Elphinstone Reef is a long, thin reef that sits very close to shore. The reef itself has very steep walls and can have some very strong currents as well, so expect to drift-dive on this dive. The strong current attracts a lot of life from the valuable nutrients that it brings, and a very wide range of fish and soft and hard corals. With its strong currents, expect to see large Sea Fans and lots of soft coral. And embedded Sea Worms and Christmas Tree Worms, inside the hard coral. On the giant Sea Fans, set your cameras to “macro” and expect to see a Longnose Hawkfish, a very rare, but small species in the Red Sea. You can also see the mysterious Long Whip Coral reaching out into the blue, stretching out for the valuable nutrients to catch in the current.

With its strong currents, steep sides and the temptation of the swim through at 52 metres, Elphinstone is for intermediate to advanced divers. And expect to be diving in and off of a rib, with lots of drift and current.

Are your regs getting a bit old? Have you been thinking of buying a new set of regs but your regs still kinda work? AquaLung and Apeks are now offering 40% off the RRP of their regulators when you trade in your old ones.

What’s The Deal?

If you have an old set of working regulators that you don’t want any more you can send them to AquaLung who will send you a 40% discount code off a new set of AquaLung or Apeks regulators from Simply Scuba. If you didn’t know already, Apeks is owned by AquaLung so the deal applies to both brands.

How Does It Work?

First off you need to go to either Apeks or AquaLung‘s website and fill out the form on either page to register for the deal. When you register for the deal you have to nominate a dealer of choice who will receive a copy of your discount code when you receive yours.

You have to send your old regulator to AquaLung, address below, you cannot bring them in store as the deal is between you and AquaLung. When AquaLung receive your old regs they will test them to make sure they are still functioning and then email you and us your discount code.

Come visit us with your code printed off and have a look at some new AquaLung or Apeks regs. The code must match the one sent to us and is single use only, so you can only use it once at one dive centre. The code only works with 1st and 2nd stages, it doesn’t apply to gauges and it only applies to what you traded in.

If you trade in a 1st stage with a primary and an octo, you’ll get 40% off a 1st stage with a primary and an octo. If you only trade in an octo you’ll only get 40% off an octo.

The offer ends 29th February 2016 but you must get your old regulators to AquaLung by 11th March 2016 and redeem your discount code by 31st March 2016.

But First!

Now, there are some terms and conditions that you need to pay attention to:

This only applies in the UK with UK dealers that are participating in the deal.

It’s a like-for-like deal, so if you only send a 1st stage back, you’ll only get 40% off a new 1st stage.

The 40% is off the RRP, not the current advertised price, so if the regulators are already 10% off you won’t get an extra 40% off that price.

The deal doesn’t apply to all regulators, the Black Sapphire, Tek3 and Sidemount Sets are Excluded from the deal.

Don’t send your gauges back as these don’t count in the deal and probably won’t be returned to you.

Further T&Cs can be found on Apeks or AquaLung‘s websites.

Stuck for Christmas gift ideas for the SCUBA diver in your life? Simply Scuba is here to help! Check out our round up of the top five Christmas gifts of 2015…

Hi, welcome to Simply Scuba. Come on in. In this video, we’re going to be looking at our top five Christmas gift ideas. So if you’re a scuba diver or you know a diver in your life and you’re thinking about Christmas ideas, let’s have a look at our top five. Come with me.

So in at number five we have the Scuba Strapp. Now these are a pair of straps that are really, really useful, very well made, nice and tough. You can use these for virtually anything that you can put your mind to. Very handy little gift idea, and they’re nice and small.

For number four we have this Simply Scuba tech bag package, and this comes with a regulator bag and a smaller computer bag. All of it’s padded. It uses a water resistant outer material, so it’s going to keep the water out. Keeps your regulators and your computers safe when you’re traveling with them.

For number three we have the Hollis Embroidered Hoodie. Very nice design, very well made, this is going to keep you warm around those cold dive sites when you’re diving around in the colder weather.

For number two we have the UK HangAir Hanger. This has a waterproof fan on the inside built in to the hanger, nice wide shoulders, and what this does is it dries out the inside of your wet suit or your dry suit in hours instead of days. So if you’re diving more than once in one day, it’s going to be much more comfortable inside that suit.

