There are not many television shows that I watch nowadays. It is rare that any of them actually give me fashion inspiration. However, I found it in Tuesday night's episode of Cougar Town. Yes, I said Cougar Town. Watch "Lover's Touch" and see what a great show it is and check out the outfit that inspired this post:

At the end of Tuesday's episode, Busy Philipps character Laurie Keller wore a very casual chic number. The coral strapless top and bright cobalt jeans were a stunning combination. Tickled Pink For Spring

Well, spring is a few weeks away. LITERALLY! While Pantone may have Tangerine Tango as the color of 2012, another color has stolen the show for spring makeup. Think Pink, lovelies!

The great thing about pink this spring is that it doesn't matter which shade or intensity your choose. You can go with the palest pink like Urban Decay's SWF Single Shadow or as deep as Edward Bess' Compact Rogue for Lips and Cheeks in After Sunset. The key to wearing pink successfully this spring is not go monochromatic with it. If you want that pink flush all over, wear different shades and intensities. Go matte for cheeks, shimmer for eyes and creamy for lips. Or play up one feature with pink.

Also, consider pink as the new red for evening. Emma Stone's Oscar beauty is the inspiration to go for. Her rose petal pout was deep enough to complement her stunning Giambattista Valli couture gown. Her cheeks a soft creamy pink and her eyes where swept with a whisper of pink shadow and winged eyeliner. The look was flawlessly elegant with just right amount of drama to be noticeable.

Honestly, I think more people may be willing to shop at JCPenney with this new "everyday" price strategy. they may as well since former budget friendly retailer Kohl's is becoming more expensive. They have fashion show costs to recoup from their showing at New York Fashion Week.

Michael Kors is "The Man" and Video Highlights from Days 6 and 7 at New York Fashion Week

"Who's the man with the fashion plan?" Michael Kors of course! Season after season he amazes me even when he designs looks that make me raise a quizzical brow or frown. I think what I like most about this fashion designer is that he is fun-loving and personable. He showed this side once again at New York Fashion Week Fall 2012.

Michael Kors made the live streaming of his Fall 2012 collection a media event that not just welcomed those in attendance into his world but those of us who could not be there front and center. His bubbly personality is hard not to like and the enthusiasm he shows for his craft is endearing. He also gave us virtual attendees a treat by taking snapshots of looks we liked as they walked down the runway. We could then tweet or post these snapshots on Facebook to share with our friends and followers. Just for that Michael Kors rocked yesterday. Check out highlights from his Fall 2012 collection and be amazed. Check out the bodysuits! Although under a jacket, one of them looked like Candace was wearing booty shorts (don't shoot me!).

Side Note: Although, Michael or anyone from the Michael Kors camp, if you happen to read this, make sure that the auto-message you generate for the tweets displays the correct season because some people were confused by the tweets saying it was the spring/summer collection. Yikes!

I need to make note of this for the Anna Sui Fall 2012 Collection. Well this probably pertains to just about all of her collections. Have you ever noticed that the models seem genuinely happy to walk her runway in her clothing? This is rare, as most catwalks feature straight or somber faced models. It is always refreshing to watch a Anna Sui show for this reason alone.

Donna Karan Once Again Proves That Ladies Can Be Sexy

Now reading the title of this post may seem kind of odd at first. We all know that females can be sexy. However, if this is how you understood the title then I have some 'splaining to do for you, Lucy.

On Day 5 of New York Fashion Week Donna showcased her signature collection. The Donna Karan signature line is all about being a independent, confident lady who is sexy as heck! Notice I used the word lady again. The reason for this that a lady is sophisticated, always poised, well-mannered, fashionable and feminine. She can be a proper miss but is sometimes mistaken for a prude. There is one aspect of being a lady that many forget, ladies are very sexy but never sleazy or trashy.

Now that you know a little bit of what a lady is, take a gander at Donna Karan's signature collection over the years. This line is all about dressing ladies in a manner that emphasizes her sophistication and sexiness whether it be in a business suit or evening gown. Donna Karan knows how to do this well. She knows where to stop a hemline hike, she knows that the shoulders can be the sexiest, most seductive part on a woman and at times she may push the envelope by baring a bit of lower back, side waist or at showtime not using a modesty piece for a layered sheer top -- oh my. Overall, her signature collection is made to fit a woman's body and is for the modern-day lady.

