Sweden Recap from Team

Christian Skaters recently visited Sweden on a Skate Mission to serve at the annual Christ Air Camp.

The majority of Swedes don’t think the big man exists. That’s according to a European Commission report which states just 23 percent of Swedes believe there is a God. Only Estonia and the Czech Republic can wave their atheist flags higher, making Sweden the second most secularized country in Europe. However, the Lord has opened a door for Christian Skaters to share the love of Christ in Sweden for the last two years. Although many follow the traditions of church (attending on holidays and major events), many youth do not have a relationship with Christ. They are slower to respond to typical American style alter calls but do best with one-on-one relationship. Through daily devotions at the camp, sharing the Gospel, being a daily witness and continuing to pour into the lives of those we meet in Sweden through social networks like Facebook, we are building true disciples of Christ, meeting them where they are at and being Jesus' hands and feet. Skaters Roberto Bustamante & Josiah Gatlyn headed over to represent Christian Skaters US. Roberto shared devos and challenged the campers each morning. Josiah was able to share his testimony & the Gospel during an interview on stage. One skater emailed us to share about how they accepted Christ during the weekend and was baptized. We are looking forward to hearing even more stories like this!

Here is a recap from Christian Skater's Roberto Bustamante who was part of the team from the US:

"Christ Air Camp 2010 was an event full of ministry and prayer. We left for Sweden on May 11 and the camp started May 14. When we first got to the church that we were going to be staying at some of the leaders of the camp home. They told us it was forecasted to rain all three days of the camp and to pray that the Lord would hold back the rain so that ministry could be done. Any time we had a change we were thanking God for the day he had given us but asking him to put his hands over the camp and shelter it from the rain. The first day of the camp I had the opportunity to share morning devotion with the kids that were in attendance. After that we headed to the skate park for a game of skate BATB style that took up most of the day. That night, right as we were about to head in to the church for the night to enjoy a teaching and concert, the rains came. God held the rains back till we were going to be inside the rest of the night.
The next morning we woke up to a downpour of rain, the day that the skate contest was to be held at noon. The leaders of the camp kept praying that God show favor and stop the rain in time for the biggest event of the whole camp. Once again God showed up and stopped the rain just in time for the skate contest to start. We started to squeegee the whole park to get rid of the water and dry the park and we were given a little help with the sun God brought out. We had the skate contest and everything when smoothly except for a minor injury. Josiah and I were able to share a little bit that day of what God had done in our lives, how he changed us, and how we came to know who God was. That night we had another church service where we were able to worship God and thank him for all he had done that day.
After the Camp was over we went on a short road trip to several skate parks in the south of Sweden. We planned to stop at several cities that some of the kids had come from to go to the camp and to encourage them and fellowship with them and to strengthen their faith. We went to about three cities and several skate parks and prayed for many of the people that we came in contact with that God would continue to lead them or that they would find Him.
In all, the trip was a blast and something that God is definitely blessing. I’m glad I could be a part of all the fellowshipping and ministry that took place in Sweden and hope to go again in the future."

Here is a wrap-up summary from Magdalena @ Christian Skaters in Sweden:

"140 skaters gathered in Alingsås, Sweden on the 13-16th of May to skate and hang out with each other and God (although a lot of people didn't know Him). Almost pro skater Josiah Gatlyn was with us and completely destroyed the park and hung out with the kids. Christ Air Skateboard Camp was like a party with no end and the love of God was all around. On the Saturday we were gonna have a big skate contest but it rained like crazy and the sky was completely gray! A few of us had gotten the same picture when we prayed: That the sun was gonna break through, and at the meeting in the evening we would also have an open sky with God's presence. Almost everyone thought the contest was gonna get canceled and when it was 2 pm I also started to doubt, but we still went on in faith and it soon stopped raining and the sun came out and we could run the contest as planned, for little dudes, older dudes, ladies and also a best trick contest. There were Christian punk bands playing and graffiti artists painting also. At the meeting that night a lot of people were healed of injuries, some rolled ankles that were instantly healed, some sore knees, an old hip injury etc! God is good! As any normal skateboard competition we had an after-party, at the swimming hall. Words are not enough to describe the super fun (non-alcohol of course) craziness that took place there, so I'm not gonna spoil it by trying. One of the non Christians who was at the camp for the first time said that this was probably the best thing he had ever been to. He was at the most hyped and expensive Swedish skateboard camp the year before, but that wasn't even close to the awesomeness of Christ Air, he said. And me, I'm so pumped to be with Jesus and see His kingdom infiltrate the skate scene! The most popular Swedish skateboard mag Giftorm asked us to write an article about the camp and they also wanted to do an interview with Josiah! A few of us went on a road trip after the camp to hang out with the kids in their home cities. We also met up with a photographer from Giftorm who took us to all the gnarly skate spots where Josiah pulled off insane tricks like there was no tomorrow! Pray with us that the articles will be inspired by the Lord and that they won't be cencured and that everyone who reads it will get touched by our loving Father! See you in Sweden next Christ Air!"

