I'm a really big snacker. I always have been. that doesn't necessarily mean that I just eat all the time. It's just that I've always taken snacks to keep up my energy. But lately those snacks have been really sugary and haven't been all that healthy. I really need to fix that, though.

I'm making an effort to get even further behind the idea of eating healthy snacks by trying to make some on my own. At least if they aren't my favorite thing to eat, I'll feel guilted into finishing them off because I not only put money, but also time, into them. I looked through some recipe sites to see if I could find some good healthy snack recipes and when I was doing that I saw some info on debt counseling. I glanced through that information and after that I decided to sign up for some debt counseling, which is something that I probably should have done at least a year ago.

I found a few healthy recipes that stood out to me, including a couple of really good sounding ones for hummus. That is one healthy snack food I like, so I'm going to try those out.

Science Diet Ideal Balance Grain Free Cat Food Review

We have switched our cats food after doing some research and deciding that some other options were better for us and our cats. It's a personal choice and I know everyone has their own opinion and what works best for them in their home. One of the things we try to look for now is that the first ingredients listed are meat and that they are grain free when it comes to dry food for our cats. While our cats diet also consists of wet food, we've noticed a major change in activity, coat, and litter box changes since we've switched to holistic dry food/wet food.

I recently went out on a limb and tried Science Diet Ideal Balance Grain Free cat food. I was very skeptical at first because I'm not the most familiar with the brand other than random advertisements but the first ingredient listed is chicken so I figured I'd give it a shot. I ordered a two pound bag online from petfooddirect.com and it came super fast. The kiblets are small (about pea size) and my cats actually took to them and ate them which was nice considering they do not take to change well when it comes to their food.

One of my cats is picker than the other and has developed allergies to grain. With this version of Scient Diet food he did not puke which was a bonus for us. The only draw back I found with Science Diet Grain Free is that it's very expensive. I can go to Petco and buy a great rated holistic brand (4 pounds worth) for about what Science Diet is selling their 2 pound bag for.

Moving to NYC

Back when I was in high school I would stare a pictures of New York City and tell myself that I would one day live there. Well folks, the time has come! I am officially moving my self and all of my worldly belongings to the Big Apple. It has been a long time coming. I wanted to move here straight out of college but as you might have guessed that didn’t work out. One thing that did work out though is that my grandmother willed me a rent controlled apartment in the best neighborhood in Manhattan! I was really concerned that I would not be able to afford living in town even though my rent was covered. As it turns out the New york energy rates are negotiable and are a lot more reasonable than I would have imagined. Thankfully I also got a better paying job so that I can afford to eat at all of the amazing restaurants in my neighborhood. I am not ashamed to stroll around town in an I heart New York t-shirt because let’s be honest, I do love NYC.

RTT - spring and virus's

I'm linking up with my girl Stacy. It's been awhile! There's been a shift in gears lately and I'm still trying to keep up. I am so glad spring weather is here! Everyone else swears it could snow any given time but for real? It'll be the highest yet today with 80s then tapper back down to the 60s the rest of the week. I've never been much of a fan of winter so I'm hoping the snow has exited..........

On to other random stuff I've gotten into this show called Alcatraz which started off a lil slow but next week is the season finale - that was fast. Anyone else watch it? We have our calender set for Keith Sutherlands new show, "Touch"...although I still call him Jack Bower from his old show 24.

Anyway since today will be nice and warm I'm thinking of potting up a few flowers. I guess I'll see what's available. Have you planted anything yet? I just like the colors and homey-like feel they can add. I have already excitedly taken out the "outdoor blooming"- house plants. We had some that did horrible over the winter indoors. I cut them to nubs and have no idea if they will even come back! I'll let mother nature take over em', I was getting tired of looking at them.

On another note, I think my desktop has a virus or something so I'm on the laptop. The laptop has windows 7 and the desktop the old windows. Hubs says that the older version is easier to hack with. I think I'm about ready to hang it (desktop) up anyway. It's bulky and well slower too. I just like the keyboard and the fact that the screen was bigger. Is it just me or do you find that switching keyboards can be "error" city? Anyway part of it is my fault. I did some scans trying to fix it on my own and deleted some important windows things....lol. So now it's really messed up.

Ahhh. Well hope you ladies are having a great Tuesday!

RTT - Thirst Relief, Shoes and Stuff

Good Morning ladies.

