Looks like in Asia the Japanese Developer "Creams" is working to bring BLN for Galaxy S2, for me it's the only thing i miss from the first Galaxy S.

He is working on a bug that only allows BLN to work on USB connection, it is maybe a power management problem.

LG takes Gingerbread-sporting Optimus Net and Pro out of the oven

Gingerbread is not just for the high-end folks -- even the entry-level guys need a little rhizome flavored love now and again. LG understands that, and it's why the company is introducing a pair devices to its Optimus line dubbed the Net and Pro. The Optimus Pro, just like its similarly monikered Droid Pro, is a candybar QWERTY device with a 2.8-inch touchscreen. The Pro comes in a trio of color options, including something called "titan." The Net, on the other hand, is a fully touchscreen affair (though, the North American version may sport a sliding QWERTY pad), with a 3.2-inch 320 x 480 display. LG is pushing its Social+ widgets that put Twitter and Facebook on your homescreen -- something we all know others have had tons of success with. Both devices pack a 1500mAh battery and an 800 MHz CPU, which should be enough for less demanding smartphone users. They'll be rolling out this summer starting in Europe. Here's an interesting titbit: HP's TouchPad has already begun to ship to speciality shops in the land of untamed energy usage and a holier-than-thou attitude, but for the pernickety among us, you may know that the company's first webOS slate hasn't actually hit the streets of Londontown. Until now, ole chap. The 16GB WiFi model is going for £399, while a doubling of capacity will tack on a few extra quid. It's available now directly from HP's webstore, but if mum always criticised your rampant online shopping sprees, we hear aeroplanes and coupés are colourful alternatives for acquisition.

Samsung Galaxy S II may be destined for Bell July 21st for $150

Time to break out the peanut butter and syrup, folks, because Bell is waffling. The Canadian mobile provider looked all set for a July 21st launch of the highly-coveted Samsung Galaxy S II, according to a listing on Best Buy Canada, but the page has unfortunately been pulled. When it was live, the galactic sequel was priced for $150 with three-year commitment, and if that were true it would make Bell the first North American carrier to offer the hot-selling Android device -- though it certainly won't be the last. Was the page taken down at Bell's request to allow it the chance to formally announce the device? Has it been delayed? Or, was it just wrong? While we're guessing it's the first possibility -- it is, certainly, aflagship phone that deserves some fanfare -- we'll toss a quarter in the wishing well in hopes that our dreams come true next Thursday.

Update: Best Buy Canada reinstated the page, but nudged the price up to $170. Thanks a lot.

New Version of the LG Optimus Net Passes Through the FCC – Bound for AT&T?

The last time we saw the LG Optimus Net it was in a handy Italian promo video showing all the in’s and out’s with the device. It looked like a pretty solid, mid-level phone and many believe it will be the replacement for LG’s popular Optimus One line.

What we didn’t know is if, or when this phone would ever make it stateside. Well, a slightly different version of that same phone made its way through the FCC today, the LG Optimus Net P690g, and according to the paperwork, looks to be supporting North American 3G/4G bands. Namely, AT&T’s 850MHz and 1900MHz bands.

Now, this doesn’t mean it’s for sure coming to the U.S. (I think come Canadian carriers support the same bands) but it makes it all the more possible. If this phone is, in fact, the successor to the Optimus One, I suspect, just like the Optimus One, we will be seeing this device on every carrier under the sun

Hey, remember 2010? Lady Gaga was all over the radio and all the kids were crazy excited about the upcoming Deathly Hallows movie. And then there was Froyo -- it was never designed to be a tablet OS, but manufacturers defiantly went against Google's wishes. EAFT is carrying that torch with theMagicTile Marathon, a 10 inch tablet doesn't look too bad from a hardware perspective, with a Tegra 2 chip, 3G, 1080p video, and an HDMI port. The whole Android 2.2 thing makes the tablet seem downright archaic, however. Interested parties can pick the tablet for Rs. 26,999 (around $607) at launch and Rs. 29,990 (around $675) later. We hear it's great for watching your favorite Charlie Sheen episodes of Two and a Half Men.

13 New Countries Get Live Traffic Updates in Google Maps

The folks at Google are adding traffic support for Google Maps in 13 more countries, mostly European.

