Les Bois Tuesday: Cassis.....

This next stop on the Les Bois Tuesday train is the cute kids shop, Cassis. Located downtown Boise on Idaho St., Cassis began as a high decor shop and overtime developed into a child's boutique carrying brands likeRoom Seven, Baby LuLu and Positively Organic. Shop owner Molly Henggeler is a mom of 2 so she knows exactly what moms and children need concerning fashion, books and toys. This shop is full of eye candy, amazing fashion, quaint details and whimsical toys. Mom's, you will love everything about it.

Hello, this is Jeanette from the blog Fryd + Design making a visit while Kirsten is away. Kirsten asked me if I could make a post on my favorite fall decor, and of course. I´m so happy she asked!

For me the autumn is all about the light and colors, we have the most wonderful light here in Norway at this time of year. Let me show you,
I´m so exited and I hope you will like my pics for fall.
I like to see my house as a blank canvas, mostly painted in white. That way I can bring in colors through pictures, pillows, flowers etc that I can easily change. Right now I love yellow and orange together with pink, I like warm colors when it´s getting colder outside.

This time of year is also all about handiwork for me and at the time I´m all into crocheting. I love my small dolls and they keep popping up every were in the house. They are so easy to make if you know how to crochet, just use your imagination :)

I wish you all a happy day and I hope the wonderful autumn sun will shine on you!

Hi, I'm Ellie! I write a design blog called Mint, and also run a stationery shop called Hello Tenfold specializing in wedding stationery. Kirsten asked me here today to guest post, and I am excited to share 7 of my favorite fall decor items.

The first thing I have to have when the weather turns cold is a good bud vase (or five). Once the leaves turn brown and start to fall, having filled bud vases is an inexpensive pick-me-up. I have my eyes on these two frommudpuppy.
I also like to bring in rich wood tones to make things really cozy. This teak & walnut Danish chair was recovered with burlap from a rice sack by Lets Rebuild , a company from my own town of Durham, NC.
Some good candles are a necessity, and these maple log tea light holders add to the cozy factor. They're made by Robinson Greig on etsy.
You might remember these beautiful, hand crocheted, felted bowls from last winter. I never bought any for myself, but I've still got them on my mind... made by Papaver Vert.
I love switching out my spring & summer floral napkins for something like these handwoven checked ones. Made in Madison, WI by Jennifer Pellman of Plait.
Designers Tina Lutz and Marcia Patmos created these chunky, knit pillow covers for West Elm. A couple of these and a good throw will make it hard to get up on cold mornings!

The last of my favorite fall decor items is one I have in my own home. Each year, my stepmom buys me the latest Wolf Creek calendar. Each month has a new piece of artwork that's always just right for the season. The October print is one of my favorites from '09!

Hi! My name is Viv and I am the author of a blog called Ish & Chi where I document my home decorating projects. I also have an Etsy store by the same name. I am filling in for Kirsten while she is away. Simply Grove is one of my favourite reads so a big thanks to Kirsten for allowing me to fill in for the day and so nice to ‘meet’ you all.

Kirsten asked me to share with you some of my favourite fall décor and inspiration for the season. It’s spring here in Australia but the weather has been rather chilly (I’ve had the heating on the last few days!) so it wasn’t difficult at all to switch my brain into this season.

The cold weather has seen me drawn to darker, grey interiors which I think looks lovely combined with rich golds, olives, and burnt orange as seen in images 1 and 2.

My favourite fall décor are the pillows I own which you can see in image 3. They are so soft and remind me of knitted cardigan with their button closures along one side. In the chilly evenings I usually bring out my fluffy grey scarf seen in image 4. I end up hardly ever taking off in winter.

This week the Grove household had a sick mommy. Somehow I got a little bug but not to worry, I am back in action....I think. Everyone was ready for me to be well, including Bear (below).

While being on my back I glanced thru some old decor magazines and books. One of my favorite items to collect is vintage decor books. Better Homes and Gardens Decorating Book from 1968 is a treat. Mostly because you look thru the pages and some of what you see works for 2009. For instance the image below is an eclectic mix of plastics, metals and synthetic finishes which is how most of us decorate today. Not to mention how lovely those tufted chaise lounges are!

How fun would it be to collect dishes. Vintage and new. There is something so inviting when looking at a collection of dishes in all shapes and sizes, different colors, old and new. Here are a few that I think are lovely.

Designer's Gilt small plate set from notNeutral (1st image below) is the perfect start to a dish collection. They are quite modern and whimsical.

Les Bois Tuesday: Brass Razoo....

You want eye candy today?? Well then I have a treat for you! I could go on and on and on about this next segment of Les Bois Tuesday.
Welcome to Brass Razoo (no site available) which is located right outside of Boise in Nampa Idaho. It is like stepping into vintage, retro, chic paradise. From the fabulous redone furniture pieces to the one of a kind vintage jewelry pieces. This shop has style and I want to move in!

Elise Vaughn opened up shop in 07.07 of 07.
Let me back up.
Elise is formerly from Australia who moved to the states, went to college in California, met man of her dreams and ended up in Idaho fulfilling a dream that she didn't quite know she had until she started creating.
Let me back up further.

