Android 2.2 for Droid Incredible has leaked and the Froyo ROM with Sense is now available for download. It is based on the upcoming OTA for Droid Incredible.

According to XDA, everything in this Android 2.2 for Droid Incredible ROM works fine!

You need to do a full wipe in order to install this Froyo ROM on your Droid Incredible. And you must have 2.x radio (baseband).

These leaks only show how well the Froyo update is coming for all the phones. Motorola’s Android lineup seems all ready for the Froyo update as these leaks work perfectly fine!

We all know how late Apple introduced features like copy/paste, multitasking, 5MP camera to the iPhone when these features were available since years on a Nokia phone.

iPhone and Nokia N95 is an interesting comparison to make, only of the ‘new’ features of iPhone 4.

An image leaked yesterday of Android 2.2 running on Droid X, and like I alwas say, yes, it could be fake but you never know if it realyl is an actual one.

It is rumoured that Droid X will be getting a Froyo update by next week. No confirmations yet from Motorola.

For now, we just have this screenshot which was brought up online by MyDroidWorld. If this is really true, expect some more screenshots or an actual Froyo for Droix X ROM soon.

Droid X on Android 2.2, Update Coming Next Week?

Motorola is still wondering whether or not to released Android 2.2 (Froyo) for Motorola Milestone, but looks the as usual impatient modding community has finally brought Froyo to Milestone.

Folks over at ModMyMobile have build a custom ROM for Motorola Milestone of Android 2.2 (FRF91) running flawlessly other than the camera app (which ofcourse will be fixed soon).

The procedure to load Froyo on Milestone is really complicated and isn’t recommended to people who are not used to modding their devices. It could get your phone bricked! You can watch the video below of Android 2.2 on Milestone.

Android 2.2 Froyo for Motorola Milestone

We know Google is internally testing Android 3.0 (Gingerbread)’s early builds and somehow it seems a leaked photo of Android 3.0 running on Nexus One is also out in the wild.

Android 3.0 is expected to release by the end of this year, but Google is completely lip-tight about any sort of info on when Gingerbread (Android 3.0) is going to be released or announced.

Here’s a leaked screenshot of Android 3.0 running on Nexus One and – this just might be a fake one. Though, none of us are sure. We know how easy it is to fake the version and build of Android, don’t we?

PSX4Droid 1.0 brings an Android PlayStation emulator to the mobile platform, which actually works well.

Console emulators for mobile platforms are nothing new. NES emulators are the most common ones available for Symbian, jailbroken iPhone OS and Android, but a PlayStation One emulator is something new!

This app isn’t free, unfortunately, but if it manages to play every PlayStation One game (and also PSP games someday), then who would need a PSP when you have an Android phone/tablet? It just requires the ROMs and PS BIOS files like you need in PS emulators for computers.

Android PlayStation Emulator, PSX4Droid 1.0

HTC confirmed the rumours today of their own display technology which is called Super LCD. SLCD screens will go head to head with the AMOLED display screens.

HTC said they will be replacing the AMOLED screens of HTC Desire and Nexus One with the new SLCDs. HTC has not shown any demo units with the new screens, so we’re not yet sure how better/worse they will be.

These new SLCDs will bring power management improvements which we all know is a big issue with all the high-end devices. HTC Desire and Nexus One with Super LCDs will hit the stores later this summer!

A couple of months back, a hack was discovered which allowed you to record 720p HD videos on the Nexus One.

The same hack was discovered in HTC Desire as well. But wouldn’t it be better if the same videos can be watched in 3D as well? How cool will that be!

We all know about YouTube’s experiments with 3D videos. You can convert any HD video into 3D by putting in the 3D  tag in your video tags. Just follow the simple steps below to enable 3d on YouTube for your Nexus One videos.

• Record a video in 720p from Nexus One.
• Upload it on YouTube

How to Watch Nexus One 720p Videos in 3D on YouTube

If you are a Samsung fan waiting for the release of its latest flagship smartphone, the 4G Galaxy S, we have great news for you. The 4G Galaxy S may be released with Sprint in the US in the month of August, with a possibility being a release before August 20, 2010. This supposed launch date is being reported all over the web because of the fact that the Epic 4G from Sprint (Galaxy S) is scheduled to debut on the On Demand Live Show website on August 20th.

Moreover, Samsung also updated its twitter status with the new one being the announcement that “..Sprint Epic 4G arriving in a few weeks, it’s the 4G #GalaxyS”. Although none of the above two statements can be considered as an official release date from the smartphone company, but they are pointing the way in which direction things are going and there is a high probability that the Galaxy S would arrive by August 20, 2010. Samsung Epic 4G To Be Released by August 20?

