The question is whether I should start a new blog for Yes2Years, or just rename this one?

The blog that comes with my indiemade web page is limiting in the way of adding advertisements, affiliate links, and you can't beat this mobile app!

Since not likely to continue writing on this blog until I rename and link to yesYears.com .... May as well rename! (Nothing like being your own counsel! Sure get things done faster)

Coming Soon (after I file taxes and create my portfollio)... YES2YRS REVITALIZE!
While I KNOW it has been done before, but why not share what I love to do? I will begin to post my Thrift Store finds that REVITALIZE into refashioned costumes or wearable apparel, with photos showing before, process, and after. READY, SET, GO!

Some of these items will find their way to the Etsy shop, others will be for my personal wardrobe.

The first project will be a vintage sequin dress that friend Amy gave me to re-fashion for her.

Update on SIS2rs... while mom still continues to crochet pet hats and baby items, I have taken a bit of a hiatus. I took time to design a clothing line, with business name of Yes2Year. The focus is period inspired apparel for everyday wear. Both clothing and accessories inspired by the Renaissance, Victorian, Edwardian and Roaring 20s periods to wear as separates, or to combine for a period costume look. Affordable and Convertible.
I sketched out 16 looks, purchased some material, and began sewing. A work in progress....! I got sidetracked with a music video production for Clay Walker:

I designed all the costumes for the girls- burlesque style, and outfitted all the cowboys. Pam did the awesome grey spanish tulle outfit and Rojo's shoulder wrap.

And alas as I enjoyed researching the burlesque outfits so much, I have taken a venture into Steampunk design! And dragging Pam along with me! We are currently designing full outfits which we will premier in the Etsy shop likely in April. The costumes will be ordered to fit- sold as a complete outfit or as individual pieces.

So quick update! This blog will now see some action!! You go Girl(s)!

Christmas re-fashion

Took a red hat and a green hat from stock, stripped them of prior decorations, and christmas-tized them!
Lucy was nice enuf to model.. But pics did not turn out that good.. Will retake later.

Crochet Pet Hats

Mom has made some 'scumptious' soft and beautiful baby hats (which come with mittens also!), but check out her newest venture into pet hats! LOVE IT!

Daisy is not happy about this new creation... but note how she made ear holes! She recently received a request to make this hat for a cat!

Drawing the pattern today for a youth pirate hat!
As the tutu will be red & black, decided to do the bottom brim in red satin, and the rest of the hat in black, with a beautiful red ostrich feather!

Las Vegas Baby!

Here I go! My first blog ever!

Went to Vegas last week but not to gamble (even though I did a little!) Our daughter lives in Las Vegas; husband had meetings in Las Vegas so I went along to spend some quality time with Richelle. She had some sewing that she wanted me to do for her. She is a novice sewer (never wanted to really learn while living at home because "Mom can do it for me!")

She had started a skirt but still had the zipper to put in. After fixing some seam allowance problems, the skirt fit her perfect and onto the zipper. Richelle didn't want a normal zipper but one of those exposed zippers that is popular right now. After some adjustments, got the zipper in for a very cute skirt!

Next project - red linen blend dress. Turned out gorgeous! Very sophisticated and looks great on her.

I had already completed this purple

dress for her and just needed her to try on for the hem.

I did not get to one dress that she wants so brought it home to sew on. She still has one dress that she is going to make but she is going to take a sewing class at Joann's. They offer a class where you can take any project in and the instructor will teach and help you as you go. Good class for Richelle as she can do some sewing but just needs to have some help with technique.

I had a great time in Las Vegas (hot, hot,hot) and Richelle is now dressed to the nines for her new job!

Mmmmm! LOVE the smell of fresh roasting Hatch green chilis! This time of year they roast them fresh outside the grocery stores. On the corners... Every where! Yum!

Very hot today- don't think I will get much sewing done until evening. ;o(

This weekend I cut out the bright green lame for a small vest, lined with cream satin... Pam is doing a small tutu to match- theme for this costume will be a green fairy.

Sent all tutu sets home with HG this weekend- she will have her daughter model- i am looking forward to seeing the pictures on Monday!

So instead of sewing this weekend, working on the instructional for the pet hat kit. Will start with the small top hat, and then later a Victorian. The writing outline is done, so next step will be making a hat and taking pictures at each step, and inserting in the doc. I will need someone to review to determine if I am making the instructions understandable! Volunteers?

Also working on the mailing list this weekend. NEED to get postcards mailed!
OFF to work on this... adios amigos!

Cape # 4 complete

With over 24 ribbon flowers, this cape took the longest of all. But won't it look fabulous with the longer pink tutu (that Pam made)!

Here is close up shot of a flower. Here is quick tutorial on how to do:
For this size, use 10" length of wired ribbon. Remove wire from one side, and gather the other side using wire (don't let it slip out!).
Fold over 1/4" on end of ribbon/wire, then fold from top corner, triangle.
Take a needle and thread, and catch the folds you just made. Lay some flower stamens (I used 4) on the edge, and roll the ribbon over. Stitch to catch and secure the stamens. Continue rolling the ribbon around, making as tight or loose as you desire. When at the end, fold over the end of the ribbon (triangle it down) and secure.

To add a leaf, take 5” length of wired ribbon. Remove wire from one side. Then pull the wire on the opposite side, gathering into a loop. Twist wire to secure. Squeeze the circle in the middle, and then wrap the wire around, catching the cut ends of the ribbon in the wire wrap. Sew this to the base of the flower.

Posting a pic of a new PET HAT design I am working on; I am in LIMBO at this time regarding.
My idea was to do a large brim hat much like a sombrero, but with room for the cat or dog’s ears to pop up. Due to the shape of the cat’s head, ended up with an oval shape. My intent from this step forward was to add a round crown inside the ears, which would be attached only at the front/ back of the brim.
GOOD thing about the design-actually sits on the cats head (until he flips upside down!)! The execution is difficult- mainly on how to cover/ finish the hat!
ANY comments or critique would be appreciated!

Decided that the blog I set up on my domain was too difficult to access, and thus blog posts were not being done. This weekend as 'running' to and fro to my sewing studio, with scissors in hand.. epiphany! GREAT title of a blog!

Alas, with a full-time job during the week, weekends are often a whirlwind of activities including creating new items for the shop... 'running with scissors'!

This weekend, I worked on 4 capes that will complete the costume tutu sets- a joint effort with Pam. AND I located models, which we plan on doing photo shoot this coming Sunday! Thank you, Sarah, for having the perfect age, beautiful girls!
