on the way. They are all pretty courteous, and dammit they are all so hard to crack, I'm sure it's in their oath, if they even have one when they get sworn in for their jobs. Does Kaiser administer an oath to their patients?

Maybe it goes like this:

"Do you solemnly swear that you are never to give good or bad news, that the patient must remain your patient and never your friend, that you hold your composure when you see something wrong and without any hesitation you respond with "I'm not allowed to tell you ma'm the radiology department will contact you in 3-5 business days"..... So help you God?"

I don't know, I'm so not mocking their system of operation here, but I get it, people don't want to assume things and don't want to be held liable for any misrepresentations. I think that's why I'm not cut out for that kind of field. I'd be too honest. For example if I was an X-ray person and someone came in after a bike fall or a bad stumble? I would most likely think out loud "holly shit how bad was the fall sir? You got like 20 fractures here, not to worry though, you're in the right place and we're here to help"

OH MY!!! Can you imagine! I wouldn't last a day or someone would pop me right on my lip or cheek, depending on my angle.

But yeah when I am nervous? I most likely ask the most stupid questions. And I'm probably the worst patient. So surely enough the tech is doing her thing I am hammering her with questions, she's been there a year, loves her job, no kids, two dogs, recently engaged, loves wearing scrubs, she doesn't need to get creative when picking clothes because they're all blue... Man I was on a ROLL, she stopped me dead in my tracks. She went to go get the dr. For a minute I thought she was gonna ask to get relieved because I wouldn't shut up, but she said "stay with the gown open, I'll be right back I want the Dr to take a look at something". My heart sank, everything that could go through your mind when you are terrified went through my mind... He then comes in and says "there is a 20% chance what we see can be cancer but we need to do a biopsy" wow I went back out to the waiting room feeling like the tiniest person, like a little tiny ant lost in a big world. I hugged my husband and cried and was just terrified and here's where it gets good: remember the boyfriend I cried to in high-school? Well that happens to my husband too (babe if you read this know I love you, you've seen me at my worst and in every emotional state possible - mostly stuck on bitch state - but nonetheless you still love me too)

(I know I sometimes wish I came with a mute button myself) - ^ what the nurse was thinking.

So yep, went back in for the biopsy a couple days later for an ultrasound guided biopsy and had been praying with all my might, gave it up to God and it was at a bit stressful having to wait, that the worse, more time alone with your own crazy mind is so not fair. But Thank GOD the results were that it was not cancer.

If you're a friend or family member you probably knew about this, I may have called you, texted you, emailed you, Instagram DM'ed you and I thank you for your prayers and support. I personally don't like long nails or acrylics so be thankful that I don't because everytime I'd break a nail and if it was a painful one you'd probably be getting a call, a text, an email, an Instagram DM too. ;)

There will be a part two to this long post. The "fast forward 4 years later" part from this point on in my story. Stay tunned. It's 2 am and I'm just beat.

4th of July is right around the corner and like every year, I want to craft, make pretty things, hang red, white and blue decor to celebrate our nation's birthday. And well... It comes and it goes so quick, for example I should be working on my Christmas decor and ideas. I think a few months ahead of the game is a good timeline for someone like me who works full time, add commute time to the equation = another full time job. Etc., etc. etc..... you get the picture: I'm full of excuses.

Sometimes we just have to live vicariously through Pinterest! Right? Like these mason jars above, been on my list of things to paint. I have tons of mason jars. Maybe one day.

You can shrink the writing to make it smaller, send to a printer and cut it like a banner, add some cord, ribbon or twine to it and boom! I think I like saying boom. BOOM!

It's been an honor to attend for the 2nd time and be surrounded by my good friends, strong and inspiring women in my life. Love them to pieces.

This event brings so many women from across the world, from all walks of life to become one, all united in God's love. On a mission to lift each other, laugh, cry, get inspired, promote change, unity, and more importantly to hear the word of God and change the world.

So many good messages, I could have been writing so many good notes, too many pictures oportunuies I missed too, but I decided to just take it all in and focus, it was all about the moment and all about God.

This is all folks, one thing though: God loves you!

Hope this is inspiring to some of you and please don't hesitate to share this link with friends and family, with the ladies from your local church

she rises it's truly worth it and it's really a great time to spend with yourself, your thoughts, to conquer fears in your head, to open up, let yourself become vulnerable and just accept God's love. When in DTSA

The adventure began before 8am, stumbled across Café Calacas as I was on the hunt down for some good coffee and to be specific, yes... Café de olla.

Found it and was not dissapointed, everything in here makes you want to stay in here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Inviting and welcoming atmosphere. The Art Deco style buildings and pedestrian friendly streets lined with beautiful trees and greenery make DTSA a cool place to be and especially early in the morning when you need to charge on caffeine for the day.

I wish I owned these chairs...

The walls, the tables and chairs, the clean lines and contemporary feel make this place warm and inviting.

Erick and Sergio (not pictured in the post) were the nicest guys, helpful, welcoming and very attentive to the customers.

Such a cool wall, just looking at it makes me hungry specially te "cajeta" part.

This place had a little bit of everything and absolutely loved this part of the "Padre nuestro" prayer on their wall.

The restroom= super cool! How awesome is the tiling here? DTSA on the wall was pretty cool, right? Being that this café is on the first floor of the West End historic theater built in the early 1900's, this place has lots of history and smack down - in downtown SA

Smitten by the Frida Kahlo tiles. These are bathroom goals guys, how awesome is this.

Character, character, character... You can tell what type of place you're at by the way they keep up their restrooms. At least that's something I've come up with and observed over the years. The fact that there is so much character and cleanliness all over the place is such a bonus.

That's me in my work attire, don't mind the legs that need a major tan. (SMH)

Walking back to work, this little gem café visit had to be cut short, I will definitely be back to enjoy their food, and pan Dulce and cups and more cups of café de olla.
