What led me to buy them is they are advertised as battery free noise canceling hearing protection. Since we do quite a bit of shooting in severe weather, I thought these would be perfect. Nearly 2 years later I am still very excited to use the one I bought back then and it has required no maintenance so far. There has only been one instance when they weren't quite enough protection, but the conditions were as follows: covered, walled, multiple 50 BMGs going off and me on potato digger. Obviously being in a covered area and having a 50 BMG is probably too much for any hearing protection, but that was the only time they weren't enough, so unless you are EOD, these are more than adequate.

Anyways, Sensgard has recently posted a blog about their product and shooting and featured us in it. The blog can be found here. I highly recommend their hearing protection.

After we spoke with a few *nameless* legislators, we found out that Oregon's gun laws will pretty much be staying the same this year. The actions of the 2 rallies were actually quite significant to our representatives, when they realized the turn outs, especially on the 8th, which was a Friday!

Burdick is pulling some bills that she pushed earlier this year, mainly because of lack of support. That means that our representatives are representing us! There is a bill in direct retaliation to us now, though, namely trying to ban firearms from the Capitol building. OOPS! We'll see what happens there though.

You can read more about what happened in the public's eye here: http://www.oregonlive.com/mapes/index.ssf/2013/02/oregon_lawmakers_drop_attempt.html

Just remember that this is our victory, directly related to our actions, and the good judgement of our representatives.

The bill (whose full text can be found here: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c112:H.R.347:) prohibits people from entering "restricted" areas, disrupting the orderly functions of government, or even being near these areas!

Now, "orderly government" jokes aside, this is a clear violation of the 1st amendment which reads:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." The assembly of people whether or not it's in a "restricted area" or not is protected. Plus, what about journalist who have to report near such areas for a story? What if they get in the way of a grand tsar trying to access one of this buildings? Will they be whisked away by the mighty rule of our king?

Continuing, the first amendment gives us the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances. It is not clear of how this can be done, but letting the government tell us how it should be done is like a sheep listening to the slaughter house workers. We The People have the authority in this nation, and it is about high time to vote out anyone who supports such clear disregard for our rights.

Remember this November to send a message to capital hill about the abuse of We The People. Politicians will think twice about voting on a bill if it means they will be voted out of office.

Cracking into the UN Small Arms Trade Treaty

We have all heard the horror stories about the Arms Trade Treaty, but have you ever looked up the documents for yourself and read them? What if some people are blowing things out of proportion, or worse, not sounding the alarm on very important issues? Well, this report is going to help break down the language and have all the links to the UN's own page as reference. Here at SKS-14 Project, we believe in informing people, not fear mongering, blowing emotional input out of proportion, or burying information or mistakes. We work hard to bring 100% correct information, and I hope you can educate yourself on the issue of the Arms Trade Treaty and how it affects us all.

The first document that the UN post about small arms is called "Resolutions and Decisions" (1978) in the "Disarmament" section on the UN's page (found here: http://www.un.org/ga/search/view_doc.asp?symbol=A/S-10/4&referer=http://www.un.org/disarmament/ATT/documents/&Lang=E)) but it mainly speaks of nuclear disarmament.

Next comes the International Arms Transfer Treaty (1988). It once again only speaks to nuclear/radiological weapons and the storage thereof, but is still infringement of a nation's rights (or see 10th Amendment). The Page can be found here: http://www.un.org/ga/search/view_doc.asp?symbol=A/RES/43/75&Lang=E

The next 2 are the ones that start talking about regulation and restriction of our guns.

Section H of the: International Arms Transfers and Transparency in Armaments (UN Register) (http://www.un.org/ga/search/view_doc.asp?symbol=A/RES/46/36&Lang=E) speaks about small arms in particular, and uses catch phrases likes: drugs, terrorism, etc. as baits to lure fear out of people. It also tries to explain that trading your daddy's lever Winchester is going to destabilize a region once drug lords get their hands on it.