Elise has always had an eye for design and creativity. Her parents taught her "to make what she wanted" and "to be resourceful". She made Teddy Bears and even her own clothes at a young age. Yep, she rocks.
Long story short, she started making her designs while being in full time Social Work. She quickly discovered that she loved creating and was not satisfied with just selling at Farmers Markets and Shows. She found a little store front in downtown Nampa and turned it into a cute little shop around the corner in 2007. After just a short bit she moved right next door and made that space a bigger cute shop around the corner. (They even knocked out a wall to add square footage.) And that is where we are now. She has since gone full time with this new career at Brass Razoo and from the sound of it is pretty dang happy.
So what exactly does she create and sell?

Brass Razoo carries overstock, returned, and damaged clothing from department stores and boutiques at huge markdowns. (I spied a Trina Turk dress that I might need.) They also carry vintage clothing and pieces that were created from scraps of leftover materials.
Megan, who was working the shop when I stopped by, told me that they have the best selection of skinny jeans right now.

Elise also creates GORGEOUS jewelry pieces from vintage and broken pieces. Every piece is one of a kind.

Prices for everything are incredibly reasonable!

Now please note, Elise designed and decorated the WHOLE STORE. She reupholstered, repainted furniture, sewed, glued, hammered.....everything. Most items in the shop are thrift, vintage and re-used.
Some of her favorite places to find goodies is Salvation Army on State St. in Boise, Savors, Craigs List, and Garage Sales. Also she likes 2nd Chance Building Materials Center and Store Fixtures of Idaho for vintage lighting.

I hope you enjoyed this tour as much as I did. If you still did not get enough of Elise's eye for design don't you worry. Word has it that her home is super duper delightful so SG is planning a tour there soon and very soon.

Make sure locals that you go take a visit to Brass Razoo on 2nd St. in South Nampa.

What is going on at the Grove household....

You sure have seen alot of yellow on SG lately! Sheezzz. Yellow is not the only color I like, I promise! But for some reason alot of my favorite things right now happen to be in yellow. Oh well.
The start of a new season always puts me in the mood for redecorating. I have started a couple projects around the homestead. Mostly little changes here and there.
This is a little vingette in our entryway. (Is that yellow??)
I bought an antique step ladder a couple years ago. I like it but was not liking where I had it. So I moved it to my bedroom and I am using it as my bedside table.

We changed around our dining room and now it is more of an office but still can be used as an eating area for large partys. Here is a glimpse of the sitting area by the large window.
Below is a glimpse of my deal of the month. I found a high back settee at a thrift store in downtown Boise for $45. Yes, $45!! I still need to clean it a bit. It is in excellent condition. I am curious when it was made. The upholstery is very vintage with the birds and flowers.
This piece will go in our what was once an office and is becoming a who knows what room.

I have seen some saweet before and afters around the web this week. I love when people get a vision of what something can look and those creative juices start flowing!

Michelle from Three Men and a Lady spruced both this dresser and lamp up with new paint. And what a difference did it make! Now both pieces pop and compliment each other so well.

True rockstars Naomi and her hubby from The Rockstar Diaries did a reno on there bathroom. The white mirror looks great next to the geometric wallpaper. Everyone needs a lovely mirror.

One of my favorite afters to date is this fabulous bedroom which happens to be a finalist in the All The Best Bedroom Contest. AB Chao created a chic and modern bedroom. I love the dark walls with the white bedding and yellow pillow. Everything about this room screams cozy modern.

A friend and SG reader emailed me last week and told me that my yellow mirror is in the November issue of Real Living in the "Your Thoughts" section. Yippee! I wont be able to see it for awhile since it takes a bit longer to get here from Australia. So Australian peeps, let me know how it looks!

Les Bois Tuesday: Paisley Roberts....

I am excited to introduce you to a new installment here on Simply Grove. I have had quite a few local SG readers request tips and suggestions on shops, design and cool finds here in Boise. Well I welcome you to Les Bois Tuesday. Every Tuesday I will be introducing and or re- introducing you to somewhere fabulous in my city, Boise Idaho. Some may underestimate Boise's cool factor but I assure you that we are expanding and growing into a city full of hip and lovely finds. Really?? Idaho?? Yes, Idaho. And come on, we have Boise State football!!

Our first stop is Paisley Roberts. Eeeekkk, I LOVE this store. You want gift wrap and stationary heaven? Here it is! They have walls lined with gorgeous paper and carousels full of colorful ribbon. They carry Angela Adams, Lotta Jansdotter, Kolo, Three Designing Women, Cavallini & Co., Tea Forte, Curly Girl Design, and Egg Press—just to name a few.

The owner of this adorable shop Liz Roberts shared with me that their gift selection including Angela Adams stationary sets and their variety of candles are hit sellers. Also their Imprintable invitations are really popular. You can choose from Snow and Graham, Cross my Heart, Bella Ink, Inviting Company, Peculiar Pair, Egg Press, and more.

Their front display window is so chic! I love the dress made from paper.

The ribbon carousel is my favorite feature in the store.

If you are in the downtown Boise area make sure that you stop by Paisley Roberts on 9th St. You are going to want to buy the whole store, trust me.

New but Old.....

I wanted to give my sofa a fall makeover but not spend alot of money. I found some plaid shirts that hubby and I grew tired of and made a few pillows out of the fabric. I also found some ultra cheep vintage fabric from a consignment shop and made a few more pillows. There is another floral fabric that I found at a local fabric store that I will add soon. But for now I like my plaid party on the sofa. Oh and how about that lamp find!!

I am sure that alot of you have heard of Constança Cabral and her Etsy shop as well as her blog. I have seen her name and her work around the web but just recently sat down to take a good look at her fun blog. Her use of fabrics and her eye for mixing textiles is lovely.
