Matt Hannon was performing at the Air Conditioned Supper Club in Venice on May 31, 2009 so I decided to check the band out. The band consists of Matt Hannon, Chris Moseman on Guitar, Rick Lackowski on Drums and Jon Ronda on Bass.

Being that I've been at the ACSC a few times, I've become pretty familiar with various lighting situations that can arise here.

Stonesthrow artist Mayer Hawthorne was performing at The Continental Room on June 16, 2009 so I decided to head out to the opposite side of town and check out his live show. The sometime dj, sometime singer, was performing with his band, The County, a selection of songs from the forthcoming album.

This was my first time at the Continental Room. Definitely a good spot for drinks, but an interesting spot for a show, considering the size of the venue and size of the crowd. The lighting definitely added to the mood, as did the many female fans attracted by this rising artist.

Met up with DJ Icy Ice, of the World Famous Beat Junkies and Soul Elevation, to take some photos while he was spinning at Soul Sessions on May 23, 2009. For those not familiar with the bi-weekly event, it is located in Los Angeles' Chinatown at the Grand Star Jazz Club.

Toquon da MC, also of Soul Elevation, came through and helped emcee that night. During the middle of Icy Ice's set, Soul Elevation performed a song with a special appearance by L.A.'s own Medusa. The night was closed out by Plann.B and an impromptu appearance by Rhettmatic.

Photos from Freefall Rescue & Sam Gibney at the Cat Club in West Hollywood on April 14, 2009

Freefall Rescue, along with Sam Gibney, was performing at the Cat Club in West Hollywood on April 14, 2009.

The Cat Club had an interesting atmosphere with the really dim lights and a disco light posiitioned above the stage. There was also an open window behind the band with a neon sign and ambient lights from Sunset Blvd. What made this tricky to photograph was being able to compress the higlights while pulling the enough shadow details to match the feeling from within the Cat Club. Overall, the photographs from the show have an interesting look that might not appeal to everones' taste.

Freefall Rescue was performing at the Air Conditioned Supper Club in Venice on April 26, 2009 so I decided to check the band out again.

Last time I was at the ACSC, I had to combat the extreme low lighting situation. This time around, I came prepared by using a different film that I knew would capture the shadow details of the stage.

Photos from Or, The Whale at the Silverlake Lounge in Los Angeles on Mar 12, 2009

After catching Or, the Whale shows at various time in San Francisco. I finally was able to catch them with a camera on hand, this time at the Silverlake Lounge in Los Angeles on March 12, 2009. Check out the photos of this 7 member band as their tour passes through Los Angeles on their way to SXSW 2009 in Austin, Texas

The main difficulty shooting this show was mainly due to switching spots with 2 other photographers and not feel like a "spot hog". Overall I think the choice of film and development process fit the look I wanted to go for with the overall scene. I would had like to get better shots of drummer Jesse Hunt, bassist Justin Fantl and Tim Marcus on pedal Steel. I guess that leaves a more concious effort the next time Or, The Whale runs its way through Los Angeles.

Chilling with DJ Icy Ice, of the World Famous Beat Junkies and Soul Elevation, at the K-DAY studio . Took some snaps while Ice was mixing during his live on-air set. These were taken at K-DAY studios in mid Wilshire back in November 2006. Definitely interesting checking out the studios.

Interesting note, was that it was one of my first times out with Nikon D200 for non-personal color work. Overall a good learning experience but still couldn't stop the love of low light film photography.

After the show, we headed out to the Divine Forces radio show, hopefully I'll get around to those photos sometime soon. Until then, enjoy these photos from that night.

Took some live band shots of Freefall Rescue during their most recent performance. These were taken at the Air Conditioned Supper Club on February 15, 2009. The venue was a bit dimmer than most, but overall ended up with a handful of shots. As usual, the music was good as was the venue and drinks.
