Krispy Kreme - Ayala is a new home for Cebuano KK aficionados

Krispy Kreme Phils.' 24th Branch and the 1st outside Luzon was unveiled yesterday morning.

"We're pleased and proud to unveil the very first Krispy Kreme branch in Cebu", begins Mark Gamboa, Marketing Manager for Krispy Kreme Philippines. "More importantly, Krispy Kreme's very excited for having the opportunity to finally respond to the growing clamor for the brand in Cebu."

"The Cebu opening marks several milestones for the brand," shares Gamboa. "Aside from it being the brand's pioneer nationwide footprint and its store outside Luzon, it's also our first store in Cebu, and our 25th store in the Country--all in time to celebrate half a decade of being in the country."

On Saturday morning, a bunch of Kispy Kreme fanatics converged to witness as the Krispy Kreme Top Management uncovered their new store. The Krispy Kreme tradition continues as the 1st 100 customers lined up in front of the store, some was already there since Friday afternoon as early as 5:00pm camping at the Ayala terraces while waiting for the store opening at 10:00am Saturday. Originally, a young boy had the 1st spot followed by an old lady. However, the lady got the 1st spot since the young boy was later disqualified when it was discovered that the he was just a proxy of his Filipino-Chinese Boss. That old lady from Ormoc City, Anna Liza Caeng, will receive a one year supply of Original Glazed doughnut and KK Signature Coffee.

As soon as the green ribbon was cut, the 100 customers in line had the 1st purchase of Krispy Kreme doughnuts not in High Street nor SM Mall of Asia but finally in Cebu. The 150sq.m Krispy Kreme Ayala Center branch wasn't enough to cater hundreds of Cebuanos patiently waiting outside the store to taste what they've long been waited for.

The 2nd Krispy Kreme Cebu branch followed its opening at 5:00pm that day. This is exactly located at GF Asia Premiere Residences, IT Park. Krispy Kreme IT Park is said to be their Cebu's Factory Store that has an area of 250sq.m. We will also be expecting to have their 3rd branch in Cebu after 3 months.

The Eduardo J. Aboitiz Cancer Center of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) organized 8th annual "Moonwalk: A Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness" today, October 18, 2011. Assembly area is beside Pag-Ibig Fund Tower in Cebu Business Park at 5:00pm. The walk starts at 5:30pm to The Walk in Asiatown IT Park, passing by Archbishop Reyes Ave.

Everyone is encouraged to participate in support for the victims of Breast Cancer Victims and to help other women to be aware of the importance of early cancer detection and prevention. RAFI to hold Moonwalk for breast cancer awareness on Oct. 18

In observance of Breast Awareness Month in October, the Eduardo J. Aboitiz Cancer Center (EJACC) of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) will hold the 8^th annual “Moonwalk: A Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness” under the full moon on Oct. 18.

“Since Oct. 12 is a weekday, we would like to inform the public of a possible traffic congestion that might happen on that day from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.,” Ronald delos Reyes, program coordinator of EJACC, said.

The Moonwalk will assemble an estimated 3,000 people on the lot beside Pag-Ibig Fund Tower in Cebu Business Park at 5 p.m.

At 5:30 p.m., they will walk to The Walk in Asiatown I.T. Park, passing by Archbishop Reyes Avenue (please see illustrated route map). At the Asiatown I.T. Park, participants will form a pink human ribbon. A short program and Pink Rock Concert will follow.

Moonwalk is open to the public. Participants are encouraged to wear pink shirts.

Moonwalk, a unique advocacy campaign of RAFI held every full moon of October, aims to promote the importance of observing monthly breast self-examination for women aged 20 and beyond.

It is also a campaign of RAFI to get more people to be aware on the importance of early cancer detection and prevention. At the same time, it is a tribute to the victims and survivors of breast cancer.

Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among Cebuano women, based on the Cebu population-based Cancer Registry of RAFI.

From 1993 to 2007, Eduardo J. Aboitiz Cancer Center (EJACC) of RAFI recorded a total of 3,005 reported breast cancer cases in Metro Cebu. EJACC found a continuous increase of breast cancer incidence in Metro Cebu over the past 10 years, caused by lifestyle and health-related factors.

“Most of the participants are cancer patients, women from the barangays, and the youth. We encourage everyone, from all walks of life, to join us in this year’s Moonwalk,” delos Reyes said.

