So on my travels around the net I have found this UK supplier called Buckles and Bows. They have a small selection of shoes for Us plus sized lot. It seems they can do wide calf sizes for boots as well, good for me as I want them stylish and wearable.

So ladies, what with the weather changing and the need for decent foot wear become needed, where exactly do you go to get yours?

UPLIFTING BRA FITTING EVENT A SUCCESS FOR SIMPLY YOURS & GOK WAN

Simply Yours' first ever Above Average Underwear Event, hosted by Gok Wan and Key 103, proved to a great success for the plus size lingerie specialist, who is now looking at running further events at selected venues across the country.

Guests arriving at Manchester's Hilton found the Cloud 23 bar decked out in sumptuous fashion with pink and black balloons and prints of the Simply Yours ranges adorning the walls. Beauty treatments went down a storm, as did jewellery displays and specially made ‘Goktails'.

The Simply Yours team gave out lingerie advice, including tips for finding the perfect bra, while Gok himself leant his expertise to one lucky competition winner, using his 1940s inspired collection of shapewear, designed exclusively for Simply Yours.

A good time was had by all, prompting Simply Yours to look at the possibility of taking the show on the road and hosting the Above Average Underwear Event in other UK cities.

Well it seems he has done it again with another magazine discovery but this time with a difference. Not only is Skorch available as a digital edition but you can get it as print as well.

Well it might as it is stuffed full with fashion and more but I think the question should be, for how long will Skorch remain in print? Costs are low for digital editions but print will cost money and hopefully subscribers can keep it going.

Anyway, enough of the worrying. Lets just enjoy all those nice clothes.

It has some great fashion features and interviews such as details on the Miss Full Figured Pageant show, editors pick on clothing and pictures of new designs from 'en.v' and Vedette Scott.

The current edition, Spring/Summer 09 has 40 pages for you to check out. I am happy to say this is not a web browser only magazine, there is a link at the bottom that allows you to download it as a PDF file so you can read it on anything that supports Adobe Acrobat format.

A nice touch is that the magazine is available in French and Spanish.

Now before you ask who is this model, Erika has become a very busy plus size model for the likes of Anna Sholtz, Littlewoods, Bravissimo and of course Simpy Yours. If you want to know more about her, here is a large chunk of text from the Mirror, 'Meet some of the country's plus-size models'...

Erika, 22, from London, was spotted by a scout and started modelling as a nine stone 16-year-old but - not realising her body was still developing - worried as she started to fill out.

She says: "Even though I was 5ft 9ins I was convinced I had to be thinner. My parents grew so worried about the number of times I disappeared into the bathroom to weigh myself, they took away the scales.

"But though I got down to my target weight of 7st 5lbs, my weight started to yo-yo. When I did eat something, I wouldn't be able to stop. It would start with a little bread. Then I would have some more with a little piece of butter. I would end up eating half the loaf. When my agency called me in and suggested I take a break, it was a relief. I took a step back from fashion and went back to college to study.

"I ate normally and my body became the shape it was meant to be - 11 stone. Two years later, I went back to my agency, happier and healthier than ever. They were wowed by my appearance - and this time took me on as a plus-size model.

I am busier than I ever was. I am signed to plussize agency 12plus and travel the world.

"I have starred in the Simply Yours underwear TV commercials and I also model for plus-size designer Anna Scholz, as well as Littlewoods and Bravissimo. I am beautiful because of my weight - not despite it. And my boyfriend agrees."

Oh yes spring is here, it must be because Simply Yours has a new range ready for you to cast your eyes over and to enjoy the season with. You must of seen the TV ad's by now (and if you have not then see the video below) showing off their new items that aim to evoke 1940s glamour.

Admittedly when Bob approached me about writing about the plus size experience in America I was clueless as to how to chronicle something that I have been passionate about. In the four years that I have been blogging about plus size fashion on Full Figure Plus, the one thing that still somewhat depresses me is as popular as blogs and websites dealing with plus size fashion have become the general public still treat plus size fashion as well as plus size individuals as second class citizens.

