Here we go again! Sketch-22 Season 5 is officially underway. Several writers' meetings have been held and I am happy to report the material is as strange, shocking and outrageous as ever. But is it funny? Well, we never really know for sure until we open, but last week Rob brought in a sketch that had me laughing harder than I've laughed since Debbie Gaudet changed my life forever in Season 2. Interestingly, like other seasons the material so far is a mix of Island related material and stuff that has no relation to PEI whatsoever. It's not something I think of consciously when I'm writing, but I'm always glad to see when we've got a bit of both.

The writing process will continue until we set some date as a deadline to stop writing and choose our best material for the show. Usually it's sometime in late-April. But before we leave the writing phase behind, we'd be curious to hear what kind of material people would like to see in the show this season. Not that we'll listen to you. We barely listen to each other. But it would be interesting to hear what people prefer - Island sketches, sketches that aren't specific to anywhere, raunchy sketches, political sketches, intellectual sketches (hey, remember the sketch about...nevermind. But we could try to write one!) Anyhow, send along your ideas. You could win a Sketch blog response!

And stay tuned for regular updates on Sketch-22 Season 5: The Dream Child.

Jerome (Masenfer) Malone grew up on the streets. The streets of a middle class suburb outside of Fredricton. He began his directionless life of delinquency stealing apples and carrots from neighbours gardens. When he was old enough to ride a bike, he began to crave more excitement then mere produce fencing. He rode outside his neighbourhood. He rode outside of the Suburb, and all the way into town. The hustle and bustle of the seemingly large city captivated his limited imagination and conjured up a vision of being a mob boss. His knowledge of crime was based on commercials for cop shows and McGruff the crime dog PSAs. Then, not unlike today, he had absolutely no idea what the world of crime entailed. But he knew, as he knows today, that it is more exciting then doing things you're supposed to do.
He continued taking trips to town until he got his first second hand Nintendo. He didn't resume an active life in crime or otherwise till eight years later, when he moved out of home at the tender age of eighteen. His life of parentless freedom was as short lived as his savings account would allow, but he did learn about drinking, mild drugs and making money by letting your friends friends store stolen bikes and stereos in your basement until someone buys them.

despite a continued set of achievments in thievery and chemicals, Jerome maintained the values instilled in him as a child. He still had a sense of good. His stupid and restless nature kept him moving from town to town and eventually he managed to get unexpected stuff like a (tiny) living
space, basic furniture, a TV (traded to him for pills), a magazine
subscription and a shower curtain, a collection of stickers, knives, go-bots and Rihanna posters. but even though he still had some of his privilaged values, he couldn't help get into trouble wherever he went.
If one were to analyze his patterns, one might find a complete idiot with a penchant for fun and with convictions of solid steel. Jerome would stand his ground for what he believed in, often totally misguided, often resulting badly.
One night Jerome was helping his friend tear down a DJ booth at a local dive when he once again stood up for what he believed to be right. This was how he met rusty.

Rusty Higgins was a rapscallion from his early youth. Always getting into to trouble in his Neighbourhood in Bristol. When he was 13 he was finally caught by his parents making little bombs and promptly sent to reform camp which he escaped almost immediatly.
On the lamb, he set out to adventure around the world with his wit and a coat. He made it two towns down before he got a job doing dishes. Three weeks later he was fired for stealing silverware and selling it. He went on to a career in scams, petty theft, insurance sales and importing of illegal fireworks.

Rusty Never made more then 400 dollars a week for his entire career in crime. So when the opportunity arose to start fresh in North America he packed everything and moved over with a canadian girl friend he met at a home alarm sales training program. Their relationship lasted until the first time Rusty got drunk in a Canadian pub...

This was right before he hooked up with Jerome.

First off I love all/both of the recent comments. topical and well thought through. As for the group we are still writing and at this point we have more then a full shows worth of sketches. we're gonna keep developing it for a little longer before we really dive into production.

Also we've got some pretty neat offers for various things...

I think it's apparant from the following that this blog and facebook has generated, there's a cult audience that spans this continent from sea to sea. Right now I think we can safely say we're biggen then Moxy Fruvous is (not was).

We are ofcourse smarter and better looking then Moxy Fruvous even in their prime. And SNL. Well SNL might be better looking but we're sure as fuck smarter. And funnier. Their wealth (which I would trade my pride and talant for any day) keeps them stupid and soft.