You'll also need to know that the Arms Trade Treaty is neither new nor never enacted. UNDC report A/51/42 (1996) (http://www.un.org/ga/search/view_doc.asp?symbol=A/51/42(Supp)&Lang=E), also titled "Guidelines for International Arms Transfers", reports that: "Limitations on arms transfers can be found in international treaties, binding decisions adopted by the Security Council under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations and the principles and purposes of the Charter."

The 2001 "UNITED NATIONS CONVENTION AGAINST TRANSNATIONAL ORGANIZED CRIME AND THE PROTOCOLS THERETO" (http://www.un.org/disarmament/convarms/ATTPrepCom/Background%20documents/Firearms%20Protocol%20-%20E.pdf) has a section called: "General Assembly resolution 55/255

of 31 May 2001" or," Protocol against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Their Parts and Components and Ammunition, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime." Here it actually states that: Reaffirming the inherent right to individual or collective self-defense recognized in Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, which implies that States also have the right to acquire arms with which to defend themselves, as well as the right of self-determination of all peoples, in particular peoples under colonial or other forms of alien domination or foreign occupation, and the importance of the effective realization of that right.* Which states in the plain that humans have the right to defend themselves with arms if needed.

However, it later reads: Article 6. Confiscation, seizure and disposal
1. Without prejudice to article 12 of the Convention, States Parties shall
adopt, to the greatest extent possible within their domestic legal systems, such
measures as may be necessary to enable confiscation of firearms, their parts and
components and ammunition that have been illicitly manufactured or trafficked.
2. States Parties shall adopt, within their domestic legal systems, such
measures as may be necessary to prevent illicitly manufactured and trafficked
firearms, parts and components and ammunition from falling into the hands of
unauthorized persons by seizing and destroying such firearms, their parts and
components and ammunition unless other disposal has been officially authorized, provided that the firearms have been marked and the methods of disposal of those firearms and ammunition have been recorded.

These treaties have been in place for years. That is no excuse to keep them because we can see the path that we are heading down. That one day, firearms may be declared a stumbling block to progress and therefore ceased under UN treaties.

It is the combination of all these treaties that people have come to the assumption that the UN is out to disarm all people. That through the technocratic elite, all people be barred from arms through treaties and laws that have no information or statistics to back them. But this comes to where we are today. Obviously, the anti-gun crowd have not changed their tactics of fear mongering and reporting false statistics, and sadly, some in power are willing to use these fraudulent figures to help the anti-gunners.

As you may have read in my other report (found here: http://sks-14.blogspot.com/2012/09/un-small-arms-treaty-passes-media-silent.html) The UN Small Arms Trade Treaty has passed the conference. But what is the UN Small Arms Trade Treaty? Well, according to http://www.un.org/News/Press/docs//2012/dc3389.doc.htm the UN Small Arms Trade Treaty was just a renewal of the 2001 treaty and a new revision to the 2006 discussion. This is all because Barrack Obama denounced the old USA conclusion from George Bush Jr. that reopened the debate because the UN claims that the US accounts for 40% of the Arms trade. (http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=abkyS4.975YM)

So will the UN Small Arms Trade Treaty lead to disarmament? No.
Will it make it easier for governments to disarm people? Yes.
Will it lead to an international registry? As of current, No.
Is an international registry possible? Yes. But hopefully we can gain more support in the UN than the anti-gunners do until that time.

In conclusion, the UN Small Arms Trade Treaty is a renewal of old treaties because treaties expire.
Certain clauses expire in 2018, so we need to work hard informing people about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, until that time. We can still win this, and I'd like to end with an old homage. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
MEDIA SILENT

On September 7th, 2012, the UN once again shows that it is against human rights and only seeks control over all nations. The treaty actually passed in the second meeting The proposed "goal" of the treaty is to eradicate "illicit small arms trades" around the world. Some nations have sovereignty issues over the treaty including the US, Israel, and Syria that have voiced their concerns over a nation's military and citizen arms being threatened.

