eBay has done it again.

Yesterday they announced a massive change to digital download listings that will completely overhaul the way those of us selling eBooks do business.

From March 31, eBooks and other digital download products can no longer be listed in auction format. Instead, they must be listed as a Classified ad.

Okay, fine, you might say. Except for when we tell you that selling via Classified ads means no feedback.

Because Classified transactions take place outside of eBay, the feedback option is nullified. And this is one big ‘uh-oh’ for any seller trying to build a good reputation or achieve powerseller status. 

For many of you, this announcement is going to come as a nasty shock.

But before you let the doom and gloom sink in, remember that survival in business means adaptation. Also from what I’ve seen over the years, every so called ‘shock’ in eBay, Google or any other online income source usually helps some people while hurting others.

You can use this situation to your advantage as many eBay sellers will not know what to do and will give up following this latest announcement.

Luckily for you, as a member of Sky High Auctions you’re up to date on what to do.

My first suggestion is that you list your eBooks as classified ads. You won’t be able to earn feedback points, but you’ll still get the most important thing from your eBook sales… qualified leads!

Now as far as feedback is concerned, you can still sell your eBooks (or other digital items) on CD or DVD, if you list them on eBay as a physical product.

While this does mean that you can’t automate this part of your business entirely, the upsides more than make up for it.

For starters, up-sell opportunities are now going to be tripled. Yes, tripled. Physical items are taken way more seriously by customers, so there’s going to be more chance of your other offers being viewed and actioned. And don’t let’s forget that this is actually the most important part of selling digital items anyway!

I suggest that you sell your physical product cd’s for $7 + shipping and handling (which should be pretty cheap). That equate to a similar profit after costs are taken into account, as to selling ebooks. And you should get quite a few leads out of this.

You can still sell some of your physical products at higher prices (e.g. a 5 cd pack on self hypnosis for $30+ etc), but in general, as taught in the Sky High Auctions lessons, you’ll want to sell this kind of package on the backend, after selling someone a lower priced product. These leads are invaluable.

There’s no doubt about it: this is a pretty big shake up for all of us digital product sellers. But we’re very excited about the solutions we’ve put in place and can only wait with baited breath to see how the results pan out in our bottom line over the coming weeks.

You probably have some questions about Sky High Auctions and I’d like to take this time to clear the air for you. I’ve poured through the email from this week and found the most commonly asked questions.

Here they are with my answers:

1. How can I get a copy of Sky High Auctions and what is the price?

Sky High Auctions will be released on Thursday March 6th at 11am EST. If you are subscribed to the Sky High Auctions pre-launch list, you’ll receive access one hour before anyone else (ie 10am EST). Click here to find out the exact time in your area .

2. What is Sky High Auctions?

To explain what Sky High Auctions is, what we’ve done is assembled the best of our eBay Powerseller contacts and online auction gurus and put together what we believe to be the best and most comprehensive course available that teaches you how to make a full time living from online auction sites, such as eBay.  

You’ll learn everything including

3. How did you get to know the other powersellers who created Sky High Auctions?

We meet powersellers through introductions through other powersellers, and through the forums and through others contacting me via SaleHoo itself. Mark Ling, co-owner of Sky High Auctions, was travelling around the world last year and met up with several of these powersellers in person (UK and USA). He also attended eBay university and made lots of contacts there. We’ve formed many of these relationships over the last 5 years.

4. Why is the $167 price only for the first 500 members?

We are selling Sky High Auctions at $267, but we thought it might create some buzz if we offered it for $167 to the first 500 customers. We’re rewarding the early movers, however $267 in of itself is a low price when you consider the value in Sky High Auctions. I’ve seen a lot of worse courses sell for $5000 and more.

5. Do you teach how to source products and how to scale your business?

Yes and yes. We teach all the product sourcing secrets that I and my powerseller friends use to source products at low prices. We also teach you step-by-step how to use the various software tools that we use to automate a lot of our business, which frees up a lot of our time.
 
6. Will creating and selling ebooks be part of the course?

Yes, 2 of the powersellers who contributed to creating Sky High Auctions earn their millions through selling ebook on eBay and teach how they do it in the Sky High Auctions members area.
 
7. Why is the price $267? ($167 for first 500 customers)

Working with the 15 powersellers and compiling this course actually took a LOT of time and money. We’ve been working on it for close to 2 years now and other aspects such as video editing (there are over 30 hours of videos in the members area), proofing, graphic design, writing (there are written versions of each lesson) and so forth caused this project to be very expensive.

We wanted to price it at an affordable price for most people, yet we also want to be rewarded for the incredible value that we are offering. If you compare this business opportunity to buying a business franchise, $267 is a drop in the bucket compared to paying $200,000 to buy a business franchise. Yet there is every chance that you’ll earn more from this business than if you were to buy a franchise in a brick and mortar business.

The other consideration on our part is that there will be a lot of bandwidth taken up by these videos (we’ve compressed them so they will load fast, but there is over 30 hours of them in the members area).

At the end of the day, we feel that $267 is an incredible price for the value on offer.