Fall 2012 Catwalk Reel: HIghlights From the Weekend's Best at New York

This runway report combines shows from both Saturday and Sunday. So instead of me creating one long as heck post detailing why I feel this collection was best and why this one wasn't, I will let these highlights from this weekend's best shows speak for themselves. Enjoy!

The Ladies Were On Top for Days 3 and 4

These are my picks for the best and the ones worthy of a mention based upon aesthetic, potential marketability, wearability and presentation.

Other shows worth noting that did make the highlights dropped the ball when it came to presentation. I loved the individual garments in the Tracy Reese collection, however whoever, styled the looks for the show must have had some personal issues going on because a lot of the pairings did not do the pieces justice. The other is Falguni and Shane Peacock. I devoted a whole blog post about what was wrong with presentation of that collection.

Falguni and Shane Peacock's Beautiful Yet Awkward Fall 2012 Presentation At New York

Ever sit through a movie, presentation, play etc. and thought it was good or okay but something about it was awkward? That is how I felt watching Falguni and Shane Peacock's Fall 2012 collection on Day 4. The garments were aesthetically pleasing to me. A few quite lovely, quasi-futuristic looking dresses were seen. However, the way the designs were presented was rather awkward for me.

I don't know if you paid attention to my use of the word lovely when I described the dresses or not. If you paid attention you would notice I did not say they floated down the runway or glided down the catwalk, instead I said presented. I usually reserve this term -- presented -- for actual presentations in which the models are standing still on a platform or stage modeling the garments like mannequins. However, Falguni and Shane displayed their designs on a runway with models walking up and down it.

This is where the awkwardness comes into play. I am thinking these were "new" models not used to the runway. Most of them had awkward walks like the ones you see on America's Next Top Model before Miss J has his way with them. I honestly hate pointing out body types but I feel I must for this. Some of the models did not have the proper body type to display the garments in their best light. Now, I have seen models shaped like some of the ones at this show, however these model knew how to align their body to make the clothing look more attractive. One model in this show looked like a linebacker lumbering down the catwalk. Another walked so darn slow that her cadence affected the flow at which the models came out. It was truly not a good look for such creative designs.

Another thing that made the show awkward was the beauty. High ponytails with makeup that seemed like it belong on a new Star Trek series. It felt alien. Which lead to the feeling that I was watching some sort of Science Fiction B-Movie. Awkwardness aside the designs were creative and some were very attractive. I can see why a lot of singers and musicians flock to this line for semi-formal red carpet dresses.

Nicole Miller Stands Out At New York on Day 2

Before I continue with this post I want to express my sadness over the death of Whitney Houston. She was a great talent and my heart broke upon hearing of her passing. This woman added to the soundtrack of my life and the lives of many others. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family and close friends. Your presence may be gone, but your legacy of music lives on in the hearts of your fans, Whitney.

Three designers reigned supreme on day one of Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. However, one designer took home the fashion gold on day two, Friday, February 10, 2012. Nicole Miller presented a knockout fall collection at day two. For all who know, it is hard for a designer to go wrong when influenced by fashion's favorite decade. Check out the top ensembles from Nicole's fall collection and a few designers who deserve honorable mention.

Watching ensemble after ensemble strut down the runway I almost forgot that I was viewing a collection at New York Fashion Week. The rich browns, supple leathers and craftwork of the Nicole Miller collection reminded me of the work I saw in Milan for spring 2011. It's no surprise as with Milan in spring 2011 the inspiration came from fashion's favorite decade, the 1970s.

While aspects of the collection were taken from the mid 60s to mid 70s the overall feel speaks of the 70s resurgence seen in the early to mid 1990s. For those who can remember or paid attention to fashion back in the 1990s Gianni Versace was the Italian prince of fashion and for me, many portions of Nicole's collection had that 90s-era Versace feel to it. Which, may be why I am partial to this collection. So call me biased, since Gianni Versace is the reason why I wanted to study fashion in the first place.

Your 2012 Valentine's Day Guide

Valentine's Day is Tuesday, February 14th! Ladies, if your man has not gotten you anything, then subtly -- maybe not so subtly -- lead him to this blog post. You just may get a gift you'd like this year.

If jewelry is what you seek, steer him towards a few diamond and pearl pieces that look elegant and are not very expensive (under $150.00). If he really has no clue and is not about to venture to a jewelry store for anything then maybe a few last-minute gift ideas may help him and ultimately you out this Valentine's Day.