Microsoft has been slowly unveiling details about its upcoming smartphone operating system, the Windows Mobile 7. Yesterday, it announced that all Microsoft employees will be getting free Windows Mobile 7 smartphones and today announced the names of the hardware partners which will be launching Windows Mobile 7 on their smartphone platforms.

Greg Sullivan, senior product manager for Microsoft, while talking to online weblog Pocket-Lint stated that smartphones from Dell, Asus, LG, HTC, and Samsung will be coming out with Windows Mobile 7 when it is launched later this year. Dell would be launching its Windows Mobile 7 based device, Dell Lightning. Along with that, Mr. Sillivan also hinted that LG will also be releasing a renamed Panther running on Microsoft’s latest mobile operating system. With Samsung and HTC also confirm launching smartphones, things are look steady for Windows Mobile 7. Furthermore, the product manager of Microsoft also stressed that Microsoft will not be limiting its new operating system to just a few carriers in the US and the UK. “We want as many people as possible to be able to get it”, Sullivan told Pocket-lint.

He also said that Microsoft will be providing features which are the best of the best with Windows Mobile 7. “We will offer the best aspects of Android and the best of the iPhone, giving users the flexibility of different form factors, but with the rigidity of apps that are guaranteed to work on every device that is out there. By the time we will launch, we won’t have to worry about stealing customers from other operating systems, there will a new wave of smartphone users to embrace for us to still be successful”.

Microsoft Confirms Windows Phone 7 Launch Partners

Nokia X6, the phone that was announced back at the Nokia World 2009, is the first Nokia touchscreen phone with a capacitive screen. Nokia had previously released several touchscreen models, but they all had resistive screens.

I have had the phone since a few days and now decided to do a review on what this Nokia multimedia powerhouse is actually like. It is powered by Symbian 5th edition and comes in two flavours, 16GB and 32GB models. I have Nokia X6-00 (16GB black) model.

Nokia X6 Review

I’ll try to cover different aspects of the phone, it’s features and my observations while using and playing with this phone.

Nokia X6 Specifications

• Display: 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen (360 x 640 pixels)
• Processor: ARM 11, 434 MHz CPU (when will Nokia learn? ARM 11 sucks!)
• Camera: 5 MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics, dual LED flash, secondary camera
• Video: Video recording at 30 fps (VGA resolution)
• Memory: 128MB RAM, 16GB/32GB internal memory, no microSD slot
• Connectivity: Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi, microUSB
• Other: Ovi integration, Flash Lite support, A-GPS, FM Radio, 3.5 mm jack, TV out, accelerometer
• Battery: 1320 mAh Li Ion
• OS: Symbian OS v9.4, S60 5th Edition

Now let’s take a closer look at these features and how they actually perform on the Nokia X6.

Display

Nokia X6 is the first Nokia phone to offer capacitive touchscreen display. Well, capacitive is what Nokia says, but honestly, this is not the best of capacitive screens I’ve seen. It skips a lot and at some places it uses double tap and single at some. The screen is bright and is fine to use during sunlight. It offers the standard on-screen keyboard (QWERTY only in landscape mode) and typing on Nokia X6 gave no issues.

The OS offers three homescreen modes that you can use and customize according to your needs. Widget support like in the Nokia N97 and N97 mini would have made it better! The 16:9 widescreen display is optimized for watching photos and videos, which is something it did well.

Processor

It is powered by the ARM 11 434 MHz processor, which is, pretty slow when compared to other smartphones of its era i.e Motorola Droid, Nokia E72 etc. A 600 MHz should have been put in this device.

I have no idea why, but Nokia has been pushing the ARM 11 CPUs in all it’s phones! It is very old and needs a major refresh with something new and much faster. Just fill the Nokia X6 with several hundred photos and music files, and watch how life becomes hell when using this phone. I first experienced this issue with my Nokia N96, which is now kept somewhere deep inside my cupboard.

Camera

Nokia X6 features a 5 megapixels camera with Carl Zeiss optics and also a front-facing secondary camera for video calling. At the back, next to the 5MP camera, there is a dual LED flash too.

The 5 megapixels camera of Nokia X6 takes mediocre photos, where sometimes the colours look washed out! My Nokia N96 with a 5megapixels camera takes way better photos, and when compared with the Nokia E72, even that 5 megapixels camera beats Nokia X6’s.

Video

Videos recorded from the Nokia X6 are at 30 FPS (VGA resolution). Just like the photos taken from it, the video quality is not very good and colours look washed out.

Memory

128MB RAM, seriously Nokia? Even the low end smartphones now come with at least 256MB of RAM. This could be the main reason why Nokia X6 is slow, sluggish and failed to do good at sales.