One good thing that has come out of the fashion evolution in America is the influences from Europe as well as men and women wanting to wear clothing other than tent dresses, and sweat pants. It appears at least to me that overall there is not a focused movement against larger individuals in other countries but I could be wrong.

Sure we have seen companies like IGIGI, Monif C, Vicki V and others to break out of the pack with huge success among the plus size community, but for every plus size fashion victory there is a size discrimination media blitz. So much for not discriminating against people based on size.

The sad part about these successful companies is that they exist because mainstream stores do not carry plus sizes. The excuse for years has been that it costs more to make larger sizes or that the company does not want to be labeled as "fat friendly".

Even though there have been studies about the average size among both men and women the fashion industry has been slow to embrace larger individuals despite reports that predict women alone will account for $12 billion dollars spent on clothing.

America brags about being on top in so many areas, but the one area that my country lives in the dark ages is size acceptance. I pray that one day not only will men and women be able to walk into any store and get clothing regardless of size, but the fashion community embraces a size 22 the same as a size 2.

Many people spend countless hours seated at a desk every week. Americans as a nation are gravitating towards a much more sedimentary lifestyle and it's no secret that sitting in front of a computer all day isn't doing your body any favors. People that spend their days in an office chair often encounter back, neck, and other joint pains as a result of poor posture or an inadequate desk chair. The trick is to sit up straight and find a chair that can support your body in such a way that will help reduce the risk of back problems down the road.

Ergonomics is the science of comfort in the simplest terms. Ergonomic office chairs help support your body in such a way that your back and neck are aligned in the most comfortable way possible. The more comfortable you are, the more efficient a worker you will become. Employers often encourage the use of ergonomic chairs to help increase productivity, improve company morale, and to help reduce the need to pay for doctors bills associated with back problems.

Back pain caused by poor workplace ergonomics can also lead to stress, which isn't healthy for anybody. Stress can be carried in your neck and shoulders and can make work all the more difficult. The reason it has been noticed is the front cover. I believe the current issue has a mostly naked Beth Ditto on the front. Not totally sure if they are in to plus size but seems worth look. They publish twice a year, a bit of extra info...

Love is the new biannual magazine from Katie Grand and Conde Nast. Love is more than just a fashion magazine. Love is a twice-yearly compendium of inspiration - for designers, for artists, for anyone looking for visual ideas; for anyone who loves fashion and design so much that they want to climb inside the heads of their heroes. Love doesn't follow fashion: it sets fashion's agenda.

LOVE people. LOVE character. LOVE fashion (obviously). LOVE fame. LOVE Beth Ditto more than you have ever LOVEd her before. LOVE the imperfect. You know it makes sense.

They have a website and a FaceBook fan page (have to be a member to view).

So on to the other magazine, the one I need to tell you about...

Plus magazine, again from the UK, will be a print styled downloadable magazine in PDF format aimed directly at the plus sized population - 16+ and aged 30+.

You tell the people who work on this have experience in print based magazines, mainly by the way things are laid out on the page, nicely done and very smooth.

The editor is Kate Thompson who has been a journalist for more than 20 years. She is experienced in writing on life style, health and womens issues.

From the preview that I have seen (yes, not ready for the general public yet...will be soon though!) there are going to be tons of features that will make this mag worth getting; True life stories, celeb interviews, lifestyle features, health, hair...well lots of stuff really.

Now I know that you guys are aware of an existing publication called 'Just as Beautiful'. Is there space for another magazine? Well yes of course there is! Yes! Magazine closed down many years ago and to be honest there has been nothing since to fill the gap. How many magazines are there for dress size 16 and under? Loads!. So for the moment us plus sized ladies now have two to look at.

As I get more information from the publishers, I will pass out updates and links...stay tuned!

We like Oola lingerie, we like it a lot. Especially after hearing that Chloe Marshal likes them too. She was given the Rococo lace bra and matching short which looks very nice. Apparently she said...

