Performing Arts Night dinner Newaygo Bands silent auction

Tickets are still available for the Performing Arts Night dinner being held at the high school next Tuesday, March 25 at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 Kids 5 and up $5

There has been a ton of work done on this event and not many tickets sold. I am hoping for a great turn out. Please consider joining us for a delicious meal and a fun, entertaining evening!

This book takes you back to the 80's and back to being a teenager. April Grace thinks her sister Myra Sue is dumb just like most teenagers think of their siblings at some point or another. The problem with this book is that there is constant name calling throughout the whole book and it never seems to be addressed. April Grace tries to find out just what her sister is up to, How to handle her Neighbor lady becoming her teacher, a new Baby coming home, And everything else that is changing in her life.

I realize that the book shows what kids go through in the teen years but at the same time the name calling in the book may make it look like that is normal for a child that reads it and okay for them to do. I also did not see much of a christian base to the book although it is published by a christian company. Overall I had to give it a lesser rating because of the negativity and lack of a christian story to it.

This is a daily devotional, although I read ahead. This is great for someone wanting a devotional to read with a spouse. It does not take much time, so If one of you is not a reader it will take a few minutes to give you something good to ponder through the day. The left page has 3 or so scriptures and the right page has a topic for the day.

This would make a great gift for newlyweds or and anniversary gift. I love the way that Gary Chapman always references the 5 love languages in the books I have read.

New Michigan Property Tax exemption for 100% disabled #veterans #Woundedwarriorproject #Military

Today I received this email regarding Property taxes for disabled Veterans From My CareGiver Support Coordinator. Please pass this on to Veterans and Veteran Service Organizations:

Recent legislation approved by Governor Snyder declares that if you are a disabled veteran owning your own home, you may be exempt from paying property taxes. Disabled veterans who have been discharged from the armed forces under honorable conditions and meet one of the following criteria now qualify for this tax exemption in Michigan:

a) Has been determined by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to be permanently and totally disabled as a result of military service and entitled to veterans’ benefits at the 100% rate.

b) Has a certificate from the United States Veterans’ Administration, or its successors, certifying that he or she is receiving or has received pecuniary assistance due to disability for specially adapted housing.

c) Has been rated by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs as individually unemployable.

When I Read the bill I seen that your exemption from taxes starts on the Date you became 100% disabled. I called the city of Newaygo and they stated that I need to talk to the assessor for the paperwork. The lady at the County of Newaygo Treasury office stated that it is so new that they do not have the forms yet for us to fill out. I still wanted to share this so that anyone who qualifies can be prepared to look into it with their local Assessor. I also seen that if a spouse of a veteran does not remarry she will still qualify for the exemption. I will be checking out more details as they become available.

Some questions I have to get answered are: ( I will get the answers to these as soon as I can. At this point the tax assessors are still being trained on how to do the paperwork for veterans.

If I paid taxes while disabled will I get a refund on those taxes paid?
If I owe back taxes during a period I qualified in will they be dismissed?
What paperwork will I need to fill out in order to see if I qualify?
If a spouse of a veteran who should have qualified has died previous to this bill going into effect, can the surviving spouse still apply as long as they are not remarried?

Governor Snyder recently signed into law P.A. 161 of 2013. This Act amends MCL 211.7b

regarding Veterans Exemptions to read as follows:

Sec. 7b. (1) Real property used and owned as a homestead by a disabled veteran who was

discharged from the armed forces of the United States under honorable conditions or by an

individual described in subsection (2) is exempt from the collection of taxes under this act.

To obtain the exemption, an affidavit showing the facts required by this section and a

description of the real property shall be filed by the property owner or his or her legal

designee with the supervisor or other assessing officer during the period beginning with the

tax day for each year and ending at the time of the final adjournment of the local board of

review. The affidavit when filed shall be open to inspection. The county treasurer shall

cancel taxes subject to collection under this act for any year in which a disabled veteran

eligible for the exemption under this section has acquired title to real property exempt under

this section. Upon granting the exemption under this section, each local taxing unit shall bear

the loss of its portion of the taxes upon which the exemption has been granted.

(2) If a disabled veteran who is otherwise eligible for the exemption under this section dies,

either before or after the exemption under this section is granted, the exemption shall remain

available to or shall continue for his or her unremarried surviving spouse. The surviving

spouse shall comply with the requirements of subsection (1) and shall indicate on the

affidavit that he or she is the surviving spouse of a disabled veteran entitled to the exemption

under this section. The exemption shall continue as long as the surviving spouse remains

unremarried.

(3) As used in this section, “disabled veteran” means a person who is a resident of this state

and who meets 1 of the following criteria:

(a) Has been determined by the United States department of veterans affairs to be

permanently and totally disabled as a result of military service and entitled to veterans’

benefits at the 100% rate.

(b) Has a certificate from the United States veterans’ administration, or its successors,

certifying that he or she is receiving or has received pecuniary assistance due to disability

for specially adapted housing.

The purpose of this communication is to make Assessors and Equalization Directors aware of

this new Act and to provide some basic guidance. The State Tax Commission will issue

additional guidance following their December meeting.