Nokia X6 comes in two flavours, 16GB and 32GB models. No memory card slot for additional memory.

Connectivity

Nokia X6 offers several connectivity options such as Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, WiFi and microUSB support. Direct TV output is also included which is one useful feature for viewing photos and videos on your TV. Unfortuanetely, the TV out cable is not included in the box. I used the cable that came with my Nokia N96 to try out!

Battery

This phone is powered by 1320 mAh Li Ion battery which gives about 16 days stand-by time and 35 hours music playback. But when actually in the hands of a heavy user like me, the battery lasted only 7-8 hours with web-browsing, music and Gravity (Twitter app) running.

Other

Nokia X6 comes with direct Ovi integration for keeping up with your Ovi Mail, Contacts and other services. A-GPS is also included along with accelerometer.

Nokia X6 Hands-On Review

The new Motorola Droid X is facing a lot of troubles lately. First, the users reported that they are facing screen issues with Droid X and now, it’s Wi-Fi. Droid X users report that they are facing problems connecting to Wi-Fi network and poor performance once the connections is established.

There is no fixed solution released till now and there is no word from Motorola and Verizon about this issue. But several users report that changing the encryption mode from AES to TKIP resolves the issue to some extent. Many users also mentioned that changing the router from 802.11n to 802.11g reduces the number of disconnects users encounter.

Lets wait and see if all the users are facing these problems and what the companies have to say about this issue.

Motorola Droid X Face Wi-Fi Connectivity Problems

First the release of the Droid X made breaking news over the web and smartphone following media, and immediately after that, the scores of problems, most notably screen issues made it to the headlines with the Droid X. Several people claimed to face problem of flickering and banding with the new Droid X’s touchscreen (some even uploaded videos on YouTube to prove the problem they had). The situation was becoming gloomy for both Motorola and Verizon Wireless after they had enjoyed a great few days of the release of the smartphone with nearly all stores out of stock and devoid of Droid X.

Today however, Verizon, the official cellular carrier of the flagship smartphone came up with a statement in response to the screen issues faced by the users. The words from the carrier are surely compelling and satisfying for all the users of Droid X. The statement read as follows:

“Verizon Wireless and Motorola are aware of a very small number of DROID X units that have experienced a flickering or banding display. Motorola has resolved the issue and is continuing to ship the phones. Any consumer who experiences a flickering or banding display should contact a Motorola customer support center or Verizon Wireless.”

Surely a sigh of relief for everyone who has recently acquired a Droid X. So if you have seen any of the above mentioned problems with your Droid’s screen, immediately contact the customer support center to get the earliest possible solution to the problem. Verizon Responds to Motorola Droid X Screen Problems

Adobe and Google’s Android smartphone operating system are going hand in hand these days. The Android 2.2 update added support for Adobe’s Flash 10.1 (something which Apple has decided never to include in its iOS) and seems like Adobe is returning the favor to Google.

Adobe is releasing its newest app development platform, the Adobe AIR 2.5 for Android OS which will let users publish ActionScript 3 projects to run as native applications (.apk) in Android. Apps developed and published using AIR will be available in Android Market.

However, the focus today is not Air 2.5, but rather a few nifty little things which will accompany the AIR release when Adobe officially launches it. According to the official Adobe Flash blog, FlashTime, P2P video calling app would be introduced by Adobe in Adnroid 2.2 come their release of the AIR development platform. This news, also covered by Droid Life weblog, that the Flash supported video calling app will have support for camera, microphone and speakers as well. For more details, check out the action below.

Adobe Air 2.5 for Android to Support P2P Video Chat

Motorola got a lifeline in the smartphone industry when its latest smartphone, the Droid X received a huge ovation on its release date and had overwhelming sales on its initial days of release. Online stores such as Best Buy and Verizon Wireless (the official carrier of Moto Droid X) reported stock shortages because of the huge demand of the smartphone following its launch in the US smartphone market.

However, it seems that situation will not be so ideal for Motorola any longer as users have just started to point out some serious flaws in the device. The biggest one yet which has been found is the screen and graphics display faults which the users are facing in their brand new devices not even before they’ve settled down in using their new Android running smartphone. Users re reporting that Motorola Droid X’s 4.3 inch FWVGA LCD screen causes flickering and sometimes vertical banding also occurs when used for some period of time.

Pocket Lint also came across a YouTube video of a disgusted Droid X owner who showed the problems his device was having for the whole world to see. From the video’s description one gets to know that this particular user took his Droid X for a replacement but has to wait until July 28, 2010 because of the smartphone being out of stock till then.

Is the new screen problem with Droid X a continuation of the saga of problems which every new major smartphone is facing these days (remember the iPhone Antennagate drama?). One never knows. Stay tuned to find out!