What a blessing it has been! We thank you for your prayer and ask that you continue to pray for the skate culture in Sweden. Can't wait to see everyone again in 2011.

Skate Ministry in the Phillipines

God is so good he provided 25 volunteers to organize the skate ramps and ready to load it on the Big truck this coming monday and transfer it to a new home in Cainta Warehouse (Surprise.. Surprise..Venue). We would like to thank Binangonan & Masinag Skateboarders, Fuzion Ministries, Across the Nation Fellowship, The Feast Team, Pam & Myke, Wewel Cruz for helping us out for a good cause. Continue to pray for us as we walk in Faith & obey Gods call to help the urban youth culture & bring hope to the streets. To God be The Glory!

Impact in the Cayman Islands

"Whether you’re a novice or a pro, the Black Pearl Skate Park is considered one of the best in the world and it’s every rider’s dream to ride there. From the pool to the wall, this park has it all and it was the scene for the afternoon events for the Do Something World Festival skate and bike demo. Hundreds of onlookers watched in awe as the demo team, comprised of professional skaters and bikers from all over the country performed aerial feats and gravity-defying stunts.

Pro BMX rider, Jon Greer said, “This is an amazing park and an amazing opportunity to share Christ with the crowd through our demos and testimonies. We were so excited to be a part of the Do Something World event.”

In spite of the intense heat, the team performed six demos throughout the two-day festival. 360s, frontside grinds, and kickflips all were used for one purpose-to share Christ. After each demo, the team would share their testimonies and the Gospel with the crowd. The team recognizes that God has given them the ability to ride and they are committed to using it to impact the skate/bike culture as well as the many youth that look up to them.

This is not just a one-time Do Something World event for these skaters and bikers. Some of them were a part of the Do Something World Jamaica event and each of them are committed to doing something in their community throughout the year. Leading Bible studies, building skate ramps in their yards, speaking at youth events, the team takes every opportunity to use the platform God has given them through their skating and biking abilities to reach others for Christ.

For Steve and Rod James, the leaders of the Skate Ministry at the Rock Church, the Do Something World Cayman festival was an extension of what they were already doing in San Diego. The James brothers led the Sports Team throughout the week in Cayman. Each day, the Sports Team would conduct skateboarding, volleyball, basketball, and soccer clinics at local schools. Over the course of the week, they visited twelve schools, spoke to about 1200 students, and saw over 250 come to Christ! They would share their testimonies with the students and teach them the character qualities necessary to be a successful athlete.

Professional skateboarder, Steve James shared, “I am looking forward to using the talent God has given me as a skateboarder as a platform to share Christ with the students. Whether it’s at a school assembly or at the Black Pearl skate park, I want to take what I am doing through the Skate Ministry in San Diego and share it with the Cayman youth pastors so that kids all over the world can come to know Christ.”

At George Hicks School, one of the coaches asked them to speak to the toughest gym class. He explained to them that the students consistently have discipline issues and have no home structure. The Sports Team was not originally scheduled to go to the school, but they made time because of the coach’s request. In addition to sharing his testimony, Steve James shared about the discipline necessary to be an athlete and a student. The team saw 26 kids come to Christ at George Hicks.

From demos to clinics, the Do Something Festival demo team and Sports team used their talents to make the Gospel come to life for the people of Grand Cayman."

Recently there has been lots of activity in Orange County. We praise the Lord for this as it's the mecca of skate. If you affect the industry, you effect the culture.

Remember to be praying for the pro skaters riding out there who love the Lord. Pray for the Lord to keep them close, for Him to give them opportunities to be bold with the Gospel, to help them fall in love with Jesus more....pray for their families, their skate abilities, their success in the industry, that He might protect them from injuries, and that they might follow His will.