The list of countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Spain and Switzerland. Alongside live updates, Google will estimate how traffic will look in the near future based on current traffic trends. We’re not surprised at Google chipping away at providing a great Maps experience for the whole world to enjoy and we’re glad a ton more people are in on these goods. In Another Dimension, the HP TouchPad Runs Android 3.0 [HUMOR]

And that other dimension would be Canada. Best Buy, Canada to be exact. One of the advertising wizards behind their weekly flyer has the HP TouchPad curiously listed as running Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Right…but the TouchPad actually runs webOS 3.0. We understand getting the 3.0 part confused, but a quick glance at the other side of the page clearly states webOS. Somebody didn’t double check before sending this one to print.

And just like that, it's official. After hearing about the next incremental step in Honeycomb's journey by way of Huawei's MediaPad, we've seen breadcrumbs about its functional differences.
Today, we're being given the full shebang -- Google has just made official v3.2, boosting the API level to 13 and releasing the SDK into the wild in one fell swoop. The new build brings along optimizations for a "wider range of tablets," as well as "compatibility zoom for fixed-sized apps," media sync from SD card (huzzah!) and an extended screen support API. ITC Judge Finds HTC in Violation of Two Apple Patents

An ITC judge has found HTC in violation of two Apple patents which appear to be at the core of Android and are likely infringed by all Android devices.

I have looked at those patents before and they appear to be very fundamental. They are very likely to be infringed by code that is at the core of Android. It's telling that those two patents are also at issue between Apple and Motorola (and the '263 patent was also used by Apple against Nokia).

The two patents infringed on are:
● U.S. Patent No. 5,946,647 on a "system and method for performing an action on a structure in computer-generated data"

● U.S. Patent No. 6,343,263 on a "real-time signal processing system for serially transmitted data" (while this sounds like a pure hardware patent, there are various references in it to logical connections, drivers, programs...)

This decision by an administrative law judge has yet to be reviewed by the six-member commission. The commission has the power to ban imports into the U.S.

Apple has also filed a second ITC complaint against HTC which claims they infringe on other patents as well.

Leaked Pics of Sprint’s Galaxy S II Surface – Say Hello to the Samsung Within

Good. Gawd. And not right after I posted my review on how content I was with the Evo 3D, this shows up in my inbox. Thanks to TIMN, what you have in front of you are some freshly leaked, blurry cam pics of the Samsung Within. This is the eagerly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S II for North America and it just so happens to be for my favorite carrier, Sprint. (Excuse me while I scream out my window)

Now that we got that out of the way, we don’t have much else to go on other than these pics here. You can see Sprint’s branding not only on the backside of the device, but on the software as well. The familiar (and nearly indestructible) Galaxy S II texture battery cover is easily recognized as well as the diplayed 8MP camera. Word on the street is this will launch with Android 2.3.4 so you can expect Google Talk video chat right out of the box.

Let us hope (and pray) this new leak is a sign the launch date is just around the corner because it looks like this device might be all ready for shipping to Sprint stores very soon. Sprint is coming in hot this summer with the release of the Motorola Photon 4G in a few more weeks. Anyone else excited to finally get their hands on this device?

Android and Google+ big Winners on Google Earnings Call

Yesterday was a big day for our favorite search giant, at least for it's investors and people concerned with the financial growth of the company. Google conducted it's Q2 earnings call to report in about the growth of several of it's products. Two of the big winners? Android and Google+.

This news probably comes as no big surprise to you since you are reading it on an Android based blog, but take a look at the numbers that were reported yesterday, they are a bit staggering.

Android growth for example, at I/O this year Google announced that there were 400,000 Android handset activations a day. A huge number to be sure, but yesterday Larry Page announced that in just two months time, that number has grown to 550,000 activations a day. That is a huge leap in adoption for sure, but must be tempered by the fact of the sheer number of Android powered handsets on the market. Either way, Android is now on 130 million devices. Pretty amazing and if you are an Android fan like we are, makes you all happy inside.

The other interesting number that was talked about on the call was that Google+, the new social media-search-communications thingy that Google has just recently launched, now has 10 million users already, despite the service still being invite only. Many people seen on the service have said that they have abandoned their Twitter and Facebook accounts totally, where others are saying that Facebook is still their method of choice when it comes to connecting with people.

As far as earnings go, Google is on pace to rake in 9 billion in revenues this year, with half of that figure coming from outside of the US. Ads still being the number one money maker across all of the products Google offers.