1. This exemption is only available to disabled veterans or, if the veteran has died, to their

unremarried surviving spouse who own and use the home as their homestead.

2. The disabled veteran or their surviving spouse must be a resident of the State of

Michigan.

3. Assessors are advised that eligible disabled veterans will be able to apply for a 2013

exemption at the December 2013 Board of Review. An exemption will cancel the July

and December 2013 taxes, but will not cancel any taxes levied before 2013.

4. The Act requires an Affidavit be filed but does not require this Affidavit to be an official

State of Michigan form. A standard Affidavit is not planned to be developed at this time.

Today, while I was in the process of preparing to consolidate my husbands student loans I found out that we could apply to have his discharged.

The process for a Veteran with 100% Disability is really simple. You have to show proof of your award letter from the VA showing the disability and fill out sections 1 and 2 of the form found here. It took me 5 minutes or less to fill it out and fax it over to 1-303-696-5250

If you look at the form you will notice how simple it is if you have the 100% VA rating. If you do not have that, but are disabled, and receiving Social security Disability you can apply and use your award letter from Social Security. You can also apply and have your Doctor fill in section 3 if you do not receive Social security. Some people will be required to send in proof of income, Although Veterans with 100% disability do not. For more information on the rules you can see their web page.

I am not clear on all the different rules for everyone. I just wanted to share this as it was something that will save us about $25,000 dollars. My husband has a Degree that he can no longer use because of his disability. It was sort of like Christmas for us today finding this out. :) They said there is no minimum or maximum amount. Everything would show as paid in full if you qualify including the interest that has been accrued. Once you send the application in they put a hold on your student loans for 120 days automatically while they decide if you qualify or not. One application will cover all of your federal loans also. I will be posting a while from now and letting my readers know how the process went and if it got approved for my husband.

Because, I take care of all my husbands paperwork for him, I also had him sign the TPD Discharge: Applicant Representative Designation (PDF) This form gave me the right to speak on his behalf as well as fill out the paperwork for him.

We had our first experience at an allergist this week. We really did not know what to expect. It was no where near as bad as I thought it would be. At first they put put 2 test spots on him so that they would have something to compare the rest with. The one spot reacted and the other did not. The one that reacted itched really bad and the other just turned a little red. After that they tested him with a Normal Kid panel that has the most common allergies. If the spot looks like the test spot that reacted it was positive and if it looked like the one that did not it was considered negative. He actually fell asleep waiting for them to see if they would react. None of them showed an allergy.

We also had him tested for celiac disease this week which came back Negative. We are very happy for that also.

Back to School Allergy Tips

Materials used:

I bought this pack that included hot-pads and hand towels at Walmart for 5.96.This could actually make 2 of these aprons as it came with 2 regular hot pads and not just the one that is pictured on their site.

I also bought my ribbon there.

I measured the neck ribbon and the waist ribbon while the hot pad was held up to my daughter leaving enough to tie the back and also enough to add a sticky Velcro to the neck. I would suggest sewing the Velcro also in case you want to wash it. You could also make the waist so that it was Velcro. I like that it ties in the back though as it makes it easy to adjust it on her. The bottom half of the apron is one hand towel cut in half.

Pinterest Recipe I Tried it before you do... Crockpot steak meal

There was a new recipe floating around for this crock pot recipe I just had to try. Sort of like the Hard boiled eggs cooked in the oven that I just had to try. I only read it for a second and lost where it was but I know it said 6 hours on Medium.

This is How I cooked mine.
I Added New york strip steaks minus that big strip of fat on the side to the bottom of the crock pot. I poured almost a whole large bottle of A1 steak sauce over it and covered it with tin foil.

I added some whole potatoes in foil and some I cut in half. I was curious if they would get done all the way through. I also added butter to the inside of each foiled potato and corn on the cob. The recipe said to put it on med and I put mine on high. The recipe said 6 hours. The neighbor lady did one and she said her potatoes were not done all the way so I think the extra hour and a half worked well. I also think that if I wanted it done in less time than cutting the potatoes in half would do the trick. Mine ended up taking 7 1/2 hours. The meat was tender and it was yummy. Next time I think I should add a little water to the sauce as it will cook out of it anyways and I don't think it will hurt the flavor. I would have liked it to be a little saucier.

I have been too busy to blog for awhile, But I read that the story of a Missing girl near where I live is not being broadcast on stations outside of our area as much as It should be. I read that With Today being the 7th Day that she is missing, It is important to keep the story in the media as much as possible. I thought maybe us bloggers could help get this out there. Each one of us has the chance to reach thousands of people through social media that can see her picture and the picture of the man that is wanted for questioning concerning her abduction.

From witness testimony the above picture is what the man looks like that took her. Evidence shows that he may have waited outside her work , as if waiting for the best time to take her. There were no cameras at the store she was working at but cameras from neighboring businesses caught his van on their cameras.