Hold up! He is not the only one who needs to get himself together before the day of romance arrives.

Ladies, you need to make sure you are presentable as well. Start off with making sure you attract him on all sensory levels. This includes making sure your fragrance of choice is layered just right to last through the night to tantalize his senses. Since it is still winter, make sure your skin is touchably soft and smooth. If you have a steady man in your life, then you probably already have your Valentine's Day outfit already selected. However, if a date from the hottie you've been eyeing has been offered for that night, then you may be in a pickle on finding the right Valentine's date outfit.

NEW YORK FASHION WEEK THE SCENE: DAY 1 Fall 2012

Day one of Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week got off to a fantastic start Thursday, February 9, 2012. The show to watch hands down was Tadashi Shoji with BCBGMAXAZRIA coming in a close second. I know it may be a bit of a shock to some who have followed this blog to see me write something good about BCBGMAZAZRIA but the line deserves kudos for it's Fall 2012 collection.

THE BEST OF DAY 1: Tadashi Shoji and BCBGMAXAZRIA

While Tadashi Shoji stole the day with his magnificent evening wear collection that had a 1920s feel to it with the dropped-waist silhouettes and draping reminiscent of Fortuny, BCBGMAXAZRIA made me pleasantly surprised for the first time in at least four consecutive seasons.

Lubov created a contemporary sportswear fall collection that hearkens back to what contemporary sportswear is all about. Clean lines that are elegant yet slightly casual that can be worn effortlessly by many women. With colorblocking still a huge trend with the label, they took on a more classic approach with this design technique. Much of the colorblocking was styled in a Mondrian-esque display symmetrically placed on most of garments lending a classic, wearable feel to the collection. This collection while very current also manages to be timeless and I can see the pieces being fashionable for many years to come. So when these items hit stores, they will be an integral addition to any wardrobe.

HONORABLE MENTION: Chadwick Bell and Nicholas K

Chadwick Bell's fall 2012 collection revisited the Mad Men theme popular from last fall -- and what is now a staple of Banana Republic apparently. The office appropriate collection was divine, however the overall look kind of was turned on its ear. You know how a person can be put together almost flawlessly? You know, shoes and purse flow effortlessly with the outfit and makeup matches up sublimely, then the hair kinds of turns the look into a different direction. That is how Chadwick Bell's collection was. You see the hair was styled in a -- once tidy -- bouffant that was slightly mussed. That slightly mussed aspect looked like each model just stepped out of an office meeting room after a steamy make out session with a co-worker or boss. It's almost like the collection could be called "The Lady is a Tramp". However, the juxtaposition of ladylike and sleaze was brilliant, see for yourself.

Ever wonder what a modern-day western set in New York would look like? No? Me either, but Nicholas K answered that question for us anyway. The design duo started the day off on a great fashion note with their Dark Western themed collection. Truffle dark chocolates, lots of fringe, New York black, cowboy hats, spurs, and lots of layering was the look. At times the layering seemed a bit excessive for some of the female models who looked like they may collapse under the weight. The beauty notes of the collection gave way to sleek, blunt bobs with dark makeup. A very stylish and interesting to view collection.

New York Fashion Week Fall 2012 Starts Tomorrow!

Tomorrow, Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week kicks off the four major fashion weeks for the Autumn.Winter 2012/2013 season. This is one of the two busiest times of year for many fashion writers and bloggers.

Starting February 9, 2012 through March 7, 2012 I will be highlighting across several platforms the best from each show with my final analysis to be published in March on Yahoo Voices. In the meantime I will post periodically photos, videos and re-posts from other arenas highlighting fashions from New York, London, Milan and Paris. Beyonce and Jay-Z Welcome baby Carter Into the World Saturday January 7, 2012

It is always exciting when a new life is brought into the world. When that new life belongs to a celebrity, the whole world takes notice and congratulates the proud parents. The new bundle of joy born to Mr. and Mrs. Shawn Carter on January 7, 2012 is no exception.

The Internet is abuzz over the news of the latest celebrity babe born. E!Online reports that Princess Carter's (as auntie Rih(anna) calls her in a tweet) name is Blue Ivy Carter. The baby's name has not been officially confirmed by either parent. However, I am fond of Blue as a girl's name and if she doesn't like Blue she can go by her middle name Ivy.

If anyone is wondering why the name Blue? I ask in turn why not? Think of the names from her mother's side of the family her mother has a non-traditional name (Beyonce) and so does her aunt (Solange). So in the grand scheme of things, Blue sounds quite simple and normal.