Being that's it's been awhile since I've linked up, I wish I could say that all kinds of exciting things have taken place but that wouldn't be the case. Same ole, same ole here. I have enjoyed winter thus far with it's hit and miss aspects. We were actually able to sneak in a grill-out session which was nice. I can't believe that groundhog said another 6 weeks of winter? Um, okay.

Regardless of the mild winter, I still have my regular seasonal dry skin. I've been dousing my face with Clinique's Moisture Surge daily which has helped a lot. My skin goes from rough to silk in no time. Know of any other good creams or lotions that make your face/skin feel divine? Last night I used Lubriderm on my legs and that worked okay. I have to actually put down Bath and Body Works because the scented ones make me itch in the winter, I get that dry. More water intake perhaps?

Do any of you watch the Dr. Oz show? In December he had a big giveaway going on where you could actually win anything from a Sony Tablet to a Philosophy Set. Well, I actually won a pair of Reebok's! I'm still super excited about it because I normally don't win those kinds of things. The hardest part was waiting the 8-10 weeks prize fulfillment! If I win anything at all, it's usually small and un-noteworthy. These shoes (Real Flex) are super comfy and I mean super comfy!!

FORGETTING BIRTHDAYS

I logged onto Facebook this morning using my marietta internet service. I realized that I had completely forgotten my Aunt’s birthday! Isn’t that awful. I have gotten so bad about remembering birthdays because of Facebook. I used to know all of my friend’s and my family’s birthdays. I knew all of them! Now, I can’t remember them all. I have to log onto Facebook to remember birthdays… where has technology taken us! Of course, I wrote on my aunt’s Facebook wall, but made a point to call her. The whole time that I was talking to her I felt like she knew that I remembered her birthday because of Facebook. I guess that it could be me being paranoid, but next year, I am going to make sure to call her first thing in the morning. I will not forgot the next time around, that’s for sure! I called my mom to tell her about the situation. I was surprised to learn that she had forgotten her own sister’s birthday too! She got on the phone and rang her house! My mom has gotten bad about this too!

Let's face it, just about everyone we know with little girls has had their little one sport cute infant hats or baby headbands a time or two! I don’t know about where you live, but the crime in Michigan has gone up. I am sure it has a lot to do with the economy. There are still the same old thugs that do crime no matter what the state of the economy is, but now more and more people are becoming desperate because they are out of work and cannot find a job anywhere. They are turning to petty crimes like breaking into homes and stealing things that they can pawn or sell just to try to put food on their tables. I was insistent that we get a security system right after we bought our home. We found our system through home security Michigan. I mean we do not really have a lot of expensive things that could be stolen, but I am sure they would be interested in televisions, computers, and stereo systems. I never really thought a whole lot about things like that before. We live in a nice upper middle class neighborhood where we used to leave our doors unlocked during the day when our children were growing up. But now, I don’t even leave the garage door up anymore.

Vapor4Life (e-cig) Review

I've put off this review for a short while because I wasn't sure how to approach it. Yes, I smoke and yes I've smoked way to long and yes I've quit before, only once and have struggled with it ever since. It's the most unhealthy thing I do and affects every single part of my life. Whew. That feels better, now on to the e-cigarette. I was stoked to try the e-cig from http://www.vapor4life.com/ and I was probably setting myself up for failure by getting so excited because any alternative to quitting smoking isn't magic and we all know willpower plays a key role in quitting smoking. I will start off by saying that if you are a first time trier I highly suggest speaking with an associate at Vapor4Life so you get exactly what is recommended for starting off and what may work best for you. I found their team to be very helpful and knowledgeable in that role.

The e-cigarette is not a traditional cigarette and contains no tobacco! It does not burn or produce smoke. When you inhale or see someone inhale what you'll see is the vapor exhaled. It's made up of 98% propelyne glycol, glycerin, and water. It does contain about 1-2% nicotine and some flavoring compounds.

There are few things to know about e-cigs before trying them in the event that you are looking for an alternative to quitting smoking. It will take some getting used to! For starters and from my experience they are considerably a lot heavier and longer than regular cigarettes which makes them feel a tad foreign while holding them. Another thing is that it's hard to judge just how much vapor you may be inhaling because it's lighter than smoke so I did find myself coughing at times. I found the LED light (operation mode indicator light) at the end of the e-cig useless (other than indicating battery life) because when you inhale you can't even see it unless you pull it away quickly and look at it. In the brochure it states that 14-16 puffs on an ordinary cigarette is fairly equal to 14-16 puffs on the e-cig, but it further states that you should stop for about a half hour before using it again. It never stated as to why.