Motorola Droid X Users Report Screen Issues

The wait for Android 2.2 operating system to be supported officially by HTC on its Desire smartphone through an over-the-air update is getting longer and longer by each passing second. Hackers and Linux developers are now constantly coming up with builds of Android 2.2 which can be easily ported and run efficiently on the HTC Desire before the OTA update comes flying in to Desire users.

The most recent effort in this regard has been the Unrevoked tool which can bring a custom built version of Android 2.2 on HTC Desire. The official statement about Unrevoked at its official site says the following information about the tool: “unrevoked3 is a tool to flash a custom recovery image to your Android phone. A custom recovery image allows you to perform advanced tasks on the system partition, such as flashing custom ROMs and taking a full backup of your phone (a “nandroid” backup)”.

The utility is now available for several operating system platforms which include Microsoft Windows (XP, Vista, 7), Apple’s Mac OS X operating system, and open source flavors of Linux. What’s great about the utility that not only it ports the Android 2.2 on HTC Desire, but it also ports it efficiently on other HTC smartphones which are in line waiting for the awaiting the OTA official Android 2.2 update (only Nexus One is getting OTA update right now). The other smartphones which can have Android 2.2 through Unrevoked 3.1 are:

• Sprint HTC Evo 4G (HTC Supersonic)
• Droid Incredible (HTC Incredible)
• HTC Desire
• HTC Aria
• Droid Eris

Although users of HTC Legend and Wildfire are still out of luck as this tool currently doesn’t support these two HTC smartphones. So if you’re a Wildfire or Legend users, we urge you to wait eagerly as the support might just be added soon enough.

Android 2.2 Ported to HTC Deisre Via Unrevoked 3.1

No operating system, be it a desktop one or for a handheld device, can be complete without a good web browser. Recently, the Beta version of the browser SkyFire 2.2 was released Google’s Android operating system. The version number to be exact is 2.2.0.18794; the new version brings several improvements to its predecessor SkyFire 2.1.

SkyFire 2.2 supports GeoLocation, therefore enabling pages like Google Maps, which use the GeoLocation feature will be fully working with SkyFire 2.2. The search system for SkyDrive is also enhanced with results from multiple engines like Google, Twitter, Amazon are displayed. More search engines will be added in the near future. Also, SkyFire will be set as the default browser for Android version 1.5 to 2.1, with Android 2.2 not included in that list. The browser also contains support for Flash 10.1 and the user interface (UI) is improved to provide a sleeker and smoother browsing interface on Android 2.2. The video zoom features have been enhanced; especially for the HTC devices and also fixes some crash related issues and bug fixes.

Being a Beta release, there are some issues with SkyFire 2.2, with the major ones being popular video streaming service Hulu not working on SkyFire 2.2. However, rather than a technical issue, this is somewhat of a platform problem since Hulu says, “Hulu does not have the rights to support content for mobile devices and thus is blocking Skyfire.” Other issues include finding videos and getting stuck on 25%.

However, things are bound to improve when the final version of SkyFire 2.2 is released in the near future. Meanwhile, the Beta can be downloaded from the Android Market.

Skyfire 2.2 for Android Released

Rumors about HTC releasing another high end smartphone based on Google’s Android operating system are in the air for quite some time. It is now somewhat clear that the rumored phone, dubbed as the HTC Ace will be released under its new alias, Desire HD. Like the currently available HTC Desire, the Desire HD (or Ace as you may still want to call it) will be a high end device from HTC, with features resembling that of the HTC EVO 4G. It is also being improvised that the Desire HD might be a European version of the EVO 4G, with users enjoying everything what the EVO 4G promises to offer except the 4G connectivity.

The alleged technical specifications of the Desire HD include a 4.3 inch multi touch WVGA resolution display, an 8 megapixel camera with the capability to record videos in 720p HD resolutions, a 1GHz Qualcomm processor with Android 2.2 (or later) and 4GB internal memory which can be extended up to 32GB with the help of microSD memory card slot. The physical design of the Desire HD would be similar to HTC Legend’s uni-body Aluminum build (i.e. whole phone crafted from one solid block of Aluminum).

The tentative release date for the Desire HD is suspected to be around October this year, although no official announcement has been made in this regard by HTC.

HTC Desire HD Specs Revealed [Rumor]

Motorola’s smartphone manufacturing ship is slowly going down in the waters, with desperate attempts being made to save the looming giant, with the Droid X being an example. However, another corner stone has now hit Motorola with reports surfacing, yet again, that Motorola’s flagship smartphones,

Droid and Devour might be nearing their ‘end-of-life’. This is not the first time such a date has been promised for these devices. DroidForums, a popular online forum for all Droid related news caught some internal screens showing both of the devices as having status “limited” and with “no remaining shipments” from the vendor.