Menu Plan for the month of January
My pet peeve is hearing, "whats for dinner" and having to scrounge around to see what were eating at the last minute. In effort to get away from that, I decided to make a whole month worth of menus and shop for it all at once. It worked pretty good this past month. It gives us more time to hang out at night also.
In an effort to make a menu plan quickly, I decided to go with my husbands wishes and make a certain night of the week for a certain type of food. It was easy that way. Although I get bored with things being that uniform in life, His military side loves it. You can see from the menu this month I did not feel like getting all fancy. I knew we would be busy and I planned accordingly. This sometimes means Hamburger helper but that's okay. You don't have to be a chef. I am busy February too so I am getting ready to make a months worth of menus at once again. I will try to post it. I like to look at menu Ideas to get ideas for what to cook so My mom sent me a few months worth of menu plans that I can find other things on.

Emmy Rossum Sentimental Journey Out on Cd 1/29 /2013

Something that my husband and I have in common are a love of oldies music. We have a collection that I am not sure many people our age would have. I was excited to get a copy of this Cd for review. Before I agreed to review it, I looked Emmy up on Youtube and found this great Video.

In my opinion, She does best at the slower songs on this album but does a good job on all of them. In the first song, she reminded me of Doris Day. No one can sing Pretty paper like Willie Nelson, if your a fan, but don't take that out on her. She did a great Job! It sure does look like she had fun making the videos. She fits the part in the old clothes so well. The background vocals are great and the band did a great job with the music. It takes you back in time even if you have never been there!

You may already know Emmy from her role in The Day After Tomorrow or The Phantom of the Opera. At that time she had just hit 18. She is now all grown up and starring in the Showtime series Shameless with William H. Macy. She also stars alongside Emma Thompson and Viola Davis in the upcoming feature film Beautiful Creatures, which hits theaters on February 13th.

Juppy Momentum Review and Giveaway #thejuppywalker

Before Christmas, I was given a chance to do a review of this great baby product. As some of you may know everything computerized in my home seemed to die all at once. Maybe I should be doing a review of the 2 Kindle Fires, 3 Toshiba Satellite's and my Samsung Cell phone that died. I will leave those for later and be happy that I now own a new Gateway that I, so far, LOVE! I am finally able to complete this review. Each time I got one of my devices working, I was able to do only one review and post a few items before the device was no longer usable. On to the Review and Giveaway already!

The Juppy Momentum is one of the coolest "simple" baby items, I have found in all the years parenting 8 children. When My 2nd child was learning to walk I had one similar to this. She was walking at 7 months. After it ended up in storage I never used it on any of the other children. She did walk earlier than any of the them as they all walked in between 10 - 12 Months old. In comparing the one I had for her with this, I would say that this one is better made. It is made out of a durable canvas and can even be personalized with the babies name. The best part of this is that if you have lower back problems it makes it easy to spend a longer time helping your baby walk as you do not have to bend down to hold their hands. You simply hang on to the straps. It also gives the baby a chance to walk on their own in a sense while still being supported by a parent. You can also find great parenting articles on their web site

Ology Walgreens natural cleaner Review Laundry soap, Light bulbs, multi purpose cleaner and tissue

I was recently given the chance to try out Ology Products from Walgreen's. My computer went down and I am finally able to complete the review. It did give me a better chance to try the products before submitting my review. I am glad to have the extra time to form an opinion on the product. I loved all the products I choose. They have quite a few but I choose the laundry detergent, Multi-purpose Cleaner, tissue and the light bulbs. I was given 15 bucks to spend on products in exchange for the review but actually spent more as I wanted to try more of the products. They did have a sale at Walgreen's on them when I bought them as well as points that I earned on my card for buying $20 in products.

Tissue- The Tissue was thick enough and soft enough. That is really what you look for in a tissue when your sick. The products are made out of bamboo which helps save trees so that is also a plus. Over all it was great tissue and came to great use when the flu came to our house recently.

Light Bulbs- The light bulbs came in a pack of 3 or a pack of one. I wanted the pack of 3 as the sale, made it a much better deal than buying one individually. These are Energy bulbs with the spiral design and were bright enough to see well. The brightness is comparable to that of a "Normal" Light bulb although it is the Energy efficient one.

Laundry Soap- The laundry soap was great. I use Tide usually, because I like that it leaves the clothes fresh. I decided that I wanted to try out the ology on blankets that had been soiled to see if they would come out with a fresh scent. I bought the unscented and wondered if the blankets would smell fresh. It worked. They blankets were fresh although they had no smell, they did not have a soiled smell to them. This is important to me. I really dislike having to wash blankets or clothes over again. I need a detergent that will get the smell out after a child has the flu or an accident. I should have also tried the fabric softer that they sell and it may have given the clothes a scent. Being that some people are allergic to perfumes this would be great for them as they seemed to have no scent at all when they came out of the wash.

Multi-Purpose Cleaner Lemon and Lavender Scent- I loved the smell of this cleaner as it IS natural and SMELLS natural. Although it is a Lemon and lavender scent, I smell some of the other natural scents in it that I love. It is not overwhelming but leaves a fresh clean smell in the house. The price for it being an all Natural cleaner is good. I found it for 3.19 today when I looked and Mine is lasting a while now. Being that Walgreen's has the card you can use when you make purchases and so many deals you could stock up when its on sale and make it really worth it.