There are many and I mean 150 (cartomizer) flavors to choose from whether you want one that mimics your regular cigarettes, "wow beer", "espresso" or even fruity like "wow melon" as well as a butt load of others. The cartomizer is like the "filter" looking piece that attaches to the battery tube of the e-cig. I must say that it was great to have something that actually left a better taste in my mouth. You also get to choose from your preferred strength (7 options) whether it's regular, lights, and others. The battery charger is great and I found that the battery life and flavors lasted longer than I would have expected. The kit I received came with a card that says "The Right to Vape" although I haven't visited any establishment to try it I imagine this would be handy in the work place or at bars. I can totally see myself puffing on one of these in dire situations.

I still use my e-cig kit but do not yet use it exclusively as I'm still trying to wean myself away from regular smokes. For more information I recommend checking out the Vapor4Life website. They have a wide range of starter kits to suite many budgets as well as accessories and even a forum. I think you'll be amazed at the vast selection and most importantly the views and opinions expressed are my own and ANY product claim, statistic, quote or other representation about a product or service should be verified with the manufacturer, provider or party in question.

Express Scripts and Walgreens will no longer be working together due to unsuccessful negotiations and so the contract expired at the end of 2011 thus essentially cutting out the middle man (Express Scripts). Walgreens wants to continue smoothly without an increase in costs to its customers even if that means they would receive lower reimbursement rates at below the industry average. This goes for all Walgreens pharmacies nationwide including Duane Reade pharmacies in the New York City area.

If you were on the Express Scripts plan with Walgreens you may want to know the changes that will take place at Walgreens and what they are doing to try to minimize disruption and inconvenience to you. First, Walgreens has put forth a national effort to make the transition as smooth as they can even if that means taking care of you should you decide to leave Walgreens in order to use Express Scripts in-network coverage.

While this only affects patients with certain prescription plans managed by Express Scripts, it would be wise to either contact your local Walgreens if you're unsure or checking the back of your prescription card to see if your plans deals with Express Scripts.

Happy Friday and the first Friday of the New Year which seemed to fly by, don't you think?! I hope all is treating you well. I can say that for a change, our winter has started pretty mild thus far and the sun is actually shinning for me today.

I've been trying like mad to stay in tune with some "goals" I've put forward for the New Year but I can say that it's been a ruff go at it thus far. What do you do to keep your goals on track? If you don't mind sharing as well, what are you goals, did you make any?

Slanket Review

I don't know about you but I don't like feeling cold especially at home! I like to cuddle up with ultra warm socks and at times a Slanket! These are great to add a little comfort this winter when it's snowing out and your just vegging on the couch eating popcorn and watching movies!
The Slanket is known as being the original blanket with sleeves as many of you may know already. These are big enough to cover up even your feet which I love since mine get cold fast! In fact if you have kids they even make them for their size. I would suggest not just getting one because it will get borrowed by other family members for sure! Even our cats think it's up for grabs.

The Slanket I received for review was the Slumber Jack ($29.99 retail) which is black and red checkered. This version doesn't have pockets but that was totally fine with me! They have men's designs, tween styles, grandpa designs, plain designs, you name it they have it!

I actually have my eye on the Zebra one but it's been quite popular and is sometimes out of stock when I check (except for right now!) so if you find one you like it's best to get it right then because someone else may snatch it!

These are also very light weight which makes it very portable for airplane flights, travel in the car, kids soccer games on a cold fall day and more! Do you have a slanket?

My sister and her new husband recently moved way outside of town. They did it because they’re expecting and it’s going to be – get ready for this – triplets! Multiples actually run in my family so it’s not THAT big of a surprise but we’ve never had anything but twins so it’s going to be new for everyone involved. They bought a big house but in order to afford all the space they had to move way farther out than I think they’d like to be so I’ve been helping my sister settle in these last few weeks. She’s only 6 months pregnant but as you can imagine she’s huge and I know she is really thankful I can help. For Christmas I went to wildbluedeals.com and got them a year of internet because even though they’re way out there I know they’ll still want to stay in touch. Sara’s even talking about putting up a baby blog to keep the family informed of the kids’ progress which I am all for – I love baby pictures!