Moonwalk is organized in collaboration with The Walk and in coordination with Ayala Center Cebu and I CAN SERVE. It is supported by the Cebu City Government, Department of Health Region 7, Asiatown I.T. Park, Cebu Business Park, Allied Banking Corporation, Phillipine National Bank, Cebu Praedia Development Corporation, Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente, KAHAYAG Network of Cancer Support Group, and Destiny Medical Fund, Inc.

Moonwalk is an initiative of EJACC under the Integrated Development focus area of RAFI, addressing health issues of communities in order to create a better quality of life.

Aboitiz Race 2 Reduce Challenge 2011

The 2011 Race to Reduce Challenge: A Race for the Next Gen-Visayas Leg scheduled on August 14 in Cebu City will be bigger, with more runners expected to join as it now features a 42K full marathon. The other categories are 3K, 5K, 10K and 21K.

The race will kick off at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC), North Reclamation Area, with assembly time at 3 a.m. and the starting gun firing off at 4 a.m.

Now on its second year, the run organized by Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Inc. (AEV) in partnership with the Cebu Provincial Government will be one of the highlights of the One Cebu Expo, the Capitol’s month-long celebration of the Province’s 442nd Founding Anniversary on August 6.

As in the first race last year, timing chips will be used by runners in the 10K, 21K and 42K divisions to provide accurate, instantaneous results. For those running in the 5K, they will have to use timing chips if they want to compete for the top awards in that category.

Race to Reduce Challenge 2011 will be happening on 14th of August at Cebu International Convention Center (CICC), North Reclamation Area. Registration is until August 5. Founded on the heart's day of the year 2008, Cebu Bloggers Society has reached its 3rd year of presence as the premiere blogging community in Cebu. The group has significantly grow from a simple Online Group to an Organization. The Cebu Bloggers Society started as a Yahoo Group and became a SEC-registered non-profit organization (CBSI) which aims to promote Cebu through blogs.

Cebu Bloggers Society Inc. is never just about blogging. Aside from building friendship, we also build ourselves. Joining this group improved my skills, increased self-esteem and build a connection to the community. With CBSi, I got the chance to serve the community in my own little way thru CBSi Outreach Programs. Giving little donations for fire victims (Umapad and Duljo Fatima), teaching school children in Pinamungajan, and even making Colon St. a campaign poster-free after the 2010 National Election. These are just some of the instances that Cebu Bloggers Society Inc. extended their hands outside the Blogosphere to reach out the community and serve.

We have now reached another year! Another wardrobe malfunction scandal circulated across the web, this time it's Karylle. Karylle wardrobe malfunction incident took place on the month of March during their taping of ASAP XV at Boracay in which at that time Anne Curtis had suffered the same mishap. Karylle wardrobe malfunction photos and videos, as expected, have been spread already throughout the internet before they could have plead to stop it.

More and more people have been uploading such photos and videos on their blogs and websites while ignoring the fact they've deeply hurt somebody. We cannot also blame them since a lot more people are eager to see those photos. And, of course website administrators will take advantage on this since we could not deny that it would really drive a fairly high traffic to websites. However, this should serve as a learning experience for all artists. You can avoid it and we know that.

Philippine's 2010 Automated Election

PoliticalArena.com had a meet up with Cebu Bloggers' Society together with COMELEC officials and Smartmatic-TIM at Neo-Neo Grill House-Mabolo.

This was part of their campaign to educate the people in the Philippine's "2010 Automated Election". Automated they'd say but actually the counting process only which would undergo automation, however, it will significantly improve the whole Election Process.

Ms. Racquel Cagurangan, General Manager of PoliticalArena.com talked about the site:

It is the country’s first socio-political networking site, developed to promote awareness and interactivity in the local political scene. It provides users with a common platform to access information about candidates and, at the same time, offers candidates with a venue to disseminate information to the public, real time.

Ms. Maan Tolentino also made a short review on COMELEC's voter education websites' www.bagongbotante.ph and www.ibanangayon.ph Miguel Avila of Smartmatic-TIM showed to us the PCOS (Precinct Count Optical Scan) machine and demonstrated the new Voting Process for 2010 Automated Election to Cebu Bloggers Society.

Here's how the New Election System works:

Step 1: Proceed to your respective precincts where you are listed.