Tack för bönerna! Gud hörde! Å det Anna profeterade över mig på Greyhound-stationen besannades, för jag talade på kvällsmötet om intimitet med Jesus. Jag å Carro predikade faktiskt tillsammans! Johan Lenells och Majastina fick från Gud när de bad att jag o hon skulle göra det och när vi pratade om det visade det sig att Gud hade lagt exakt samma sak på våra hjärtan! Vi snackade inte så länge och sedan betjänade vi i förbön. Det var ett jättehärligt möte! Vet inte om nån blev frälst, men säkert 10 pers blev helade under lägret, ett ev brutet revben, flera onda knän, en flera år gammal höftskada och några stukade fötter! Det skulle bli regn varje dag, men det blev det inte. Det spöregnade fram till klockan 14 på lördagen och himlen var helt grå, men Gud hade talat till flera av oss att solen skulle bryta igenom, och vi fick en solig tävling med skön värme, som vanligt. Josiah Gatlyn, Roberto Stefan och en spanjor körde en sjuuuuk demo, den bästa skatingen jag nånsin sett i vår park! :) Antagligen det bästa Christ Air nånsin! :) Gud e så god! (Vi lyssande på din film första mötet och alla blev glada och upplyfta)

Malmesbury Abbey

Following the success of the first ever skate park held inside Malmesbury Abbey in 2009, the inside of the 12th century former Benedictine abbey was once again transformed into a fully-fledged skate park. People from all over the country traveled down to Wiltshire for the event, which was put on by The Christian Skaters/Surfers UK during the February half term.

I was invited to coach a girls only session at the church over the week and was a judge for the final competition, all very exciting stuff! The girls were all great, really willing to try and learn and everyone had a great time. We also played Rogues’ ‘As If, And What?’ DVD, the whole crowd was stoked!

The event was covered in local newspapers, spreading the word for the need of a local skate park… hopefully something will get done about it soon as there is literally no place to skate nearby, and I was told that the nearest indoor park was in Newport.. Wales! (Which has since been burnt to the ground).

Global Missions Event Tomorrow in Fort Lauderdale

I want to encourage those of you who live in South Florida to attend this event tomorrow at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale. The Dalit Freedom Network is a human rights, non-government organization that partners with the Dalit people in India. They represent a vast network of justice-minded, modern-day abolitionists committed to freedom for India’s “untouchables.” We believe we can end Dalit injustices, such as human trafficking and child labor, and make slavery history in India. Who are the Dalits? Come tommorrow and hear pecial guest speaker will be Kumar Swamy who is the Operation Mobilization South India Field Leader overseeing the ministry of more than nearly 1,000 OM India workers based in the South Region. He is based in Bangalore, Karnataka, which is where Calvary Chapel Ft Lauderdale visted last October. There will be a short award winning documentary film entitled "Kavi"... that presents the reality and injustice of child labor in India that is sure to touch your heart and change your life!

Sweden Update Day 3

Here is a little Update from Magdelena in Sweden:
"Hey, it's great! The atmosphere is awesome, but people are getting injured and no one's getting healed yet! Please pray that we will have a breakthrough so that people get really rocked by God!!!! And saved!! Also a lot of non-christians don't come to the meetings. Pray that they will! Well God is good and I'm having a lot fun with all the wonderful people! I love everyone so much!! Roberto had a really good devotion this morning about walking humbly with God and being a doer and not just a hearer of the Word! And Josiah is gonna share his testimony. The weather report said it was gonna rain all day yesterday and today, but it's been warm and sunny here at Christ Air Skatebaord Camp! God loves us! :)"

Australia Skate Conference & Outreaches

Day 2 of the Sweden Trip

Last night the flight was delayed out of Philadelphia to Frankfurt for the team. Therefore they missed the flight from Germany to Sweden. They are waiting a 5 extra hours in Germany. This is Josiah's first international flight so pray for these 19 & 20 year old skaters on a trip like this. Still I am confident that God works ALL THINGS for the good of those who love Him. Today I ask you to pray that Josiah & Roberto seek after Him and look not at the challenges they face but to God's plan for this trip. Whether it be someone at the airport that needs to hear the Gospel or simply God just refining one of them through the fire, may they look at this 5 hour wait as a blessing and realized it's about more than either one of them. I ask you to pray that the Lord uses this trip to change the hearts of others but to also show His amazing love to Roberto & Josiah as well. I hope that God allows these two to see Him, feel Him, touch Him and taste Him through all the experiences of this trip.

