3 Greatest Loves

Recently I learned that we only experience 3 great loves of our lives. I had no idea because I’ve only experienced the first of those 2 loves and I hope before I die, I get to experience the 3^rd.

What are the 3 greatest loves that we will experience?

Young Love/First Love

Our first of the three is that of young love or our first love. It is new and fresh and has our emotions all over the place. We are told that this type of love doesn’t last, but we all know high school sweethearts who have been together since high school or in some cases middle school. I had this experience with my high school sweetheart; it lasted 15yrs...until it didn't.

Toxic Love

Our second love is that Toxic Love. It’s that love where there is always some sort of drama or contention and for whatever reason we tend to overstay in this type of love. Sassy can tell you, that she has experienced a couple of these, not in an abusive way, but in a way that I knew they weren’t good for me but I didn’t leave immediately. Rather I stayed until I just couldn’t deal anymore.

Everlasting Love

Our third love is that Everlasting love. It’s that love that we just don’t see coming. We can’t explain it, but we are inexplicably drawn to them. It’s organic and out of the blue. This is the love that I and others are waiting for. Sadly some of us think we have this love, but in reality we don’t. We have a semblance of that. However, this will be that person you aren’t usually attracted to outwardly, however they will speak to something within us that we always wanted, but never even thought about it until it happens. It will be an easy fit and like I said, you won’t see this coming.

As I stated, I have experienced the first two and I hope before I leave this earth to experience the 3^rd.

Wassup! Wassup! Wassup everyone! It’s been a very long time since I last wrote ANYTHING remotely resembling a blog and for that I apologize.

During my self-imposed, but not really, because I was too busy to catch you all up on what I ‘ve been doing (sorry for the run on, but its kinda how my life has been). So I’m doing radio on an actual radio station (I know, cool right)! Anyway, not to take away from my 7 years on BlogTalkRadio but I being on the air during Prime Time Drive Time – 5pm to 8pm, on Women Talk Radio, Friday’s was such a rush and a thrill for fulfilling a dream.

From that show we transitioned to TELEVISION! Yes, you heard me right – television – I am so stoked!. The show is Women Talk Live and it airs Monday, Wednesday, and Friday on LaunchTV on DirectTV!

Additionally, I have joined the land of Scoping…that is Periscope – a fun new way of getting Sassyism’s and thoughts out to you!

Yes its Christmas time. A time where family and friends gather to love and share old times, good times, and new times as they exchange gifts and laughter and love.

Yet you sit in the background and rather than enjoy the festivities, you are woeful and quiet, lamenting silently about your singleness.

How do I know this? Because I used to do exactly that, smiling on the outside, but crying on the inside. Hell, I did that and I was in a relationship, yet always always spent Christmas alone.

However, I broke out of that mode by doing these 5 things:

1. I thank GOD each and every day for my family and my friends and for all of the blessings he continues to bestow upon me.
2. I take joy in seeing the delight in my nieces and nephews faces as they open up their gifts.
3. I love being around my family and my friends, so make sure that I make time for them.
4. I play Christmas music, drink egg nogg, and decorate my house and tree with family and friends.
5. I repeat steps 1 & 3 as often as possible.

What I did, was stopped focusing on my singleness and being thankful for those in my life who have told me and shown me that they love me, and that is one of the best Christmas gifts anyone can have.

Sassy Situation - Trust is My Issue

Dear SassyScribe,

I came across your blog and I wanted you to know that I love it.

I have a problem and I want your help. I have learned that I do not trust men. Its like I am always waiting for the other shoe to drop in any situation. I don't care if I am meeting a man, I automatically expect him to not be entirely truthful. When I am in a full fleged relationship I think at some point he is lying to me. I read between the lines all the time even when there isn not need to.

I don't want to be like this but I think I may have lost alot of men because of my distrust of men.

Can you help me or point me in the right direction.

First I want to thank you and I hope I can continue to keep you as a valued reader. Please share the blog with your friends.

I have a confession as well. I too at one time had major trust issues with men because someone very close to me cheated. And I said if that person could cheat then anyone could. I took me years to realize that all men are not the same. Although I did not seek counseling, I strongly recommend it.

Seeking professional help will most likely reveal issues that you may or may not have in your life. Is your father in your life? If not, is there another male role model, or if so have the aforementioned cheated on the women in your life. See there are underlying factors to your lack of trust and the best way to find out is through professional help.

Black Women & Self Hate

Congratulations to Gabby Douglas for her gold medal win at the 30^th Olympiad in London 2012.

However her win was tarnished by negative comments on her hair. And it wasn’t coming from Caucasians; it was coming from Black women!