Now, I have a feeling baby Blue is going to be a source of inspiration for both mommy and daddy. Who thinks a song or two will debut this year devoted to the little one?

Holiday Beauty Prep: Keeping Skin and Hair Moisturized for a Beautiful Holiday

Christmas and New Years Eve are upon us with a ton of parties planned for work, friends and family the world over. If you are attending a holiday party this year you want to make the best appearance you can. Which means you have to do some skin and hair prep to combat the damage that the cold outdoor air and dry indoor heating has done. I know you already spent a ton of money on your knockout dress for the event so don't worry, this prep won't cost you much.

Remember how you had to get your skin primed for summer? Well some extra priming is needed for these cold months which can even make oily skin feel drier. These tips will help keep your skin soft and hair well conditioned just in time for your holiday party and for the duration of the winter season.

Moisture Prep for Your Skin

Stop bathing, washing hair and washing hands in hot water. I know hot water feels oh-so-good on those cold mornings hitting our skin, but that hot water also dries our skin out. Stick to warm showers and baths. For bathing you can possibly stand to have the water slightly warmer than your shower if you pour a few drops of bath oil or baby oil in the water. Hot water also dries hair out on top of harsh shampoos that are often used to cleanse it.

Lock in moisture after bathing and washing hands. While skin is still wet or damp, you need to lock in moisture to better help your body lotions and cream maintain your skin's softness. Oils are the best way to seal in moisture after bathing and washing hands. There are plenty of body oils available like Village Naturals Bath Shoppe White Tea and Jasmine Bath and Body Oil. However, the cheapest and best oil to use on skin is baby oil which can be purchased at most local dollars for a $1.00. Apply the oil to wet or damp skin and pat skin dry with a towel. Follow with a moisturizer that has ingredients suitable for dry skin. Your hands also need oil after each washing. At home I keep a spray bottled filled with extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) nearby and pump a spray of it in my palm to keep my hands from drying out and cracking. When I am away from home I will mix a few drops of EVOO in with my hand lotion. You can also mix in a few drops of your bath or baby oil in your body lotion. Throughout the day you may still need to reapply lotion to keep skin soft and smooth.

Don't forget your feet. I've read over the years about how at night you can increase the moisture level of your feet to prevent cracked heels and other dry skin problems of the feet by moisturizing feet well and wearing socks. This would help me sometimes but as I've gotten older I notice the sock thing actually helps to make my feet feel drier. It's no wonder, besides keeping feet warm in the winter, socks also are made to absorb moisture. We don't see it that way because the moisture they are supposed to absorb is sweat. However, it also can absorb the moisture of your lotions, creams, etc. What I found to be useful to increase the moisture level in my feet is to:

At night, apply foot cream at night, then smooth on petroleum jelly to seal.
After that I wrap my feet in clear, plastic wrap. This part may seem weird however, plastic will not absorb the moisture from the feet but acts like another sealant to help your feet retain moisture.
Then I follow with my socks. This should only be done at night because the plastic wrap makes your feet do a little slip and slide inside your socks which can be dangerous if your walking around town like that. At least in your home you have more objects around you help you catch your balance.

Last tip for skin - sunscreen. Yes the sun can still do damage to your skin in the winter so use a broad spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher.

Keep Hair Well Conditioned to Create Beautiful Holiday Hairstyles

Shampoo one to three times a week. If you wash your hair everyday you don't need to use shampoo for each washing. Limit the use of shampoos to once to three times a week. Shampooing, requires the use of a detergent to lather and remove oil and other buildup from the hair. The harshest shampoos are those containing sulfates as they tend to strip more moisture from hair than non-sulfate shampoos. Unless you have an oily scalp that makes your hair oily and greasy looking, then you do not need to shampoo every day. On your non-shampoo days rinse hair with warm water and follow with a light, rinse-out conditioner. Or you can use a dry shampoo like Got2b Rockin' It Dry Shampoo or if you set on being a Victoria Secret Angel then you can spend a little extra for Victoria Secret So Sexy Style Clean and Go Dry Shampoo.

