Mini is feeling under threat when Grace brings Franky to the charity fashion show and she ends up sacking them both. Despite appearances, her relationship is also rocky. Nick doesn't want to wait for sex, so while Mini struggles to maintain control, Liv acts in the worst way possible, obliging Nick where Mini failed.

Rich uses his taste in extreme music to keep the world, especially girls, at bay. But when Alo finds Rich's perfect woman, he is forced into pairing up with Grace to learn how to chat up girls. Grace has to learn the ways of metal in order to impersonate a metal chick, but Rich doesn't make it easy, refusing to believe a mainstream girl could understand him. Eventually Rich appreciates the meaning of compromise and allows Grace into his world, but heartbreak isn't far away…

The award-winning drama is back for a fifth series following the lives of eight teenagers in Bristol. There are eight new friends, four boys: Nick ( Sean Teale), Rich ( Alexander Arnold), Alo ( Will Merrick), Matty (Sebastian De Souza) and four girls: Franky ( Dakota Blue Richards), Liv (Laya Lewis), Mini (Freya Mavor) and Grace (Jessica Sula) . Franky starts at Roundview and is determined not to be a loner and things seem to be going well until she accidentally challenges Mini's position as queen bee and when she doesn't conform to Mini's expectations, she's spat out. Franky then meets Matty who understands and empowers her giving her the strength to stand up to Mini. Grace admires Franky, and a new gang is formed with Alo, Rich and Grace. Franky has finally found friends, but in doing so has started a war with Mini.

just come too my attention wiki not the best source so take it as a pinch of salt until more info becomes available first confirmed episode is Franky though.

The Style:
In an effort to keep the “Skins brand” alive, they’ve copied the UK version’s credit sequence style (flashy images, colors, sexy bits), logo and ad-break bumpers. But the music’s new – it has lyrics alongside tinkly piano. As for the style of the show itself, you’ll be pleased to hear it’s just as gritty and youthful as the original, although there is a saddening lack of proper nudity and the swears are bleeped. The f**kers.

The Story:
Those of you that have seen the trailer will know that the plot of episode one is the same – a deliberate move on the part of creator Bryan Elsley to lay the foundations himself before introducing a host of new American writing talent later in the season. Everything you remember from ep one in the UK is there – squeezed balls, trampolines, a car in a lake – sometimes word-for-word or shot-for-shot. But stick with it, because episode five is more original. Written by new writer Mark Hammer, it sees the characters hit broadly similar plot points to the UK version but by taking a very different journey involving Stanley's dad's prized car, an army base and an amazingly annoying teacher, whose best line is: "Drugs? No thanks - I'm high on life."

Tony:
He’s still called Tony and he still is Tony: he's ridiculously charming, uses sex as a weapon and is as cocky as ever. But new star (and amateur boxer) James Newman is more rugged, macho and well, American. Think Nick Hoult’s Tony mixed with last season's Cook if you will. Although his duvet cover's not as good as UK Tony's.

Michelle: Tony still calls her Nips and she still hates it, but just like in the UK series, she can’t quit him. Although she retains her frisson with Stanley/Sid, the US version is more spunky and a better cat-fighter. Out of all of them, she’s the most similar.

Stanley: The loveable nerd becomes a lazy bum in the transition but he's still the hapless virgin who you root for. Less Ron Weasley and more Michael-Cera-as-Scott-Pilgrim in the looks department, he’s still at the command of Tony and desperately in love with Michelle.

Tea: Yikes! They made the gay dancer a lesbian cheerleader? This might be controversial as Maxxie was so well loved, but we reckon that feisty Tea should be given a chance. She’s strong and stands up to Tony, but their complicated relationship might just cause tension later on (now where have we seen that before….?)

Chris: Full disclosure: we can’t remember if we always loved the UK Chris as much as we do now we know he dies horribly, but we weren’t as enamoured with the Stateside version. Maybe it’s because he’s a bit rougher, more of a skinhead – but we think you’ll see a softer side come out. He’s still in love with his emotionally wonky teacher after all. (I totally disagree with this one, I think he embodies the character perfectly, and I'm sure we'll get to see that softer side in his ep + throughout the season.)

Cadie: From pale and wan Hannah Murray to wild and creepy Britne Oldford, Cadie is just as weird but in a very different way. She makes erotic sculptures – out of vegetables – and she loves knives. She’s still Tony’s choice to pop Stanley’s cherry and still ODs on a trampoline, but she replaces Cassie’s floatiness with a deadpan menace. Barring Maxxie's gender-swap, she's the most changed character.

The Rest: And fear not, fans of other characters – they’re all still there, we just didn’t get enough of a feel for them to judge. Jal becomes Daisy (and her clarinet becomes a trumpet); Anwar is now Abbud, and he still struggles to balance Islam with partying; and Effy is reincarnated as Eura, who looks a lot like Cassie, but remains as enigmatic and impassive as Kaya Scodelario’s version.

The Bottom Line: To be honest, if you’ve seen ep one of the UK Skins, you may be a little bored of the opener to the MTV series, but don’t give up too quickly, because from what we’ve seen, there’s lots of humour, emotion and conflict to come in the new episodes. And with Bryan Elsley’s plan to eventually make this a completely new version of Skins, coupled with a very promising new cast, we think this is one to watch.

A metalhead, a rugby captain and an Audrey Hepburn wannabe... it can only be the all-new cast of Skins

Every two years the cast of Skins changes to mark the students leaving sixth form.

And the new cast of the Channel 4 show has now been revealed, with a metalhead a rugby captain and an Audrey Hepburn wannabe in the mix.

The eight new characters have been unveiled ahead of the fifth series' premiere on 27th January, and pose wearing a selection of preppy clothes for the new issue of FHM magazine.

But Sebastian D Souza, who will play Matty, admits he was concerned about telling his parents he had won a part in the show because of the programme's raunchy nature.

He said: 'I only told my mum I'd been cast, so she didn't think I'd become a druggie in Bristol or something.

'Matty is ambiguous within the group, which is why he doesn't have a surname. He affects each of the characters without meaning to.'

Layla Lewis, who stars as Liv Malone, added: 'I'm from Bristol and for the first series the casting director came to my school, but I chickened out of the auditions.

'I'm pleased I eventually went for it. I based Liv on me at 16, because back then. I wanted to be cool, too.'

The eight starring roles are all very different, and the actors explained their characters' different characteristics.

Dakota Blue Richards, who plays Franky Fitzgerald, said: 'Franky starts as an outsider and has lots of conflicts with Mini.

'She's grown up in the care system and never had a family. She now lives with two adoptive gay dads. There's also a sex scene that hints as Frankie's dark past.'

Alex Arnold, who plays Rich Hardbeck, has the task of taking on the show's metalhead, explaining: 'Rich is - as his name describes - really middle class.

'He's tried to escape by wrapping himself in the lyrics of slayer. He's a metalhead, so I wear a long wig in the show.'

Jessica Sula, who stars as Grace Violet, is the show's resident female heartthrob, and said: 'Grace by name, grace by nature.

'She's really fun to play. Her character is inspired by iconic people, like Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly.'

Sean Teale, who plays Nick Levan, also described his character, explaining: 'Nick's the rugby captain. Mini is his girlfriend. On my first day I was stood in tight purple boxers getting puked on. And I smashed up houses on my last day.'

The fifth series also features a cameo appearance from a very famous model-turned-actress.

Freya Mavor, who plays Mini McGuinness, said: 'Mini is very determined and a bit of a b***h. Kelly Brook plays my fitness instructor. It makes sense, since she's so hot. It was funny working with her; the crew had their jaws by their knees.'
