[b:2z5942vs]COBirders, Early this morning, Brad Steger and I made a brief stop at Two Buttes in hopes to re-find the PAINTED BUNTING reported by John and Lisa Rawinski from early this month. It was right where they had found it, thanks for the report John! Basically at the end of the road where there is a sign saying service vehicles only. We figured there would be many campers there and we were not disappointed so needless to say we did not bird the place much. We did have a pair of YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOOs near the entrance along with an INDIGO BUNTING. We also had a GREATER ROADRUNNER near the Painted Bunting location. [/b:2z5942vs]

[b:2mmti5f9]While this is the busiest weekend of the year at most cemeteries, Nature is always busy and doesn't stop for tons of cars, visitors, shovels, and new flowers. Yesterday I watched an adult Great Horned Owl fly into an American Elm with what appeared to be a Eurasian Collared-Dove. It ate the good parts (head) and took the remains up to one of two youngsters in the same tree. The parent stayed with the welfare recipient for a quarter of an hour, then flew off. Today I found all three of this year's brood sitting together shoulder to shoulder in the same elm, with one parent in the next tree and the other sitting off in another tree. All five of this year's family grouping present and accounted for. [/b:2mmti5f9]

I haven't yet heard a Common Nighthawk in Boulder County, but earlier today, Sunday, May 27th, Hannah and I heard a Red-eyed Vireo singing at Greenlee Preserve. Not that anybody in the world but me would care, but that Red-eyed Vireo was a Greenlee first for me: #215 at the preserve. Woohoo!
