[b:23a1tcao]These 2 Ferruginous Ducks at Paarl Bird Sanctuary are still of interest to me... These birds occur in small numbers south of the Sahara right across Africa from Cameroon in the west to Kenya in the east. The timing of their arrival here would also seem to suit a reverse migrant, so I suppose a little more investigation is required... [/b:23a1tcao]

[b:1d4fif83]Just shows how easy it is to make errors when you try and rush things late at night and don't get time to properly check your work... The RED-HEADED QUELEA mentioned in last night's report is, of course, actually a RED-HEADED FINCH and not a Quelea. For whatever reason, my mind wandered off to queleas when I should've being typing finches! The Quelea would not really even be considered that out of range in that area whereas the Finch is a pretty good record for the area... [b:1v5450cd]Ettiene Marais has just made contact to report a probable Upcher's Warbler along the Zaagkuildrift Road this morning. The co-ordinates for the sighting are S 25 09'49.2 E 28 07'17.7. African rarities | Zest Rarity | BREAKING REGIONAL NEWS: Rooisand goodies

[b:1kjzofpm]Margaret and I have spent this morning at Rooisand Nature Reserve near Kleinmond and what a great morning in terms of regional rarities we've had so far! The morning started off with a male RED-BACKED SHRIKE right at the turn-off to the reserve which was followed by a GREAT WHITE EGRET on the vlei right in front of the parking area and, most recently, we've just had a YELLOW WAGTAIL down near the hide! And it's only 10:30...! Certainly one of the better mornings in terms of regional rarities we've had in a while... [/b:1kjzofpm]
