Eisenstadt (Hungarian: Kismarton, Croatian: Željezni grad, Željezno, Slovene: Železno) is a city in Austria, the state capital of Burgenland. It has a population of about 12,000 (2006). In the Habsburg monarchy, Kismarton (Eisenstadt) was the seat of the Eszterházy Hungarian noble family. The composer Joseph Haydn lived there as Hofkapellmeisterunder Esterházy patronage.

Eisenstadt lies on a plain leading down to the river Wulka, at the south foot of the Leitha Mountains, about 12 km from the Hungarian border.

The present city name, meaning "Iron City", was first recorded in 1118 as "castrum ferrum" and refers to the history of iron mining and iron trade in the area. The first written mention of the town took place in 1264 as "minor Mortin", matching the Hungarian name, Kismarton, which is recalling Saint Martin, the patron saint of the main church.

Archeological finds prove that the Eisenstadt area was already settled in the Hallstatt period. Celts and Romans settled somewhat later. During the Migration Period, the area was settled by different Germanic tribes and the Huns. Around 800, during the reign of Charlemagne, settlement by the Bavarii began. (Wiki)

The Wiener Prater is a large public park in Vienna's 2nd district (Leopoldstadt). The Wurstelprater amusement park, often simply called "Prater", stands in one corner of the Wiener Prater and includes the Wiener Riesenrad.

The area that makes up the modern Prater was first mentioned in 1162, when Emperor Friedrich I gave the land to a noble family called de Prato. The word "Prater" was first used in 1403, originally referring to a small island in the Danube north of Freudenau, but was gradually extended to mean the neighbouring areas as well. The land changed hands frequently until it was bought by Emperor Maximilian II in 1560 to be a hunting ground. To deal with the problem of poachers, Emperor Rudolf II forbade entry to the Prater. On April 7 1766, Emperor Joseph II declared the Prater to be free for public enjoyment, and allowed the establishment of coffee-houses and cafés, which led to the beginnings of theWurstelprater. Throughout this time, hunting continued to take place in the Prater, ending only in 1920.

In 1873, a World Exhibition was held in the Prater, for which a large area of land was set aside, centered on the Rotunda, which burnt down in 1937. This land now houses the Messegelände (exhibition centre).

In 2004, major renovations to the Wurstelprater began, and a new underground railway line was finished and brought into service on May 11, 2008, which includes three stops along the Prater (see Vienna U-Bahn). The railway station Praterstern has been in operation for a long time and is only a few dozen metres away from an entrance to the park.

The overall area of the park has also been reduced by the building of the Ernst-Happel-Stadion (Austria's national stadium), the Südosttangente (Austria's busiest piece of motorway) and racecourse. (Wiki)

quartier21 is a support structure that offers space and support to more than forty small and medium-sized autonomous cultural initiatives within the MQ Wien. It is an integral part of the overall concept of the MuseumsQuartier, which is based on variety and a broad understanding of culture.
The various groups represented here have transformed the quartier21 into Vienna's center for contemporary "applied art." The emphasis is on digital culture, design, and fashion. Art magazines and publishers have their editorial offices here, media art groups, associations, and project series their presentation venues, pop music, VJ, and video archives their home base. In addition, quartier21 features a TV station, a club radio station, a design forum, a museum/shop for computer games, a café, a cultural bookstore, fashion studios, and artist studios and guest rooms.

They are just as much a part of Vienna as St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the Giant Ferris Wheel: The Fiakers. For many tourists, a ride with the two-horse carriage is one of the highlights. There is almost no cozier way to explore Vienna’s attractions.

The term "fiaker" originates from the French and refers to the hackney carriage stand in the Parisian Rue de Saint Fiacre. In 1720, the carriages - which had previously been referred to as "Janschky" coaches in Vienna - were renamed "fiakers" (and numbered).

Columbus Circle, named for Christopher Columbus, is a major landmark and point of attraction in the New York City borough of Manhattan. Completed in 1905 and renovated a century later, it is located at the intersection of Broadway, Central Park West, Central Park South (59th Street), and Eighth Avenue, at the southwest corner of Central Park, and is the point from which distances from New York City are measured. The traffic circle was designed by William P. Eno, a businessman who pioneered many early innovations in road safety and traffic control, as part of Frederick Law Olmsted's vision for the park, which included a "Grand Circle" at Merchants' Gate, its most important Eighth Avenue entrance. 72nd Street is an express Metro station on the IRT Broadway – Seventh Avenue Line of the New York City Subway located at the intersection of Broadway (Manhattan), and 72nd Street and Amsterdam Avenue (including Verdi Square and Sherman Square) on the Upper West Side. Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts is a few blocks to the south. The station is served by the 1, 2 and 3 trains at all times (Wiki).

From The GE Building, which is the focal point of the entire Rockefeller Center complex.

The building looks dramatically different when viewing its narrow and wide facades. From 5th Avenue it is an elegant, narrow shaft while looking down 6th Avenue it forms an enormous slab.

The vertical and Gothic-inspired detailing of the austere Art Deco facade is integrated with a slim, functionally expressive form. Inside, this modern skyscraper features an open floor plan.

The lobby's rich materials and reduced black and beige ornamental scheme are enhanced by dramatic lighting.

Granite covers the base to a height of 1.2 meters (four feet), and the shaft has a refined facade of Indiana limestone with aluminum spandrel panels.

An escalator - a striking feature for its time - provides access to the shopping concourse below.

Nicknames include "The Slab" and "30 Rock".

The building was awarded landmark status in 1985.

The "Top of the Rock" rooftop observation deck closed in May 1986, and reopened on November 1, 2005. Its elevators have glass ceilings facing into illuminated shafts.

Whilst under construction in 1932, this building is where the famous photo "Lunchtime Atop a Skyscraper" was taken by the photographer Charles C. Ebbets. The photo shows 11 construction workers eating whilst sitting on a steel beam seemingly suspended in mid-air. [Emporis.com]