The accolades were overshadowed by the negative and derogatory comments over her hair. It is a continuing saga that Black women seem to have for one another. Is it envy, self hatred, or jealousy? Why is it that sisters hate on each other?

That question got me to thinking and I really stopped and watched black women over the weekend. My gender never ceases to amaze me! I mean I go out and I hear women saying things that sound good, but when I looked at them, I mean really looked and truly listened you could tell that they weren’t “sincere”. It was like they were trying to co-sign with me, and that’s not an easy task to do. I am a strong willed and very very very outspoken individual. I am obnoxious to some, others don’t care for my “potty” mouth, but there is one thing you won’t mistake, and that is where I am coming from. I want to say that it is because I am older and wiser. But that’s not the case, because I’ve always been opinionated, but I feel it’s because I am not afraid and I love ME. I have no fear of being alone and I do not define myself by whether or not I have a man.

Ladies, may not like this but some women are filled with so much self-hate and self-loathing and have very little self-worth, that it is easier for them to denigrate other women who may actually be better than they are. They may be better looking, more educated, and maybe even more successful, and I think this can be where the hate comes in. I had a friend who told me that she had a lot of girlfriends in her life that was until she met a man who loves her and the girlfriends are jealous. As sad as it may sound, they delighted in her misery when she was being dogged out by one dude, but the minute she met a man who not only told her he loved her, but showed her, well, those “girlfriends” began to hate. I told her they weren’t her girlfriend’s, because real girlfriends want to see you happy and prospering rather than miserable and unaccomplished.

Women who know themselves and know who they are get what I am saying. But for those that don’t know and can’t quite understand, they are going to have to be honest with themselves. They are going to have to stop being afraid of being alone. Let’s keep it real, these same women that don’t get what I am saying are alone now, even as they “claim” a relationship, emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually they are alone AND lonely.

Oh and knowing oneself doesn’t mean they have to emasculate men and/or dumb down…knowing oneself is understanding the phrase DO YOU…and I swear ladies, once you get that, I mean really and truly get it…you will have a better understanding of you!

MANagement Rings

The placement of the engagement ring has been a long held tradition of showing your status as no longer being available and it’s what some women secretly wish for when dating.

However, there is a new trend. The 2012 tend---the Man Engagement Ring or the MANGAGEMENT RING.

Now some women feel that if he has to be managed, why would they want him? But, it’s not the fact that he is being managed, it is just showing that he is no longer on the market. That he is affianced. That he is betrothed. That he is taken!

It’s a symbolic gesture like the diamond engagement ring for the women. It can be represented in a plain silver, titanium, or stainless steel band. Some women are even springing for Plain Platinum or gold, with an upgrade of adding diamonds for the ‘big day’.

Yet when asked, more women had an issue with such a concept rather than men. Most men had no problem wearing a ‘management’ ring. They felt that it leveled the playing field somewhat. That if he asks for her hand in marriage, why wouldn’t she want to ‘stamp’ him the way he has ‘stamped’ her.

However, the ladies had a real issue. As stated previously, they feel that the management ring is a ring designed to manage him. To keep him in check and under control and none of the women wanted that ‘responsibility’ when it came to their mate. They felt that if he asked for her hand, then he knows he is off the market, even if other women don’t. They feel that it is his RESPONSIBILITY to advise interested ladies, that he is taken.

The management ring is a new twist in an old game. Would I purchase one, probably, not, but I will not begrudge a woman for wanting to ‘brand’ her man.

Power In Relationships – Whose in Charge?

When it comes to power in relationships…whose in charge? Is there one person with more control and/or say than the other? Is it the person with the most money? Is the most educated in the relationship? Or does it come down to traditional roles of the Man is the head of the household and the woman is his second in command?

What are these rules to relationships that I am beginning to see where the word ‘submit’ becomes like an F bomb. I have seen so called strong women, or women who I know to be decisive, articulate, determined, forward in thought, word, and deed, become tongued-tied and meek, when it comes to decisions within their relationship.

It makes me say “I will be single forever.” Don’t get me wrong, I understand the need for working with your mate and compromising, but here lately, I have seen married women who cannot make their own doctors appointments. I know married women who cannot make a family decision about a vacation. To that, I know women who have made family decisions and had to recant said decision after the husband has negated her word. In other words, I have seen that he who holds the most money is the one in charge.

Is that why financially secure women tout their independence? Is this the reason why the fast majority of women are single? Are they too determined and outspoken? Are they unwilling to compromise, or are they just too convicted by their own principles?

What are your thoughts? Who holds the power in a relationships?