With the upcoming inception of the latest Droid 2, Motorola’s next smartphone to carry the company through 2010, the rumors can be called somewhat more reliable than the ones before them. Droid 2 will be essentially replacing the aging old Droid which came out in November 2009 and an upgrade after 9 months means a good bye to the predecessor.

For now, all we have to support the statement is a screen shot, supposedly from the vendor shipping these devices and only time will tell when the Droid really meets its end.

There is good news for all those who were waiting for iOS 4.0.1 jailbreak. iH8Sn0w has announced that he will releasing an update Snowbreeze 1.8 which can be used to jailbreak iOS 4.0.1. However, no estimated release date has been announced yet.

Samsung has been making its way through the smartphone market by releasing good quality smartphone devices into the market pool at regular interval. Equipped with one of the latest specs for today’s handheld smart devices, the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone created waves of interests from users around the globe when it was released. The smartphone is slowly increasing its worth in the Asian market and is selling like hot cakes in Korea, Samsung’s original home country.

Samsung, with their Galaxy S smartphone have managed to sell 100,000 units during the first six days of availability in Korea, a very promising number considering the supremacy of the iPhone in the Korean smartphone market. Also, the higher end Android-based Galaxy S has made 300,000 unit sales during the first 19 days of its launch, providing Samsung with the necessary platform to launch new smartphones aimed at the Korean market. The handset is available in Korea on the SK Telecom cellular service provider and the Korean users have made the Galaxy S the biggest hit of Samsung as compared to other parts of the world where Samsung has not dominated the market share by its Galaxy S release.

Keeping in view the great reception for the device, Samsung has reported that they will be upgrading the phone in the near future, possibly by the mid of August to Google Android 2.2 Froyo, the latest mobile operating system offered by Google. However, this offer still remains for the Korean users only as the multi-national giant hasn’t let open any plans of upgrading the devices being used and sold in other regions of the world. This includes the launch of Galaxy S in the United States 2 days from now under the flag of T-Mobile as its official carrier.

However, one should expect the Froyo upgrade to the Galaxy S to non-Korean markets in the near future as well.

Samsung Galaxy S Sells 300,000 Units in Korea, Expected to Get Froyo by August

After the release of the innovative tablet made by Apple, the iPad, there has been a lot of fuss going on over the internet about competitors of Apple in the handheld device market coming up with similar solutions. One of the most talked about tablet, which has been on the rumor sheet since early May is the possible tablet being released by Research In Motion (RIM), makers of the popular line of smartphones known as BlackBerry.

Recently, news about this new RIM tablet have surfaced which most significantly highlight its ability to connect to a BlackBerry smartphone’s 3G connection to access the web when WiFi isn’t an option. Further down the road, reports suggest that the tablet would boast a 7-inch screen and will run on a 1GHz Marvell Armada 610 chip. To bring video calling on the spec sheet (unlike the Apple iPad which is devoid of a camera), this tablet is also rumored to have dual cameras, a front mounted camera making video calls possible and a back camera for some photography. Reports also suggest that the display would be a full 1080p HD, along with 3D graphics capability!

The estimated date of arrival for this RIM tablet is supposedly by the end of the fourth quarter of 2010.

It has been almost two weeks since the much awaited Apple device, iPhone 4 was released. Who thought bots would be guiding us where to find a place for Parking? Guess what, Google is here to serve the cause. Today Google released a new app for their Android operating system titled Open Spot. This app would let users find a vacant spot for parking by marking any nearby spot so other users can see and approach it. This is similar to the you-help-me-i-help-you system, in which users parking the car will indicate on their app all the nearby vacant parking spots which will be seen by other users using the same app and present in the area to get a chance to park their vehicles at the marked spot.

This free application comes from Google Labs, and is available as a free download (download the app here). The UI is simple, with parking spots marked by others viewable in different colors, icons distinguished by the fact that how long ago the parking spot was marked by a user near it. A red dot signifies a freshly-marked spot, while orange pin shows the spot marked 5 minutes ago. A yellow pin represents a spot marked 10 minutes ago. When 20 minutes have passed (which seems a little bit long especially in busy downtown areas with a lot of people coming and going) and the spot mark hasn’t been removed yet, it will be automatically be removed from showing on other users’ Open Spot app.