“It is so important to get the right bra size. If you don’t then you’ll be very uncomfortable for most the day and if your bra isn’t right it can be look very unflattering. Oola lingerie is so comfortable and has an amazing fit so I not only feel fabulous. I look fabulous too”

Oola bra sizes go a lot further than the offerings by Katie Price. While her range is very pretty and gets a lot of attention, not really a range for the plus size women (see the comments on this article, Katie Price Lingerie - where is it?). Sizes are limited and not suitable for a wider back. Luckily Oola do go further by offering back sizes 38 to 48 and cups sizes B to G.

The best bit about the Oola Rococo lace bra and short is the price. The top half will cost you £30, available in purple or white. The bottom half is only £14, again in purple or white.

Curvety.com has been selling plus size clothes online since May 2006 and with its third birthday fast approaching their site has undergone a facelift. Curvety.com today launched a brand new ecommerce website where women can buy their selection of sophisticated plus size women’s clothing in sizes 16 to 36.

So I was really pleased to find Selve, a custom boot maker from the UK. They have been going for about 5 years and seem to be going from strength to strength despite the current credit crunch.

If you want to buy some affordable luxury from Selve, the first thing you need to do is visit one of their 'salon's', for the UK that means a trip to London. There you will get your feet scanned by machine which takes all the important measurements. From there you can customize a template to get your ideal boot. In fact they store all those important foot type measurements so that you can call for your next pair and not necessarily visit the salon.

As they are a bespoke service, focusing on style and fit, turn around is not quick – around 6 weeks. But what you do get is a perfectly fitting stylish boot. All boots are the same price no matter how much you fiddle with the design. Put down a deposit and they design and manufacture and it's yours for £450. One excellent deal if you ask me.

Now to give you some idea of how well they are doing, they are opening up a boutique in Redbank which is very very close to New York. This goes with their existing salon in Munich and London. Also they are increasing their range to cover mens shoes and handbags.

The site itself is appealing, all in pink which is not a surprise. The models all look plus sized, something I prefer as I get a better idea of how the clothes would look on me.

The selections all look pretty good. I did like the “PAS Pinafore style dress – strap”, however if you got a big chest then this will possibly make it look bigger. Not every girl can cope with that!

The age range seems a bit limited, not a lot for teens but the “Baby Phat Red Faux Fur Hoody” may be of interest.

I like this shop, looks to be secure for online shopping and has a phone number displayed on the page. It seems they have had some good press coverage, plenty of UK mags have featured them or have been mentioned.

According to my email, bargain prices on seasonal offers, blouses, dresses, skirts and trousers. The sale page has, at least when I took a look, 228 sales lines. The email did not mention it but in the long list of items for sale there are also swimsuits, shorts, macs (light rain coats), shrugs and cardigans.

Cardigans have always been a problem for me. Short ones that end around the waist or near by make me look large and round. However put me in a long knee length cardy and I look and feel so much better!

Lil' Mama specializes in plus sizes for real women. Being plus sized myself, it's a phrase I like to hear. They have jeans from size 8 to 26 and dresses from size 1. Now before you abandon me and head off looking for sizing charts, they have a size chart with measurements to make sure you get the right fit.

Now as to what you are going to find here, the are quite a few selections to choose from such as; accessories, denim, hosiery (thats stuff for you legs and feet if you are not in the US or Australia), dresses, jackets, pants (translate again – trousers), skirts and tops.

So all in all a good range and with some really pretty items.

So I was more than happy to come across Adele. I first saw Adele, a new and upcoming singer on the Lily Allen Show on BBC TV about a week or so ago. The more I listen to her the more I like it. In fact, it has been said that she is the new Amy Winehouse.

Adele has been awarded the first Brit Awards Critics Choice prize. To quote WikiPedia about her awards...

She was also voted among UK music critics, editors and broadcasters as the winner in the BBC 6 Music's Sound of 2008 poll for acts to emerge in the coming year.[1]

She has an interesting outlook on fame and weight...

The front page states, 'family run UK based business, stocking Maternity Wear and Nursing Wear from UK size 16 through to UK size 30. We specialise in Plus Size Maternity Wear as we understand how hard it is to find on the High Street.

The size range is pretty good, the sizing table for clothing range goes up to UK 32 and the table for underwear says that bras go up to 42K.

Their home page states there is 'free postage and packing on all UK deliveries' which is a good offer not to be missed.

