Frank Prisinzano does it again- and this time it’s on the Lower East Side. Sauce is a great neighborhood spot serving up good homestyle Italian food in a casual, rustic environment fully stocked with a butcher on site and take-out window.

For the most part, the food is spot on and so are the prices. So it’s not a big deal that it’s cash only. It’s not the most comfortable dining experience because of spacing and volume of noise but the chandelier of silverware and open kitchen make up for it.

CHOW FAVES:

Meatballs and Italian Sausage- It’s all about the sauce!

Pecorino Kale- A well dressed salad!

Baked Farro Macaroni- Crispy and Cheesy…. but missing something- I couldn’t put my finger on it.

Pappardelle with Meat Ragu- Standard.

Tortellini in Sage Butter Sauce- A flawless dish filled with flavor.

Chicken Parm- Standard.

Kale Gnocchi- Every bite was just as good as the last.

Tarallucci e Vino

A diverse menu, great wine list and a low key vibe is what I experience every time I go to Tarallucci e Vino. It’s good for breakfast, lunch, brunch or dinner, and is centrally located in the heart of Union Square. The chef delivers a robust Italian menu made up of small and large plates filled with gems for every meal.

CHOW FAVES:

Scallops with Mushrooms, Egg Raviolo and Truffles- Delicious flavors and textures.

Sage Fritters with Anchovy and Mozzarella- Yummy fried tasty bites.

Branzino- Cooked to perfection.

Risotto with Quail and Porcini Mushrooms- Rich but solid.

Tagliatelle with Butter and Black Truffle- This is one of my favorite dishes on the menu. It’s just AMAZING.

Pasta with Duck Ragout- Standard.

The French Riviera In Chelsea: La Promenade Des Anglais

La Promenade des Anglais is a great addition to Chelsea. The Mediterranean-French bistro-style resto delivers on all levels- a creative menu, wonderful service, and fashionable decor. Dinner here is definitely reminiscent of an evening on the French Riviera. There’s a heavy presence of elegance and glossy style.

A cocktail at the bar is a must- even if it’s just to admire the design. The journey will continue from there once you’re seated and begin to feast on dishes with interesting blends and preparations.

CHOW FAVES:

Zucchini Flower Beignets- Couldn’t have been better…perfect crunchy bites!

Roasted Artichokes- Dressed in anchovy dressing…delicious!

Octopus A La Plancha- Tender….and the chorizo and chickpeas blended nicely.

Ratatouille Ravioli- Wonderful consistency of flavor.

Skate- Great execution.

Guanaja Chocolate Mousse- A terrific blend of goodness, especially the salted caramel and marshmallow combination.

A new Latin spot is on the scene and it resides in Tribeca. And you know it doesn’t end with the main dining room, there’s a lounge downstairs to keep the good vibes and libations flowing. I wouldn’t go here for a culinary experience…it’s more for a fun night out.

CHOW FAVES:

Ceviche Verde- The fluke was light and fresh.

Tostada do Esquites: Sweet corn, lime mayo and cotija cheese- It was love at first bite!

Red and Green Snapper- This was a massive plate of food with a disappointing side of fries. The snapper was pretty good.

Flatiron Steak- Standard.

Brussels Sprouts- Well seasoned… I was popping them like chips.

After spending a few glorious days in Cognac and Paris, we jetted off to Marrakech, Morocco.
