That's a given, but I don't like the hassle of making it, keeping it hot, putting up with stale coffee in the bottom of the pot and of course cleaning up everything after it's made. That's why I've been eying Keurig Single Cup coffee makers for some time now.</span></p> <p>This is a mildly expensive proposition. The least expensive model is around $90.00 and I don't usually like to buy at the bottom of the line. The K-Cups that these things use are also obviously more expensive than buying coffee by the bag. On the other hand, there is an argument to be made with regards to waste: we often throw away the last few cups of coffee when we perk it ourselves. There is also the matter of running out of the house with no time to make coffee - that means a stop for a cup that will cost at least three or four times what the K-Cup costs.</p> <p><br /><br /><i><b>Many of the products and books I review are things I purchased for my own use. To me, this looks an awful lot like <a href="http://wave.google.com/">Google Wave</a>, or at least a "lite" version of what that says it will be. However, there's an important difference: Google Wave, if and when it ever becomes real, will require a Wave Server. Opera Unite shares from your computer.</p> <p>Well, sort of. Opera's servers access your content and share it with others. So it's not <i>direct</i> access to your computer... but really that technical difference hardly matters. According to the release notes, it has "Better performance and stability with the new TraceMonkey JavaScript engine". Well, maybe: I found that Firefox 3.5 on Mac OS X crashes less frequently, but it does still crash and when it crashes it still has startup problems.</p> <p>Fortunately, they've added a feature that helps with that. When Firefox can't start, it puts up a "Well, this is embarrassing" window - and yes, it is embarrassing - when will Firefox <i>really</i> be stable? That window lets you choose what tabs to reopen or to give up and start a new session. That's probably not an unusual habit for most users - heck, I bet most Windows users NEVER look at log files. It is more unusual for me; Unixy people tend to look at logs more often and that habit should have come with me to OS X. But it hadn't.</p> <p>When I finally did start Console and take a peek , I was annoyed to see hundreds of errors from <a href="http://aplawrence.com/foo-mac/launchd.html">Launchd</a> trying to start daemons for programs that I had removed from my system. Aaargh - that was dumb. Almost always there will be instructions or a link in the bounce message that tells you what you need to do next. It's usually pretty simple (here's <a href="http://www.spamcop.net/fom-serve/cache/89.html">Spamcop's FAQ page</a>, for example). You follow the directions and get yourself removed, but a month or so later it happens again. You are unhappy, and if you are one of my <a href="http://aplawrence.com/Kerio">Kerio Mailserver</a> customers, you might have sent me an email saying just how unhappy you are.</p> <p>Ok - take a deep breath. It's unlikely to be the mailserver that is at fault here. More likely you have an internal machine that is responsible. The problem COULD be on whatever server the mail server runs on, but it still is unlikely to use the mailserver program. That little sentence fragment was part of a support email I received this week. The email went on to say "After we ran it the system will no longer boot. The system is running now, it's working (or at least mostly working), so why tempt fate?