Not usually seen on a clothing site is a contact phone number. Too many sites hide behind automatic ordering systems and emails.

Did you know that unsupported breasts can move as much as 14cm during exercise? It seems these new bra's can provide support and prevent breast tissue from becoming damaged. A normal bra can reduce movement by 38%, this new sports bra can reduce it to 74%.

So far there have been 16 comments ranging from 'where can I find it?' to 'why start at bra size 32?'  I have tried emailing ADSA to find out what is going on but so far no reply.

From the comments left by Aimee it seems there range is available in Fosse park, Leicester and Havant, Hampshire. Seems that the big stores are the ones only stocking the range. Anyone else know where to go?

The consensus is that the sizes for the bra's don't go small enough and not large enough. Sarah left a comment saying that size 38 is certainly not big enough and Denise who said that she wished that they started at size 30. I guess you can't please everyone all the time!

The biggest problem so far is that the range has vanished from the ADSA and George websites. Please ADSA bring back the pictures and how about a list of stores where we can actually buy the stuff!

What makes them different is that the people behind it are bikers. They sell their plus size clothing at biker meetings in the UK (Yay! Another UK retailer!). BFC stands for Big Fat Clothing, nice and bold in my view! The clothing looks good, though the Tie and Dye T's aren't my style but the badges are! Actually the range they carry is different from the items other sites carry which is a good, nice to see some variation.

Well to be more precise, Milan Fashion week in Italy. Seems the problems over models and their sizes is going to continue. I just wish they could agree on something so plus sized designers can get a look in!

Francesco Casile, the organizer of Plusize, a trade fair for producers of clothes for plus sizes was not happy with not being included in the Milan Fashion week events. Casile contends that the necessary paperwork was submitted on time but the event organizers say that it wasn’t.

Most magazines of it's type survived on advertising mainly because the readership was so small. However money was lost to banner adverts on the Internet. But like a phoenix out of the fire comes a new magazine from the UK just for the plus sized!

The magazine is called Just as Beautiful and comes as a FREE PDF file sent to you each month. You can read it on screen, print it or how ever you want to browse it's colourful pages. I have a copy of the first edition and it's fairly packed with good info, interesting articles and fashion.

It's focus is mainly on the UK hence an interview with Debbie Chazen, part of the team that created TittyBangBang (UK TV comedy series). However there is a good article on Igigi, beauty tips and more.

It's really good to see a UK plus size mag again. The team led by publisher Ronnie Ajoku have made an excellent start and I would love to see the UK fashion industry get behind them and make sure it survives for many years!

She shares the picky and annoying eating habits of the thin to the difficulties of finding fashionable, beautiful clothing for large women. California restaurants are a particular sore point for her because of their propensity to serve tiny vegetarian portions of mostly inedible food. She will have your mouth watering even if you don't particularly like fast food as she escapes the upscale restaurants to find a cure for her hunger headache. Monique attributes her positive self-image to her father who always told her she was beautiful.

In fact most of the reviews on the Amazon sales page are positive. The review I liked best was written in December 2005 by 'Negombo Lo', titled 'Unfortunately, it's true'. Made me smile when I read about Pez dispensers and lolipops, you will have to read it to see what I mean!

Lessens the guess work and makes the choosing an item more fun! So a good quality selection where you are bound to find something to wear for any occasion.

I had a quick browse through their site, checking out their Autumn and Winter collections. While it does seem a tad pricey (and you would of thought the prices would be lower when bought through the website!), the clothes themselves do seem very nice.

The size range does seem pretty good, on average the lowest size was 16 though I did see some items starting at 14. The largest I saw with 30 but most going up to 28. Still a good range though.

Can you mention Sue Ann Jaffarian to many times? No of course you can’t! Just because we reviewed the book "‘Too big to miss" in 2001 and then much later told you about her honorable mention at the 10th Annual Writer’s Digest International Self-Published Book Awards in 2003 and then we told you all about how the book has been updated, can that count as too many times? I don’t think so!

So we have now read the new revised edition and thought the ending was great, worth buying it for that. Have you read any reviews of it yet? Well here is an idea of what it is all about, from the back of the book...