Sweden Bound

When He finished He said, "I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you." The kind of foot washing Christ is talking about is more than a physical act. It is a humbling of our heart. It’s a willingness to set aside our personal agenda, to reach out to someone who is hurting or lacking peace.

Update on Elijah Moore

We've had the pleasure of hanging with pro-skater Elijah Moore several times over the year. In fact, he was one of the skaters who joined us in Rwanda this past summer. But, several weeks after the teams return to the US, Elijah's life changed in ways none of us could ever imagine.

It takes a test to have a testimony

So, it's been an interesting year so far, we had skate missions plans of our own but the Lord had another plan. I read this awesome quote from Matin Luther King today that said, "I have held many things in my hands and lost them all; but whatever I have placed in God's hand I still possess."

You may not know this, but the president of CS was born in Argentina. Although he was raised in the US since an infant, he is an Argentine citizen. In his early 20s, he was living for himself and not the Lord. He found himself in trouble for possession of marijuana. However, soon his life was about to change in ways he never expected.

He walked into a local skate park one night, and stumbled upon not skate, but a Bible study. It was that night that he began a true relationship with the Lord.

He began serving at the park as a volunteer. Right after the 9/11 attacks, business began to decline and keeping the doors of the park open get increasingly more difficult. A local church then asked the owners to consider moving the park to a property the church owned. It was then that he was asked to come on staff.

Passionate about how the Lord used a skate ministry to change his life, he and a few others set on an adventure to begin a ministry that purposed to help others reach skaters too. Thus, Christian Skaters was born.

But, we know our sin has consequences. So, fast forward 13 years after his arrest....He begins traveling a ton doing Skate Missions with pro and am skaters and ministries. Last summer he visited over 6 countries in 3 months. He was flagged on a trip back from Sweden and now has received a notice of a deportation hearing. His case is strong, but it is in the Lord's hands. So we ask for your prayers that the Lord gives him grace and that his testimony of the change in his life may lead judges, lawyers, and all involved to a closer relationship with their creator. Please join us in praying.

We see this as a unique opportunity to raise up willing leaders and teams to go were he can not right now. For we know that the Lord's plan may not be our own but it is ALWAYS better!

Next Stop - Pakistan with David Reasbeck

I really want to put this out there so that you know how to pray for me in detail over the next couple of months! I was just recently invited to be a part of a team that is going to Pakistan to bring this amazing message of Jesus Christ!

As you can imagine, I am a bit unnerved,as this is no walk in the park. But, it's something that I feel I really need to be a part of.

BUT! I cannot do this alone....

The details of this matter cannot be fully explained for reasons I'm sure you are aware of. But the nature of this trip will be in line with what I have been doing for the last 7 years of my life, involving skateboarding and bringing the Message of Truth to this planet!

I am in need of purchasing tickets for this trip, a VISA, food and lodging. I will be in Australia at this time, so I would be flying from Brisbane to Karachi for 10 days to be a part of 3 different outreach events in 3 major cities. PLEASE PRAY FOR US!!!!!

What Happened:
Update from Jud Heald "I was in Miami and had to go get a new passport. I was there early with Uli from Cristain skaters. Got the passport walked out psyked and then noticed Uli´s window was broke out and all my luggedge stolen! Laptop, video camera, camera, shoes, clothes and ramdon other stuff that I will have to replace. They can´t steal ...my joy in the Lord though! They left my board and we have already seen slavations here in Panama."

Update from Zac Archuleta, "The MOVEMIENTO event in Panama City was amazing. There were probably
500+ people at the event. We skated threw out product and shared the
gospel. There were about 100 skaters that full on gave there lives to
Jesus, handed out about 150 bibles, and 300 gospels of John. AMAZING!! Read more & see photos here..."

Pray for Jud & Jared now on their way to Ecuador. Jud's luggage was never found but the Lord is using them in mighty ways!

The Begining

Urgent Prayer Request

Last night we get a call from Untitled Skateboards founder/pro Jud Heald. He was on his way to Panama for The Movement http://www.movimientopanama.com/

He arrived in Miami on a connection and was unable to travel as he had less than 4 months on his passport (new law). He will only be in Panama for a week then plans to head over to Ecuador for the outreach there.