The treaty will once again put restrictions on arms trades between countries, so if you were waiting for the M1 Carbines to get here from South Korea, you will be waiting even longer now. Parts of the Treaty are set to expire in 2018.
They range from preparedness to mundane items that are carried on a person. Some survivalist have taken EDC too the extreme and carry paracord or even a one day pack everywhere, however, the majority of people will not do this. Common EDC items are: a blade or multi-tool, a watch, flashlight, whistle, mobile communication devices, pen or pencil, first aid, keys, wallet, handgun, billfold, etc.

The importance of a common load out for EDC is that you will always have the bare essentials to get through your day, and from getting locked out of your house. Next, some EDC items will help protect you from danger or severe medical problems. You never know what you may be carrying that could save someone else, either.

Try setting up an EDC based on your needs, local laws, and convince. NEVER leave your house or car without all off these items, get in a habit of loading out. Security Forces members will have a pretty good idea of this concept, it's like visiting the armory before falling in.

Q1: Is this legal?
I will refer you to ORS 166.170 and ORS 166.173. We at SKS-14 will be carrying, but with our magazines out. Fully loaded, mind you, but to not give the police a shred of possibility to being illegal, we are taking this extra step. I highly recommend this step as well, but it is up to the individual. ALSO: I have emails from the Park Director approving of this event WHICH I WILL BRING WITH ME to the party.

Q2: Where can I park since I am from out of town?
Albany Oregon has a lot of parking available on the south bank of the Willamette. Much more parking than the park can hold in fact. So you may have to walk a little bit, but this is not a concern.

Q3: Who is speaking and when?
This is a newer question ever since TheHossUMSC made his video about the event. Out current answer is: "We will worry more about that when the time gets closer. Blake and I have a lot of planning to do besides the speakers, and since most of us are libertarians, we should be able to construct ourselves in an orderly way through volunteerism. Hoss is scheduled at 18:00 to speak, so don't miss that. I will also be reading some very unnerving documents that FEMA and the US Army Cadet School have made. I will pass these around afterwards so people can see for themselves.

Q4: How many people are going?
Good question! We don't know yet. My experience with RSVPs goes as follows: 30 say they are going and do not make it, 10 people say maybe, and 100 actually show up. We are going to plan the event like this:
Lunch rush (11:00-1300) will get the hotdogs and stuff as promised, get to shake hands with other 2A supporters. Then we will just hang out and tell stories. This will be a great time to rub shoulders and meet people.
Dinner time (17:00-19:00) will be more than likely the main rush of the event and we will have most resources dedicated to this time. Please come out and take advantage of this. IT'S FREE!

Q5: What do you hope to accomplish with this?
That's an easy question. We want to build a better support for firearms here in Oregon and the PACNW altogether. We believe that through demonstration of events and a reminder that firearms is why we are free to begin with will help mold people's minds back to the Spirit of 1776. So in a simple answer: We want a more friendly firearm culture.
California SB 249 is a crushing blow against lawful firearm owners and would ban "bullet button: firearms. Here at SKS-14 we don't know a whole lot about California's gun laws, we never plan on going there, but nevertheless, we need to stand united against all trials against our liberties. WE NEED TO SOUND THE ALARM ON THIS!.
Check out: http://stopsb249.org/ for more info.

SKS-14 supports the efforts of everyone who tries to stop this bill. We are issuing a challenge to recall Senator Yee out of office! The fact is that no gun grabber should ever be reelected. Let's start the fight against the gun grabbers and make it obvious that any gun bill that isn't 100% pure pro-gun is terms for getting voted against or recalled.
We recently shot a video about or earlier post (found here: http://sks-14.blogspot.com/2012/05/5.html) about 7.62x39 vs 5.56. The SKS and Mini-14 squared off against cinder blocks with surprising results!
The video (found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jC1o6kSSOSM) obviously shows the results, but there is some other things that happened that day.