"To big to miss - that’s Odelia Grey. A never-married, middle-aged, plus size woman, she struggles with her relationships, her crazy family, and her crazier boss. And there’s her knack for being in close proximity to dead people..."

If you have not read the book then you will miss how Odelia deals with rude shop assistants and how they get their comeuppance. You will also miss the reasons her good friend died and why. The book is a good mystery with a good twist at the end and it is mixed with comments on size acceptance...

"...weight was the last acceptable prejudice. People of girth, especially women, were open targets for jokes and comments. It was still politically correct to assault and ridicule fat people"

And there is romance! Odelia does fall in love and with someone who does really appreciate her for who she is. But I am not going to tell you any more about that!

The book is a good read, a good mystery and the lead character is a BBW. This book, if it had been written by someone else and featured a thin girl instead, would have still worked. That is why I like it. The heroine happens to be big, the size acceptance angle does not get in the way of the story, although it is a big part of it, it does not overtake the plot line.

The characters themselves are nicely drawn, Odelia is a powerful women who just doesn’t not known it yet. Her love interest is a nice parallel of her own experiences of prejudice and again nicely developed. The other subsidiary characters are brought to life enough to make the story move along. I do look forward to see if Odelia’s own family get their just rewards, a background just waiting to be expanded on.

If this book does become as popular as I think it will be, it will introduce the idea of size acceptance and give a glimpse in to every day prejudices large size people experience.

Enough of all this, just go out and buy this book and enjoy a damm good read!

I am often on the look out for nice pieces of jewelry so when I came across Isabella and Friends I knew it was worth taking a look. After having read many pregnancy books, all geared to the ‘regular’ sized mother, all condemning putting on weight let alone starting out as a Plus Sizer, it was a refreshing change to find such an honest approach to plus sized pregnancy when reading this book.

‘Your Plus Size Pregnancy’ comes in 16 chapters and 262 pages, all filled with information even the most experience mother may not know about. We have already featured the book "Too big to miss" here before but we have just heard that there is a new revised edition. For those that have not had chance to read any of the stories, the other being The Curse of the Holy Pail, Sue Anne Jaffarian has created a plus sized amateur detective called Odeila Grey. The newer version of the book now has a new ending with an extra 6000 words and a new cover.

Previous books were self published but now we are pleased to say that her books have been picked up by new mystery imprint, Midnight Ink/Llewellyn. There is even a planned release of a new version of The Curse of the Holy Pail, due in 2007. Also in the works if an e-book by Hard Shell of "Too big to miss". There has even been some TV interest so perhaps we may see the first plus sized detective on screen soon? We can hope!

So guys if you are looking to prepare sushi, mezze and tapas as well as the more normal meat, fish and vegetable starters then this is your book. Get some friends round, select a combination of snacks and starters and you have a fun dinner party!

I took a look at Amazon to find out more about this book but I could only find a short synopsis.

However the reason I am mentioning it all is the plot line. It is not one I have heard of before and the leading character is plus sized AND it seems to be making a dig at the fashion industry, seems like a good start!

The Sterkarm Handshake - By Susan Price

This is a science fiction book and a historical book and highly detailed to boot. The plot revolves around a team from the 21st century who travel through a time tube and take part in the lives of the Sterkarm clan in 16th-century England. One of the characters, Andrea falls in love with one the young clansman. The book details how the clan lives and how they deal with the time travellers. Things go bad to worse, the sense of conflict increases and the action becomes both increasingly violent and increasingly complicated.

Andrea is a ‘fat girl’ who feels more worthy and better suited to the 16th century. So an added angle of self worth and body image combines with what seems a good plot.

There is a follow up book called Sterkarm Kiss where Andrea gets chance to travel back to the 16th century again, mainly because she feels she does not fit in to her world due to her size.

I know it could be said that my back pain could be alleviated by weight loss. This is however a vicious circle as I cannot lose weight so easily due to limited movement which tends to mean I put on weight easily instead…. A classic catch 22!