An issue comes here of the false spots being marked, may be out of fun by users to for some mischief, causing people problems. However, Google addresses this issue in the FAQ for the Open Spot app and says that they’ve got some mechanisms to make sure that this kind of situation doesn’t arise. Google has also setup a karma based reward based system for users who correctly mark free spots, and while initially no reward is being given out to users, one can surely expect the Open Spot development team to introduce one in the near future. The total coverage area in which the vacant marked spots would be seen by the users is set to be 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles). The application updates the maps location as the user moves.

Google Releases OpenSpot for Android to Find Empty Parking Spot

The Chinese government doesn’t like Google. This is why China’s internet is barred from everything which is Google. China is probably the only place on earth where Google is struggling to do well. Recently however, there was good news for Google that despite their grievances, the Chinese internet regulatory authority has renewed Google’s license (as an Internet Content Provider (ICP)) which will allow the search giant to continue its operation in China as a search engine.

Because of the censorship problems faced by Google on its China based domain (Google.cn), Google was redirecting traffic from its .cn domain to its Hong Kong based uncensored domain (google.com.hk) which allegedly wasn’t appreciated by the Chinese government and threatened Google its ICP license at the time of renewal if Google didn’t stop the practice. Google adopted a new way of coming out of the situation and placed a link on its China search page which would allow users to manually redirect their search queries to Google Hong Kong. This link, as reported by the Google Blog worked its magic and had Google its ICP license renewed.

“We are very pleased that the government has renewed our ICP license and we look forward to continuing to provide web search and local products to our users in China,” wrote Google’s chief legal officer, David Drummond.

YouTube Mobile Redesigned for All Mobile Devices

Mozilla is a typical open source software developing organization; they keep their heads down and work hard on bringing out great new things for their users without any fuss, and of course free! The company behind world’s fastest growing and currently the second most used internet browser, the Mozilla Firefox just released the latest Beta of their infamous browser for Mac Users. The Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 1 for Mac OS X is built on top of the company’s new Gecko 2.0 layout engine.

The Beta 1, weighing in at 20.2MB introduces the crash protection feature for users to continue their browsing sessions in case there is a crash in the Adobe Flash, Apple Quicktime or Microsoft Silverlight plugins for Firefox. The Beta also introduces a new Add-ons manager along with several other features such as WebSockets support, a new HTML 5 parser, a Web Console analysis tool, native support for the HD HTML5 WebM video format. Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 1 Released

Twitter is the home to almost every social networking geeks of today’s internet world. Whoever wants to interact with people online, it is almost like a religious practice to have a twitter account for that. However, with so much buzz on Twitter day in and day out, problems and glitches do arise.

Yesterday, several users, including developers who’re subscribed to twitter saw problems with the @replies functionality in Twitter. They reported that there were missing @replies in Twitter streams. The problem was took up by the Twitter administration immediately with Twitter infrastructure engineer John Kalucki writing in the forum that the timelines being reported by the users and developers with missing @replies were facing additional latency issue and the problem would be solved soon. However, after hours of the confirmation, streams continued to miss @replies.

Now Twitter has just confirmed that @replies have disappeared from some timelines due to unknown reasons and that they’re working hard to resolve the issue. A latest post from Twitter states that, “Some users are experiencing an issue in which they’re not receiving all of their @ replies; we’re working on a fix.” The source of the problem is unclear, and it might be due to the heavy traffic Twitter has been receiving due to the FIFA Football World Cup 2010. However, this seems rather unlikely since there was no World Cup game yesterday and the problem originated when traffic load could be assumed to be normal.

However, let’s hope that the issue gets resolved before the next match of the World Cup so users don’t have to face any more inconveniences in this regard.

YouTube has been the attention for all lately. This also includes hackers and problem creators over the web who spread mischief through their wrong doings. There have been several attempts in the past from hackers to gain unauthorized access to YouTube and tamper with its services. A recent example of such an attack took place when today hacker(s) targeted YouTube again, attempting to exploit a security loophole and mingle with the Justin Bieber videos present on YouTube. This is not a one of its kind attack, as hackers have also picked up on Justin Bieber videos over the internet before as well.

This time, a security exploit has led YouTube users to receive annoying popups, redirections to explicit content websites like “One Man, One Jar” and spam comments on Justin Bieber videos announcing that Justin Bieber has died.

The responsibility of the attack on YouTube has been taken up by a group of hackers from the infamous website 4chan who claim that, “Today is a reminder that we can still shake the foundation of the Internet.”

Google and YouTube management has taken actions and patched the exploit and sent an official word of confirmation that the loophole has been sealed off. The message read: ”We took swift action to fix a cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability on youtube.com that was discovered several hours ago. Comments were temporarily hidden by default within an hour, and we released a complete fix for the issue in about two hours. We’re continuing to study the vulnerability to help prevent similar issues in the future.”