We had a strange man claiming to be a vet show up to sight in his Walther P22. He kept messing up terminology and mixing up his story. The biggest thing is he said he wasn't pistol trained, then later said he was (asked about the M9) but muzzle swept us many times. He acted sporadic and changed his stance every time he went to fire. If we weren't burning bank statements and old PCS orders, we would have left. Instead, we kept our rifles close and ready, just in case he decided to get crazy on us.

Anyone else have any really bizarre stories about people in the woods?
If you do, comment or come down August 20th and tell us face to face.
If you aren't aware that we are having a patriot party potluck, then you need to be informed:
Ron Paul has introduced a bill that would restore our pure 2A rights to all American people.

It removes language from the ATF's arsenal such as: sporting purpose and assault weapon to use as scare tactics against the American people.
This will be an important bill to follow so here is the link: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/112/hr2615
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d112:hr2615:

The bill is not likely seen to pass, but there is always a chance because congressmen like their jobs and most firearm owners (at least that I know) are voters. This will be an interesting bill to follow and a landmark for the people if passed. It is a very simple bill and I can only imagine that gun grabbers would vote against this.

No matter what your opinion is of Dr. Paul, he is here to protect our lawful use of firearms so here at SKS-14 he is thanked. Remember to call YOUR senator and remind them to vote YES on HR 2615 if they like their job.

The text of the bill reads as follows:

However, it is ultimately a person's right to shop where they please. The United States traitor known as: Senator Frank Launtenberg (D-NJ) has introduced a bill that will require four things that Launtenberg says are the: "Four pillars of this bill."

The four inhuman pillars are:

It requires anyone selling ammunition to be a licensed dealer.

It requires ammunition buyers who are not licensed dealers to present photo identification at the time of purchase, effectively banning the online or mail order purchase of ammo by regular civilians.

It requires licensed ammunition dealers to maintain records of the sale of ammunition.

It requires licensed ammunition dealers to report the sale of more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition to an unlicensed person within any five consecutive business days.

I don't need to point out the complete nanny state tyranny in those four "pillars," but it is obvious that they are coming out of the wood work for our guns. There are at least 2 bill on capital hill right now dealing with firearms, and plenty of rhetoric about banning all semi-autos. Let's get something straight "senators," you got lucky in Katrina, people really didn't believe that an order would come down to disarm honest people. We are wiser and angrier now, and still have the spirit of 1776. Back then, when guns were confiscated, it triggered a revolution, and the same stands today.
Well, bad news patriots: they have added a "rider" onto a Cyber Security Bill that will ban magazines over 10 for anything over a 22 rimfire.

Don't believe me?
Here is the google search:
https://www.google.com/#q=magazine+ban+cybersecurity&hl=en&prmd=imvnsu&source=univ&tbm=nws&tbo=u&sa=X&ei=Dx4TUKnDOofTqgHCpoHYAg&ved=0CA0QqAI&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=34f8bc1a54f66b4f&biw=1360&bih=667

You guessed it too, they are trying to use the fear people have over the shooting in Colorado to further push for the disarming of the American People. Luckily enough, this is already an unpopular bill that had little chance of passing and most Representatives and Governors will run in fear over the new addendum. Gun control has grown fiercely unpopular here in the USA, and we plan on keeping it that way. So not only should this bill fail, it should also make a mockery of those who proposed it. Vote these traitors out of office for Heaven's sake.

The bill known as S.A. 2575 reads as follows:

PROHIBITION ON TRANSFER OR POSSESSION OF LARGE CAPACITY AMMUNITION FEEDING DEVICES.
(a) Definition.–Section 921(a) of title 18, United States Code, is amended by inserting after paragraph (29) the following:
“(30) The term `large capacity ammunition feeding device’–
“(A) means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition; but
“(B) does not include an attached tubular device designed to accept, and capable of operating only with, .22 caliber rimfire ammunition.”.
(b) Prohibitions.–Section 922 of such title is amended by inserting after subsection (u) the following:
“(v)(1)(A)(i) Except as provided in clause (ii), it shall be unlawful for a person to transfer or possess a large capacity ammunition feeding device.
[Page: S5403] GPO’s PDF
“(ii) Clause (i) shall not apply to the possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device otherwise lawfully possessed within the United States on or before the date of the enactment of this subsection.
“(B) It shall be unlawful for any person to import or bring into the United States a large capacity ammunition feeding device.
“(2) Paragraph (1) shall not apply to–
“(A) a manufacture for, transfer to, or possession by the United States or a department or agency of the United States or a State or a department, agency, or political subdivision of a State, or a transfer to or possession by a law enforcement officer employed by such an entity for purposes of law enforcement (whether on or off duty);
“(B) a transfer to a licensee under title I of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954 for purposes of establishing and maintaining an on-site physical protection system and security organization required by Federal law, or possession by an employee or contractor of such a licensee on-site for such purposes or off-site for purposes of licensee-authorized training or transportation of nuclear materials;
“(C) the possession, by an individual who is retired from service with a law enforcement agency and is not otherwise prohibited from receiving ammunition, of a large capacity ammunition feeding device transferred to the individual by the agency upon that retirement; or
“(D) a manufacture, transfer, or possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device by a licensed manufacturer or licensed importer for the purposes of testing or experimentation authorized by the Attorney General.”.

(c) Penalties.–Section 924(a) of such title is amended by adding at the end the following:
“(8) Whoever knowingly violates section 922(v) shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 10 years, or both.”.
(d) Identification Markings.–Section 923(i) of such title is amended by adding at the end the following: “A large capacity ammunition feeding device manufactured after the date of the enactment of this sentence shall be identified by a serial number that clearly shows that the device was manufactured after such date of enactment, and such other identification as the Attorney General may by regulation prescribe.”.

1. A semi automatic firearm that has it's bolt enclosed inside the frame of the rifle. It is also, at least, covered by the frame of the rifle over 50% of it's operation.

OR

2. A semi automatic firearm that, when the bolt is locked back, still does not have a clear, unobstructed path to the chamber and magazine well.

Examples would be: AR-15, SCAR, ACR, AK47, 74, AKM, FN FAL, G3, Steyr AUG

What we mean when we say unenclosed bolt:

1. A semi automatic firearm that, when the bolt is locked back, has a clear unobstructed path from the top view of the rifle down to the chamber and magazine well.

Examples would be: M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, M14, Mini-14, SKS, SVT-40

So Which is better? An enclosed or unenclosed bolt system?
Quick research would suggest that the enclosed system is superior in most ways except that it cost more and has a quicker cook off. So is that it then? Well, anyone who has carried an M16A2 or M4 would say that the biggest pain in the ass about the system is the maintenance and reliabilty. They get dirty and suffer problems, and they can get really dirty, really fast. The M16A2 is a really easy to disassemble rifle with very few hiccups when you tear it down. But what happens if it jams or double feeds? Do you really expect
both rounds to fall out of the little slot in the side of the rifle? Clearly, you need to drop the mag to clear these problems, but how easy is it to get your fingers in there to clear an issue? This is where the garand style bolts, and other form of unenclosed bolt really shine.

More important than the solider having a rifle, he needs to know how to use it. It needs to be easy to use and easy to clean. It also needs to be cheap to mass produce. The unenclosed system allows even a high school drop out conscript to become a master with its use. The fact that the M14 and SKS are still being issued 60 years after their initial issue date speaks volumes about the platforms. They are easy to clean, easy to use, and even easy to produce, and incredibly reliable. They are the perfect formula for any standing army.

I know what you're asking: "So let's see some stats for comparison."

