This walking stick can be used for many things to help teach your dog and make it easier for him to learn.

www.sitmeanssit.com Teaching your dog to run straight across different types of surfaces will help you in no matter what dog sport you may have interest in. It is more difficult, and shows a different picture to the dog if he has to cross different types of terrain, than if he always sees ONLY grass. Yes, I know that in his sport grass may be the only type of terrain that he sees, but this will generalize and proof the picture much better for him. It also good to do these drills with jumps and hoops as well. The practicing with the hoops and jumps have made this video much easier to accomplish because the dog has a much clearer picture of going straight through anything, and when the training aids are removed, as seen in this video, the dog still sees the picture as a straight line. You can find all sorts of different types of surface breaks just in your neighborhood and can get some work done if you are just taking your dog for a walk around the block. This dog training video was taken at a park and in a parking lot that are close to where I live. You can get as imaginative as you’d like with distractions that are all around you.

www.sitmeanssit.com You can also use markers such as hoops to teach the dog to turn and sit squarely from a distance as is shown in this video with my young Labrador Retriever “Kohl”.

www.sitmeanssit.com This is just a fast drill using frisbees as the item for the dog to retrieve but you can use anything. You should try and mix things up so that the dog has to think and use his head. The dog must pay attention to whatever hand signal you are giving him as to what direction he should go in. Other commands are mixed in here as well.

www.sitmeanssit.com Whether you are using your hoop tunnels for agility dog training, to teach your dog to run straight for hunting dog trials, or just for preparation to not miss any jumps just about ever if you are a competition trainer……it’s now time to raise the bar and make the hoop even smaller. Feel free to watch some of my many other videos that also show the dog going through the larger hoop. These same principles are used in the most effective and fast way to teach your dog jumps also. “Kohl” is 20 months old.

www.sitmeanssit.com For a thorough understanding of a tunnel command to the dog, I like to teach it with distraction, and from different angles that he has to enter it from. In this video he is going with his back to the tunnel and turning in the same direction of whatever hand that I raise. This allows me to practice directional hand signals at the same time. I am using a frisbee also as a reward and to build speed. The other dog is the distraction.

www.sitmeanssit.com It is fun to practice your dog running through tunnels or hoops from longer distances and will help to proof your dog that he must go through the tunnel. These hoops are much easier to carry and would be actually harder to run through than an actual tunnel because it would be much more familiar and more visual, although it would be much more difficult to carry around. The dog could obviously make many more choices to go around, or stop short because of the distances involved here. It is always easier to run a dog through any obstacle from a closer distance than from a further one. You can add in distractions, or take this into a dog park to make the degree of difficulty go up even further.

www.sitmeanssit.com As you can see in this dog training video, there are a lot of things that you can use your frisbees for besides the dogs just catching them. Use them as markers and placeboards, and rolling them will also keep their enthusiasm high, and their chance of injury down. Especially good for people like me that can’t throw very well!

www.sitmeanssit.com it can be fun combining agility and Frisbee dog training together. The dog would have been able to catch the frisbee sooner if I could throw a frisbee better. LOL!! I am also practicing with the dog entering the tunnel from an angle. Be as imaginative as you can with your training, it will make it fun and exciting for both you and the dog.

This video shows me (Fred Hassen) running in my very first half marathon. It was a lot of fun and all the people around you that are running throughout the trek up and down the Las Vegas strip are truly inspiring and keep you going. This would have been much harder if all the people and the crowd were not there. I believe there was something like 45000 people running in this at night for Krohn’s and Colitis and people came from all over. There were young and old in the race and people with all sorts of costumes. They had ‘live’ bands playing throughout the race, and of course with it being called the ‘Rock and Roll’ marathon that makes sense. They had people running the full marathon, which is 26.2 miles, and people running the half marathon which is 13.1. I only ran the half. I’m very happy that I took video a long the way so that I will always have memories of this event. I am 54 years old and just started training for this a few months ago. I had never run beyond 10 miles in my life.
