Most of their songs are truly inspirational and one of a kind. The craft of their songwriting is indeed amazing and it really helped me in my lyrics writing as well as in learning how to write a song from scratch that can make a difference.

My first on the list is

1. Brooke Fraser 

Brooke Gabrielle Fraser, better known as simply Brooke Fraser (born 15 December 1983) is a New Zealand award-winning folk-pop musician. Her third studio album Flags has become the most successful album of her career, with the single “Something in the Water” reaching number one on the RIANZ singles chart in 2010.

Fraser wrote the songs in bursts, making writing trips to the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina and Northern California’s Bodega Bay before she and her husband decamped from their home in Sydney, Australia, to Los Angeles in February 2010. Once in L.A., Fraser invited a group of local musicians, including guitarists Michael Chaves and David Levita (who played onAlbertine), to join her in the studio where they set Fraser’s powerful stories to exquisitely textured backdrops of acoustic and electric guitars, bass, drums, piano, strings, horns and wild percussion often played on the body parts of Brooke and the band themselves— creating an earthy, organic feel to the proceedings. The album was engineered and mixed by Joe Zook and produced by Fraser herself.

2. Darlene Zschech

Darlene Zschech is an Australian Pentecostal worship leader and singer-songwriter who primarily writes praise and worship songs. She is the former worship pastor of Hillsong Church and is currently a member of Compassionart, a charity founded by Martin Smith.

I always love her songs. They are so powerful and could really touch your heart. For me, she is just an amazing singer songwriter. Because of her, I am inspired to learn how to write a song or should I say, inspired to learn how to write lyrics to a song. I’m a HUGE fan of hers because not only she is a great singer songwriter but she is also a Pastor. Truly, she is one of a kind.

3. Miriam Webster

My last final pick is Miriam Webster, who is an Australian gospel, contemporary singer-songwriter.

She just released her solo album “Made Me Glad” which incredibly inspired most of songwriting. I love her voice, so deep and toned. I’m also amazed with all the lyrics writing she puts in her music.

I always sing her songs anywhere. It has been my last song syndrome ever and will forever be. Aside from “Made Me Glad”, she also written songs like “Angel of The Lord“, “Draw Near”, “Loving Kindness”, “Praise Him”, “Draw Near”, “Peace”, “Marvelous” and “Greater”.

Keith Gordon Green (October 21, 1953 – July 28, 1982)  was an American gospel singer songwriter, musician, and Contemporary Christian Music artist originally from Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, New York. Beyond his music, Green is best known for his strong devotion to Christianevangelism and challenging others to the same. Often considered controversial for his frequently confrontational lyrics and spoken messages, some notable songs written by Green and/or his wife, Melody Green, include “Your Love Broke Through,” “You Put This Love In My Heart,” and “Asleep In The Light.” Green is also known for numerous popular modern hymns, including “O Lord, You’re Beautiful” and “There Is A Redeemer.”

He was regarded as the singing prophet.

If you want to learn how to add raw emotion, depth and a element of irritation with the status quo, then Keith Green is the artist for you.  He tragically died in a plane crash in 1982, but his music continues to influence many to this day.  He did his work from the piano and he poured it all out when he played.   “Oh Lord, You’re Beautiful” can always pull me in and become a song straight from my own heart.  Get his anthology and get challenged both musically and personally.

The Greatest Hits

Keith Green’s career was quite brief so I think it would be better to simply re-release ‘The Ministry Years’ CDs as they contained all his songs…after all you can fit all his studio recordings on 4 CDs. ‘Greatest Hits’ albums rarely please everyone because of what they omit. ‘When I Hear The Praises Start’ should have been included but hey that’s my opinion. It’s Keith at the end of the day – passionate, brilliant, moving and inspiring so I have to give it 5 stars. After all…he was the greatest CCM singer/songwriter ever — Sonia Frances

You never heard of Keith Green? Well, then you’ve never experienced the most passionate musician for Christ that there ever was. His piano playing and heartfelt vocals were as fervent as anyone in rock and roll, let alone Christian music. His songs basically taught me how to be a Christian, much like learning to sing the ABC’s taught me the alphabet

Songs For The Shepherd

There isn’t a dud on here, but the ones that shine the most for me include his rendition of the 23rd psalm (still my fav of all versions of this most beloved of psalms). A friend of mine from my previous church, the pianist/music teacher, used to play this when we got together for fellowship, her on piano and me singing, and it’s still just the most beautiful adaptation in popular music of “The Lord Is My Shepherd.” Keith’s vocals are full of emotion and true spiritual fervor and faith. Astonishing. 

Wanna Go Back To Egypt

Green is not the most versatile musician with enormous breath in style. However, what he lacks in scope he makes up for in spades when it comes to his relevancy to most Christians…

A song that inspired me most in my songwriting and even learning how to write lyrics to a song is this:

Is an American Christian Contemporary Music artist, worship leader, songwriter, from Grand Saline, Texas, United States. He is a former staff member at Austin Stone Community Church and is signed to EMI‘s sixstepsrecords. Tomlin also leads worship at many Passion events. Some of his most well-known songs are “How Great Is Our God”, “Jesus Messiah”, “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)”, and the recent song “Our God” which he co-wrote with Matt Redman, Jesse Reeves and Jonas Myrin. He is currently a lead worshipper at Passion City Church in Atlanta, Georgia with Louie Giglio and Christy Nockels…

He just writes and writes and write lyrics.  I’m so influenced by him simply because I find it so easy to play his songs.  Between him and the vast array of co-writers like Jesse Reeves etc they have churned out so many great songs.  It is good to learn what works in his songs.  If I want to write a song which is going to catch on with lots of people and be easy to sing along with I need to take some notes from Chris Tomlin.  I am always challenged to think through my choruses and make sure the really carry the song and are something people can’t help but want to sing out loud with passion.

 Like with Tommy Walker, Chris Tomlin songs are easy to make my own.  They work in so many different arrangements.  You can always add more and more production to a song in the studio, but how does my song work with just me, my guitar and a home group?  If it can catch on quickly there, then I’m getting closer to writing like Chris Tomlin.

TOMMY WALKER

Tommy has led worship at Christian Assembly in Los Angeles, California with his pastor, Mark Pickerill, since 1990. He has traveled with Promise Keepers, Greg Laurie Harvest Crusades and Franklin Graham.

He has also been privileged to serve with such church leaders as Jack Hayford, Bill Hybels and Rick Warren. He has recorded worship projects for Maranatha! Music, Integrity Music, and Get Down Ministries.

He has written over 100 songs that are currently being tracked by CCLI and are being sung in churches around the world, including “He Knows My Name,” “Only A God Like You,” “That’s Why We Praise Him,” “Lord I Believe In You,” “Mourning Into Dancing,” “Break Through,” “We Will Remember,” and “I Have a Hope.”

He wrote songs (and continues to do so) that are simple in their core, deeply grounded in a biblical and pastoral foundation, but can go in so many directions. I can’t play guitar like Tommy, but I can play his songs and every time I do, I grow as a musician and a Christian.
