Just switched from PHP4 to PHP5. Some of my scripts are not working anymore; ~~will fix later.~~ Done!

Two other blogs are online at Qblog: HD Videos (English) and Videoclip (Italian).

In other news: the Automaton (whinow supports for external download links. That make posting Fight or Flight really straight and error proof.

Next feature: I'd like to find a way to get the correct spelling for a website name, that is to get "No Fat Clips!!!" from nofatclips. Maybe not very useful, but an interesting to try.

Sono passato da PHP4 a PHP5. Alcuni dei miei script non funzionano più. ~~Più tardi li aggiusto.~~ Fatto!

Altri due blog sono online presso Qblog: HD Videos (in inglese) e Videoclip (in italiano).

Altre notizie: l'Automaton adesso supporta link esterni per il download. Questo rende post come Fight or Flight molto più semplici ed esenti da errori.

Ora vorrei riuscire ad estrapolare la grafia corretta del nome di un sito (es. ottenere "No Fat Clips!!!" da nofatclips). Magari non è utilissimo, ma è interessante provarci.

A genius piece of low fidelity, highly funny digital patchwork. A music video starring the Internet, that is you. Almost.

Sour is a Japanese post-rock band formed in spring 2002 by hoshijima, Sohey and KENNNNN.

Hibi no Neiro (Tone of Everyday) is the lead single to their first mini album Water Flavor EP released on July 24 2009.

Seems like synaesthesias are all the rage lately, since this song asks: "Which color is your melody?" Anyway...

The music video was directed by Masashi Kawamura, Hal Kirkland, Magico Nakamura, Masayoshi Nakamura.

"The song is about discovering your own color or voice in this world. It speaks of embracing your individuality in order to embrace what the rest of the world has to offer. The use of the web-cam and the idea of capturing people’s individual expressions as they collaborate to make a greater whole, made a lot of sense."

Technicalities and more Credits

No posts and no clips make DeK something something.

Ok, this is the last tech post for a while, I promise. I've put Thickbox back in place. Can't use it for previews, but is still good for single images and credits.

Also, added the Automaton a slight function, to tell absolute URLs out of relative URLs, developed by Dave Nadeau.

I'll have a look at the new HTML5 tags: I could make a parallel website, more tube like with embedding and all. But now it's time for some content.

P.S. External download links will now show file size again. Yes, I've just written a new Automaton module on the fly.

Ok, questo sarà l'ultimo post tecnico per un po', promesso! Ho rimesso su Thickbox. Non lo posso usare per le anteprime, ma va bene per immagini e credit.

Inoltre, ho aggiunto all'Automaton una funzione per ricavare URL assolute da quelle relative, sviluppata da Dave Nadeau.

Darò un'occhata ai nuovi tag HTML5: potrei usarli per un sito parallelo, più simil-tubo, con codice per embed e tutto il resto. Ma ora torniamo alla sostanza.

P.S. Link esterni per il download torneranno ad avere indicata la dimensione. Ho appena scritto un modulo per l'Automaton.

I hate popups. Who loves them, anyway? Still, it seems that I can't have fancy box and fancy gallery together at the moment.

Since nofatclips and dekku.nofatclips are two different domains, calling scripts from one site to the other is a potential security issue, and then forbidden.

The problem will solve once and for all when I'll leave Blogger. But I'll try placing the whole script inline, in my template. But not now...

For the moment, I've spent too much time on the issue of previewing. Popups will do.

Odio i popup. Chi li ama, d'altronde? Tuttavia, sembra che fancybox e galleria non possano coesistere, almeno al momento.

Siccome nofatclips e dekku.nofatclips sono due domini diversi, chiamare script dall'uno all'altro è un potenziale problema di sicurezza, indi proibito.

Il problema si risolverà quando deciderò di abbandonare Blogger. Ma proverò anche piazzare gli script inline, hai visto mai. Però non ora...

Per il momento, sull'anteprima ci ho perso già troppo tempo. I popup andranno bene.

When a little girl finds a doll house in the garbage and asks her daddy to bring it home, the robot living in the toy has his stroke of luck. Or ain't he?

Little Big Love is a short movie written, directed and animated by Tomas Mankovsky, who also did the music.

Cinematography for the live action scenes: Trolle Davidson and Filip Tydén. Post production by Tomas Mankovsky and The Chimney Pot.

The robot head was designed by Fredrik Tjernström and built by Jean-Louis von Dardel. The body is the work of Wuchan Kim at Clay Mate.

Quando una ragazzina trova una casa di bambole e chiede al papà di portarla a casa, per il robot che vi abita è un gran colpo di fortuna. O no?

Preview: where Credit is due

The system I developed yesterday for the preview is kind of complicated in its structure but allows me to generate the whole thing automagically, with just a line of code... kindly provided by the Automaton!

I use Greybox to make the fancy box appear when you click. I've actually had to modify the script, removing the "please wait" iframe which gave security problems.

The page encased in the box is generated on the fly by a PHP script (triggered with an URL Rewrite) and uses Galleria for fancification purposes. Also, much of the HTML code generated by the script is taken from the examples found on Devkick.

Il sistema che ho sviluppato ieri per le anteprime è un po' complicato nella struttura, ma mi permette di generare il tutto automagicamente, con una sola linea di codice... gentilmente fornita dall'Automaton!

Uso Greybox per far comparire il riquadro quando si clicca il link. Ho dovuto modificarlo, rimuovendo l'iframe "attendere prego" che dava problemi di sicurezza.

La pagina incastonata nel riquadro è generata da uno script PHP (azionato con un URL Rewrite) ed usa Galleria per tutti gli abbellimenti. Inoltre, la maggior parte del codice HTML generato dallo script è tratto dagli esempi trovati su Devkick.

La pesca, di solito, viene vista come hobby rilassante. Ma provate a dirlo ai pesci. O al povero pescatore che incappa nel pesce sbagliato.

Great Glutton Island è un divertente corto di Valere Amirault, studente della Supinfocom.

Experimenting (a little more)

I've opened a new place on Qblog: called it Alta definizione (Italian for HD). The idea is to make several thematic blogs.

This is in order to try out Wordpress. The WYSIWYG editor still sucks, but it can be disabled.

And we got thumbnails, at least for one post. Still not convinced about them, but there is a better way.

I've installed the Thickbox script, and it can be used to display a slideshow rather than just a single image.
(In fact I had to modify the Lightbox CSS 'cause it fucks up my already messy layout.)

Also, I think the codec links at the end of the posts have done their job and are now gone.

Ho aperto un nuovo sito su Qblog: si chiama Alta definizione. L'idea sarebbe quella di proporre diversi blog tematizzati.

Questo al fine di testare Wordpress. L'editor visuale fa sempre schifo, ma (urrà!) si può disattivare.

Ed abbiamo i thumbnail, almeno per un post. Non sono ancora granché convinto, ma c'è di un modo migliore.

Ho installato lo script Thickbox, e posso usarlo per mostrare sequenze di immagini piuttosto che una sola.
(In effetti ho dovuto modificare il CSS di Lightbox perché mi fotteva l'impaginazione.)

Inoltre, penso che i link dei codec in fondo al post abbiano fatto il loro tempo. Li levo.

When Daniel Dennett said (in his Darwin's Dangerous Idea) that evolution can be explained using only "cranes" (as opposed to the all mighty sky-hooks), he surely had a different thing in mind...

The tancho is a koi (or nishikigoi, a Japanese carp) with a red patch on its head, which is named after the Red Crowned Crane (Grus japonensis), a bird which also has a red spot on its head.

In the short movie, the bird, stuck in the struggle between its true self and its desires, will choose the third way.

Tancho is the thesis film by Oscar Sheikh at the School of Creative Media of the City University Of Hong Kong.

Il tancho è un koi (o nishikigoi, una carpa giapponese) con una macchia rossa sulla testa; si chiama come la Gru della Manciuria (Grus japonensis), anch'essa dotata di macchia rossa.

