I thought as soon as I hit the “submit” button, something epic would happen. No confetti falling from the roof. No old man ringing my doorbell with a big ass check worth a million dollars. No theme music. I couldn’t even get “Eye of the Tiger” playing on someones ringtone.

As happy as I am to finally be able to say “I just paid for my last class to get my degree”, I’m not as ecstatic as I thought I would be. It could be possible because I’ve been so busy doing homework all semester, I’m not allowed to get excited about school whatsoever.

Maybe it’s because it took me entirely too long to get my associates degree. It’s taken me 3 years too long to get it. I’ve went to three different schools pursuing this fucking thing.

Perhaps it’s the fact that once I graduate, I know that I’ll have MORE school. This time at a university which is far more expensive. Being able to go to a school that’s cheap enough to pay out of pocket has been a blessing. The horror stories I’ve heard about loans makes not even want a credit card.

Or maybe it’s the fact that I’m getting a degree for something I want absolutely no parts of. I’ve changed my major a good three times only to settle on Computer Networking just so I could get the fuck out. I actually hate computers now (thanks to school). The moment I can change it at my future university, best believe I will.

Whatever it is that’s holding back my excitement, I hope it leaves soon…

Over the years I’ve noticed how being infamous is claiming fame across the land quicker than showing love. Folks want haters, when in actuality if you had real haters you’d fear for your life. Do you remember the fear in Biggie’s voice in some of his last interviews? Or the urgency in Tupac’s voice when he felt hunted? It’s a tricky game the new youth choose with becoming infamous.

The code of being loyal to a positive idea is frowned upon. Being humble is “sucka shit”. Arrogance and being able to bully a situation is “taking what’s yours”. Barbaric ways are praised. Persuasion through realistic ideas are looked at as surrendering. I’m perplexed at everything ciphering around me. About two weeks ago a few gang members exchanged words on twitter. The peanut gallery cheered it on and retweeted each other hoping for a show… One man was left dead laying in the chalk later that night. You can’t feed a hungry ego. That’s blood for the sharks.

VH1 and various documentaries teamed up with reality tv shows to display characters that have mental issues with being indifferent. Give a fame hungry person a camera and an audience and you’ll have pop culture genocide. The plan to take the attention off everything else in the world and refocus it on people who have no self control is the greatest brainwash the industry ever came up with.

The pics from Occupy Oakland and other Occupy sites look like a war. Here’s the problem. There’s people that want change down there. Genuinely trying to protest peacefully. And there’s people down there that want a name. If peace doesn’t seem the fit way to go about making change, they instigate the riot. Yeah the cops play a violent part. It’s fuck the police 24/7 365 over here. But know when you’re in a terror zone trying to have sweet dreams isn’t likely. They plot on the idea that they make it out alive with a story and a book deal. The thought process is backwards.

I spoke to my man who’s serving a 15yr stint. He told me “Being infamous is like being praised for all the wrong reasons like the devil. And if you think you can ever shake the karma with that you’re dead wrong.” We grew up together and I always remember him being wise beyond his years but too persuaded by the attention that comes with being in control of the wrong crowd. The one thing I saw in his ways and majority of black america that’s influenced by the idea of being infamous is the number chase. Whether it be money, followers, ratings & acceptance.

I was under the influence a time or two before. I’m no saint. I’m the intellectual villain who watches all the looters in the riot. If it all possible, more need to adopt the mind state of giving up a lesser evil to plot on a greater prize. I took all my instances in life and painted the picture for the masses to learn from.

You have Soulja Boy and there’s Kendrick Lamar. On one hand you have Soulja who found himself in a downward spiral with a suffering career. What’d he do? He sought out Kat Stacks, started sniffing cocaine, and made a diss track saying “Fuck the U.S. Troops.” He was no longer the famous kid who had everyone doing the Superman. Under the pressure of the drug called fame, he took the infamous plight. Then you haveKendrick Lamar. Pigeon holed by his record company to release a album with more radio friendly hits. He went against the machine and released “Overly Dedicated” free for the masses over twitter. Earning a buzz within the people that was monumental in his success. A year later he graced the people with the classic “Section.80”

Black America is at a cross road that we’ve never seen before. There’s powerful black executives and role models in each industry that can control the rights and lefts the young are influenced to take. The people have more of voice now than anytime in history, with the power of social networking. It’s controlled anarchy every waking moment. A.D.D. is rampant in the community. People are losing focus and looking for heroes in figures that should never even be considered. It’s the blind leading the blind.

We need to find a new fad….
