When you setup your blog there a few standard tasks that you should always do.

After optimising your settings the next thing is to install your plugins, unfortunately this can be a very tedious process but thankfully the video below shows you a way to automate this mundane task.

Unfortunately you will still have to personalise each of the plugins but when you have a file containing these settings then this tasks becomes simple and available to be outsourced. If this interests you then my process maps containing this file is available here…business process maps

Which of course leaves you to focus on the tasks that excite you.

This is a really useful plugin in that allows non English readers to enjoy your blog in their natural language.

It has a few settings and of these I would stick to the following.

Use On Fly (jquery) as the translation method, I found that Google translate does not work correctly on my blackberry phone, the screen is heavily corrupted, however using On Fly the new language is displayed instantly, plus this option comes with a choice of nation flags.

Do a little research in Google Analytics and determine which countries your visitors are coming from, then set these countries as your defaults, a simple but nice touch…

Now a word of caution with this plugin, although it is a plugin, it will not work straight away. You need to setup your options, then copy the widget code into a text box in your side bar.

The remainder of this post is in Hindi, I have tested this and the plug in will not do a double translate from the menu, although you will be prompted with a pop up banner giving you the option to translate the post. This works on this mixed language post.

This Plugin will allow you to show a holding screen whilst you make changes to the layout of your blog. I have made a video that shows this in action as still photos would not really show it in action.

You can fully customise the message that appears on the screen and even add images and video to the screen if you so wish. Which actually could be a good idea if you knew the time you had allocated to the upgrade, simply pick a film that is a few minutes longer.

An update on this plugin, you can actually ad videos to the safety screen as well, thus you could actually drive traffic to this page and turn it into an event in itself.

A long stream of unformatted, unattractive and disengaging code that will most likely make people regret they ever asked for your feed.

Of course if they are using an RSS reader, such as FeedDemon, then they will only see this page once but as we both know first impressions last and could be the one thing that makes them change their mind.

Take a look at this RSS feed, this one looks more formatted, attractive and engaging than the default WordPress RSS feed we discussed above.

As you can see this now includes social proof, active links to the posts and highlights the ways to make reading this feed easier.

The solution for those that did not spot it in the image is the plugin for Google’s Feedburner service.

This allows you easily create beautiful RSS feeds with social proof and alternative delivery methods such as email built in.

I spent far too long dithering over whether to get this plugin or not as I already used the free version and could not see the benefit in paying just to combine a number of plugins. If there was a site load benefit then I would be interested but when Andy highlighted all of the other features I was sold and knew I had to get this plugin.

I do not regret making that decision

But what of the speed, did that improve?

I was  unable to measure the difference in load time fairly due to there being far too many factors that influence this. I do not have a private and dedicated Internet connection in my town for just my use thus other residents in this house street and across the world will all play a factor in that timing.

When you install this it will look for plugins that it is replacing and prompt you to remove these first, I had to remove Comment Luv, GASP and Twitter Link comments. In all you are getting 8 plugins in total, all interlinked intelligently which will ensure they all work with you rather than against.

On the Setting page there are dedicated settings pages for the most obvious features, Comment Luv; Twitter Link; GASP and Keyword Name. 3 others are built into these options of these setting pages which just leaves Top Commentators which is controlled via its Widget settings.

If you are worried about breaking your blog, rest easy as Andy has included a reset button on each page.

The actual settings pages are well explained and laid out. The Luv settings page goes into detail about who gets Do Follow love from your site and why, I recommend you add your personality into these messages to help make their visit to your blog that bit more unique.

One feature you should not overlook on this page is the Info Panel, this will become ever more important as Google’s author tag structure matures, with this area you can promote yourself on the sites you have left comments on. For this to work you will of course have to leave really compelling comments that make people want to know more about you but as this is what you should be doing anyway then that should not add any extra work into your blog commentating routine.

Twitter Link provides plenty of options when it comes to the layout of the Twitter link.

GASP complements rather than replaces Akismet but in here you get to choose some pretty sophisticated spam prevention techniques from number of comment URL’s to validation of  Trackback addresses. These are all presented in a manner that does not make your visitor feel like they are trying to enter Fort Knox.

Keyword Name allows commentators to gain more exposure for their target keywords as long as they play by your rules. The main one being that they must have previous approved comments, the number of which you can determine, I have mine set at 3 and will not approve comments if someone is comment storming as that is not natural.

Comment storming, leaving multiple short and useless comments on a number of your posts within seconds of each other.

Top commentators Widget is another way to reward people for leaving comments as they get featured in your sidebar with an image and link back to their site. An interesting use for this could be during events such as blog comment challenges, as you can set the count start and duration timings thus you could actually set this as a commenting treasure hunt if you have several blogs.

Ultimately to get the most out of Comment Luv Premium you will need to experiment with it and allow your imagination to run free amongst the settings bur first you need to secure your own copy of this fantastic plugin by clicking the image below.

This plug in is an absolute must have in your blogging arsenal and the best part is that it comes free. The key to getting your blog found organically, that is via the search engines, is by focussing on at least one site keyword and using this where ever you can.

All in One SEO is positioned below each post and enhances your blogs post performance by allowing you to tell Google what to index this post for.

There is of course much more to WordPress SEO but in the case of this pack and your blog performance lets cover a couple of items.

Firstly the post tile should contain your target keyword, if that is not possible, using it in each post will make you blog really dull! Then add it to the permalink for the post, this is what the spiders see and only the most astute readers will notice this.

With the post title adjusted to enhance your blog performance then it is time to take a look at the post content and this is where LSI comes into play. This stands for Latent Semantic Indexing, still not clear, well what this means in a nutshell is using phrases that would naturally occur in a conversation surrounding your target keyword.

If you have not already guessed, I am targeting the performance of my blog with the keyword blog performance, that last section was a good example of LSI in practice. Take your keywords and mix them into various phrases such that you are not constantly saying the same thing all the way through your post, like a bad summer pop song.

With the body text taken care of it is now the turn of the All in One SEO pack to enhance your blogs performance, you can insert the target keyword into this title as this is for the SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages). With the description try and summarise the post whilst getting your target keyword and its LSI equivalent into the paragraph.

Finally the keywords will include of course your target keyword, I always add my name and the title of the post. If you do not want to become an SEO expert then this plugin is a good halfway house for bloggers who wish to enhance the performance of their blog.