In questo corto, l'uccello, combattuto fra la sua vera essenza ed il suo desiderio, finirà per scegliere la terza via.

Tancho è la tesi di laurea di Oscar Sheikh presso la School of Creative Media della City University di Hong Kong.

Speak your Mind: Thumbnails or Rotator?

You might have noticed that both images on Sita are rotating: if you reload the page, they change.

Some time ago, visitor Stellar Drift asked for a series of thumbnail, somewhat like I did in the post for Your Woman.

I was thinking that adding a javascript that reload the image when you hover on it with the mouse for some time, would be a good surrogate. What do you think?

In other news: the Automaton can now guess download links from watch links. It just look for embedded MP4 or MOV files by now, but I can make it more sophisticated later.

Potreste aver notato che entrambe le immagini per Sita "ruotano": ricaricando la pagina, cambiano.

Qualche tempo fa, Stellar Drift chiese di inserire un'anteprima per i video, come feci per il post di Your Woman.

Pensavo che aggiungendo un javascript che ricarica l'immagine quando vi si resta fermi col mouse per un po', potrebbe essere un ottimo surrogato. Pareri?

Altre notizie: l'Automaton ora può trovare i link "download" a partire dai link "watch". Per ora si limita a cercare gli "embed" MP4 o MOV, ma posso migliorarlo in seguito.

The 2008 animated feature film written, directed, produced and animated (etc...) by Nina Paley.

Sita Sings the Blues "intersperses events from an episode of the Ramayana, illustrated conversation between Indian shadow puppets, musical interludes voiced with tracks by Annette Hanshaw and scenes from the artist's own life."

There would be so much to say, but this time I prefer to redirect you on the official website where you can also download other versions of the film, bonus material, buy the DVD or donate to the artist.

NOTE: I haven't tested the Ogg Video version (also because it wouldn't work on my old PC) but it should work fine.

Experimenting (just a little)

In the past few days I played a little with the website and some other software.

First: I managed to download an RTMP stream (this stream to be precise) using Wireshark to track down all the information needed to rip it off.

It took all the afternoon but in the end it turned out to be much easier than it seemed.

Second: I did a little PHP image rotator for the time when I have more suitable images for a post. You know, I hate to choose.

Third: I've installed the latest (and I hope not the last) version of StaxRip and encoded a feature length film, that I'm about to post.

Since Planet DVB seems down, I needed to track down and install manually all the software required. If you're trying yourself and need help in doing so, leave a comment.

Also added a module to the Automaton to handle the tagging of the MP4 files.

Nei giorni scorsi ho giocato un po' con il mio sito e con un po' di software aggiuntivo.

Primo: sono riuscito a scaricare uno stream RTMP (questo stream per la precisione) usando Wireshark per trovare i dati necessari a tirarlo giù.

Ci è voluto tutto il pomeriggio, ma alla fine era più facile di quanto immaginassi.

Secondo: ho realizzato uno script per la rotazione delle immagini per quando ho più immagini buone per un post. Odio scegliere.

Terzo: ho installato la versione più recente (speriamo non l'ultima) di StaxRip ed usata per il lungometraggio che vado a postare.

Siccome Planet DVB è giù, ho dovuto trovare e poi installare a mano tutto il sw necessario. Se qualcuno di voi ci sta provando ed ha bisogno di aiuto, può lasciare un commento.

Ho anche aggiunto un modulo all'Automaton per gestire l'aggiunta di tag ai file MP4.

A series of three spots for a newspaper from Lebanon which is producing a smaller and more practical copy. Beethoven, Napoleon and Gandhi are summoned to witness that size doesn't matter. Or does it?

In order to prioritize facial expressions, real eyes (and hands) has been integrated with the cardboard models.

The spots were directed by Carlos Lascano and produced at Bent Image Lab.

Per dare priorità alle espressioni facciali, (mani ed) occhi veri sono stati integrati con i modelli di cartone.
