Upgrade of Northern Datacenter

We have upgraded the datacenter as below

1. To cope with the additional heat load in the facility, we have just added an additional 26 tons of cooling capacity. This brings the total cooling capacity to 60 tons. This should be more than sufficient to deal with the higher heat loads of today’s blade servers.

2. Complete replacement of all batteries for both UPS-A and UPS-B has been completed. The new batteries have a design life of 10 years. All tests have been completed without any faults. The system is now back to N+1 fault tolerance for power

3. A major service of our generator has also been completed.

We would like to thank our customers for their patience over the last couple of months. We are working hard to improve the facility as we move forward to better serve you.

Winmail.DAT issue

If you receive an email, but the email extension is named winmail.dat, the issue lies with the sender. The sender using Outlook to send and sending using HTML format instead of Plain Text will result in such extensions. You can ask the user to resend the email as Plain Text and that will solve the issue.

Data is valuable

I have seen a lot of companies suffering huge losses because of hard disk crashes and all their data gone. Have heard of companies closing as a result of this. It is now very convenient to backup your data to USB thumb drive etc. It won’t take long but it will be extremely useful should a hard disk crash.

Given that prices of hard disks has decrease exponentially, for normal consumer hard disk, we are looking at 1 year warranty instead of 5 years. Do not let one single hard disk crash destroy your company or life. Data is one of the most previous asset of a company even though it is often an intangible.