What does this mean for Android? Growth, innovation and attention. As Android is one of the biggest products that Google offers, we are only going to see bigger and better things on our mobile devices.

There was one unspoken downside to the call, and that was concerning tablet sales. It is being reported by sources on the call that Page was very specific when he quoted the 130 million activations, he made sure to say on 'phones', separating out the other area in which Android is trying to go, which of course is the tabletmarket. It will be interesting to see if in the next quarter there has been any movement upwards with the plethora of Android powered tablets out there.

Either way, if you were in an early investor in Google, you should be sitting pretty right now, for the rest of us, we can look forward to continued awesomeness in free ad-driven product.

HTC Desire Z Gingerbread update rolls out in the land of the Bratwurst

The HTC Desire family used to be close-knit, but then the Gingerbread update came along and gave preferential treatment to the Desire HD.
Harmony may soon be restored though, because a number of Desire Z owners in Germany (and at least one in Hungary) have just received their OTA Android 2.3.3 updates, and the rest of Europe shouldn't be too far behind. At some point, the original Desire will also be allowed back at the Gingerbread table after all manner of divisive head-games -- possibly as soon as August in some regions. We're going to re-stock our fridge and put the oven on in anticipation.

New Android Market App Tells of Google Music Store

When Google first introduced Google Music, we were treated to a vision far broader than just uploading your already-existent music collection to the cloud for playback via wireless streaming. We got a look at how life would be like if Google offered music purchasing functionality for Android users, similar to what Apple does with iTunes and what Microsoft does with Zune. Unfortunately, the Music beta didn’t come with these features.

Fortunately, “beta” means Google isn’t finished, and our friends at Android & Me have reason to believe that we’re inching closer to getting the full experience Google envisioned. They looked inside the resource files of the latest Android market app update and found some images not currently used. That market icon in the upper left corner when you go to a specific section of the Android market? There are certain-colored icons for games/apps, books and movies.

Well, thanks to what’s been revealed by the resource tree, there is a specific icon just for Music. It’ll be orange themed – just like Google Music’s main color. This could mean a lot but could mean very little. Google could very well be in promising negotiations with record labels to provide the service, and these resource files could suggest they’re far along in those talks.

Another scenario that is just as likely? They could just be anticipating that the music service will come sometime – anytime – down the line. It doesn’t hurt to keep the necessary resources inside the application as they don’t take up much space, so Google may have just thrown this in for good measure.

So we know they’re still trying to get that music store launched, but we’re still not exactly sure how far off we’re on. We’re hopeful that today’s discovery means we’re ever closer, but we won’t get our hopes up. Are any of you looking forward to this?

HTC Status initial hands-on impressions

Creating the perfect phone is an extremely hard task. Most people can agree that a loaded spec sheet is a great place to start, but when it comes down to software and hardware design it’s extremely hard to please the subjective tastes of the masses. While Apple aims to please everyone with a one size fits all model, Android manufacturers have gone the opposite route, creating niche products for niche demographics.

Enter the HTC Status. The handset’s exterior design is a throwback when the HTC Dash ruled the planet as one of the best Windows Mobile messaging phones. Fortunately for us, the introduction of Android has pushed us into a new era of smartphones, but I do have to say that the portrait QWERTY design of the HTC Status is a welcome change in a never ending sea of generic Android slab devices.

The specs on the HTC Status will not impress any of your friends (2.6-inch landscape touch screen, 800 MHz processor, 512 MB RAM/ 512 MB ROM, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, front-facing VGA camera, four row QWERTY keyboard, and a dedicated Facebook button) but it does have the potential to be a big success. AT&T plans on launching the HTC Status on July 17th for $50 with a new two year contract.

The HTC Status’ main selling point is the dedicated Facebook button and the phone’s tight integration into Facebook. The Facebook button allows you to easily share what you are doing (listening to music, watching YouTube, browsing the web, using Google Maps, and much more) with your friends with one simple button press. But what if you’re not so into Facebook? Well, let’s not forget that the HTC Status is still and Android phone with access to the Android Market and capable of doing pretty much anything you want it to.

The HTC Status has no problem playing Angry Birds Rio, Glow Hockey, or even iRunner, but if you’re hoping to play some intensive 3D games you may be disappointed. I tried loading up Dungeon Defenders and Gun Bros but was treated to multiple force-closes before I could even start playing. The low resolution screen (480 x 320 pixel) is most likely the culprit, but we do have a feeling that the HTC Status would be able to handle some light 3D gaming.