I've found it at last!! THE dress! The dress I'm going to wear for the office party... stunning spaghetti strap dress which will be absolutely perfect to impress the boss and make my friends all envious!! My good friend Pat has been at it again. She keeps doing it and she get better at it all the time. This time she has written a mystery crime book called Abigails revenge, featuring a large heroine doing battle to make things right. Abigail has done time, put away for a crime she did not commit or so she says. She gets out, meets old friends and new enemies. There's a love interest, a mystery and dark family secrets. All sounds like a good mix for a great read. So I am not going to give to much away execpt that....

This is a quote from the rear cover of Wanted:One Groom by Pat Ballard. Sounds like your average Mills and Boon your mother might read but it is not, there is one huge difference, the leading character. She is a big lady! Hanna Rockwell is a large lady looking to marry to save her from destitution. Her mother and brother are only concerned with saving their home and income. So Hanna announces she will be married on her birthday even though there is no suitor in sight. Matt Corbett a failed rockstar agrees to marry her. His intention is to get out of bankcrupcy but does not expect to really fall in love. This book is full of romance!

It does sound like a good light read and although it started in the style of any other romance novel, it soon took on a more intriging line. It proves that no matter how your confidence is shattered in this case because the leading character is fat, it just takes someone to boost your morale to make you believe in yourself and overcome your fears and realise you are a beautiful person. Romance books can be counted in the thousands but ones which feature large leading characters are very few indeed. It is refreshing to come across a book which does and written so well.

So what happens to Hanna and her family? Well, I will leave you to find that out! I am not an avid reader but I enjoyed this book beginning to end.

Those of you outside of the USA or indeed many inside may never of heard of Hanne Blank. She is a women of many talents; writer, editor, cultural historian, educator, classically trained musician and performer. Hanne lives in Boston, USA and she is the founder and editor of a magazine called 'Zaftig! Sex for the well rounded'. She has led workshops related to sexuality for people of size. Hanne also writes for the Boston Phoenix amoungst other newspapers and magazines. She is also working on a project exploring the history of low womens voices in opera.

When you discover statistics that state, one is three Americans are 'overweight' and about one in eight prefer big bodies to thin ones, you may understand where this book is coming from. The book is a frank and explicit revelation of the truth, just because you are 'fat', it does not mean you are not a sexual person.

This is a resource guide and at the same time it dismisses the myths that have been built up around size related issues. It does both extremely well. With some of its information coming from an internet based survey, it provides a excellent guide to resources on the internet and the real world. It also discusses the frank nature of size and sexuality. Yes, big people like sex too.

On reading the book, I found it to be well written, based on real fact and very revealing. It covers the broad spectrum of sexuality, hetrosexual, gay, lesbian etc. All those of a fuller figure will find that it is able to show them things that they were not aware of! For all my big friends, I would recommend that they read it!

Fat!So? is a collection of amusing one-liners to use as weapons when experiencing fattism at the doctor's surgery, interviews and dates. Plenty of personal anecdotes from fellow fatsos make this an extremely witty manifesto for the happy fat person.

Ms Wann, in the belief that salads and unconfidence are the bane of a fat girl's life has written this book to demonstrate her new approach to weight problems - forget them altogether! Learn how to recover your body, have a healthy approach to living and basically be bold enough to proclaim "I'm fat! So?"

After an appalling experience with a (now ex) boyfriend, who told her she embarassed him too much to introduce her to his friends, health insurance rejection due to "a number on a scale" Ms Wann says, she started the battle on behalf of fat people everywhere.

The author uses the word 'fat' and dislikes the common euphemisms of large, voluptuous, fuller-figured and gravitationally challenged. She suggests the 'fat' word be used loudly and proudly! Even so, Wann, a passionate and vocal fat rebel, does admit that being fat is unhealthy, this, she says, is because as a fat person one is less likely to seek medical and preventative care in an attempt to avoid the inevitable lectures on one's 'weight problem' from the doctor, as opposed to the popular belief that fat must therefore mean unfit and at risk from diabetes, heart failure, varicose veins and high blood pressure.

I personally found this liberating reading and it stirred a rebellious feeling I have felt murmurings of before- who knows - maybe I can make use of some of her witty quips to put down fattists I encounter!