Unfortunately, it is difficult to compare rifles like this because some rifles can be overpriced or made of cheap materials, some models can have shorter barrels or the difference in cast vs. forge is an issue. It is also unfair to compare a M14 to an AR-15 because they fire very different rounds in very different ways. There are even different models of AR-15s that clear up previous AR-15 problems, like long or short stroke pistons or hydraulic buffers. And, will anyone really like it if I rag on the M16A2, anymore? The fact is that of the "top ten military combat rifles" by the Military Channel, the AR-15 was the only model that had such bad problems that it got it's users killed. It is also a enclosed bolt system, probably the most famous, at that. I don't want to just keep nagging about it, but think about it: your rifle will fail to operate at some time; it is a machine, and machines fail there is nothing you can do about it. You want you rifle back in operation as soon as possible if it fails and your life is on the line. Do you want a weapon that has nothing but small parts that are hard to get tools into, or a weapon that has big clunky parts that are easy to work with?

This is a debate that will not be over anytime soon, but Blake and I use unenclosed bolts for the reasons that are listed. In the northwest it rains for weeks on end, there is mud and tree parts everywhere that we get in our weapons a lot. We want something that will work, and work well at all times, and for us the Mini-14 (or garand style bolt) and the SKS is pretty much as good as it gets.

Something great that happened June 6th

Blake and I were just driving around after a really long hike in the woods when we came upon a man with a radio holding his hand out at us. We both get a sinking gut feeling as we pull up to him. I start with: "You need something?"

"I'm just looking for directions". The man replies with a sharp Irish accent.

After some time we establish that he paraglided into a landing spot and was receiving location and directions from VHF radio from another paraglider who was his eye in the sky. He was told to keep going left down this road to get back to his truck and we kept insisting that there is no way those directions correct because we just came down the other road and saw his truck. We tell him that we can give him a ride because the sun was going down and the rain was setting in. So about 15 minutes later he finally adds: "Well, normally I wouldn't just trust people I just met in the woods, but I have a good feeling about you guys." We had finally convinced him that it was no 20 minute hike out, it was a 20 minute drive.

Little did he know, however, this was just our chance. We tie him up and beat with bats for about... Oh wait...
Never mind that was some other time. We shift some gear around and he hops in. We pass 2 forks in the road which he did not recognize and said he would have choose the wrong direction each time, and about 20 minutes later at 30 mph, we finally arrive.

I gained 20 bucks from his thanks, missed a great filming opportunity, and learned something really important: it is never a good idea to be in the woods and be unprepared. You see, this late 40s to early 50s Irish man only had his paragliding gear and a little bit of provisions. He revealed to us that if we didn't come along, he would have gone left on the first road and ended up miles away from his target in the 40 degree rain and wind with nothing more than a light shirt and a parachute for the night.

We probably saved that guy's life, but we know for a fact that he got off really easy.
The downfalls are not having nearby repeaters or that nearby obstructs greatly reduce range, and licensing fees.
I have been on plenty of survivalist forums and the common channel I see people are recommending for innawoods/general use is the "675" or channel 20. However this is the channel generally used for road comm or emergencies. So I personally don't recommend this for general use as you may block comm for someone who needs help.

If you are ever in the woods around us we will probably get your transmission. We constantly scan and have heard some unusual things. Our primary channel will be the "7125" or FRS 14.We choose FRS because it does not require a license to use.
http://www.fcc.gov/encyclopedia/family-radio-service-frs

Also, FRS around us is always clear. Bubble-pack pirates, we have noticed, like to stay on GMRS/FRS channels 1-7. Which require a license to use. Channel 1-3 are the ones we get activity on, but I could also assume that a person in need of help who, without proper knowledge/licenses of radios, could be using these channels as well. Recently, a pair of elk poachers were arrested in the area and we are pretty sure we have had close encounters with these people based on radio transmissions we have stumbled upon.

What channels are you on?
And where do you go up in the woods at?

5.56 or 7.62x39?

5.56x45 or 7.62x39?

