Diabetes outreach events offer head to toe tal
makeover experience plus nutrition, health and
fitness advice free beauty and fashion services
and music with interactive diabetes
education in a fun, unbeat setting to broaden the
appeal of diabetes outreach for women.
“I want women to feel so good about themselves at
our events that they’re willing to start tackling
their fears or concerns about diabetes in order
to stay healthy,” says Max Szadek, the founder of
the community based nonprofit diabetes
organization, DIVABETIC. “I created that idea for
DIVABETIC Makeover Your Diabetes because I
thought that a boost in self confidence that
results from a makeover could help a woman
struggling to overcome her care obstacles, as
well as enable us to motivate people who are
living in denial about their diabetes, to improve
their care.” Max adds.
The main attraction of every Novo Nordisk
Presents: DIVABETIC Makeover Your Diabetes
event is the interactive diabetes education
component called the MAKEOVER MAZE. The five
stations that comprise the MAKEOVER MAZE
include “Denial’s Not My Style”, “Glam More, Fear
Less”, “Grab Green & Go”, “Twist and Shout”
and “Sweet Inspirations.” Each station is
intended to teach attendees about diabetes in a
personal and more feminine way which reflects the
unique needs and interests of women. “It’s called
a ‘MAZE’ because people always talk about how
confusing diabetes care can be due to all the
mixed messages,” says Max.
At each of the five MAZE stations women meet
members of DIVABETIC’s CORE TEAM including:
Jessica Hileman, RD, CDE for “Grab Green & Go”;
DIVABETIC Partner, Joy Pape, RN, CDE
for “Denial s Not My Style”; Catherine Schuller,
image consultant, for “Glam More, Fear Less”; and
DIVABETIC Founder, Max Szadek for “Sweet
Inspirations.” Celebrity makeup artist, Jeff
Jones and fashion photographer, Winston Kerr,
help women feel like ‘divas’ in the surrounding
areas of the BEAUTY BAZZAR throughout the course
of the evening.
“The mixture of free beauty services interspersed
between the different stations of the MAZE makes
talking about diabetes fun and exciting for

amazing feedback from the local educators who
worked with us commenting that the women
attending were so open and interested in

Background
Multiple Family Day Treatment (MFDT) is a new
treatment approach developed over the last four
years. This approach provides a more intensive
form of family intervention than the usual
outpatient family therapy. In common with
outpatient family therapy, MFDT aims to help
families rediscover their own resources by
emphasising ways in which parents can take an
active role in helping their child to overcome the
eating problem. At the same time families are
encouraged to use the group setting to explore how
the eating disorder has affected family life
making it difficult for the family to follow the
normal developmental course of the family life
cycle. The sharing experiences and the dynamics
of the group are important components of the
treatment.

Aims of this programme

* To present the research and theoretical
underpinning of this approach and to illustrate
how the theory relates to the practice of MFDT
in eating disorders.
* To illustrate through facilitative group
participation how families engage in MFDT by using
psycho educational and therapeutic techniques
relevant to treating eating disorder
* To provide participants with the skills,
knowledge and confidence in order to apply this
model to their relevant clinical setting

What the programme offers
The training consists of a 4 day intensive
programme. Consultations by arrangement with the
facilitation team are included at no extra cost
for those colleagues who start running MFDT’s
after doing this course. After one year
post training any further consultations will be
charged for.

Key Outcome
At the end of the training participants will have
the basic skills to able to set up and run
multifamily day groups in their own clinical setting

COST: For the four day programme: £850.00 (costs
under review) inclusive of materials and refreshments

Who can apply: Health professionals with an
interest in working within an Eating Disorders
multi disciplinary team. Experience of working
with families is an advantage.

attend with one or more of your team colleagues.

monthly parties for Greater Atlanta in Smyrna
(right outside Atlanta) at the Residence Inn
Cumberland not too far from Cumberland Mall. Our

The Full Figured & Fabulous Plus Model
Competition will be held on Saturday, March 31st
at The Blake Hotel, 555 S. McDowell Street,
Charlotte, NC. Showtime: 7 PM.

Come cheer on 35 curvy, sexy and beautiful
aspiring plus size models representing North
Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, South Carolina,
and Florida as they compete for over $10,000 in
cash and prizes.

Our panel of judges will consist of notables in
the fashion, beauty and entertainment industries.

The event kicks off with an exclusive and private
cocktail reception for VIP ticket holders,
followed by fabulous exhibits and the sale of
products and designer clothing for the curvy
community.

In addition to the runway competition, there will
be a runway fashion showcase featuring the
collections of The Voluptuous Woman Company,
Bella Donna Designs, Alisina & Company, Monif C.
Plus Sizes and the Scarlett Boutique all of
whom will be selling their designs at discounted,
sample sale prices before and after the show.

Over 350+ people are expected to attend this
event. And, to show their support, we will have
tons of plus size beauty queens in full pageant
regalia in the audience (hail to the queens).