And in at number one we have the Exposure Marine MK2 Torch. It’s a very useful factory-sealed torch. This is flood proof. And it also has a hands-free option, so all you have to do is just tap it a few times to turn it on and tap it again to turn it off. You don’t have any buttons or any twisty mechanisms, so it’s completely flood proof. Very powerful as well, it’s got up to 1,800 lumens of power.

Those are our top five Christmas gift ideas. From everyone here at Simply Scuba, have a Merry Christmas.

Here at Simply Scuba we pride ourselves with trying to offer the best service possible and over the past year we have been pushing ourselves to add more to our repertoire. It all started with our comprehensive product videos on YouTube but over the past year we have been filming more Advice, How-To and Dive Site reviews to help you decide and experience products and dive sites before you buy them. This year we were the first to broadcast a Live streaming Scuba Q&A Show Simply Scuba LIVE with current events and presentations on different aspects about SCUBA diving for an interactive chat with our Dive Specialist.

Services

Our service to you the customer has improved too with FREE UK Delivery and Returns on all orders over £25, FREE Size Exchanges on most of our Drysuits and Wetsuits, and we now offer more Finance options on items to include the choice from a 0% 6 Month option up to a 48 Month option. We also made a big push this year to hold the range of sizes of about 20 different drysuits across 7 manufacturers.

Future

We have plenty of plans for the future, none that I can divulge right now I’m afraid, but we have ideas in the works to expand and improve our services and what we offer!

Thank you for your vote from everyone here at Simply Scuba HQ!

Daedalus Reef is a round reef in the middle of the Red Sea, situated about 90 km from Marsa Alam. Daedalus Reef has quite a lot of current, so be expected to be diving off a rib and getting back into a rib before and after your dive.

Very steep walls and fairly strong current make this a fairly advanced dive, but you will be well-rewarded from the wide range of soft corals, hard corals, and a beautiful array of colourful fish. With the current comes life-giving nutrients that feed the reef and its whole ecosystem, so you’ll see a very wide range of small macro-life, to very large pelagic fish coming in on the currents.

At the right time of year, your dive guide will ask you to make a negative entry and get down to about 30 metres before swimming out into the open blue, and you’ll be rewarded by some very inquisitive scalloped hammerheads and maybe some reef sharks, and if you’re very, very lucky, an occasional whale shark swimming past.

Scalloped hammerheads and reef sharks are very inquisitive, so when you’re out in the blue, just sit still and let them come to you. When you’re out in the blue, just sit still and watch the beautiful hammerheads just swimming past, and set your camera.

Don’t swim towards them, otherwise that will spook them. Just sit perfectly in your group and that will attract them closer and closer. The larger whale sharks are a migratory species, so at the right time of year, again, you just have be in the right place at the right time. Just still and wait for them just to cruise past.

With its strong currents, rib entry and exit, and its steep walls, Daedalus is for intermediate to advanced divers only. You need to pay attention to your depth, as watching the sharks can drop you down below your maximum depth.

Little Brother Reef is the smaller island of the Two Brothers Island chain in the middle of the Red Sea. Little Brother’s steep walls make this a wall dive, but there are some nice plateaus as well so that you can see lots of the amazing soft coral and hard coral and all the vibrant life on the reef.

The steep wall starts at about two to six meters, and then goes fairly straight down to the depths. So this is going to be a wall dive, which can have a lot of current, but you will be able to see some amazing soft coral and hard coral.

The wide range of aquatic life include small antheasis, longfin bannerfish, the lion fish, and if you’re lucky enough, you can see some pelagic shark species as well. Little Brother is a great reef to see some aquatic life and is suitable for intermediate to advanced divers because of the increased currents.

Welcome to the Farne Islands. The Farne Islands are a small island chain off the northeast coast of England. The island chain is home to lots of different families of seals that at the right time of year are very, very playful. The Farne Islands is mainly kelp gardens with little swim-throughs that you can swim through the forests, but you do get some walls with rock outcroppings that are covered in invertebrates and dead man’s fingers. Diving with the seals can be really good fun in the water, but with the colder water temperatures and the adverse weather conditions, it’s more for advanced divers who dive in a drysuit or a very thick neoprene wetsuit.