YouTube Hacked, Justin Bieber Suffered the Most

LG, one of the few Korean multinational is today’s leading electronic product manufacturer. They have ventured into every domain of consumer electronics and now also taken the first steps in the world of smartphones. The company has launched an ambitious program for launching up to 20 Android phones in the year 2010.Following this goal, LG has today announced the release of two of its Android smartphones; LG Optimus Chic and LG Optimus One. Both the smartphones will be running Android 2.2 Froyo. The smartphone will be available in South Korea only, at least for a start.

The smartphones are targeted at young aged consumers with limited budgets. The technical specs of the devices haven’t been unveiled but there are pictures released for the devices which speak of the design and some of the visible specs. The design of the smartphone clearly speaks of the audience targeted by LG with these devices, as the slick edges along with funky looking build attracts the tech-savvy youth of today.

Along with these smartphones, LG has also announced that it will be releasing a tablet running on Android operating system by the last quarter of 2010. The company also announced that it will update its popular LG Optimus Z (SU950 / KU9500) to Android 2.2 in the near future.

LG Announces Android 2.2 Based Optimus One and Optimus Chic Smartphone

Qualcomm has started testing their dual-CPU Snapdragon processors on devices and one such device is out to one of it’s partners (I’m eagerly waiting for a leaked video or photo – hehe!).

One such device which is rumoured to have this new dual-CPU processor is the HTC Vision. No, we can’t be sure of Qualcomm sent the sampling piece to HTC or some other partner, but this device will be a beast for sure!

HTC Vision is rumoured to have a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, Android 3.0 and a 16 megapixels camera (woah!). Vision is expected for this holiday season, where HTC will be unveil a new “screen technology we have never seen before” featured on this device. We just talked about how HTC might be working on their own display technology… True, eh?

HTC Vision Specifications, Dual-CPU Snapdragon Processor

The rumours mill just keep on filling till we see the official announcement! Now the next rumour we have, is of HTC Sabor, a device being cooked up at HTC which will feature a 2GHz processor and will be one of the first devices to have Android 3.0 “Gingerbread” on board.

Sounds to good to be true, eh? But you never know! The rumours don’t end here! it is also said that HTC might be working on their own display technology to bring on the fight with Super AMOLED and LCD displays.

Android 3.0 is being rumoured to have a revamped interface, and will come with a requirement to work only on devices with over 1GHz processors.

HTC Sabor is rumoured to come to Sprint by the end of this year, or early 2011. Rumours, rumours and rumours – they never end. Only time will tell how far these rumours are true.

Won’t it be awesome to use a mobile phone, powered with Android 3.0 OS and running on a 2GHz CPU? It sure will!

Yahoo! Search Includes Real Time Search Suggestions

Okay, now we’ve seen a lot of over-the-air (OTA) updates in the past week. Nexus One users got Android 2.2 update over the air with HTC legend, Desire and Wildfire next in line for OTA updates. Adding to the OTA mania, Droid Incredible users should also get ready for an OTA soon to reach their Droid Incredible smartphone. This update will introduce new features to the Drioid Incredible which were not present when the device was initially launched back in April 2010.

Droid Incredible OTA Update to Bring 720p Video and Mobile Hotspot?

Nokia, in order to re-engage and regain support of their Symbian-liking fans and customers has decided to create a smartphone, preferably a top-of-the-line N-series handset which would be running on Symbian^4 operating system. The decision to take this move has been taken keeping in view the ever decreasing customer base of Nokia’s Symbian OS operated devices.

Nokia is releasing, in the near future, its latest N8 smartphone which will be the only device in the N-series operating on the Symbian^3 OS. Nokia is also developing an operating system in collaboration with Intel, named MeeGo, which aims towards the “computers of the future”.

Nokia is sticking to Symbian as its preferred operating system platform despite poor choices in the recent past. Nokia N900, one of Nokia’s flagship smartphone in the market today has a unique status now among smartphones. The smartphone, being a non-Android operating system device is among the first smartphones (along with HTC’s Nexus One) which gets Android 2.2 Froyo. Obviously, this feat was achieved through hacks, but this is the most successful hack done as the device seems to work seamlessly with Android 2.2 running on it. Hulu, one of the most popular video streaming service besides Youtube has decided to charge its user fee to view HD content. This paid subscription plan will have users paying $10 per month in order to gain access to HD content on Hulu.

Hulu feature which makes it distinct from other streaming service providers is that it allows users to access its services on a wide variety of devices. It is available to standard desktop PC users, users of the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The service is also available on TV, with selected models of Samsung, Sony and Vizio and gaming consoles like Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PlayStation 3. Hulu is working constantly to add more devices into its service pool.