Since we use these calibers, (even though I cycle probably 95% .223 through the mini) we need to discuss this. This is a long debate that has raged on for years and probably won’t be going away any time soon. Both of us have cycled hundreds of rounds through our own and each other’s rifles, so even after all of that, the conclusion is not as simple as it seems.
The 5.56 first went into service around 1963 and was made for the M16 rifle. This round was designed to yaw (or rotate) and fragment once it struck a target, which creates a decent amount of tissue damage for such a little bullet. Intermediate cartridges were being demanded by Generals across most NATO nations, and for good reason. Battle rifles were heavy to carry all day long, and the old cartridges of 30-06 and 7.62x51 were cumbersome themselves in quantity, not to mention that most battles in the previous wars were taking place <500 yards. A 30 magazine of 5.56 weights much less than a 20 round magazine of 7.62x51, therefore, a solider carry much more ammo into battle. These characteristics of the round made NATO fancy the 5.56 even despite some said complaints, some of which are: poor first hit-kill ratio, the M855 (standard military 5.56) does not fragment reliably, and the biggest problem: yawing not occurring until very deep penetration, meaning that all the damage it could have done, was not present.
Despite all these flaws, the 5.56 caliber remains popular across the world and is a favorite among some shooters. Something too remember is that 5.56 is not the same as .223. Yes they both feed in the same weapon platforms, but 5.56 has higher chamber pressure than .223 and some .223 rifles warn not to use 5.56 ammo in them.

7.62x39 went into service with it’s respected rifle in 1944. The AK47 and SKS are considered to both be this round’s respected rifle, but in fact the SKS was in service before the AK47. 7.62x39 has very similar ballistics to 30-30. This round does not yaw or fragment in soft tissue, meaning that it only tumbles to get maximum damage. Because of that, the Chinese looked to add a steel core to better utilize it’s already close-to armor piercing capabilites. Even though this round does not do the damage to flesh targets it hits with around 400 ft-lbs more than the 5.56. I won’t get into “stopping power” but you can see any video on youtube about a guy shooting cinder blocks with an AR15 platform and an AK47 and see the difference. (That sounds like a great video idea.)
The 7.62x39 is still used by some countries, but the former WARSAW pact countries have started to abandon it for the 5.45x39. AND THIS IS WHERE THE REAL DEBATE BEGINS. You see, 7.62x39 was a great round, but was looking to get replaced for sometime. During Vietnam, the Soviets took note of the 5.56‘s ballistics and designed the 5.45 to mimic it or even try to out perform it. The 5.45 tumbles a lot in soft targets, and produces devastating effects from it. However, the 5.45 does not fragment and along flexible organs doesn’t do a lot of damage. 5.45 even weights less than 5.56 so you can carry more of it. It also doesn’t have as sharp of a report as the 7.62x39 so it is many times more accurate in sustained automatic fire.

Pros/Cons
5.56/.223:
Pro: Cheap, Accurate, Easy to find, Many different loads.
Con: Dries up around elections, Price fluctuates often.

7.62x39
Pro: Heavy round, Moderate speed, Common round.
Con: Not very good ballistics, Dries up around elections, Prices fluctuates the most.
5.45x39
Pro: Cheapest round listed on debate. Bulk, Decent ballistics, Might have a future as a leading round.
Cons: Hard to find, Surplus will dry up one day.

My personal recommended round?
.223 of course. It may not be the best round ever, but you can walk into a lot of stores and find it. Hell, I find good (not ran over) .223 innawoods sometimes. It is really cheap, and has a solid life ahead of it because of all the 5.56/.223 rifles that Americans like.

Remember that choosing a rifle and round is all personal preference, and should be based on what you like, not what you are told to get. I hope this gave some insight into these 3 great rounds.

1. Post relevant content
2. Do not post porn.
3. Don't post hate, (unless it's a joke and it can be defended as a joke easily) but please clarify your positions.
4. Keep politics to a minimum. Hard to do around guns, but seriously, no one has fun around politics.
5. Do not troll like an idiot. Everyone appreciates a successful troll, but being dumb isn't being cleaver (obviously). Bad trolls will be deleted, no questions.
What you can do:
