As we launch into our second season of Single Momm Radio, Jennifer and I are turning the show over to you.

Starting with this show and continuing throughout the year, the entire episode will be focused specifically on answering your real-life questions – questions about spirituality, finances, parenting, self-care,  even dating and relationships.

Single Momm Radio is a safe place for real, practical answers. 

At the beginning of each new year, we all have wonderful thoughts and ideas as to what we’re capable of, if we put our minds to it. However, we also know how, after a few weeks, it’s easy to slip back into the same old status quo pattern.

When she thinks back to the confused, exhausted, single mom she was 16 years, scenes from an imagined America’s Most Wanted episode flash through her mind as she sometimes still wonders – Was that really me?

Doing what any mother would have done to best protect her self and her infant, with no more than $100 in her pocket and the clothes on her back, she checked into a local shelter and readied herself to begin the journey back to the woman she once was.

While she wasn’t a believer at the time, God brought people and situations into her life that helped her start to see things differently and, over time, which greater clarity.

She remembers the moment she turned her own spiritual corner – The pastor said “failure is not getting knocked down, it’s not getting back up”. For her, that’s all it took.

As miracles filled the air, tears, mixed with gratitude and joy, streaked the faces of moms, staff members, volunteers and children, at this year’s Single Momm Christmas celebration.

In preparation for the 4th. annual event, the community and donors rallied together and the kids were given $20 gift cards and turned loose in area department stores with only one guideline, “Use it to buy your mom whatever you want.”

As you can imagine, the emotion and spiritual awakening that took place, during the gift-giving exchange, blessed everyone who was there.

Jennifer, the mom behind the movement, tells us how it went down.

Also on the show – One of the moms shares a game-changer breakthrough, she’s experienced in her own journey. She realized that by using her own story as a weapon to keep people away from her, she was promoting “the dark side”.

Lynn never realized she would learn so much about prayer and faith from orphaned children in a distant land, on the other side of the world.

And, while her initial instinct was to not go, she found herself in India, surrounded by the very children that were praying for her and the miracle they so desperately needed.

With nothing to lose and everything to gain, the orphans helped her understand that prayer should always be our first response.

Jennifer, (the mom behind the momentum) gives an inspiring account of a single mom who makes the decision to surrender to the tug that pulls on her heart and to receive the anointing that God has been trying to give her.

And, by the woman’s willingness to be faithful and obedient, she was able to be a lamp to and shine through the spirits of orphaned children.

When she entered into her first marriage, she took with her the goodwill, the passion and the desire to create a healthy, happy home. Unfortunately, because of past programming and misunderstandings experienced earlier in life, the Covenant of matrimony turned into misguided efforts of form and function.

And, while the want-to was strong in her mind and well established in her spirit, the skills and the know-how she needed to make it work, were  absent and unavailable.

Julie, one of the board members that sits alongside Jennifer and helps guide Single Momm, joins us on today’s show and shares how her childhood and early teen-year conditioning, created hidden traps which set her up for a marital fall.

She also shares how she was able to walk through the pain and to use her experiences as the fuel that would propel her to create her own solution – Heart Skills.

Today, Single Momm Radio turns a very beautiful corner.

Jennifer (the mom behind the movement) and I are beginning to bring back single moms to the show, to get a updates on their journey and to celebrate with them, as they continue to walk in healing and liberation.

With the spirit of grace dancing in her soul, Dani from Traverse City, returns to the studio to tell us about two women – the woman who acted out of a place of brokenness and pain and the woman who forgave herself, as well as those who had wronged her.

Dani also shares with us a powerful and purposeful act, way out of her comfort zone, which brought her to a place of release and peace – she took her girlfriend through a physical journey of the places, situations and events that had prevented her from realizing God’s love and truth.

Here is some of what she’s learned:

• Separated from God, she could easily slide back into abusive and addictive behaviors;
• She doesn’t have to raise her son in the way that was modeled for her;
• Resentment and anger do not give power, they take it away;
• True power comes from forgiveness; and
• How to surrender at a level deeper than she knew possible.

On the show: Jennifer’s husband JP, joins the conversation, as we unpack the disguised-realness of patterns and how they can block the path to healing, harmony and wholeness.

Paraphrasing Jennifer – Bad patterns distance us from God and damage our contribution.

A pastor challenged Jennifer, as she grieved through her recovery from abandonment and divorce. And, while he put the lion’s share of the relationship’s falling-apart on her ex-husband’s shoulders, he still leveled some amount of responsibility on Jennifer.

The stinging conversation did at least two things:

1. It revealed her enabling participation;
2. It exposed a game of blame, she could no longer ignore.

On the show: While scaling a mountain over Easter weekend, Jennifer wandered into a story that would forever change the chapters that are yet to come.

Abandoned by her husband, she had no idea which way to turn. And, why would she? Up until the day he left, she built her life around promises that would no longer be kept and stability that was now turned upside-down.

Doing the best she could, to keep the heads of her family above water, she quickly learned that available resources for single moms were unorganized, scattered, and elusive.