When you do shampoo, pre-poo! A pre-poo or pre-shampoo treatment can be anything as simple as a hot oil treatment to a deep treatment conditioner applied to the hair before you shampoo. Pre-poos help to protect hair from the drying detergents of shampoos so less moisture is stripped from hair and they also help hair that tangles and knots easily from getting that way after shampooing. You can use olive oil as a hot oil treatment (I prefer EVOO) or you can turn your regular conditioner into a pre-poo by adding a hair loving oil (olive, avocado, sweet almond or coconut), egg yolk or mayonnaise. Depending on your hair texture and how dry it is you may just need to add an oil or you may need to add all three. You may be surprised at the hair loving ingredients you may already have in your kitchen to help get your hair back in great condition.

After washing and conditioning your hair follow with a cool or cold water rinse. The cool water will close your hair cuticle trapping the moisture your conditioner just added inside the hair shaft.

Wring excess water from hair and blot hair dry with an old t-shirt, absorbant paper towels or wrap hair in a microfiber hair turban.

While hair is still damp, seal it with an oil or hair serum before you finish air drying or heat styling your hair. The oil and serum will better help trap moisture in hair and give your hair shine. If you heat style it provides an extra barrier of heat protection for your hair.

Limit the use of heat on your hair. If you choose to do a blow out, do not follow with the flat iron the same day. Use your flat iron for touch ups on the days after your blow out.

These tips for skin and hair will help you maintain moisture so that you look beautiful this holiday season and throughout the cold winter months. Remember dry, cracked skin and frizzy, straw-like hair will leave an impression this season, just not a good one. So stay moisturized and looking beautiful this season!

Stella McCartney is scheduled to hold a special presentation for London Fashion Week on February 18, 2012 according to London fashion Week:

To celebrate London next year, Stella McCartney will host a special fashion presentation on the evening of February 18th as part of London Fashion Week. Alexander McQueen's McQ line will be on the LFW catwalk for the first time since the line debuted. The show coincides with the opening of the new MCQ flagship store at 14 Dover Street, London W1S 4LW in a Georgian townhouse. The actual LFW catwalk schedule has not been released so the actual date and time of the show is TBD.

The Forever Lazy Onesie is Taking American Comfort a Little Too Far

If comfort is what you seek then this PJ set from Victoria's Secret is a better option.

I received a hearty laugh this morning from a Facebook friend who shared a YouTube video of a commercial he and his wife saw the previous evening. The commercial is for an adult onesie called The Forever Lazy. Honestly, as a wintertime pajama garment, it does not seem like such a bad idea. However, this product is also trying to market itself as being appropriate and dare I say "cool" to be worn out in public. (still laughing at this one)

Honestly, I would have to take a picture of any mentally capable adult who goes out in public in a onesie. Better yet I may just have to grab them a pacifier while I'm at it. What really made me laugh watching the commercial were the "special features" of the Forever Lazy. Those annoying potty breaks are made easier with a front zip for the men and a zippered back flap for everyone!

I am all for comfort. However, I think we are taking comfort a little too far with the adult onesie with back flap.

My Take:

I had mixed feelings about Vivienne Tam's Collection the cherry blossoms and Cherry red colors were vibrant and modernly feminine. After that the collection had some good notes but a lot that left me confused about what the designer was doing. Some pieces just did not seem to fit.

My favorite collection Bar None of the day was Monique Lhuillier. I am hoping I can get may hands on pic of that canary yellow with black lace overlay, trench coat! If you've seen it, you know why I am gaga over it!

Well lovelies I must be on my way. I know we are so excited about NYFW; however, today take a few moments of silence to reflect on the tragedy that occurred 10 years ago today in the United States. If you are the praying type, pray for those who lost loved ones and pray for the country for healing. This tragic day in American history left scars and wounds that still have not completely healed.

I love you all and I hope you love one another.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2012 Day 1

While it is too early to tell what the breakout trends from NYFW will be after Day 1, I can give you a heads up on what I think may be sleeper trends if not a major trend for spring 2012.

Day 1 of NYFW was filled with bright colors, relaxed silhouettes and tribal influences. I had a feeling that resort 2012's rainbow trend might carry over to spring and I saw touches of this at the Richard Chai show. Designers still have not lost their fascination with white as was evident at the Nicholas K show which started out looking like a "white party". However, designers are happy to be able to use color and they are going all out with again especially with the possible "it" shade of the decade, purple. C'mon, you mean you have not noticed that purple has made a huge impact over the past few seasons? Fall's colorblock trend is making a fresh appearance so far as well as this summer's tribal influences have crept in.

First Spring 2012 Trend Guesses:

Gradient prints - ombre being the main expression