Most other applications from the Android market worked flawlessly, but I was annoyed at times with the choices made by app developers. The HTC Status forces most apps to display in portrait mode so that the user does not have to rotate the phone all the time. Unfortunately many applications which have a portrait layout simply stretch the landscape layout to fit the display rather than reorganize the layout to maximize screen real-estate.

The portrait keyboard on the HTC Status felt a little cramped at first, but after a full day with the phone I am able to type just as fast as I do with the G2. Ergonomically, the keyboard isn’t as good as what RIM offers on their Blackberry devices, but the build quality of the handset has certainly made a few Blackberry users here in the office turn green with envy.

The HTC Status is certainly not a phone for current Android users, but it may be the perfect stepping stone for anyone who’s looking to upgrade from their flip phone or wanting to trade up from their Blackberry. The Status’ Facebook integration is certainly intriguing, but I don’t think it’s enough to make it one of the main selling points for the phone.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro 'slides' through FCC with photos in tow

It looks like Sony Ericsson needs to juice up the invisibility cloak. Not only has the handset maker been pushing a decent number of phones through for Federal approval, it's splayed out most of them for the whole world to see.

The latest device to get the thumbs-up from the feds is the Xperia Mini Pro, which appears to be on track for its promised third-quarter launch. If we don't see a different version of the same phone hit Washington soon, it's more than likely that the 900 / 2100MHz Mini Pro won't see much 3G activity in the US, since we use different frequencies stateside -- though it'll still function as a 2G device when it hops the pond with Europeans on holiday.

We've yet a little while before the QWERTY smartphone comes out to play.

Confirmed: Samsung Epic 4G Is NOT Shipping With Android 2.3

Yesterday we posted a little something our awesome readers came across on the Sprint website. Apparently, Sprint had the Samsung EPIC 4G listed as shipping with Android 2.3 (and Sprint ID, what?). If you’re an Epic user, you were either confused, excited or angry that Gingerbread was being made available on the device.
If you were a potential Epic user, I know a few that eagerly rushed out that same day to buy one, only to come back with sticky Froyo devices. The guys at Android Central were also able to dispel this mix up after getting in touch with Sprint and verifying that it was indeed, a typo. Shucks.

I’m all about conspiracy theories and I never trust any big corporate companies, so perhaps this is all just a cover up seeing how Gingerbread has been leaking all over for the device. Maybe this “typo” is just another sign that it’s coming soon, right? I’m onto you Sprint (glare).

Amazon Chooses Foxconn to Manufacturer Their 10.1-inch Android Tablet

Looks like Foxconn will be the manufacturer of choice for Amazon’s upcoming 10.1-inch Android tablet.
Currently, Foxconn is the manufacturer behind Amazon’s widely popular Kindle e-readers. According to Digitimes, the tablet is expected to ship in 2012 and while that launch date may seem like a little late in the game, perhaps it has something to do with the rumor that the “Hollywood” device will be packing Nvidia’s new quad-core Kal-El processors. Even still, there is the possibility that Amazon could release the 10.1-inch tablet a few months early in time for the busy holiday season.

Also mentioned was Quanta Computer who is apparently manufacturing Amazon’s smaller 7-inch tablet codenamed Coyote and has already begun shipping to the online retailer. This tablet is rumored to be powered by an Nvidia Tegra 2 and could launch as early as late August or September.

Looks like Amazon is getting ready for war and I’ve read a few editorials that it might not be Apple who is shaking in their boots but Google. Amazon seems to be using the openness of Android against big “G” to compete directly with almost every one of Google’s online services. Interesting, indeed.

Live Wallpapers Extracted From Galaxy Tab 10.1 And Ready For Your Transformer

We cannot deny that the stock live wallpapers created by manufacturers have their inexplicable appeal.

Maybe it is the will to get your device to make it look like your friend's or it could simply be the fact that we need the capability to change the look of the device out of sheer boredom. In either case, for those of you boasting Transformers, XDA member "Segnaro" has a little gift for you, straight from the Galaxy Tab.
He has extracted, signed and repackaged the aqua as well and the aurora lwp as apks for easy installation.

Please leave some feedback if can try these out. Pulled these from the Tab 10.1 rom.
I've seen these wallpapers before on Galaxy S phones, so they must be Samsung's Touchwiz UX counterparts.