Jennifer formed Single Momm as an answer not only to her challenges, but also to the challenges stacked against single moms, the world over.

As the ministry gets ready to launch into its next phase of growth and development, its core purpose holds steady and true –helping single moms discover their worth and value through real community.

After the birth of her only child, because of circumstances that neither she nor her husband fully understood, she made a decision that, at the time, seemed to be the best of all available solutions – to leave the father and find a replacement.

And, when she did re-marry, the emptiness she carried from the family that could have been, drained the life out of this new marriage, she later learned, was simply a fill-in.

Full of pride (her own words), but emotionally fragile, Meagan experienced a wide range of poisonous feelings that were eating her from the inside-out: resentment, hatred, bitterness.

It wasn’t until she reached a place of complete brokenness that she realized she could no longer afford to fight the war she spent years waging.

With an amazing story of emotional surrender, Meagan, in Traverse City,  shares her spiritual turn-around.

With very little wiggle room, the pastor, in whom she confided, cracked open a very narrow window of opportunity, in which she  planed her escape.

And, with the help of the Pastor & his Wife, she loaded her six children, one unborn baby, and herself onto a plane, that would transport her from oppression and abuse to a new life; one where she could fully express her gifts, creativity, and soul.

Roberta, now from Traverse City, Michigan, the proud mother of nine, joins us on today’s show, to share how her last-ditch effort to flee, turned into the journey, that led  to healing, harmony, and hope.

It’s been a little longer than half a year, since Jennifer and I decided to put together the Single Momm show.

To say the least, we are amazed and humbled, as ladies make the choice, not only to come on the show, but also to share the most intimate details of their struggles and stories.

I think one of the reasons for their willingness to put themselves in a potentially vulnerable position, is because the moms we serve sense that freedom and liberty is available, close and just a conversation away.

Jennifer and I reflect on some of the stories, insights, and lessons learned, over the last six months.

Determined to live life differently than the way her mother did, she was committed to the nots of life: I will not be poor; I will not rifle through five marriages; I will not make a complete mess of things.

Unfortunately for her, the tendency to focus on the negatives, worked to magnify and exaggerate the exact opposite of what she wanted.

And, while the marital relationship disappeared long before the marriage dissolved, she found herself recovering from a wound that required healing, that was, at the time, out of reach and unavailable.

Jen, in Michigan, joins us on this edition of Single Momm Radio. She shares how a chance encounter, with the least likely of suspects, led to a Heavenly connection that would bring her spiritual unrest, to completion.

To protect herself emotionally, she did the best she knew how – she  distracted herself with the challenges, wants, and urgencies of everyone else.

And, (with the best of intentions), while she tried to take on every problem-solving role she could get herself into, she later realized that the busyness she involved herself in, was preventing God, from getting into her.

Weary from the struggle she now had to take her three sons through alone, she reached a point where she could no longer tack her identity on the needs and expectations of others. The time had come for her to make a life-changing decision; rely on her own strength, or wait upon the Lord to execute His.

As you might imagine, this decision-making test, tested everything that was within her.

Bridget joins us on the show and shares what she learned about herself, her Creator, and their relationship together.

One of the first questions I asked Jennifer was how she and the other ladies at Single Momm are able to quickly create a safe space for moms to open up and begin the healing and restoration process.

Her answer spoke volumes – We lead through our own brokenness.

Although divorce was uncommon in her family, she found herself married to a man who demanded it.

And, while her beliefs and values gave her the strength to stand for what she knew was right, without the agreement and mutual support she needed, she stood alone.

One of the main reasons Laura decided to sit in on today’s show with Jennifer and I is  because of a deeply-rooted belief; a belief in the value and worth of testimony. (See Rev 12:11)

As a single mother of one, she’s learned to lean heavily on the Truth that will not let her fall and by setting that example, her 11 year-old daughter, understood what it meant to lean in with her.

While many of us have heard eye-opening statistics about the challenges single parents have to face and the elevated risk factors children now have to grapple with, we don’t always hear about what is being done about it.

As the reality for Single Momm became clear and understood: moms are bringing their kids,  30-70 of them per event; it became quickly obvious that the Ministry needed to provide programs and activities geared toward the younger crowd.

Today, she is considered one of the leading authorities on single parent issues. She has helped start single mom support groups all over the wold with The Life of a Single Mom Ministries.

Sometimes God gets your attention in subtle, soft ways. Other times, He may allow (or cause) your entire foundation to quake.

For this mom, it was very much the latter.

During the fall of 2005, the “perfect family” image she was trying to lead people to believe she had, crumbled from beneath her feet and the mother of two found herself quickly scrambling to keep the lights on and to make ends meet.

Unprepared and ill-equipped for the challenges she now had to face, she did what anyone would do; whatever it took.

In the three years it took for Jennifer to regain traction, she saw a wide gap in available single-parenting resources and healthy fellowship opportunities.

Tired (from wrestling with God) and energized (by the possibilities), in 2008, she decided to move on what He was revealing to her and take action. The ministry – Single Momm: Real Moms – Real Lives – Real Community.