The Xbox 360 service will be launched in early 2011 as confirmed by Larry Hryb (Major Nelson), Director of Programming for Xbox Live.  “We are taking the time to ensure that the Hulu Plus experience for Xbox 360 is the best on TV and like our other entertainment experiences, it will not be a port, but rather a custom experience that leverages the Xbox Live community features”, said the Director. Hulu Plus Announced for iPhone, iPod Touch And iPad

Cisco, a popular multinational corporation that designs and sells consumer electronics and focuses on networking devices has decided to take a swim into the great ocean of tablet electronic devices. In an official press release today, Cisco Systems announced that they’ll be joining a vast majority of companies worldwide who develop and sell tablets. The new tablet named “Cisco Cius” is slated for an early 2011 release and will feature Google’s Android operating system.

According to Cisco, the new tablet will “delivers virtual desktop integration with anywhere, anytime access to the full range of Cisco collaboration and communication applications, including HD video.” The tablet will feature a full 720p HD camera, and a 5 megapixel back mounted camera. Other features will include Bluetooth, USB, 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and 3G cellular service. 4G support will be added in the near future.

Along with all the hardware features offered by Cisco, the tablet users will be able to access Android applications on the market place. Device APIs and SDK will also be released by Cisco so developers can make applications for the device. Cisco has denied any rumors that iPad was the motivating factor for the release of tablet. Cisco Introduces Android Based Tablets for Enterprises

There has been so much speculation around for Motorola’s Droid 2 smartphone. Dubbed to challenge the iPhone with its features and quality, the Droid 2 has created huge interest from fans and critics alike on how it is going to perform when put against the iPhone 4. With Verizon wireless backing the Droid 2 as its official carrier, the competition is just going to get that little bit harder due to AT&T having the iPhone 4 supported.

News is over the web that Motorola Droid 2 will be launched by Verizon Wireless on August 23, 2010 and the big news is that it is going to have Android 2.2 as its operating system. Currently no smartphone is shipping with Android 2.2 and the Droid 2 will be the first one to have Android 2.2 out of the box. It is also speculated that an August release date is chosen for the sole reason so as to ensure that it ships with Android 2.2 operating system. The original Droid is expected to see Android 2.2 in late July and the Droid X will get it in August. Both Droid X and Droid 2 have identical hardware specifications and the software running on both the devices will be the same as well come August.

Verizon Wireless hasn’t announced any official pricing details for the Droid 2, but it is expected that it will ship at $199 with a 2 year contract.

Motorola Droid 2 will Launch on 23rd August with Android 2.2?

Samsung has been in the limelight for some time now with their new lineup of smartphones. First the Galaxy S 9000 was announced a few weeks back with Samsung aiming to crack the smartphone market share in its favor. The news today from Samsung is that they’re teaming up with Sprint for another Galaxy S smartphone device. The phone is named Epic 4G.

This smartphone features a 4-inch touchscreen, Samsung Hummingbird processor, a fully featured QWERTY keyboard and 5-megapixel 720p HD capable camera. Equipped with 16GB microSD flash memory (expandable upto 32GB), 1GB ROM and 512MB RAM along with a 1500maH battery, the phone will run on Google’s Android 2.1 operating system along with Touch Viz 3.0. Not much of a difference from the Galaxy S device announced earlier, although, Sprint is stressing that Android 2.2 will be made available on phone ‘in the near future’. The Epic 4G will also have a front facing VGA camera for video calls.

The big difference which comes with this new smartphone is that it will be equipped to work on Sprint’s rapidly expanding 4G network. Although no exact price and availability details are available yet, keep your fingers crossed as Samsung and Sprint will be announcing this very, very soon!

Samsung and Sprint Announces Samsung Epic 4G

Nokia has stayed as the front runner in the smartphone market with its N-xx series of smartphones. The N-9x series has been the companies’ flagship line of high-end smartphones which feature high-tech specs, shiny devices and lots of digits on the price tag. Word is out about Nokia’s newest QWERTY keyboard enabled smartphone.

And it doesn’t end there; we’ve got a picture of this baby for you as well:

Probably to be named as N-98 or N8 plus QWERTY, call it whatever you like but this smartphone has an 8 megapixel camera riding on its back along with 850/1900 3G support. Also rumored is the “ridiculous screen clarity” with this smartphone. Has Nokia surpassed Apple’s Retina display with this thing? Not quite sure yet. From the picture above, it seems this device also runs on Symbian operating system, despite Nokia’s claims that they won’t be using Symbian as the default operating system for their next N-9x series smartphones. This is surely an ambiguity which will be resolved in the few coming days.

To end, take a look at the “CO” label at the upper left corner of this device and ponder if it’s a member of any upcoming series by Nokia. Happy thinking.
