Contest Rules:

Contest submissions will be accepted from September 1, 2010 through September 30, 2010 via email to simplyloveguatemala @ gmail dot com.
Only one entry per person allowed, ages 1-18 only
Submit photo, artwork or computer graphic for the front of a holiday card (Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, Winter Solstice) with at least 300 dpi and preferably in photo ready format such as .jpeg, .pdf, .tif, .bmp
Include child’s first name and age with submission
All entries will be uploaded to a Holiday Card Contest photo album on Simplyloveguatemala's facebook page and to simplyloveguatemala.blogspot.com by October 10, 2010.

Sponsor Student with report card

Every grading period, our sponsor students pose with their report cards. At the beginning of this school season, our sponsored student's previous sponsor had to drop his sponsorship due to job loss. This young man is in High School and the fees to go to school are quite a bit higher than pre-school or elementary school. When his need arose on the MayanFamilies website during a campaign for school sponsorships, I noticed he was the only child who had not been selected . This hurt my heart, for I knew that he knew that the only way his life would be better than it is now would be be through having an education. We received a picture of him with a Thank You letter once he received word that he was again sponsored (the day school started). Above are pictures of him receiving a gift of food and with his report cards!

I am so excited (at 2:24 am)! I think I finally have the checkout page working at the Simplyloveguatemala store page. I am going to send out the link to the store (you can click in the sidebar), so everyone, please let me know if you have issues with Paypal! I have had issues all day with my carts not working!

These shirts are available for pre-order at this time. I hope to have them to you within three weeks. From that point on, I should have most sizes and colors on hand and the turn around time will be less than two weeks. I also will have hats and other items soon!

I still have some cosmetic changes to make, but I will work on those when I am less tired.

This is one of my sponsored students. She is in preschool. Lizbeth lives in Panajachel with her father Eduardo, 35 years old and her mother Patricia, 30 yeas old. Lizbeth has 3 brothers. Her father works as a day laborer and makes $28 USD per week. He never went to school and he does not know how to read or write. He does not give a lot of money to the mother for food and expenses. He is an alcoholic and spends most of his money in alcohol.

Patricia, the mother, studied until 6th grade. She cleans houses and makes $28 USD per week. The money that she makes is not enough to cover all the family's expenses. They have very little clothing and it is in bad shape.

They own the house the live in. They have only one room and they also cook in this room. It is made of wooden planks, tin sheeting roof and it has a cement floor.
They do have an Onil stove. The mother cooks on top of some cement blocks.
They have a water filter, received in the end of 2007, so they need the replacement filter parts. They have a pila. They have chairs, but need more. They have tables.
They do not have armoires. They keep their clothes in cardboard boxes, and in a hope chest donated in 2010. They only have one bed and they all sleep on it. It is a handmade bed made by the father.
They have water connected and pay $1 USD per month.
They have electricity connected and pay $11 USD per month.

Hello all,

Thank you for visiting my site!

If you know me, you know I have always been one that wants to help others. Since adopting two children from Guatemala, I have had a passion to help the poor and fatherless; especially those in Guatemala. My family sponsors two children through the education program of Mayan Families, who operate in the town of Panajachel, Guatemala. The needs of this group are so great, as they serve many villages throughout the Lake Atitlan Region. Since the recent natural disasters of Guatemala, I have felt a stronger calling to get in gear and do something about my passion, rather than continue to talk about it. I have felt that with two young children and a full-time job here in Georgia, there was not too much I could do. I have been brainstorming ideas over the past two years on ways I can help from afar. I think I have found it!!

I will be selling T-shirts and hats for all shapes and sizes! This is going to be so much fun!! I will be designing the shirts over the next couple of weeks and will be setting up this site and an Etsy site so all of you can have ease of ordering.

My passion goes much further than education and feeding programs, but this is where I want to start. 100% of profits from the sale of these items will go to organizations that serve the poor and fatherless. I will update this site regularly with photos and video so you will see the progress we are making in feeding and educating the needy and afflicted.

Hopefully, I will be able to grow this passion and eventually raise enough continuous funds to drill water wells in regions of Guatemala where disease runs rampant and people die from illnesses caused from contaminated drinking water.

My vision for this passion is to improve the health and vitality of the needy and afflicted by providing funds for food, clean water, education and well drilling.