Step 2: Present yourself to the Board of Election Inspectors (BEI) to get a ballot. Then Listen to the BEI's instructions on how to properly fill up the ballot.

Step 3: Receive the ballot and make sure it is empty or unmarked on both sides. Be sure as well to check that what you have is the correct ballot for your precinct. Keep in mind that ballots are precinct-specific.

Step 4: Fill up your ballot by shading in the ovals (not check, X or half or line) next to the names of the candidates you want to vote for.

Some position will require you to choose more than one candidate, so read the instructions carefully!

Step 5: Insert your ballot into the counting machine. It doesn’t matter if you insert the ballot bottom first or upside down. Wait as well for the confirmation message on the machine screen. Then, go back to BEI (Board of Election Inspectors)to return the pen and have an indelible ink on your finger for proof of voting.

*There will be some instances that machines are unable to scan the ballot, in this case just pull it out then refeed.*

Step 6: At the end of the process, the voting machine will count all the votes cast and BEI will print 30 copies of the election returns (ERs).

Step 7: And within one hour after the printing copies of elections returns (ERs), precinct results will be electronically transmitted to five entities. It will be connected to a network for 5 minutes for transferring of ER copy for City or Municipal Board of Canvassers (CBOC/MBOC), Dominant Majority Party, Dominant Minority Party, COMELEC's Accredited Citizens Arm (PPCRV), and Kapisanan ng mga Broadcasters sa Pilipinas (KBP). The ERs will also be sent to COMELEC Central Back-up Server. The 30 printed copies will be distributed to CBOC/MBOC (1), Congress(1), COMELEC (1), Dominant Majority Party (1), Dominant Minority Party (1), Accredited Citizens Arm (PPCRV) (1), Ballot Box (1), Provincial Board of Canvassers (1), Ten (10) Accredited National Parties excluding Dominant Majority Party and Dominant Minority Party, Two (2) Accredited Local Parties, National Broadcast or Print Media Entities (4), 2 Local Broadcast or print media entities (2), Major Citizen's Arms, including PPCRV and other non-partisan groups enlisted by COMELEC.

Step 8: Canvassing of Votes by involved entities.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS so that your votes will not be wasted:

1. DO NOT OVER-VOTE! If you vote for more than the maximum number allowed, your votes for that position will be INVALIDATED.

2. SHADE PROPERLY! There is a big possibility that your vote MAY NOT BE COUNTED if ovals are not properly shaded since votes will be counted through an Optical Scanner which is sensitive. Anyway, shading is a lot easier than writing the names of your bets, so there's no reason why we cannot do it the proper way.

Below are the Basic Info. and Features of the New Voting System:

-There are 76,000 clustered precincts nationwide.

-PCOS machines and Ballots are precinct specific, which means PCOS machines would only work to designated precincts and so as Ballots.

- Barcodes on Ballots. Ballots are bar code protected. This will guard against duplication.

- Ultraviolet (UV) Ink. Pen to be used contains ultraviolet ink which the machine detects to determine its genuineness.

- 5-minute Data Transmission to the Main Stream and to COMELEC Back-up Server. This would mean less vulnerable to hacking since the shorter the transmission time the secure the data transmitted.

- 128-Bit Encryption Algorithm. It means 1x10³⁶ combinations need to be decode to hack the system during data transmission.

- For far-flung areas which do not have network signals, a BGAN (Broadband Global Area Network) will be used.

- A 16-hr battery will be provided enough to sustain until the last voter, this is specially for areas with no electricity and/or during incident of brownouts.

Last November 30, 2009 - After an eat-all-you-want scenario during the "Asia-in-a-Basket", a food bloggers event prepared by SM Foodcourt Management and tenants, we then headed to SM Cinema 1 to relax and enjoy listening local music. I seldom travel because of the busy work schedule. But hey, Christmas is coming!! I can feel it. It's gonna be my chance now to escaped away from office barriers. These are only few of disheartening scenarios happened due to drastic Typhoon "Ondoy". Lots of Filipino people are really in dire need of our help. They are now in great despair, living hopelessly and despondently. Let us let them feel that there is still hope. Let us share just a little thing of what we have. We are fortunate enough that we still have houses to live in, clothes to wear and food to eat, but how about them? Can we just take them for granted, and leave them in agony?