So, he was stuck in Miami. By God's grace he got in touch with us and we were able to get him into the passport place in Miami to renew his passport today. While inside, someone smashed Uli's back window and grabbed all Jud's luggage including his video camera, laptop, etc.

They are presently in Miami writing up the police report while praying that Jud get's his passport in time for the 7pm flight tonight for tomorrows event. So, now all he has is his wallet and his skateboard...and faith in the one who provides.

All in all, this trip is costing 1,000s more than expected. God must have something BIG planned for these two trips. Be praying for a miracle. Untitled really need the camera & laptop for the ministry. Jud had no clothes but the ones he is wearing for the next three weeks. The window in our Subaru is gone and costs a ton due to the heat sensors in it. It stinks, but God takes the bad and uses it for good. So we ask for prayers for this person that broke into the car, prayers for Jud and Uli - that you help them not to lose hope, for Jud's passport renewal to go smoothly and quickly, for Jud's family as he travels and for those that God has been preparing to hear. We also pray that by some miracle that his luggage and other items are recovered and the Lord provides a way for us to replace that window. We thank the Lord for Jud, Untitled and what the guys at The Movement are doing. They are awesome men of God. May He protect them and use each of them in mighty way.

In all this, I am confident that the Lord is going to do HUGE things in these two countries. So, join us in pray....let's witness a miracle happen.

January 2010 Update

January has already been a busy month. Christian Skaters is working on their 2010 Skate Mission schedule and praying about how the Lord wants to use this ministry in 2010.

With our international offices based in Fort Lauderdale, FL, we have been working with our local church, Samaritain's Purse (whom we now share offices with), and our partners Compassion International (If you would like to be a part of what Compassion is doing in Haiti click go to this link http://www.compassion.com/sponsor_a_c...
) to do what we can in Haiti. South Florida is home to the largest Haitian population in the country. We have had friends and co-workers who were in Haiti during the earthquake and others who are now on the ground serving.

Ray Wolfe from Las Vegas Skateboarding Outreach is also a pilot. He will be serving this weekend as he flies Doctors without Boarders to Haiti. Pray for smooth flying and their safety during, before and after they arrive.

Today we expect 60 orphans who were waiting for adoption to process, to arrive today and meet their new families. I personally have four car seats in my car and am awaiting the call to pick up these children. We will have a chance to be God's hands and feet as we transport these children to local hospitals before the head to their new homes.

Our church will be on the ground tomorrow in Jacmel where they will be meeting with Mark Stuart from Audio Adrenaline and http://www.handsandfeetproject.org to see how we might partner with Jacmel to make a difference and a lasting impact through a strategic partnership. Our friends Cody & Maria Whittaker are also serving in Jacmel and have an incredible blog at http://www.howcantheyhear.org/ Please be praying for the Whittaker & Stuart families for the Lord's strength and provision during this time in Haiti. I am thankful for being part of an incredible church body and staff that is wisely finding ways to help.

So, what trips do we have planned for 2010. In March, Uli and Toni will head to California for the Livin It Alliance core team meeting. Uli will also head to Skid Row to touch base with the ministries we work with there and in South LA/Orange County areas. In May, a team will head once again to Sweden to run a camp. In June, we plan to head to Brazil for our first visit as we begin to build relationships. We will also work alongside In His Steps International in June for their annual skate mission to Guatemala. What about the Skate Conference? Right now Christian Skaters UK is gearing up for their event March 26th - 28th (http://christianskaters.co.uk/events/.... We plan to keep the International Skate Conference at our home base in Florida for one more year. This will enable us to cut the costs drastically to allow more to come to the event. Look for dates and speakers coming soon for the event October 2010.

Christian Skaters is blessed to have an new intern, Josiah. He will be helping at Ramp 48 and will be helping CS as we revamp our website. Pray that the Lord continues to provide for him, grow him closer, and equip him. We will continue to open up our internship program and will have details and dates for our summer internship soon.

We are also looking for others willing to be part of our street team. Street Team members attend local events, head to local churches and skate spots, etc. and get the word out about CS around the globe. So what is Christian Skaters? Christian Skaters is a body of ministries. We believe that by working together, we can make a greater impact around the globe. We love skateboarding, but more importantly we love the Lord and are grateful for Jesus Christ paying the price for our sins. Our heart is to be a bright lights (Matthew 5:16) and an example of Christ in a lost culture. Our hops is that others may see Christ in each of us.
